Go there fairly often; love the Tapas - you can't go wrong there. We usually eat at the bar where the bartenders are very friendly and attentive. We've sat at a table several times and our experience has not been the same. Food, yes always good, but service at the tables is more impersonal. Beso once again saved the night. After watching the proprietor of Enoteca Maria yell at one of his waitstaff my wife and I hightailed it over to Beso. Coincidently enough Joe from Enoteca was the person that first turned us on to Beso. Came to Beso for the first time tonight celebrating my wedding anniversary. I'll start by saying I absolutely loved the ambiance of the restaurant, how it's set up, decorated and it's layout. Definitely a great spot in terms of this. When we arrived we were greeted almost immediately and were seated. The wait staff and service (I believe the waiters name was Joe) was excellent. Quality service all around Now for the food, which for me, is what it is all about when it comes restaurants. We started out with the fresh guacamole and chips. You can tell it was fresh and made to order. The guacamole tasted and looked fresh. The chips were warm as well. Definitely a great start to the meal. For our entree, I ordered the Samba which was a chicken breast stuffed with cobrales cheese, spinach and chorizo with saffron rice on the side. It was cooked in a sherry sauce which was extremely flavorful. Overall, I would highly recommend this dish. Once again, fresh, flavorful and filling. My wife had the seafood avocado, which was a variety of seafood based in an avocado cream sauce served over penne. I do not eat seafood, so I did not sample this other than tasting the sauce (which was excellent). However, my wife raved about this, saying it was one of the better meals at a restaurant she's ever had. Overall, a great experience and after hearing and reading so many great reviews, I am happy to have gone. We will be back after such a great time and also want to go to Bayou and Blue after having such a positive experience at Beso. read more

Last night I came in with a party of 5 people and was incredibly disappointed. For starters the heat was not on and it was one of the coldest nights of the winter. My mother sat there with her coat on. The workers claimed they didn't know how to operate the system, finally about a half hour after arriving the heat went on. The sangria also took awhile to come out and the place was not busy. We asked our waiter if the 5 of us could share 3 appetizers and when they came out we had to order another round it was nowhere near enough. We ordered coconut shrimp, calamari, and chips and guacamole. They were all mediocre the guacamole the easiest to make was ironically tasteless. All of our entrees were nothing to brag about either. The paella especially was disappointing. The best part of my meal was dessert, I ordered a caramel and banana cheesecake. Honestly, I am embarrassed for bringing family friends here and have had heard many great reviews. My experience was definitely lacking. read more

However, I must say that I can't forget the taste of their guacamole with fried crisps, and mouth watering lamb chops. I like the food, but the place is far too noisy. I have been to Beso many times. Each time the food was very good. I especially enjoy the Bistec cubano. Unfortunately, the last two times that I have been there with friends the noise level in the restaurant was so high that we could not carry on a conversation. This completely ruined the experience. I suggest that they beef up the sound proofing to improve the acoustics in the restaurant. If not, I doubt that I will continue to go there. read more

Went here last night.. it was a Thursday, just me and a friend of mine. We arrived around 8p.m. with no reservation. The host was very sweet, he suggested we wait at the bar and have a cocktail or start off with an appetizer. We ordered drinks and at that point the host came back to tell us not to bother ordering an app because our table was just about ready. I thought that was nice of him. We sat down and the place is really cute. it's very small but it's quaint. The music was good (Hector Lavoe- a fav!). The waitress came over and was very nice and we started looking over the menu. We ordered the following: Relleno de Gambas DELICIOUS!!! A MUST-TRY! The sauce didn't taste anything like mango, it was creamy, but it was very very good, it was one of our favorites. Enchiladas - YUMM! These were filled with Lobster and they were baked to perfection. A bit heavy but not over the top. I highly recommend it. Maduro - OK THIS WAS AMAZEBALLS. We couldn't stop eating it. It was an entire plantain with the skin on, nice and moist and soft to the touch, and the shredded chicken was just pouring out of it. Seriously divine. Pollo Montadito - 3 small portions of chicken in a delicious mushroom sauce. It was more on the safe side but very tasty nonetheless. Clams - A nice portion of little neck clams in a very tasty light broth. Risotto - We did NOT like the flavor of this at all. It was like feet. We asked to replace it with Rice and Beans. The waitress was very kind and quickly brought out our new choice and that was also a fail. The flavor was of re-fried beans and something that just tasted off. Save the 5.00 and put it towards another amazing choice from the tapas menu. For dessert we had the whipped cream with the oreo crumbles topped with fresh fruit. It was good, nothing special. I wish we would have ordered something a bit more edgy as I would like to have seen what they offered but my friend wanted to try it and I wasn't going to deny a pregnant woman of her dessert. It was a very nice experience. We did not feel rushed, the price was just right (66.00 for all the food I mentioned above). We left feeling full and very happy. I would love to go back. I didn't give it 5 stars because the side dishes and dessert need work, but I will be back and I will be ordering from the Tapas menu again. You won't be dissapointed if you do the same! read more

I've eaten here twice. The servers were friendly and attentive. Entrées were delicious. Seafood Avocado was very good. I got broccoli rabe as a side and wasn't crazy about it. Taste a little burnt, and both times I wasn't impressed with the dessert, but I would go back and just stick to tapas and the entrée. read more

So we heard from others that this place was a must-go to place and they were right. On a sunday night, the atmosphere was welcoming and the service did a great job they checked on us at the right times and were really knowledgeable when it came to the menu. My girlfriend and I had a great experience. The mango sangria, tapas, and the seafood was on point. We can't make to come back with our family. Just because one person says they had a not so great experience doesn't really define the service. If the place is packed out, or their are minor complications you can't really base your thoughts on one experience. If you like the food and the atmosphere why wouldnt you give it another try read more

Over the years I've gone to Beso a number of times. Each time, I enter and am so impressed with the ambiance and vibe, I have high hopes. The menu listings always look good and creative... but the actual food has never been anything but a uninspired disappointment. I so wish it was better - on paper everything looks great, and the location walking distance to the ferry is great when trying to entice people to visit you in SI, but... meh. Between the ambiance, the choices of Sangria, and the food this is hands down one of my favorite places. I love to start with Sangria and fresh guacamole and home made chips. I love trying different entree dishes (the paella is delicious) but the tapas menu is by far my favorite when i want to eat a bit lighter (who am i kidding, i usually wind up ordering just about every one on the menu). Be prepared to wait for seating if you are a party under 5. But don't get discouraged because it's worth the wait and you can start out at the bar with a drink and something to eat and just relax. read more

It was an impromptu decision to go to Beso on a Tuesday evening. We were seated right away and the wait staff was super nice as well as helpful. I went to Beso for a friend's birthday dinner last month. The place gets very packed, as it is quite small. The food is pretty outstanding, I recommend the duck breast with the spinach fettucine, it was so tender and seasoned perfectly. So i have a hard time reviewing this restaurant. The food itself is absolutely amazing, and the drinks (sangria) just the same. Although it takes a lot to fill up on, the food portions are quite small, even for tapas, so definitely dont underestimate what you order! Excellent tapas. Great portions and prices to try out several delicious dishes. We shared 4 tapas plates and a side dish between two people - perfect amount of food with just enough room to share an absolutely amazing slide of chocolate mudslide cake for dessert. They have a great selection of sangria too - white peach and red pomegranate and so much more. The place was mostly empty mid-day on a weekday and the waitress was very attentive without hovering or making us uncomfortable. I'd love to come back again. read more

Love this place! Drinks are incredible, food is great, ambiance is sexy and the staff is more than exceptional. If it's your first time going I wouldn't suggest a Friday or Saturday after 7 because you'll have to wait a while for a table unless you're with a party of five or six otherwise you'll be waiting at the bar and that can get annoying fast. Come here early or really late (about an hour before the kitchen closes) to really enjoy the food. If you're coming for drinks and the ambiance then you'll enjoy the bar area. This restaurant is definitely a first date or romantic date place you want to bring a woman to. *Sometimes parking is an issue but drive up Stuyvesant Place there should be a spot or two. read more

Best restaurant on Staten Island! Nothing but good things to say about the place. The only drawbacks to this place are parking is a real pain, they don't have a lot and street parking is limited because of all the courthouses surrounding the place.
