Updating: Years have gone by (of course coming for yearly and mid yearly check ins for my daughter and I) and my appreciation and love for this office and it's entire staff hasn't wavered a bit! I just love them. The front desk are true gems! Always friendly, smiling and personable as well as helpful and kind. My daughter and I enjoy talking with them at our visits. They even help me decide which frames when I can't decide ;) The techs are sweet and patient esp when my daughter didn't want to cooperate her last eye exam visit they never got frustrated with her which makes it more calming and less stressful for us. These type of things don't go un-noticed to me. Dealing with patients on a daily as well. Ben is still my go to guy ! He knows my face structure and glasses style so well he always makes picking out new frames enjoyable for both my 6 yr old and myself. Dr Mac is outstanding and is the best. He really knows and cares for his patients. He remembers personal things going on in my life and it makes the whole experience carefree and feels like you're visiting family. He's so patient and loving with my daughter. Even when we moved further away I made the drive here because I enjoy this office and team so much. A visit costed more than 1200. I give 1 star not only because it was too expensive. The process was unclear especially when it comes to the fees. The staff never explained any of the cost. They did not even ask for my needs when adding options for me. Moreover, they did not give me test results and tracking number. I think they deliberately made the process unclear so that I would spend more. I do not mind to spend if it was fair. However, I do not think that is a honest way to business. I've been seeing Dr. Mac for at least 10 years, and he's the only one I trust to check my eyes. To give you guys some perspective, my vision is terrible. I'm at a -10.75 and has been for many years. Because of this, I need specific contacts and glasses made. I've tried switching optometries to Golden Vision Optometry in Milpitas a couple of years ago, but ended up switching back to Berryessa Optometry because Golden Visions' quality of service just doesn't compare. Berryessa Optometry is homey. Dr. Mac cares about his patients and remembers you as a person, not just you as a customer. He is incredibly good at what he does and I can trust that he will diagnose and fit me correctly. Berryessa Optometry is pricey, but your vision is important. There is no other person I trust with my vision more than Dr. Mac. I highly recommend you pay him a visit if you're looking for a new optometrist! read more

I've been going to Berryessa Optpmetry for over a decade. They have a huge staff to support their customers. Staff for front desk sport, eyeglass and contact fitting, and others for pre-exam screenings. I like how thorough they are here when you come in for your eye exam. This is not like Kaiser where it takes less than 10 minutes for your entire exam. I pretty much come here to see Dr. Mac. He's the only one who works on the weekends which is when it's easiest for me to come in. Dr. Mac is easy to talk to and explains everything clearly. He talked me into switching from monthly contacts to dailies which has helped with my dry eyes. Overall, I'd recommend coming here to see Dr. Mac and for the great customer service from the staff. Cons: Frames are on the pricier side here and parking in this old shopping plaza sucks. read more

Extremely pleased with my experience here! I came in a few weeks ago for new frames and lenses. I Hadn't had new glasses in years so wasn't sure what to expect. The lady was super nice and helpful, and I picked out the perfect pair. When i came to get the lenses I was unfortunately dealing with a super nasty flu bug so just picked up the lenses and left. When I got home I realized the frames fell straight off my face. After I got better I went in expecting a long wait, and hostility since I didn't have an initial fitting. I came on my lunch so didn't have much time. The receptionist told me that the doctors were busy and that I could wait, but I conveyed I was short on time and she got up and helped me herself! took about 5 minutes to fix and I was able to leave with perfect glasses. Dr. Mac has been my Optometrist since I've been with Berryessa Optometry. He's great cause he cares not only about your eye health but also about your overall health in general! The place followed the Covid rules and was well sanitized. During the eye exam though, found the doctor who also had the mask on, was too close, only 2 ft. (instead of 6 ft.) required, while discussing the tests with me in details. I understand the test equipment has to be close to me, but while not testing and discussing details with the patient at least, should preferably be 6 ft. far and that too, preferably with a possible shield. Just extra precautions, while California and Bay Area is presently roofing up with an unprecedented exposures. I felt uncomfortable in the small testing room, but his services and advise were great!! Back in early December I called to schedule an appointment at this location. I currently still have insurance I still haven't used up so I figure I would come in to get some contacts. Today is my appointment and I can say I had the worst experience ever at a eye doctor. So I called and informed them I was going to be arriving late. I was stuck in traffic and I am not type of person that is late to any appointment or work. I understand it's also my fault for not being on time. It just happens to be that my work is very unstaffed at the moment and they had me stay a bit longer than anticipated because something came up last minute. I spoke to the receptionist Carmen and I informed her about my situation and she told me there is no way they can help me out. She said she would have to reschedule my appointment until next year. I informed her that wouldn't work out because I am trying to use my insurance for the year. Keep in mind that I called early December to schedule an appointment only to be told last minute they can't me help me out because I will be arriving late. Dr. Mac is my doctor and I simply can't believe They couldn't help me out at all. Keep in mind that I spent close to 800-1000 cash out of my pocket last year here. I had to buy special glasses and contacts with insurance. I wasn't surprised I had to spend that much as I don't have the best vision. All in all, I simply can't believe they couldn't help me out knowing it's the last couple days for using my insurance for the year. I'll not be coming back here all because of Carmen. Carmen just ruined the amazing relationship I had with this business. I work in customer service and I can tell you first hand how bad of a experience I had. I have been Dr.Macs' patient for many, many years since 2011. My eyes have changed very much over the past 8 years. I would never think about going to any other eye doctor! I have been a long client or patient with Berryessa Optometry. Each time I go for my appt or for my family, service is always top notch. The staff is very professional. The place is super cleaned. Dr. Mac is awesome! He is very detail and explain any issues you may have. This time I came in for my long time coming visit for reading glasses. He recommended me 7 years ago for LASIK. I would never thought I would have gone for it without his knowledge. I explained to him since then my eyes needs help in the near sightedness. I wanted to see if I can have gasses that will help with reading and monitor without over working my eyes. He recommended some glasses for me that will have my concern. My family and I did not get our exam done here, but we got our glasses here. All I can they are amazing. They explained all of our options and pricing for everything. They were also so kind to my daughter. If you don't know my daughter is extremely shy. unless you see her on a daily basis, she wont speak to you (she will say hi and be polite but having a full conversation wont happen) They were so kind took their time with us. Gave us the run down on everything and telling us what our insurance pay and our saving. it was just amazing on what we experience at a different facility. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE I'm not typically one to write reviews unless the service was absolutely fabulous or extremely terrible and Berryessa Optometry was phenomenal. First off when I arrived I had to knock so that they could unlock the door. I think having their door locked is so smart because it makes you feel more comfortable knowing that not just any random person without an appointment is getting let in, thus less of a chance of covid being spread. Then they took my temperature to make sure I didn't have a fever and that I was in healthy condition to come in. I waited about a minute or two before they started to examine me which was great because I don't like wasting time. The receptionists Lisa and Carmen greeted me and were extremely friendly. Welcoming me in with warm smiles and kindness. I was given off to a staff member named Justin, he did pretesting on me and was kind as well making sure I felt comfortable the entire time. After this I went into and examination room and met with the optometrist Dr. Mac. He himself deserves a review independently for good reasons! He felt like a good friend I could vent to. He asked questions while taking my exam which eventually led to me talking about some of my hopes and dreams for the future and he was nothing but supportive and rooting for me which made my overall experience with him so solace in dark times of this pandemic. Of course he as well explained my vision and enlightened me on how certain illnesses can cause poor vision etc. Shortly after I was handed off to another staff member named Alejandra who let me try all the frames I wanted. She was very helpful in helping me pic frames that would suit my face shape. As well as the fact that she was extremely patient with me even though I tried many on and she would have to clean all of the frames afterwards. She gave me much insight on all of the frames and which were affordable and durable. She actually recommended I try on the frames that I actually ended of purchasing, so thanks to her I actually liked how the glasses looked on me. After we choose the frame she sat down and went over the cost with me and said they would take about two weeks to come in. The glasses came earlier than expected so they called me as soon as they arrived and I was actually able to make an appointment and pick them up the next day. The second time I visited I actually got to meet the office manager Steven. He was very amiable and actually made a joke that made my day, great customer service! I could tell that if I had any issues he would be more than happy to help me out without a problem. 10/10 I would recommend everyone to come to Berryessa Optometry. Every visit has been great. Dr. Mac and the staff are amazing. They are friendly and walk me through each step of my annual exam every time. When it came to picking new frames, it was a breeze and also very helpful to take suggestions from an expert. Dr. Mac is very detailed and made sure I understood what the current state of my eyes was. They have a new imaging machine that is pretty cool and shows the layers of your eye. This helps determine your risk for Macular degeneration and I was pleased to find out I am low risk! Very professional. Happy to be a client here. read more

This was the worst eye exam I've ever had. I needed to do a basic eye exam and a comprehensive eye exam, plus, if there was time, I would order some contact lenses. For the basic exam, one of these exam equipment was out of work, could not take pictures of my eyes. Then I wanted do the comprehensive eye exam, the doctor only tested my visions and recommended frame glasses, which I wasn't planing to have. He spent lots of time trying to find the the right degrees which was good, but my eyes had other problems, he only rechecked when I told him. After finishing this part, I mentioned the dilated pupils, I needed to get it done today, he said you should go and get your frames first, after that I will do it for you. I really didn't like these frames and my purpose here was for eye exams. I told the lady I needed eye exams and would be later for the frame. She didn't have a happy face on her. Told me already late, doctor had other appointments, no time, and dilated pupils needed time, you can reschedule and came back when you picked up for frames. I said no. I told her I needed eye exams, she said yes, they did check that. She wanted me to make another appointment. I said no. They charged me a $25 copay for this all sh***. I told the doctor, my eye got red, itching at the beginning, but he didn't touch that part for the whole process. He only cares about asking me to have a pairs of glasses and order contact lens. I told him I will not order contact lens here, because I still have lots of them at home. He was not only unhappy, he said you told me these were your last pairs! who would be that stupid to order contact lens when only one pairs left. During the process, the doctor touched my arms all the time, when he was trying to talk to me. Be aware of that! The doctor even didn't come up with a conclusion for the exams, I thought because that doesn't count as an exam. He said "your eyes are ok." Really ridiculous! So, $25 gone and I left with angry. It did waste my time and money. Last time I went to Walmart, the doctor there did a super great job for a comprehensive exam and contact lenses exam, and all the stuff were very thoughtful, spending time with me, giving good suggestion, at a very reasonable price without insurance. After all done, they gave me some eye drops and contact lens cases and solutions for free. read more

My husband and children were former patients of Berryessa Optometry but due to a change in insurance wee unfortunately won't be returning for a little while! They really care about each patient and ensure that you're receiving the best product. My sons have "lazy eyes" and instead of jumping to referring us to a specialist for surgery, they insisted we stick with glasses and patching to solve the problem, which it did! I have been a patient for at least 14 years and if not for Dr. Mac I probably would not come back anymore. So this review is for the customer service not for the eye care I receive. The receptionists does not give you a welcoming care either on the phone or in person. For the first time, I lost one of my lenses and called it in. The response I got was so lacking in empathy that I am flabbergasted! The immediate response was to blame me for losing it. I was told that I have to buy / replace both lenses. And I have to pay 600 ++ and that's with a 20 % discount! This eyeglass is just 5 months old. I pointed that out, but she did not care. If I have to pay this much, I would expect that the eyeglasses will last with regular use at least 6 months. In fact, in the last 5 months, I did not use this 100%. For the most part I only use this pair at work 8 hours daily 5 days a week. Weekends and travel, I use my 6 year old pair of eyeglass. read more

First of all, I'm giving this review FIVE stars for Dr Lim only. Why? I've been with Dr Lim even before my boys weren't born yet, and now, he's even my 15 yrs old eye doctor too. He is very knowledgeable, detailed and thorough when it comes to examining my eyes and I haven't had any issues til then. I haven't been back to him for few years since my medical insurance has change. Now, my medical insurance is back to better so I came back to him again and he's still the same great eye doctor as the first time i met him. And why ONE star, first off, the gentleman who helped my son and I getting our prescription glasses and my MauiJim sunglasses were very helpful. He guided me on what's better for my face as well as to my son. I gave him 4 stars for helping us out professionally. The other FOUR missing stars are for the women who work at the front desk especially the person Carmen. The day I came by to pick up my son's eyeglasses, contact lenses and my sunglasses, I walked in and being unacknowledged while Carmen and the other girl were talking in front of me for long seconds of time. She then, asked me what I need, I said, I'm going to pick up my son's eyeglasses and my non prescription sunglasses. She told me to sit down and I said, it's just sunglasses i don't need to sit down and she gave me that nasty look. The third time I came back to pick up my temporary frame prescription eyeglasses, Carmen was there again doing the same thing talking with her other colleagues and then again, i wasn't being acknowledge and no welcome greetings at all. I told her that I'm here to pick up my eyeglasses. She went to get it and just hand it to me. This time, she didn't tell me to sit down. I asked her " Don't I need to sit down make sure the frame fits well?"...She went sassy and bitchy on me Telling me that the last time i came i don't want to sit down yet I told her that this is a prescription glasses and not a sunglasses that doesn't need fitting. I was very disappointed the way CARMEN treated me like that. Eventhough this is just temporary frame, I still need to sit down to get fit, I went ahead to find a mirror to check my glasses...Carmen didn't even helped me like she just told me to go ahead try it on and find your way to look in the mirror. I was treated like I am a trash to her. I spent $1762.41 in one day at this location but all i get was a bitchy attitude from Dr Lim's front desk people. This is why I gave this location one star only and this one star are for Dr Lim's employees.... I have been working with customer service for long time and working with my clientele are my very most important persons to assist with compassion, empathy and patience and most importantly, i treated them they are a family or friends.... BUT the employees here at Berryessa Optometry are by far the worst customer service I have ever experience and they don't belong in any customer service job especially this person name CARMEN. I will come back to Dr Lim but purchasing contact lenses and prescription will be a no no to me anymore. I'll get my prescription from Dr Lim but I will purchase my lenses some place else. I'm still coming back for the frame I actually ordered. Don't know when will it arrive. For now, I'm not done with this review. I apologized Dr Lim for giving your place 1 star.
