I came into this place early, about 10:45 on a Wednesday. I wanted to get a big plate that I could eat off of twice. I did opt for the three meat combo with tri tip, hot link, and chicken. Sides chosen were macaroni salad and potato salad. The big plate also came with some really good bread and chili beans. So the hot link had no heat, it seemed like some type of sausage, but I did eat it, as it was ok. The chicken was decent, and it was eaten as well. But the gray tri tip that had NO MOISTURE was not eaten. There is no way that beef was fresh, I do not think you could dry it out like that only cooking it once. Anyhow it looked sad and expensive in the trashcan at my room. Was not fit to eat. The beans were good and the two salads were very good, just tiny servings. The food was also accompanied by some excellent sauce. I may have caught this place at a bad time. But the food was almost $30, and it was not worth it. read more

I went to Best BBQ for the Yelp Elite event tonight. They definitely had a crowd! Employees were very nice and our order came out in a timely manner... considering the crowd. They have a good flow of people! The food was really good! Potato salad, sweet bbq beans, and the tri-tip was my favorite. The meat wasn't dry, it was cooked perfectly... the sauce was great, the whole meal had a very " family bbq out in the backyard" taste and vibe to it. The only complaints I have is the chicken breast. It is thin cut. so it was very thin. Too thin. It was getting pretty overwhelming with all the noise, plus they had a big screen tv on with its volume up. Nobody could hear it - due to the large crowd... its a very small area. So it just added to the noise level. It was so loud that we decided to get our food to go. It's clear they are very popular in Santa Paula, and for a business that's a very good thing!! Employees are friendly and kind. Unfortunately, I find their BBQ dry, unflavorful, and not that good. I needed a lot of sauce to mask the inadequacies of the meats. That's a primary indication that the BBQ isn't that good. Pork ribs were so dry and tough. Baked beans was soupy, lots of liquid. Seemed like a bean soup to me. Tender beans, and flavor was good. Bread was dry, dry, dry. Better if they gave some butter. Macaroni salad tasted homemade, but not the potato salad. Finally, the BBQ sauce. Too much vinegar, sour, but not tangy. Seemed like a poor imitation of a South Carolina kind of BBQ sauce. I'm disappointed and will probably never return. read more

The service was pleasant and there was an issue with our order and they fixed it right away, shows how ethical and honest they are. Hidden in plain sight, why have I not come here sooner. We took a drive to Santa Paula to try this place out. It was easy to find right off the freeway however please note parking was tight. They do have a tiny parking lot. I was very impressed at the amount of people I saw going in and out. Cars coming and going. I knew this was going to be a great place to eat. The menu is straight forward, when you walk up you smell the delicious bbq smoke. I was greeted by a nice young lady and man. It's very quaint inside and there is a small outside seating area. When I got my food I had to try everything. I ordered tri tip, chicken, hot links, ribs and both beans. I had mild sauce and half and half sauce. Both sauces were fantastic but the half and half one was kinda hot for me. The food, well the tri tip was fabulous I couldn't get enough, very well seasoned, tender & fresh off the grill as you can sit and watch the person cooking over the bbq. Everything was really fresh. The chicken was moist and tender, the beef rib had good flavor however it was pretty tough and not too meaty. I really enjoyed the baked beans but you can't go wrong with either one. I read most all the reviews before going to 'best.'  The negative reviews seemed to be about the service , especially with takeout and delivery functions.  The reviews about the food were all very positive. Their sauce was excellent, I tried both regular and hot. I ordered the pork ribs and my companion had a 'regular bowl' w/chicken.  We went there at lunch time, so dinner servings may be different. Note: I'm writing during pandemic times, everything is just weird right now so keep that in mind.  I really like small locally owned businesses, especially places serving up food! I don't understand the bowl idea here.  The Bowl with chicken was OK, nothing really "Q" about it except the sauce, which again, was very good. As for the ribs.  No comment.  Again, dinner servings may be different. When I go for BBQ it's usually pork ribs or brisket for me.  I expect ribs to be tender, near to or 'fall off the bone.'  I like to see a bit of 'smoke ring.'  A bit of dry rub seasoning or a good mop finish, or both.  Good ribs can be done many different ways. I tried both of their bean choices, chili and bbq.  I ate them. As for the service, it was lunch busy but food came quickly enough, the outside tables clean.  The guy taking the orders was in 'we're busy move it along' mode which is fine, I can appreciate it and if they're busy that's a good sign. Next time I find myself in Santa Paula I'm going to pick up some of their sauce and fire up my Treager. I may give their Tri-Tip sandwich a try too. This review is 2 months overdue. I work in Moorpark which doesn't have that much food choices. It's got your typical fast food joints and a few gems, but not a ton of spots that really stand out. A now ex coworker lives in Santa Paula and suggested we try out his favorite bbq joint. There's a core group of us that order in every payday Friday. We decided to take his suggestion and tried this place. He basically got food for the office the night before and kept everything refrigerated. Majority of the folks got the chicken & tri tip combo which I was told is the fan favorite. It was a hit. The meat was perfectly cooked. I couldn't even really say if it would've been better had we eaten it the night before. There was no difference with the quality. Pure deliciousness. My combo order came with the meats as well as rice and veggies. Just the right amount of everything in my opinion. Their sauce is so damn good. I ate all my food as did everyone else. No leftovers for this funky bunch. I'm so bummed my coworker quit. Now I have to take the time to hit up SP on my own time just to get a decent meal. read more

Honestly you should try all of the proteins ... everyone has their own favorites! Their beef ribs are so good that I order an entire rack of ribs for myself, and I am not a very big person lol! My husband gets his own rack of ribs plus their chicken and sausage (which are also delish!), and we order all of their side dishes. The Best BBQ is great for good meals and that of what you would expect from a place of this kind, i didn't give it a higher rating as often whenever lunch or the rush comes, it can be impossible to find any good parking, even if you can, the wait is more grueling, not because of the staff but just of how long it can take, i recommend that if you have some time to spare and don't mInd a bit of a wait for quality meals that feel more like home cooked, this is the place to check out.
