My wife and I stopped by Bernies for a pastrami sandwich carry out, being from the north like most people here I felt that I know what a good pastrami is, well this was the worst one we have ever tasted, it had a funny smell to it and I asked for the sandwich on rye and I don't know what kind of rye it was but it did not taste or look like rye, the value was not there, I asked for the large sandwich not the normal size, it cost $16 and it looked like a regular size sandwich, I hate to see what a normal size sandwich looked like, I also ordered a side of cole slaw and the amount was no more than 2 mouthful for $3, I will not go there again read more

Amazing service,the bloody Mary's are to die for! The owners always welcome you when you arrive and they really care about your experience. In response to the comment about Bernies seeming racist...though I can't relate to your 1 experience, I can comment on what I have witnessed myself and they don't discriminate. I have been going to this place regularly for 2 years - at one point almost daily and in general I'm incredibly observant. They are hard working good people and I've seen them treat every customer no matter their age, race or background with respect and appreciation for their business - especially the owner. They have a small number of employees and sometimes have trouble managing the crowd - their communication isn't great sometimes. I have had the same occurrence happen to me where others have been seated after me that got menus, water and orders. read more

Went in today and wasn't as good. Service and food. This was our 2nd visit. The first time, liked it much better, but this visit food quality was flavorless and the service was poor is the only word I can use to describe it, unlike the first visit. They have a large menu, but you can't switch cheese options, they don't carry a lot of options of cheese (no mozzerella for instance) instead of provolone. Visiting Bonita springs for the weekend. Came across this little gem on Yelp so we decided to come try it. Cute little place with indoor and outdoor seating. Classic diner items on the menu. My husband had the pastrami melt and I had the French dip. Both extra fresh and delicious. The breads were soft and the meat was seasoned perfectly. Staff was super friendly. The only critique I would give it is that it could be just a tad cleaner. We will be back! read more

This is a new favorite place of mine for breakfast since the demise of Metro Diner over on Vanderbilt. A smallish place comparatively but it has all the makings of a great little local spot. The menu is nicely varied and in my opinion is just right. I love the corned beef hash there and the pastrami sandwich which comes in two sizes - just right and WHOA BABY! While nothing can compare to the pastrami at my beloved Katz's or Carnegie Deli in NYC, this ain't bad! Why the four stars rather than five then? Service is always friendly but on two occasions a bit abrupt. Probably just too many tables for the server to handle comfortably. read more

Strip mall heaven. It's not often that I write reviews but for this place I am happy to. Modern little diner with plank floors and new tables and chairs. We stopped here for a breakfast burger after a day of too much sun and fun and were very happy with our experience! Great waitress, on top of everything, even with two big groups already ahead of us. Garden salad with tuna was excellent and super fresh. Burger was cooked perfectly, with a traditional toasted bun and crisp, golden fries. The open kitchen was absolutely spotless. A really great place for a sandwich, cup of soup or breakfast. Service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. We ate outside which was great, the inside had a nice casual ambiance. Was very impressed with this newer Diner. Place was packed and servers were overwhelmed, but they managed everything perfectly. I ordered the Irish Omelette with hash browns and eye toast. I called this Sunday morning and spoke to a gentleman I believe his name was Analdi (not sure how to spell it). I asked him how long the wait for 2 people was. He said there was no wait at the moment but after that would be 10-15 minutes. I asked if he could put our names down and he said they don't take reservations on Sunday. I let him know we were 1 mile away and on our way. We got there literally 30 seconds later and saw visible seats open and I let a waitress know I was a party of 2. First she asks me if I'm on the list so I say no then she tells me there was a 35 minute wait. I explain to her that I just spoke to someone on the phone and they said there was no wait. He told me even if that table was taken there would be a 10-15 wait. She said everyone came at the same time! It's been 30 seconds!!! Plus there was a table outside open and only one large party waiting. I was really annoyed because it was the first time being there and her attitude was that she didn't care at all!! Styled as a Chicago deli - without an actual deli counter - Bernie's will whip up a tall sandwich with chips for approx $8 to $12. I had the turkey Reuben. The bread was beautiful but soggy. The shaved turkey meat and generous portion of kraut was delicious, however. The walls have photo spread aerials of Chicago. Very cool. Service was slow. Hubs and I stopped for a late lunch. They were semi-busy, and service was a bit slow from beginning to end. However, my pastrami on rye was very good, as was hubs French dip. Chips were homemade and decent. Drinks were refilled. I liked it enough to go back if I am in the area - or want a pastrami sandwich - but wouldn't drive miles out of my way. Good enough for what it is - I would give it a 3.5. Update - one year later - service is still slow (but friendlier). The great advantage is they serve breakfast and lunch concurrently, which works great for hubs and I. (He likes a late breakfast, I prefer early lunch). Pastrami is still great, and hash browns are freshly shredded. After visiting other deli's in the area, this one comes out on top. 4.5 because of service. read more

Bernie' just opened for the evening meal and a huge Thanks to them for doing so!! I had the Ribs and they are the best in the area!! PLUS You had better come hungry! They give you a lot to eat for a very very very fair price!! They have a good wine selection!! This is soon going to be a crowded place one the Thundering Horde of Seniors finds out about it!!! 2nd visit and still great service, amazing food, and good prices! New favorite place!

In reading some reviews, I am not sure how a 5 star made it to the list. This is your basic breakfast spot. Nothing fancy, and nothing outstanding. The kitchen and staff seemed overwhelmed during our visit. We first had to wait about 7 minutes at the door to be greeted and seated . We sat down to a dirty dish rag wiped wet table. (Pet peeve of mine) I ordered a 3 egg omelette and the ingredients inside were above what I expected, the 3 egg omelette was barely 2 eggs. We also ordered a side of Chocolate chip pancakes and we were disappointed that it was just sprinkled with chips. We rally thought that they would included them in the batter like most places do. The service was slow and not very attentive. We did see the cook and server arguing several times. Our breakfast experience took 1:25 minutes in total. We were really ready to get out of there because that's a lot of time to spend just for a breakfast. The food was not bad but, everything else seemed to be a mess. Although I have read that this is a Chicago style diner, I could not see any sign of that there. There was wall paper on the walls with was a different city in each section and maybe one of those was Chicago. All in all, it was not a horrible expeience but it seemed to have significant logistic issues. read more
