Our house faces due west and can get over 100 degrees in the summer, which rendered it useless for storage of certain items. Another garage door repair company quoted me $500 to replace two of four door panels on my garage door, but with an 8-week lead time. The metal frame broke on one of the door panels and they are replaced in pairs. Anyway, I needed the door fixed sooner than 8 weeks, and called Best Bet Garage Door Co. When the Tech, John Chavez, showed up and saw the door, he offered to replace the two door panels in about two weeks, but then took a closer look and told me I did not need to replace the doors - a brace could be added for about $90 instead of replacing essentially half the door. I had no idea a brace was an option, and John had the brace in his truck. So what started out as a visit by John to give me a free estimate on buying panels and installing them, became an inexpensive repair session in less than one hour, including the spring replacement described below. John also noticed that the springs above the doors that serve as counterbalances for the heavy weight of the door had worn out. The door should be easy enough for my wife to open in case of power outage, but the door was very heavy due to the bad springs. With good springs, the weight of the door during the lift should be relatively light and consistent all the way up, until it is fully opened. He gave me a sale price on the springs, installed them, lubricated the hinges and bearings for me, and I paid about $300 for the job. He drove away, and I got a repaired door and springs at a great price, instead of having to replace the doors. John was great. I recommend Best Bet. read more
