I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's cheap, it's flavorful. I love the combination plate. I look forward to the next time I return! Always ask for the white sauce!

Thief that short changed us, yelled and gave us part of our money back. We had to go back after realizing he stiffed us again.

Beware if you see the guy in the pic by Ruwan of "Grill guy" from 5 months before my review. Guy is a thief. He talked me into a can of soda with my meal saying it was a dollar. Short changed us by charging us 2 bucks for it. When I called him out, he made excuses claiming it was 2, I told him I didn't want it. He gave me a dollar back while yelling. Then, we had to walk back there a few minutes later because we realized he only gave me 1 dollar back and not the 2 he owed me. Food is bland cart food. There are plenty of better options in the area and throughout lower Manhattan. A quick search on yelp will show some good ones.

I usually have halal guy that the meat was chopped up, here's is bigger chunk which feels very different but still very yummy. Glad they still serve lamb as the halah guy at MoMa no longer does. Once in a while crave for the unhealthy combi over rice...!

Chicken and lamb over rice $7

The service is gruff but the food is good. $6 for chicken or lamb over rice, and $7 for both. The food comes out fast and hot! The first time, I'd barely ordered before it was already in front of me. Chicken was in really large, tender chunks the first time (really good), but chopped smaller the second time when I got the combo over rice. Lamb is okay. The rice is pretty tasty and you're given a good amount of sauce. Everything is flavorful. Hot sauce isn't crazy spicy or anything, but the white sauce makes the dish. Decent amount of salad on the side too. Would recommend for a cheap, hot meal in Soho.

Lamb and chicken over rice combination

I was having a great day off hanging out with a friend and we decided to go and get some Halal food. The entire drive to the city all I could think about was the aromas and spices of the food,so once we got to the stand I ordered a chicken and lamb combination over rice with white sauce and hot sauce and boy was the hot sauce hot. I enjoyed every bite of the food and and my taste buds were running wild. The oner of the food stand was very friendly and made great convo with the customers For roughly 7$ you cannot beat it the traffic is the only thing that makes the trip suck.

Kati roll looked more like a giant taco

out of curiosity, I got the kati roll recently for $4. Ok, it's not a legit authentic kati roll. Its basically the chicken from the chicken rice in a paratha. It's even covered in the white sauce. But, I'm giving it 5 stars as it was amazing! the paratha was hot, crispy and buttery! this thing was no roll, it looked more like a giant taco with its guts spewing out. the meat was juicy and flavorful mixed in with sweet onions and bell peppers. smothered with the white sauce, it was savory, creamy and sweet. This halal chicken taco kati thing was topped off like a chicken rice plate with lettuce and tomatoes. would i get this over a chicken rice plate? naw, for $1 more, you get more bang for the buck as at the end of the day, $5 gets you essentially the same thing but in a giant box with rice while this is like 1/4 of the meat and its wrapped up like an oversized taco. you really need to want a paratha first for this to be worth it.

Chicken with rice with hot sauce, white sauce, and green sauce (1)

This is one of my favorite halal carts. Located on the corner of Houston St. and Broadway, it's very conveniently located near several subway stops in Soho. Chicken and rice is my choice of food here. I'm a pretty big fan of halal, and I have tried many halal carts thoughout the city and I think this one is up there with the best. The value here is excellent. It's $5 for chicken and rice. The chicken here is marinated and tastes more like Sammy's halal than Halal guys. The rice is also flavored. They usually have green sauce here so I get it with white, hot, and green sauce. The combination is very flavorful. More often than not the sizing of your platter is pretty large, although sometimes I haven't gotten as heaping of a share as others. The taste also isn't as consistent, as I would like. However, because of the price and taste, I'd still say this cart is five stars. There isn't many places to sit around here, so you'll probably have to take your platter to go or stand and eat it.

Honestly I was always under the impression that food cart would give me food poisoning and diarrhea. I'm happy to announce my stomach is not only intact, it is thanking me for this delicious food. Also my wallet is thanking me too cuz it was so cheap!! $7 chicken over rice!!!

$5 Chicken Over Rice. Game. Set. Match. Get twice the meat for a dollar exta. Best halal cart in SoHo. Maybe even the best halal cart in NYC.

BUT, imho Adel's doesn't really taste as good as the original Halal Guys in terms of flavor and fragrance. The chicken from Adel's is in bigger chunks and some argue is more tender, but the flavor is definitely not close. Also, it's important that it comes with lettuce, tomatoes and a little onion to balance everything out. Finally, You must get both the spicy red and white sauce together to make it all come together! The Ugly: The smell is addictive, so if you walk by, it's hard to resist, even if you've just eaten a nice meal somewhere else. We couldn't resist. Gotta hit the gym hard for the next few days!

And that line is no joke. You will wait. Plan accordingly. Here's my dilemma: every single time I eat here, my stomach lets me know about it later. Without fail. I've tried adjusting the hot sauce, going easy on portions... doesn't matter. Something about this food and my digestive system just don't agree. At this point I have to accept that it's probably not for me. So why do I keep coming back? Because at 2 AM after a late night, when everything else is closed and you're starving in Times Square, that platter of chicken and rice over white sauce smells like salvation. They're the only game in town at that hour, and honestly, in the moment, it hits. It's the next morning I regret it. If your stomach handles it better than mine, you'll probably love it. The food is tasty and the portions are huge for the price. I just wish I could enjoy it without paying for it twice.

I do think they do as good of a job managing it as possible, but it is still quite the long line. If you do decide to wait in the line, I recommend sending a friend over to Magnolia Bakery to get you a treat while you pass the time. Overall, the lamb and chicken were extremely tender and flavorful. The sauce and rice were great as well, complementing them perfectly. The service is very efficient, and they do have a few cards set up to maximize the efficiency. It was great, and I'd say it's worth trying if the line is short! Otherwise, I would pivot to another nearby great option that you can easily find.

It wasn't the best quality frankfurter, but somehow it worked with my indiscriminate palette. Flash forward a century or so, and this is the only Gray's Papaya left in the city. Since I'm a survivor, I thought it only appropriate to take Jamie to the original flagship location and order what else but the Recession Special. Sure enough, they still offer it for $7.50. It was $1.95 when I was a child, but it's still a good deal consisting of 2 Hot Dogs (Photo 10) and a Medium Papaya Drink (Photo 9). The franks were the same as I recall, nothing special but if you add onions and pay an extra 75 cents for the chili, it just works. The papaya drink is not a fruit juice but a puree mixed with sugar and milk. It actually complements the dog in a guilty pleasure kind of way. There was a line but it moved fast.
