Gave this place a shot and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food . They have specials but they seem to be all about alcoholic drinks and not food , except Taco Tuesday where you get two tacos of your choice and a margarita for 15$. When the tacos came out they were huge on a flour shell . Unfortunately, it was mostly salad /avocado on top of a very small amount of tasty steak . But my biggest disappointment was when I asked our college waiter / host if we could sit outside in the event a table opened up . He said oh sorry my manager has strict rules that when you take a table in the restaurant you can't go outside. Really ?? Keep in mind , inside the restaurant plenty of open tables .Well when a table opened up my wife asked our waiter if we could go outside . The young man said I'll ask my manager. He reluctantly came back and said he's in a bad mood, and I'm sorry . The managers name is Mr A . Gee I wonder how he got that name . I think they forgot hole . Your food was pretty good Mac n cheese 9$ , good burgers , steak on a flat bread - delicious. But don't you want to treat your customers well and make them happy . So they come back ?restaurant 101 . Went to Berger Bros. last night for Ladies Night. $6 martinis were wonderful,BUT the Black Truffle Burrata was to die for. This is served so beautifully,in separate little glass containers, cheese,macadamia nut sage pesto, and Peppadew and balsamic relish all made in house. My wife and I stopped in here for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. My wife had the Halibut Special. I was a little surprised at the price so I asked the waitress to repeat. I then figured for that price 36.00 it will be good. My wife said it was one of the best if not the best pieces of fish she has ever had. I'm glad I took the chance because as you know happy wife is good! I had a ribeye sandwich that also was very good. To top it off we had a very pleasant waitress named Melissa. On the way out we spoke with one of the owners Judy. Gave us a little of the history of how this restaurant came to be. Also a very pleasant gal to talk to. All in all a very enjoyable evening. Definitely will be going back and hope arenext experience will be as enjoyable as the first. My husband and I rode our bikes to Berger Bros Pub, sat on the patio and enjoyed the most delicious pot roast sandwich and fries. It was sooo good! Really enjoyed our visit on the hubby's birthday. We left and were riding our bikes home on the bike path and suddenly someone pulled up on the side of the road, jumped out of his car and said I'm glad I caught you! We were unsure who this person was. Turned out, it was an employee of Berger Bros with my husband's phone, which he had left on the table. To track us down on the bike path was over and above! Another great dinner! Tried the prime rib sandwich. Fantastic. Juicy but not soggy. Our son had the Mac and cheese. The portion was big enough to share. Macaroni was cooked perfect and there was plenty of cheese sauce. The best part of the whole meal was the service. As always, perfect service. Went to Berger Bros Pub for the first time tonight. There was a short wait for a table, so we grabbed a drink at the bar. Very good beer selection and good service. My wife, daughter and I went out on Thursday for a casual dinner at this neighborhood spot. All three of us ordered the fish tacos. I devoured mine. When I noticed that both my wife and daughter had stopped eating, I asked if something was wrong. Unfortunately, both had noticed that there bugs climbing around in their lettuce. Very disturbing. Mixed review. Service was terrible. Went on a Saturday evening at 5:30, it was busy and our waitress was running. With that said, it was our first time there and we were curious about the holy grail of cheese, our waitress didn't explain the dish and we (4 of us) ordered it as an appetizer, well it was a grilled cheese sandwich with a tomato sauce dip. If this was explained, we would not have ordered. The burgers were great, the beer list extensive. Avoid the fish tacos as they were topped with a thousand island dressing. Basically, good burgers, good beers. Possibly bad timing, maybe they were short staffed but REALLY poor service. read more

Great little neighborhood gem in downtown Winfield. We've been to Berger Bros a few times & the food is excellent! You can tell the Chef is passionate about food. I give this a one star for the simple reason that only the chips and salsa were great. First for how much food costs they should put chips and salsa on the table. I ordered a turkey club with fries. My club came as a wrap, NO BREAD! Every one of my fries were soggy. They actually flopped over. My husband had fish tacos. He picked one up and it all fell on the plate. We went here to celebrate a birthday after work (on a Wednesday). The good: Their food is really good! I also liked that I could get a lettuce-wrapped burger instead of with a bun. The not-so-good: We showed up at 5:30 pm when it was supposedly Happy Hour, but their happy hour specials are very lame - maybe $5 for a craft beer but no appetizer specials. There is no Happy Hour menu. A regular glass of Sangria was $10 and the price didn't drop to $7 until Trivia started at 7 pm. I can get a whole pitcher of Sangria else where for $20 so $10 for one glass of Sangria during Happy Hour seems expensive. The four of us stayed for Trivia but we were no match for the table of 12 who also played as one team. I would go back more often if they had decent happy hour specials, but there are other places in the area that offer better happy hour specials. read more

Loved this place! Quite an unexpected surprise. We had been to this location under a previous owner, and did not care for it. We decided to try it since it was recommended as a place for good food and outside dining. Our waitress, Melissa, was a delight and made our entire evening enjoyable. Great service, good sense of humor, and very accommodating to our extra requests. It was Taco Tuesday, so I ordered the Chicken tacos. I was served 2 huge chicken tacos along with warm homemade tortilla chips and a delicious salsa. My husband ordered the Buffalo burger and the presentation was amazing, especially when you're expecting just a traditional hamburger with a few things added. He said it was absolutely delicious! Chef Greg has done a masterful job of taking ordinary dishes and creating something new and exciting. We were with another couple, and they too raved about their food and Melissa. Cannot say enough about this place. Berger Brothers is a wonderful addition to Winfield and the Chicagoland area. I consider myself a foodie and I usually am pretty tough on a restaurants food, atmosphere, and service. I have to say that Berger Brothers knocks it out of the park with everything that they do. The food is outstanding and the daily specials (dreams that Chef Greg puts onto a plate) are unreal, clever, sophisticated and addicting. You can tell that he is a classically trained chef serving nothing but the best to his patrons... This is Chicago and NYC quality in the suburbs (FINALLY). I cannot stop at the food though. The staff at Berger Brothers really care about you and want your experience to be 2nd to none. The place is small, sometimes hard to get in, but it so worth the wait. The staff makes you feel welcome which makes me want to come back and relive the great experience from the last time I was in. Because the food is prepared to order, relax and enjoy high end drinks that are specially crafted by the bartender. Like I said, relax and enjoy because the food is worth the wait. They also do private parties. I recently hosted a private party with 55 guests. Chef Greg and the magician that goes by the name Joe, prepared "Smoked" beef tenderloin, Chicken Marsala, handed passed munchies, and sides that will knock your socks off. EVERY guest raved about the food and the staff and some are already planning on returning for regular service. We had Melissa, Autumn, and Troy work our party.
