This is the ceviche with shrimp! Tastes super good and I recommend it with tortilla chips

The front of the restaurant looks super presentable and the food tastes super good! I got the shrimp ceviche and I totally recommend it with tortilla chips! I also got their horchata! It tastes like regular horchata but their other drinks taste like grey water and their toilet wont flush! Other than that, it was a good experience!

This restaurant was listed at the New Times as one of the BEST Mexican Restaurants for seafood so I wanted to try it. They offer many of your Mexican favorites, breakfast, plus ceviche, whole fish and marlin tacos. The salsas and tortillas are made in house. Prices are low and I found the portions to be very large. This is a family owned business and they are bilingual and are friendly and welcoming. It's not a fancy place but everything looked clean and new. We started out with some tacos. The tortillas were excellent. Even better than tortillas I ate in Mexico. The Cabeza Taco Meat was tender and developed with flavors and was great! The Marlin Tacos were grilled very nicely and were packed with lots of chopped marlin. The fish was mild and sweet. We shared a Chile Relleno Plate and Chicken Enchiladas. The Chile Relleno was the BIGGEST one I ever came across and had a very light batter and a delicious tomato sauce on it. Chicken Enchiladas were packed with moist flavorful chicken and were covered in delicious flavorful sauces. My husband said the rice and beans were very good. This is one of the very few restaurants in Metro Phoenix that serves Marlin. This is a very good restaurant were everything is house made and delicious. Prices are low and portions are large.

I've been here twice and the food has not very flavorful, and the proportions were small for the cost.

Authentic Mexican seafood, delicious. But, you better practice your Spanish before visiting Berta's.

Excellent Carne Asada burro and good service. They even had dried chili pequins and lime to make it even better.

Say hello to your new favorite downtown restaurant! Wow, where to begin?…read more Service was amazing - they even printed out a small card with our reservation name on it which was presented on our table. Such a cute touch and very thoughtful. Our waitress was super knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The spot is small and chic. It's very intimate dining so you'll be sitting close to the table next to you. Luckily, it's a quiet and calm space, so no need to worry about noise. The food was incredible. The salmon crudo was possibly the best crudo I have ever had in my entire life. So fresh and the flavors were balanced to perfection. The risotto changed my life... it was so delicious I couldn't even believe it. The only thing I would recommend skipping was the octopus tostada - not my favorite and a little fishy for my liking. Personal preference of course! The duck tasted great and was beautifully presented, but it wasn't my favorite. Again, I'm not a huge meat eater so take my advice on this one with a grain of salt. Overall an extremely romantic and special meal.

To start, the menu is a bit puzzling. It's kind of like a handful of Asian-inspired dishes, a handful of Mexican/South American, and a handful of French or New American. But there's not enough of each to chart a course through one type of cuisine. So, basically you're gonna have a cultural melange meal. Hamachi crudo was really good and fairly unique. The halibut was excellently prepared but not particularly innovative in any way I could tell. Zucchini had goat cheese, which wasn't immediately clear from the description, so I didn't enjoy the rude surprise I got when I took my first bite, and didn't eat anymore, as I really despise the stuff. So that was a waste. Not a dig on the dish, just a personal thing I wish I had more notice of. There were other issues though. The wine list was exceptionally small, They were out of the bread, which is supposedly a must-try. And then we were going to get the steak but the folks next to us advised against it, showing their cut that had zero fat. They said it was leather. On that point, the tables are SUPER CLOSE. Like, a couple inches apart. You hear everything and almost can't avoid getting entwined into others' conversation. We liked the people we were next to, but be aware that it's an unintentionally awkward communal experience that's not well-suited to a date night. The service was pretty good, they put out a nice printed greeting with the reservation name, and give you a sparkling wine toast. But considering the price and overall experience we had, I'd pass and not come back.

The service was okay, but the staff lacked friendliness and didn't seem very welcoming. As for the food, some dishes were good while others were disappointing. Overall, the flavor was lacking for me, and many of the dishes just didn't stand out. Another issue we ran into was the parking situation. The parking lot is very small, and we had to park outside of it, which was inconvenient for a large group. Overall, my experience was not the best, and I wouldn't be coming back.

Even without reservations we were seated immediately. Water and menus were on the table in the blink of an eye. Our server, Josephina, was quick to take both drink and appetizer orders. I ordered some bread, not immediately realizing the difference, and should have ordered the focaccia. The martini that my wife ordered was, in her words, perfect. The Caesar Salad was the best I've had in quite a while. Just incredibly fresh greens, great dressing, grated cheese, and tasty croutons. I could have made a meal just from that. My wife ordered the Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli and I had the Lasagna Bolognese. Neither is an unusually elegant dish but both were prepared perfectly. The house Chianti was so enjoyable that we ordered a bottle and enjoyed it throughout the meal. To finish off the experience we had an order of cannolis and they were delicious. Thanks to Josephina for such a great evening and we will be back to try the "Bottle & Bruschetta" they feature on Mondays and Tuesdays.

I refused to pay for the seafood portion, and they actually called the police on me. I have never been treated so badly by a restaurant, especially when the food quality was that poor. So beware: if the food quality is bad and you feel it's unfair to pay for it, they will threaten you with the police -- who clearly have more important things to deal with than responding to a restaurant's food‑quality complaint.
