The shopping experience here was top notch! I gave the store a call early in the week and the owner picked up. I told him I was looking for an Aeron, or any chair that would work for me since I have been working from home. The owner was very knowledgeable and took down some of my measurements to get a chair in mind and set an appointment for me. When I showed up the owner was not in, but the gentlemen that helped me was just as knowledgeable, and let me sit in as many chairs that I wanted, talked about the positives and negatives of each chair. He spent a solid 30 minutes with me and let me sit and mess with several chairs. The best part are the prices!! Herman Miller and Steelcase chairs are prohibitively pricey, but here they are more than reasonable! I got a Steelcase that retails for $1100 for $430! Overall, very pleased and highly recommend anyone that is looking for a high end office chair to come check this place out. read more

David helped to find me an office chair that has saved my back in COVID work-from-home times. He described how to adjust the seat, how to actually sit in it without developing back pain, and all with a smile and bubbly attitude underneath his mask. He never tried to oversell me (gear me towards a more expensive, less functional chair) and on top of that he helped to wrap the chair and safely secure it in my vehicle. Really great experience! The staff are friendly, social, and know a lot about what makes a good ergonomic chair, not just a gimmicky one. You can try a lot of options for style of chair at a range of prices while you're in the store. I'm incredibly happy with my chair and desk. I wanted to buy an office chair for myself, and had some specific requirements for it. I first had to wait for about 10 minutes for someone to talk to, but at least I could try out the chairs they had in that time. Their selection was rather small and I didn't find what I was looking for, so I described what I wanted. And I was repeatedly told that I should look for a different kind of chair and that what I want is "bad". (To be fair, they offered to order a more promising chair from their catalog so I could try it in their store, but I already knew it wasn't quite what I wanted.) I was beginning to feel that this wasn't the right place for me, but there aren't many furniture stores in Berkeley, which I mentioned to the person I was talking to. He started telling me about how unfairly the customers were treating retail furniture stores by shopping on Amazon - and I understand that Amazon competes with local retail, but it's not something to complain to a customer about. I understand that selling to private individuals isn't Berkeley Office Interiors' main business, but this was definitely worse than I expected. read more

After a horrible experience with Kantors, my husband suggested we "try: this place. Upon arrival, I did not think we would find what we were looking for. Then David came over, mask on and expertly and patiently guided me through what makes you comfortable in a chair and like other reviews, I can say he does talk a lot, but the lessons in ergonomics were worth the time. I love my new chair and my work situation is much more comfortable. The chair was not inexpensive, but it is certainly a game changer for those of us needing to be in our chairs most of the day. This place is definitely worth the trip. Don't waste your time on garbage chairs at Office Depot, like I had done. And certainly the folks at Kantors did not seem too interested in my business. I knew exactly what I wanted, which were right there on the sales floor, and he refused to sell them to me because it wasn't worth his time and he only deals with large orders? David and his team did an outstanding job transforming our old and uninspiring office interior into a sleek, professional, space. As an Oakland based nonprofit we were on a tight budget. David respected our budget limits and devised a solution that included reusing parts of our old workstation surfaces and integrating them into the new workstations. We also had space limits that included making room for more people in a smaller space, and David and his team made that happen by trimming down each work area just enough to fit seven people into an area that previously held five. Now our accounting team has an area all to themselves, as does our administrative team. Having a dedicated space for each department has also helped improve communication and build camaraderie. Afterwards, I took a trip to their main office and was shown all the different configurations and options that would work with our space. David took his time to help me understand the options, and he was professional throughout the whole purchase and delivery. Berkeley Office Interiors furnished our office with new and used furniture. We were looking for modern furniture. Before going to BOI, I went to other excess office solutions stores, but they did not have a selection of matching modern furniture. BOI has modern furniture that matches, in large quantity, and quality as well. The thing I liked the most was that David added value with his years of experience. David spent time at our office location, and for each room, discussed how the layout of the desking would affect productivity. He gave his professional opinion to help us get it right the first time around. Now that's added value! He also helped me understand functional space usage and maximizing the happiness for each of the employees' desk layouts, which they are now super happy about. I just had a "why have I never shopped here before?" experience at Berkeley Office Interiors. I came in thinking I wanted a specific chair, which David was happy to show, demonstrate, and tell me about. He spoke knowledgeably not only about how to adjust the chair, but how to sit in it (and use its various adjustments) in ways suited to particular activities: typing at a desk, scrolling with a mouse, reading a screen without hands on the keyboard, watching a video or a movie, etc. Then, when I expressed interest in alternatives he might recommend, he proceeded to give me a very welcome tutorial about several other chairs (all of them less expensive than the one I came in for) -- one of which I ended up purchasing. Terrific guidance, responsive to my particular needs, and absolutely no pressure to buy or avoid any particular chair. Very unprofessional operation. I ordered two chairs to be shipped to the store. Elijah said it would take a week or less. After a week I called. It turns out he never ordered the chairs at all. I complained that he should have called me and let me know, and asked him to order them now. He said he didn't know if they could, that it was not a high priority, that I couldn't expect him to drop everything for this. Stopped by one weekend to look for six office chairs. Son of owner showed me chairs and quoted me $200 each. Came back during the week to buy them from the dad, who refused to honor the price son had quoted. Kept telling me they were $2,000 each when new. Yeah, but . . . . Then, offered to sell them to me for $400 each. Then offered to sell me some cheap Chinese-made chairs. Went around the corner to Bay Home on Eastshore Highway, where Joe sold me similar or better chairs for a fair price. Also told me the chairs were probably $2,000 new, but Joe recognizes that used furniture is, well, used. In response to your response: Yes, it happened. I came there on April 9. You had many "Moda" chairs. I came back on the 11th to buy them, but you were busy with a customer, finally excused yourself for a moment when the interaction happened. YOU should be ashamed for not taking responsibility. In any case, you can sell chairs for whatever price you want, but if your staff states a price, you need to honor it. read more

About a year and a half ago our company moved. We needed new office furnishings and consultation so we contacted Berkeley Office Interiors. Yvette, their interior design consultant, came to our new office and made some AMAZING recommendations, and made sure everything came together on schedule. Recently one of our employees' drawers got stuck and wouldn't open. We called to see if there was a warranty, and the owner David came right out to fix the drawer. He was fast, on time and absolutely professional. He told us he was going to replace the drawer and come install it himself when it came in. When was the last time I was moved to write a thank you letter to a business? This local used office furniture shop - is a rare gem. I went mid-week, no wait, and Chris patiently showed me the sit/stand desks and the chairs and all i can say is that the vibe was calm, kind, and patient and the prices so reasonable that I left the store in a sort of daze because it's been such a long time that I've experienced a shopping experience with staff who are not only truly knowledgable but also skillful communicators. A week later I had an issue with my sit / stand desk (my fault) and Chris found the time to come over and trouble shoot and get it back into shape. Chris's manner reminded me of the people who staffed the Wholeearth Access store... back in the day. And there was nothing of the "I'm being nice so that you'll write a nice review" bullshit that we see so much these days. Things started off well. We went for our appointment, the owner was friendly and helpful. We ordered and the invoice came quickly, we paid and a time was set up. I thought things had gone so well at the start I was planning on ordering more down the line. I was assured that they just had to be let in and they would install everything and leave the key behind. No one was needed to stay. Then on the delivery day things started to arrive and I noticed a few of the chair casters were missing on one chair. I had bought used chairs but had been assured that the chairs were all in good condition with no missing or broken parts. I was told that they had probably fallen off in the truck, but they hadn't. I was then told I would be called to set up a time to replace them. I got one call saying that he might be in on Monday and would call back but he didn't. Then when brought up the topic again and gave them a couple days that they could come by and they said they would try-again no one called or contacted me. When I arrived after everything was installed I noticed that the desk lags were all incorrect. They weren't what was ordered. I sent an email that night notifying them of this and got no response. Send another email 10 days later and was told I should have told them right away-which I had. The ones I wanted had been backordered. Without telling me this or asking if a change was ok-they just switched them out and thought I wouldn't notice. I would have made arrangements for other desks because what they sent I told him I specifically did not want. I was then told they would make a special allowance for me because they did not allow returns. I could return them within 48 hours for a credit but would need to bring them back and pick the new ones up myself. That's legs for 6 desks which I had no way of transporting. This wasn't my mistake-it was theirs. I paid $750 for delivery and installation of items I had ordered and now was being told I had to install and pick up things myself. I am very disappointment and would not order from them again. They sent the wrong items and delivered broken items. Then they ignored my requests to fix the items while they said they tried to call multiple times which did not happen. Besides that one call they never tried again. As soon as they got my money things went downhill. I would highly suggest taking your business elsewhere. You might not get what you ordered and paid for-or your furniture might arrive broken. read more

We used Berkeley Office Interiors to furnish our remodeled office space. Our space had kind of an odd shape (think wide hallway) so I was struggling with the best configuration that would provide ample work space and some modicum of privacy. David was super helpful, even visiting the office and making suggestions about materials and colors that would be best for our situation. He also furnished our conference room with a perfectly sized table (with integrated a/v hookups) and 8 amazingly comfortable Maarten Van Severen chairs (which we bought used for a fraction of the new price).
