Good service. Extremely friendly guys. I called Lynn and scheduled the appointment 2 weeks in advance. Lynn goes over the prices in extreme detail. It's a base rate of $150/hr. They accept credit card. I told them I live on the 3rd floor, so that's an extra $10/hr. I was moving to 3rd floor and it's an extra $10/hr. Transport is $170/hr. So for less than 30 min drive it's $85. You place a $170 deposit to secure your spot that is applied to final fee. They called when they arrived which was 5 min after schedule time. 3 guys arrived. I went over what to pack and they marked it. They packed all 25 boxes, a bed, coffee table, sofa, desk, 2 dressers, Peloton bike all packed up in 40 min. Then they unpacked and placed everything in the right place in 60 min. Total for my move was $565 Don't forget to tip in cash to the movers. read more

After talking with Lynn Bernard on the phone I decided to go with their quote and book three movers. I was moving out of my family's suburban home in to a place downtown. Under their masks I could tell they came with bright shining faces even though the sky was dark, gloomy, and raining. The first stop was a garage where they had to pick up 100 boxes of flooring and move it to the back of the truck. No complaints from the team and they worked quickly. My building had me on a tight schedule to use the freight elevator. I was not worried because they were very efficient. Then we headed to my home to pack up two rooms worth of furniture. Our movers were amazing! FIRST Junior was a star loading that flooring ten high (Hope your shoulder gets a day off!!) Adam was a great leader and walked us through the paperwork leaving us with no questions unanswered. Ethan was soooo nice and worked with precision and positivity (Gorg eyes!). They even stopped to grab another teammate Big Juan to speed up the process to hit our elevator window. Big Juan knows what he is doing! At the building it was go, go, go. Everything was in the same condition before the move. We have a 9 foot couch in a PHYSICALLY impossible elevator and hallway that got the best of us but they tried EVERYTHING. We would give a suggestion and without hesitation it was given a valiant effort. Thank you Bernard movers! I was pooped after the move... I have to say it has taken me a year to become level headed to write this review. My husband and I researched dozens of movers for our latest move, August 2017 and could not have been more disappointed. We hired them for 2 hours since we were only moving floors and needed muscle to move the heavier stuff. So we paid for an hour we didn't need and the woman, Lynn on the phone was less than professional. She never returned our phone calls and completely ignored us when we left messages. They were an hour and a half late to move our apartment and I received no updates from the company. I called several times during the hour and a half to ask for an update and there was no answer. I live in a a high rise where you have to reserve the service elevator and there is no moving after a certain time when I explained to them several times prior to the move that it was imperative that they arrive on time. They were frustrated when I asked them to move boxes around so my husband and I could actually live in the apartment, as we were unpacking. Directions were not their strong suit on where boxes were going even those they were clearly marked and I walked through with the head guy on where items were to go. They then lingered for tip expecting a good one, why would you expect a good when you did terrible service and were paid for an entire hour you didn't work? We will never be using them again and never suggest them to anyone else. read more

I had a positive experience with Bernard Movers. When it came to scheduling my move, it was smooth and easy. No fast talking and everything was explained in the simplest terms. Hours later, when I found out that my apartment building was not able to accommodate my move time, the woman I spoke with on the phone was able to change my reservation. The truck arrived early in the window of time provided. The foreman was extremely professional and polite. The team moved my items with care and took extra time to package and handle fragile items, such as an all-glass coffee table. There were no hidden charges and, with the way the contract is laid out, really no possibility for there to be hidden charges. So, in response to older negative reviews, that isn't something that you should worry about. A word of advice that I would give on moving, in general, is that it takes longer than anticipated. I had a ~750 sq ft apartment with everything aside from large furniture pieces pre-packed and being moved just 5 blocks and what I thought would take two hours took in upwards of three. I wouldn't classify this service specifically as slow. One other thing to keep in mind is that it is common to tip movers a non-trivial sum. I didn't realize this until they came and referenced the tip in a very appropriate way--I actually had to do a Google search then run to the ATM before the move completed. Obviously, the tip is optional, and this isn't a high-pressure situation, but there are helpful guidelines you can find on the internet that will help you not embarrass yourself like I almost did. read more

I had another excellent experience with Bernard movers yesterday. They sent me three guys (Vinnie, Gus, and Chris) who were very quick, friendly, and helpful. They went above and beyond by helping me set up some furniture pieces. I was very impressed by their work and speed. This is my third time using Bernard because I trust them. They deserve five stars but I will comment that even though I have used Bernard three times, the company doesn't have any record that I have used them meaning which is kind of annoying. I'm moving the same stuff and it would be better to update the furniture than start from scratch each time and in terms of customer service there is no continuity which makes the loyalty feel one sided. We used them in March 2022 to move from a high rise near downtown Chicago to a single family home near Downers Grove. Overall a great experience with fair prices. The movers were equally careful and efficient. This hourly rate was the lowest among several movers I checked ($130/hr for 3 movers for us). We were charged 5.5 hours for our moving 1Bed/1Den/1Bath unit, which included setup, loading, transport, and unloading into the rooms we designated. There was also a trucking fee of $162. We did 100% of our own packing. The movers disassembled furniture when necessary and reassembled it. The reason that I didn't give 5 stars is because the company has no online quote/billing/receipt system. I gave my inventory over the phone. Since they don't share any online info, there was initially a discrepancy on the time of the move (some emails quickly resolved this) and the trucking fee (quickly resolved at final billing). Overall would recommend this firm for moving (fair price, good service) as long as you don't need an online quote/billing system. Just call to confirm everything. read more

There was even one year where they helped me coordinate with a different moving company when they were booked solid on my move date. My most recent move was between two apartment buildings that required the elevators in both buildings to be blocked off from 9am-12pm. When I bought my dream condo in the Loop, I never imagined what a nightmare move would look like. I didn't own a lot of expensive things and didn't feel like it was necessary to go through the steps of paying an expensive company extra money just to move my things five blocks, but I was VERY WRONG! I hired Bernard Movers in December of 2016. The majority of the move seemed to go well. I had three or four movers. They used dolly's and carried almost all large items in safely. Finally, it was time for them to move in my mattress. Instead of two men carrying in the mattress in box spring, one man decided to drag it across the floor. It was then that my brother brought it to my attention that the guy dragged the mattress and it ripped a few pieces off of my hand scrapped custom made hardwood flooring. Instead of him apologizing and owning up to his mistake he attempted to cover it up - very poorly! He removed the tape from the top half of the mattress leaving the pieces of wood splinter all over it (see photo #1) He left the tape that caused the rip on the floor (see photo 2 &3). When I brought this to their attention holding pieces of flooring that were broken apart (see photo 4) they said,"Oh you can just put some wood stain on that and you won't even notice." Wait, what... this is an answer to your movers tearing up my floor? Imagine how you'd feel if you purchased a luxury condo with custom made flooring and during the move, they destroy it and do not apologize nor do they offer any assistance. I've uploaded pictures of what the floor looked like before and during the move it was once very beautiful. I reached out to the owner, manager, and etc for assistance and did not receive any progress. The flooring I have is unique because it is a concrete building and there must be room for the titles or flooring to contract. It is called a "floating floor". You cannot glue pieces of wood onto a floating floor because during summer months when it's heavy heat and humidity it will buckle. Sadly, no one who came out to do the estimates knew much about installing floors in concrete high rise buildings. Finally, I find someone who installs floors in this building and they tell me that you cannot repair this flooring it has to be replaced! When I shared this with Bernard movers they went completely silent on me and I had to write it off as a loss. When I was deciding on which Condo to purchase in this building I selected this one because of the flawless fancy upgraded dark wood flooring it is no longer fancy or flawless. When I finished unpacking my things I found out that several boxes were missing and everything was glass! Three boxes of crystal wine glasses and the glass tops to my pots were all missing from my items when I unpacked. I realized that the same way the movers refused to acknowledge that they tore up my floor they also refused to acknowledge that they broke my glassware. My guess is the movers dropped the boxes and when they unloaded the truck they noticed they were broke because it made noise so they discarded them so I wouldn't find out right away. Not only did they go above and beyond to cover up their mistakes they never officially apologized for what they did. I can replace the glasses, I can even install a new floor, but I will never get back the feelings of trust that I had prior to this business deal. I'm going, to be honest, I cried over this. I feel like that naive trusting part that makes you less leery of people died during my negotiations with this company and yes my floor is still messed up. read more

You know what sucks? break ups. You know what doesn't suck? Bernard Movers. After 7 years of living with my partner I was overwhelmed with having to find a new place to live, boxing everything up and trying to convince whatever little friends I have with beer and pizza to move me out of a 3rd floor walk-up. So like and adult decided to hire a moving company and found myself on Bernard movers BBB page. I filed out a quote request and within 30 minutes of sending it off I revived a phone call from Lynn and she walked me through all the info and times and before I knew it I was scheduled for 3 movers and a truck on a Monday morning. Adam, Alvaro and Alberto were scheduled to show up between 8am and 9am, they showed up in the alley at 8:45 and by 9:45 all my boxes and small furniture were on the truck and ready to go. We got to the other location, all the way across town, and they guys had me unloaded in less time than it took to load the truck!! If I ever need to move again these guys will be the only company I will call and I will probably request the same movers. I had a very good experience with Bernard Movers. I had to be moved out of a third-floor walkup in Forest Park all the way out to Thornton (which some companies in the area wouldn't do). The rates were a bit lower than the company I used last year, and they include several wardrobe boxes, which is nice. The move took less time than Anthony and I estimated. He was helped by Big Juan and Kasper, and they were a really fun crew. They didn't damage anything despite having to work around a crew still installing stuff at my new place. The week before I had a little trouble getting a hold of someone in the office to confirm everything was still on track (the move hadn't been scheduled for a specific time, just "afternoon").
