Berlin Doener is good and will appeal to many people. I hay been on the search for the Doener as they serve in various German cities, usually in the areas populated by the Turkish population and other people of Middle Eastern origin in those cities. Colloquially they become known as Arabisches Gyros and are served up with the spice level turned up. I have not been able to find this in the US and still have not; though, they give it the effort at Berlin Doener. I was passing by Berlin Doener one evening and almost kept walking, given I have not been able to find the Doener served up the way they do in Germany. However, I walked in and the two guys working there were as gracious as they could be. They offered me a sample of the lamb and it was like so many other places in the US, but they said they had a spicy sauce and I could see the shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, onions, pickles and pickled red cabbage or radishes. So I opted for the Doener bowl to go and ate it at hit. They gave me an extra to go ramekin of their spicy sauce, along with their white sauce. They shaved the lamb and placed it one container and put the veggies in the other container. They gave me a quarter of the bread round, which is similar to pita, but thicker and fluffier. It warms up nicely when you sprinkle it with water, wrap it up again in its aluminum foil, and warm it in the oven along with the lamb. The lamb is very tender, but not spicy. I needed every bit of the spicy sauce to boost the flavor, but it did not hit me the way I have experienced, but it was a good attempt. They have great service at Berlin Doener and most people who have not had the Doener and Arabisches Gyros in Germany will not know the difference. 3.4 stars read more

Went here on Halloween during the parade in the village, the streets were bursting at the seams with people, we wanted a quick bite so we stopped in to Berlin Doner, they have a simple menu consisting of the usual Turkish fast food items you can expect, we got a chicken wrap and beef wrap with all the condiments, pickles, onion, cabbage, white sauce. It was fresh hot and delicious, there were only two people behind the counter but were extremely efficient. You can expect to done $17 for a sandwich and a soda. I've doner lot of things in my life, and one of them is to eat here at Berlin Doner, although during winter months it gets temporarily renamed to Brrrrrrrrr-lin Doner. It's been a long time since the first time I came here. Pretty much as soon as it popped up on MacDougal Street I became a regular customer, because I grew up in Europe eating Doners so often that I must be part Doner by now. They're good people and they make good products. It's never blown me away like some of the British Doners and a few of the German Doners and of course the authentic Istanbul stuff does, and there's much better Turkish kebab out there - for example some of the ones up in Toronto and especially over in Europe as I said - but in this part of town, this is one of the better ones you can get, possibly even the best in Manhattan. The place was good a month ago. Now it is getting worse and worse First and foremost they just increased the price for couple dollars, and generic lunch cost increased from around $10 to $15. In my opinion it is not worth. Where you can get better sandwich from the same area for cheaper price. Second meat quality was pretty bad on my last try. Unlike regular pita, their bread has amazing chew and holds up for a long time when you're eating it. The choices are simple - but very fresh. I got the Falafel and I chose the Lamb for my husband. My husband was so tickled that I picked this up for him - but was even more delighted when he ate it. The veggies were crisp and fresh, the meat flavorful and tender. It was a messy bit of joy that transported him back to his college years. The two women working there (mother and daughter, perhaps) were so nice and friendly. It's been a rough time for small businesses like theirs, but they haven't let their quality or service slip in the slightest.
