He and my wife (who's a physical therapist although she did not mention this) had a good back-and-forth over chair and user heights, angles, and other variables. The place is a bit messy but there's a good selection of premium office chairs and David knows where everything is. If you went to Cal, mention it; I have no idea if that impacts price or service but it seemed to create a favorable impression. We're so lucky to have a business like this in the area! I really needed to get a standing desk and it was super easy contacting the owner David to see what they had in their inventory. He got back to me right away and the following weekend I was able to stop by and pick up a Steelcase AMQ desk. It saved me so much time and I'm so relieved I don't have to deal with Facebook Marketplace looking for something similar. I ordered a desk, small cabinet and panels (This was a smaller order after a larger order). I expected the order to arrive in aprox 10 to 12 days. While I was out of town, they asked to deliver everything earlier than planned because they would be in the neighborhood. I was willing to accommodate the request, understanding that they were trying to be efficient, and had them deliver the items when my staff was in the office. (DO NOT EVER DO THIS!) When I returned, I found the desk (OK) the small cabinet with no top and the wrong panels had been delivered and set up incorrectly (after a long discussion about how they were to be configured before I placed the order). I called the shop and was lectured about my direct attitude (I basically got to the point rather than exchanging 10 minutes of niceties!) I was told that often cabinets for under desks have no top - I ordered an electric standing desk so I am unclear why he thought that made sense) I also asked that someone come and re-configure the panels the way I had ask for them to be set up. David proceeded to blame me for not instructing my staff when they took the shipment so it was my fault the panels were set up incorrectly. He had someone come and put a top on the cabinet - without calling ahead and I while I was out getting lunch. I called the next day and said thank you for fixing the cabinet but the panels are still not the panels I ordered and paid for (The ones I paid for were more expensive than the ones I received) nor are they configured correctly. He again argued that that was my fault. I asked him to come get the panels he delivered and bring the panels I paid for or reimburse me for the over payment and come reconfigure the panels I received. He said he would get beck to me to me with a proposal. 5 phone call messages from me to him and nothing. I will NEVER buy office furniture from this store again. The fact that yelp is my only recourse is shameful. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY unless you are happy getting pitiful service and the wrong products. read more

Who knew that a resell office furniture store exists?! I surely didn't until recently when settling into a new space and setting up shop to work remotely. I called for an appointment a few days before and arrived on President's Day. After researching for quite some time, I knew exactly what I was looking for in an office chair and shared that with Ryan, salesman on duty. Ryan knew exactly what I was looking for and directed me to a Steelcase brand chair. When I sat in it, my butt felt right at ease, as well as my back. He also showed me another Steelcase chair called the "Think Tank" chair, the cushion was good, but I needed a little more back support. The price difference between the 2 was over $100. During this particular visit, I walked out empty-handed, but I left with tons of knowledge about chairs and will sleep on some of these chair facts. I just bought that a Steelcase Gesture here and would highly recommend it! I went on a Sunday morning and had 1:1 help from the young man at the store. There was a large variety of chairs, and all were offered at a big (50%+) discount compared to buying retail. The furniture is gently used and with some scuffs, but functionally in great condition. I was researching for months on what kind of sit stand desk I should purchase. It's been a year since the bf and I have been wfh since the pandemic started and I desperately needed an ergo friendly reliable sit stand desk, because working in the kitchen was definitely not beneficial to my ergo needs. Mind you I've been working from my laptop and pretty much can work anywhere I wanted to, but at my age and athletic/work mishaps, I definitely needed to invest in a sturdy reliable sit stand desk. Working in tech for over 7 years, I've been through quite a few sit stand desks and with the bf receiving a Workrite sit stand desk from his employer amid the pandemic, and being able to work on it a few times, I wanted one too but definitely did not want to spend over $600 for a desk. I did quite an extensive search on Amazon, online, and visiting office furniture stores but wasn't quite happy with their reviews nor the feels when we saw a few desks at retailers. Alas, I came upon Berkeley Office Interiors, thanks to Yelp! We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and met Ryan who was super helpful and knowledgeable of sit stand desks. They offered a few Workrite desks too! Some models on display were already sold, but luckily they had the one we were interested in, in stock. Keep in mind that some may be open box or older models but that's why they're affordable. Ryan effortlessly provided great tips on how to build it and made sure we can fit it in the bf's truck. As we finished the sale a customer came in, but Ryan still assisted us in carrying the desk parts (heavy parts too) and still helped out the customer too! [Note this was based on our visit + purchase in July 2020] TL;DR Good selection of discounted office furniture. David's a nice guy, can be talkative (so your visit may be longer than you expect). He messed up our order, initially reacted strangely and didn't apologize, but then called me and apologized, gave us free shipping, and offered fairly significant free office furniture to compensate. Overall happy with our experience! -- THE COST: Spent $859 before taxes on a used (like new condition, though needed a good cleaning) Herman Miller Sayl, a new motorized standing desk (top and legs/motor are separate), plus $20 shipping to SF in May 2020. THE SELECTION: David has a lot of options at his store and they get new shipments every week, so even though they didn't have the exact desk I wanted at the time (cherry wood, 24"x48"), they would be able to get it the next week. SOCIAL DISTANCING: David followed COVID precautions by allowing customers come by appointment only. There was one other customer there during the same hour as us, and he turned away several other walk-ins. INTERACTING WITH DAVID: David is really friendly, and pretty talkative. We meant to be in and out in 30-45 minutes but ended up staying about 90 minutes. We had done a lot of research into office chairs and knew certain things that were really important to us - adjustable arms, firmer back. However, even after telling him this, he still was kind of stuck on his own train of thought and kept going with his spiel of favorite chairs. Not that that wasn't useful, but it didn't seem like he was able to pivot his talking points to our specific needs. He seems knowledgeable about ergonomics, that you want to be able to lean on your chair slightly, what should work for different body types. But when we asked specifically if it's ok to be leaned back and have your head tilted slightly from your spine, he said he's not an ergonomist and doesn't know about those things. We found a chair that we liked, as well as a sit/stand desk (they only sell motorized ones, and he said no one wants crank ones which is what I'd been set on, but now I'm glad he talked us out of it). The desk is high quality, comes from a company called Hat Contract. When we ask what model it is, and what warranty it comes for, David doesn't know these things. He suggests we contact Hat directly. [Note that we later do contact Hat. We are not covered on any warranty because Berkeley Office Interiors is not an official Hat dealer. However, looking at Hat's catalog online, we got an insane discount!] MISTAKE ON OUR ORDER: We originally wanted Walnut 30"x48", but changed our minds (while at the store, within 10 minutes of our original choice) to get Cherry stain and smaller footprint at 24"x48". He wrote this all out on his white board, inputted this into Square, and we paid. The desk was to be ordered that Wednesday and delivered Thursday. I called Wednesday, saying "This is Ziyan, we bought the Sayl chair on Saturday and ordered the motorized desk with Cherry stained top. Can you confirm you're getting the Cherry top tomorrow?" (I had some other questions as well), and he confirmed. The next day, we get a text from his delivery guy Chris, saying "We weren't able to get the Walnut for you." He also thought we were getting it in 30"x48" (which is incorrect). I told him what our actual order was (Cherry 24"x48"), but he didn't know about this order. I end up talking to David on the phone, and he just sounds confused. We have the order, Cherry 24"x48" on our Square receipt - but he tells me he is unable to see details on our receipt (that's fair, but I don't know how I'm supposed to know that). He just sounds confused - he keeps saying, "If we had known you were getting the Cherry, we could have had that ready for you today," - which really doesn't make me feel any better. No apology. He seems to just keep questioning why he didn't know we got the Cherry desk top (yeah, we're wondering the same thing ourselves!). Later on, David calls me again, and this time apologizes for the mistake, and seems confused how he even made a mistake. He offers either a desk lamp, small file cabinet, or monitor stand to compensate. We're not sure, so he offers to bring all three when the desk is delivered so we can make a decision. He also says delivery will be free. In the end, we got our desk 1 week later than expected, with a free lamp, and free delivery. The delay wasn't a huge deal, and our products 5 months later are still great! read more

I had been unaware of this store, which I found via a Yelp search, and came here first because it was closest. It's located in the small strip mall next to R. Kassman Pianos. There are two designated parking spaces right in front, one for people w/ disabled placards. I walked in, looked around and saw a few desks. The man who I presume is the owner greeted me from upstairs. He explained that they were more a business to business place and they don't have a large selection in the store. They don't do inside deliveries. In all, it wasn't the kind of warehouse store full of used office furniture I was looking for. I got recommended to this place by one of my colleagues. Pros: - Mask is required to get in the store. Everybody is wearing mask and makes me feel safe. - MANY SELECTIONS OF CHAIRS. The first thing you see entering the store are CHAIRS. You are free to try and play with whichever you like. - David is an awesome guy. He knows all the chairs he's selling, and their correct positioning and adjustment. He tries to make everyone happy and find the right chair. Especially for some ergonomic chairs, without his demo I totally don't know how they work. Cons: - Limited parking spot (I think I only saw one) in front of the store. But there are plenty of street parking around. - The store is a little packed with all the chairs. It may be hard if you prefer to have bigger personal space to try on chairs. - I went on Saturday 4pm and stayed for almost 2 hours. There are always 3 to 8 customers in the store and kept David very busy. Even if you made an appointment, David may sometimes need to help out walk-in customers. But this is totally understandable because it's a hard time for everyone in COVID-19 and David is the only one in the store to help out. Tips for whoever wants to visit: - before you go, did some research and see what kind of chairs you are looking for - know your budget - if you don't want to spend too much time waiting in the store, call David first :) you can schedule an appointment, or let him know ahead what you are looking for - be a little be more patient and understanding :) - Yelp has $20 off coupon!!!! His truck with all the Aeron chairs will come from Santa Clara all the way up to Berkeley on Wednesday. He offered that if I can call on Wednesday morning, he can stop by Fremont and have me try the chair. I truly appreciate his accommodation especially during COVID-19. However, I got busy on Wednesday morning and forgot to call David. So I decided to go to the store on Saturday. David demoed at least 5 different ergonomic chairs to me. Here's my experience. Like many, I'm working from home. Been using the kitchen counter plus a cardboard box to make a "standing desk" for a month, today I had it and thought to search craigslist and found their ad. Made an appointment with David, drove over, and he safely (masks, gloves, etc), expertly and patiently guided me through the choice of 3 desks, and then spent another 15-20 minutes talking me through choices of chairs, giving lessons in ergonomic design along the way. Yes, he talks a lot. I was happy he did, because if I had just rolled up to buy a desk and didn't get a chair, I'd still be in pain. I ended up with an ex-Google electric standing desk plus a "real" chair for around $750 out the door. Yes, that's a bit of money, but I think it will be worth it. I'm sure in normal times he buys and sells in large quantities, but my experience as a one-off retail customer was perfect. read more

I surprisingly had such a wonderful and positive experience here. I was looking for a chair to help maintain a good posture, and not slouch while typing. David was very thorough in giving me information on how to sit properly in a chair, and was honest about each brand of chair. This is something I greatly appreciated, as he was not pushing me to buy the most expensive, top of the line brand, rather, helping me find a chair that really suited me and that i liked and felt comfortable in. My wife purchased a new two drawer locking file cabinet for her office at Berkeley Office Interiors for almost $300. After three weeks of light use, the lock failed and the cabinet stopped locking. When she went to the store to exchange it, David blamed us for not installing the castors, and accused her of breaking the lock. David insisted they did not have a return policy, and reluctantly took the cabinet back despite the fact that we purchased it new. After some heated discussion, he agreed to exchange it and acted like he was doing us a large favor. He also groused about selling small amounts of office furniture, as mentioned in previous reviews. If he doesn't want to sell to small customers, he should just stop, and save us the trouble of dealing with his bad attitude and poor quality furniture. When the replacement cabinet arrived, I insisted that David take it out of the box. Resentfully, he opened the box. The new cabinet also had a broken lock. Despite this, David persisted in blaming my wife for breaking the previous cabinet, and refused to apologize for his staff's behavior. We insisted on a refund. We shopped here because we value local merchants and good customer service over a cheap bargain. This is the worst customer service we have ever experienced in Berkeley. read more
