I came here to get breakfast on my way to go hiking, and was very impressed. Don't let the paper plates deceive you, the food is very good. The portions were massive, the prices extremely reasonable, the service very friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming as well. The one complaint I have is that they don't make homemade hash. It is a laidback restaurant that resembles a small old barn house. My partner and I came here on a lazy Sunday with our sweats. It was our first time in Benton's Sugar shack. A neighbor recommended it. We got to Benton's around 10 AM, there was parking available when we got there, and when we stepped in, we were greeted and were kindly asked to put our name and number on the waitlist. We waited about 10 min until we were seated outside. The outdoor area is pleasant. There are about three to four Picnic wooden tables with a nice view of the lake and new Hampshire's beautiful greenery. Our waitress was Sara, and she was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake with Maple Kielbasa for an extra 99 cents. I have to say the pancakes were good, but the best part of my meal was the Maple Kielbasa (so yummy!). Although everything was good, it was too big to eat in one sitting and was provided a to-go container. I was happy to see the container were made out of plants (yay, for eco-friendly). My partner had the Sugar Maker, which I can tell was delicious because he ate his meal all in one sitting. The portions here are significant, and the prices are reasonable. So glad we decided to take the detour, because this place was AH-MMM-MAZING! Huge portions and everything tasted like it was made to order. Ate here today for the first time. I want to give it 5 stars but I can't. I agree with a previous review that the kitchen and waitstaff aren't in sync with each other. Our waitresses name was yelled numerous times by the kitchen when her orders were up. We watched other waitresses deliver her orders for her. There aren't enough good things to say about this place. Up in the white mountains for Labor Day weekend, we came across this Gem on google. We woke up Sunday and made the short 13 minute trip to Benton's and unfortunately they were out of home fries and biscuits. I love home fries so immediately I was disappointed, but in comes The waiter Joe serving coffee and jokes for days to save the day. Joe was amazing with his service, kept the fresh coffee coming, and was super friendly and full of jokes with our large party of about 15 people. Then comes the food, and let me tell you, WOW! Not only are the plates hardy (large portions) but the taste is amazing. I had the regular pancakes with a side of bacon and sausage and it was AMAZING. The maple syrup, which they themselves make right on site, was so good I had to buy some to bring home. We immediately knew we'd have to come back the next day for one last breakfast before hitting the road. Our waitress was very nice enough to comp us out sides, and we were seriously in shock at how amazing everything was. I'm from New York City, and I can easily say that was the best attention, service, and breakfast food I've ever had. We came back the next day, and to no ones surprise, there was Joe. Big smile, remembered us, was happy to see us again, and even sat at our table for a little bit to talk with us about the small town. I was seriously in love with this place and if I ever find myself up in those parts of NH, i without a doubt will be having breakfast from Benton's Sugar Shack every single day. I am partial to the Egg and Pan platter with homemade French Toast (nice thick cuts of in-house bread). All served on paper plates with plastic utensils, because they DON'T do dishes, baby. More like an adventure than a simple morning dining experience. On weekends, go early to avoid a line. In the boonies, but worth the hike. Staff was very friendly. It is a cool NH working sugar shack. Food was so so. Got the very berry pancakes that were raw around the fruit. My wife's eggs were not cooked enough. Bacon was good and so were homefries. Paper plates and plastic utensils cheapen the place. Coffee served in paper cups. But as another review said the food was so so. My veggie omelet was over cooked and couldn't taste much of the veggies and the plain pancakes were just ok. The portions are indeed large but other than the idea and the atmosphere there is nothing special about it. I also purchased two jars of jam and a medium maple syrup bottle but there were no bags to carry them in. So they ended up wrapping them in some random plastic. My kind of place, using paper products and selling homemade foods in the front! Great breakfast selection including corned beef hash, yes please! Ordered the Sugar Stack to get a lil taste of everything: one piece of french toast, one pancake, hash and 2 eggs. I added the Very Berry (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries) to my pancake and with their very own maple syrup it was a delicious breakfast for $8! Sue our server was awesome and Mr. Benton gave us a great history on his family and the syrup makin' process. Behind the restaurant you can see the equipment and I am sure in season (6 weeks in the Spring) you can see them making the syrup. Such a great little find in the middle of nowhere! We only live two hours away and stay up North many times a year and frequent the area. They rushed us to order and one person in our party needed a few more minutes so the waitress put all other orders in and and our other persons food came out 10 minutes after ours. Hime fries mixed with broccoli, pepper, onion, chunks of bacon, smothered in jack cheese. Comes with two home made biscuits, grilled face down with butter. Add the raspberry preserve thats on the table delicious. Pancakes served with authentic sugar shack syrup.
