Horrible! After my last review I came here 3 times and each time things deteriorated but last night was the end for me. Will never come back here. One waitress for the entire floor, I had to go myself to the bar with our cups to get more drinks because the waitress would never come back to the table. The food was DISGUSTING! The tapas are now served all in one platter or should I say thrown in a platter. Everything tasted awful and uneatable. My son's steak had so much fat and nerves that he hardly could get a clean piece of meat. My steak fajitas came out in a cold skillet and again, tons and tons of fat in the meat. Clearly these guys are cutting corners and getting cheap stuff to make more money. Also, I CANNOT believe it's the same cook they had a year or two ago. My friend Terry and I had lunch today at Beso on Bay Street in Staten Island, NY. Terry wanted me to experience their Spanish cuisine because she loves Beso so much. We each had their tasty red Sangria, mango and arugula salad, their signature Beso Paella and their scrumptious fig tart. I was thoroughly enamored by how delicious everything was. I've been to Beso a couple of times and I've had a great time every time I've been here. This last time we sat on the terrace level (so cute for the outdoor/indoor space). Enjoyed some tapas for two and drinks. The music was fun (we danced and sang in our seats as we ate) and the food was delectable. I can't wait to go back and nosh on the lamb chops we had. Solid tapas spot! We stopped by before heading on the ferry back into Manhattan, and this was the perfectly sized meal. We ordered the lobster enchiladas (they only had shrimp), and chicken paella. The enchiladas were very saucy and flavorful, but the lighter flavor of the paella was a good contrast. The chicken in the paella was quite tough however. I've been going to Beso since they opened years ago, and it's been a favorite ever since. They relocated, and it's always great to see some of the familiar faces from the original spot. I stopped in today for lunch with my 9-year-old after school, and as always, we received a warm welcome and were seated right away. I usually make a reservation (which I recommend), but walk-ins are welcome too. I opted for their prix fixe menu, available Monday through Thursday, and it is such a great deal! We rode the ferry over to Staten Island and Beso was one of the few restaurants nearby. We came on a Saturday evening, and we were able to be seated right away without reservations. They asked us if we wanted to be seated indoors or outdoors. We opted for the outdoor seating, which was on the third floor of the restaurant. There were a few tables up there, along with a nice waiting area. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful with lots of seating areas. We got some margaritas to start. These were decent, and I was looking forward to the fruit flavors. They tasted a little artificial, but the blended texture was good. We also got a watermelon salad, plantain, and sea bass. The food was very unique and different from what I would have at home. Everything was very flavorful, and I would love to come back to try other things in their menu! Beso is my absolute favorite establishment. Love brunch here on Sundays. 90 min all you can drink Sangria for $20!!! What????!!!! The food is absolutely tasty n delicious. My favorite is their skirt steak. Yummmm. Also their empanadas and quesadillas are great. I miss John, he was an awesome bartender. Vinny is an excellent bartender and will always keep your drinks coming. You can sit indoors or weather permitting there's an outdoor rooftop area. We've been coming to Besos for years, so writing this review is honestly disappointing. We came with a party of six and ordered 18 tapas, fully expecting another great meal. Instead, we spent most of the night wondering if we accidentally walked into a completely different restaurant. First, the food took forever to come out. Then, when it finally arrived, we couldn't even hear each other talk because the music was so loud it felt like we were eating in the middle of a nightclub instead of a restaurant. Now for the food... Our absolute favorite dish has always been the octopus with potatoes. We usually order five because it's that good. This time? It was so overcooked and disappointing that we could barely eat it. That alone should tell you how bad the night was. The calamari was rubbery and honestly one of the worst we've had. Out of 18 tapas, there were maybe five we actually enjoyed. The rest ranged from forgettable to "who ordered this and why are we still trying to finish it?" To make matters worse, this wasn't a cheap meal. Spending that kind of money for food that left six people disappointed is incredibly frustrating. We've recommended Besos to friends and family for years because it used to be one of our favorite spots. Unfortunately, this visit completely changed our opinion. If this had been our first experience, we never would have come back. We left hungry, disappointed, and wondering if the chef was on vacation... or if we accidentally showed up on the restaurant's "practice night." I'll keep it brief, visited yesterday- I am a Spaniard. I don't wanna give one star but the foods bad - This is not Spanish food, nor is it good Hispanic food. Food is below average way below. Anyone who likes good food- especially Spaniard food this is NOT your place. All the seafood is low quality frozen, overly salted. This not Spanish food. Drinks are good , staff was great- cannot say enough good things about them- place is very nice, neighborhood is not the best, prices are reasonable. Portions were reasonable sized for the price. If you go - go for drinks and like a burger that's it. If they place would like to improve- get a chef and better quality seafood and food in general however prices would go up- I would gladly pay more for better more quality food. I hope they improve. This is a cute place with a decent amount of tables and a bar area. Parking on the street was hard to find. There is a fall menu but they didn't print it out, you have to go online. They have two single bathrooms and one was out of order for most of the night so I had to wait for like 20 min to use the bathroom. Food was very good, most of what we ordered i liked a lot. In general prices a little bit more expensive than I thought they should be. Also our second round of drinks took 35 minutes to get to us. Apparently the bartender was on a break. Which is fine, they should take breaks but I'm surprised there was no one else that can make the drinks when the bartender is on a break at peak time on a Friday night. We were 4 people, ordered 6 tapas, one entree and two desserts to share and 2 rounds of drinks. It all came out to about 150 a couple. My favorite was the chorizo tapas. It was warm chorizo with cheese and sauce served hot. Very good. We got a cheese plate too but the chorizo on that plate was soft and powdery textured and cold. I also didn't like the cheese on that plate or the other meats. But I did like the big green grapes. The meatballs on the special menu were very good, soft and flavorful. The chicken empanadas were my favorite. Normal sized empanada, about $4.50 each. Super crispy and flavorful. Moist and delicious. Some pieces of the chicken were chewy but most were really good. The short rib entree was cooked perfectly. Super soft and tender. A bit too salty. Piled high, good portion and also a big serving of pasta with it. Drinks were standout. I like the salted caramel espresso martini the best. So smooth and rich in flavor. Really tasted like salted caramel. Also the pumpkin spice martini was delicious. It was light and smooth and creamy all at the same time, and the fall spices were not over powering. For the salted caramel espresso martini when we ordered the second round we noticed the chunk of caramel garnish was left off. They said they ran out but later brought us a couple of pieces. The cannoli dip dessert was super big and great to share. The dip wasn't too sweet but it was a bit too whipped for me and lacked a rich marscapone cheese flavor which I usually expect from cannoli cream. We left stuffed! I don't know if I would come back again. But I definitely enjoyed our double date night! read more

New Year's Eve celebration was awful! On New Year's Eve, our group of six went to Besos based on what was clearly a set menu advertised. What we received instead was a complete bait-and-switch. The menu advertised twin lobster and two pork chops. When the food arrived, it was one lobster and one pork chop. When we questioned it, we were told the menu had "changed." That change was never communicated before ordering or seating. That is deceptive, plain and simple. Despite paying $150 per person for an open bar and food, I was also told I could only order sangria or mojitos--even though other drinks were listed. Only after we complained was I finally allowed to order what was advertised. At that point, the damage was already done. This is false advertising and unacceptable business practice. You do not get to lure customers in with one menu and then quietly downgrade it once they are seated and have paid. That responsibility falls entirely on Besos' ownership and management. I will never return and will not recommend this establishment to anyone. The only thing Besos got right was the music. Everything else was a rip-off. Shame on this restaurant for misleading customers on a night meant to celebrate. read more

I came here and got the El Matador, the service was frankly amazing, the staff was very attentive to me and my group, the vibes here are off the charts and the establishment is absolutely beautiful. We sat in the backroom which was decorated for Christmas and has a high ceiling and it was so nice. The food was very good I would say although I do think I was not crazy about the sandwich I got, I did love the appetizers however of the guacamole, fried goat cheese and the calamari. I visited on a Saturday night. Despite its location, the Restaurant was full. Beso claims to serve "Spanish food". I send time in Spain yearly. Spain had nothing to do with this food! Immediately we noticed how loud the music was. The four of us couldn't hear each other. We made the mistake of ordering a pitcher of sangria. It was awful! It didn't have fruit, was mostly ice and was completely flavorless. When the waiter brought glasses to the table 10 minutes after setting it down, he informed us that they had run out of oranges so one of the glasses had lemon on the rim. They set down one small cold roll that they had sliced into tiny pieces with and olive oil and Black pepper mix on the side. After the guacamole appetizer Our food came out quickly. Three of us order the Chicken Fernando with pasta. The portion was plentiful but the taste was lousy. Now for the dessert. They did not have a decaf coffee offering. They only had decaf expresso. We ordered 2 deserts. We find better in Costco. We asked for forks and were told they didnt have any clean. We were given spoons! I couldnt wait to get out of this dump! What I got was blackened chicken, cabbage coleslaw dripping in mayo (im allergic to mayo) and no mango salsa whatsoever. First time eating here. Loved the decor. Clean, comfortable and inviting. Service was beyond outstanding. Every person who came to our table from the person who filled our water glasses to the manager (who came by to check if everything was up to our expectations), was polite and friendly. Our waiter was particularly awesome. They came back to the table to tell my wife something she ordered might not be what she expected, which they were right. Wife ordered avocado salad instead, which was light, fresh and delicious. I got the chorizo tapas. Best I've ever had. Wife's entree was shrimp in pasta with a crab cake. She said it was amazing. I ordered the beef medallions on a bed of mashed with mushroom gravy. We were both too full to consider dessert but thought it can't hurt to look. The steak with blue cheese was nice, the blue cheese was mild the steak a nice cut. The octopus was served with papa bravas... the trade was very good, although the octopus was tough to cut.. The sangria was also good, but very light, and had no fruit in it. The tapas selection was kind of limited, but maybe that's because I'm allergic to shellfish. We scarfed down the food too quickly. Not an enjoyable way to eat. We left more than enough time to have a leisurely dinner but that didn't happen. The food was amazing.
