Really appreciated the customer service at Berkeley Glass. Had gone to Home Depot and tried to order a window through them. Their computer system was down and the person trying to help me was not willing to call the company. When I went to Berkeley Glass I explained I had a time crunch and my window was delivered within the timeframe provided. I was very impressed with Tom when I first met him. He seemed like a nice and honest person. I first encountered him when I took a a piece of mirror to be cut, and he convinced me that it was not worth the while given the scratches on the mirror. I ended up buying a new mirror glass from him at a reasonable price. At this time I told him about an experience I had with another glass company, which charged me over $100 for a piece of 14" by 37" regular 1/4" glass for a coffee table top. (The frame was slightly bowed in the middle so I requested that it be cut to fit the shape). He pointed out that this was way to high and that the cost to me should have been around $40. After returning to the other glass company and challenging their exorbitant price they decided to take back the piece of glass and refund my money. I then took the table top frame to Berkeley Glass. I requested 1/4" tempered glass that would fit loosely in the tabletop frame. We talked about cutting the glass to take on the shape of the slightly bowed table top, but he said that the bow was so slight that it would not be noticed when the glass was in the frame. I went along with his judgment. He then asked how was I going to secure the glass to the table top. I told him that this was not my intention since all the coffee tables, with glass, that I had seen did not have the glass permanently affixed. He suggested that he could secure the glass with glue. I pointed out that this may be difficult because the frame was warped. He said that this could be taken care of by using shims. I gave the go ahead since he appeared to know what he was talking about. When I got home I called the shop to speak to him, because I was concerned about the glue showing through the glass of the table top. He was not there so I spoke to his secretary explaining to her that I was concerned about the glue showing through the glass, and if this would be the result, I would prefer that the glass sit freely in the frame. She explained that there was no need to worry, since silicon would be used and that it dries clear like glass. After returning from a two week vacation there was a message from the Secretary asking if I had clips and screws for the frame. When I returned her call to find out what she was talking about she told me that it was finished and ready to be picked up. I did not pursue the conversation anymore on the phone, and went immediately to pick up the tabletop. I was in for a complete shock. The glass was not secured to the tabletop by glue, but rather by a set of six crudely applied silver clips, that were screwed into the exposed side of my mahogany finished teak frame. I refused to take the table top home and about one week later received a phone call from Tom wherein he took absolutely not responsibility for the horrible job done. In our conversation I was trying to suggest to him that maybe there was some miscommunication, between us, about what should be done to the table top. He however insisted on laying all the blame on me, by totally misrepresenting and distorting our conversation about what I wanted done to the tabletop. He insisted in a shouting and angry voice that I told him to use screws and clips. Another untruth was that we took the table top to the back of his office where he demonstrated to me how the clips and screw would fit. This is a total lie, because he took the frame from me and filled out the receipt in the front part of his shop. We never went into the back of the shop to do anything. After doing nothing, but denying that he had screwed up, he reluctantly offered to remove the clips and screws and give me the glass. He however, allowed me to know that I was getting away with getting a piece of glass for free. This is after he ruin my table top. I now must try to plug six screw holes in my table top and probably have to re-sand the whole thing in order for it to look half way decent. Additionally the glass that he turned over to me is not quarter inch as I wanted, it is badly cut and the edges are not finished as he had agreed to do. What initially was a good reception turned out to be a very bad one in the end. After this experience I certainly will not be recommending anyone to Berkeley Glass. I felt very mistreated. Small claims court was an option, but I do not have the time. read more

Timely, efficient and not overly expensive job done on some of our windows that had condensation. Steve (I hope I'm right about his name) returned my call one day later, came out very soon thereafter and gave me an estimate. The glass took a few days to arrive and two men installed it today in 1 1/2 hours. I was expecting the cost to be much more than it was. They did a great job with shower doors in a sloping house.

Thank you Berkeley Glass. It was time to do some updating to our bathrooms. The job entailed removing and replacing a shower door in one room, and in the 2nd room, removing an old door and replacing it with a shiny new rod. They came out to measure, it took no more than 15 minutes and we scheduled the job for early January. The installer was efficient, pleasant and left our house in great shape. Throughout the process, he consulted with me to advise what he was planing to do. I'm taking off 1 star because getting a hold of them at the start was challenging, but it all worked out great. First experience with them was in 2007 and it was fine which is why I went back to them recently. Customer service second time around was very sloppy. I broke the glass on a small 5 x 7 frame I like. Aaron brothers only had a piece of $20, UV protected glass or the advice to buy a cheap frame, take the glass and toss the frame. None of that worked for me. Berkeley Glass quickly cut me a perfect piece for $3- thanks so much! I hope someday I get to give you more business. read more

I like to support local business, but the people working at this place (Berkeley) make it impossible to do so. I tried to phone through an order in advance but was told that I should come in - as cutting the piece that I wanted would only take a couple of minutes on-the-spot. When I did go there later, I was told that they couldn't cut it as they were too busy fixing a problem with some else's glass that they had messed up earlier. This was the second time I had had problems - the first being glass shelves they had mis-cut and required a second visit to return them. At that time I was told they could cut them down for me if I waited half-an hour - so I said instead that I would return a few hours later that day. When I got back they hadn't even started them and I was forced to hang around for 45 minutes. Disgraceful service that will never get my custom again. Think twice before you buy anything from these jokers. read more

The glass in one of my kitchen cabinets broke and the guys - especially Dave - over at Berkeley Glass Center were extremely helpful, and really fair. They gave me a couple of different options, explained the safety benefits of each and ended up convincing me to temper the glass on each of my cabinet doors and make sure they were sealed properly. I have a one-year old at home and the last thing I want is for him to get injured. They gave me a great price and excellent service. read more

I ordered a dual pane unit from this outfit. It had no frame on it since I was installing in my own frame in a wall. Craig said it would be ready within 3 or 4 days. About 10 days later I called and Craig said it hadn't come in yet and he would phone me. He never did. About 2 weeks later I called and the manager said that the window was there and he wasn't sure why Craig hadn't phoned me. I sent a workman to pick op the unit. After he got it back here, and went to install it, the window had a 4" difficult to see crack in it. I asked my workman (of 8 years) if he had dropped. He said no. I called the glass outfit. I said it looked to me that they had knowingly sold me a cracked unit and that was why I never got a call back. The manager said that Craig didn't have my phone number. The other two times I called they never said they didn't have my number. Craig also told me that when my workman picked up the window he examined it. That was false. Craig took a blanket from my workman and wrapped it around the window and taped it and loaded in my truck. Craig never invited or suggested that my workman inspect the window. His claim was untrue. I think this outfit sold me a window that they had broken in their shop. read more
