First time in today. Friendly owner who showed me everything I was looking for. I asked for some pointers on some wines that would be good table wines without costing an arm an a leg and he gave me numerous examples and helped me find a great tequila to use as well, with several good options to choose from. I like that they sell a really nice, sturdy bottle carrying bag at cost $2.50 for their customers to bring home everything safely. They could have easily gouged a bit on that. There were so many other fine liquors I wanted to look at but I couldn't allow myself to be tempted too much-I only have two arms to carry everything home with! We placed an order online and the owner emailed us for a copy of DRIVER LICENSE and CREDIT CARD for authorization. I promptly done so and not suspect anything as I spoke on the phone with the owner. The owner then replied to your email that our info does not match, which is not true, and he declined our order. I made many online orders in the past and it's the first time I am asked to send a copy of my driver license and credit card. Wish I could give zero stars but Yelp doesn't allow. Spent hours searching the internet looking for a specific whiskey for my Husband for Christmas. Corks on Columbus website allowed me to order it, put in all of my shipping info and pay by credit card. Today I received an email from an employee who said, "We do not ship that particular whiskey. We save that for our loyal customers". ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Does that mean basically that you hold it and sell it all to your "friends"? They recommended a wonderful Côte du Rhône and a small 200ml Cognac, both reasonably priced. Have to add that Corks' New Year's Eve champagne choices and prices exceeded expectations. I bought some bottles of hard to find whisky recently from them and was very pleased with the whole experience. I had called earlier in the morning to see if they had received the bottles and they said no but to call back the following Wednesday. Then I receive a call from Corks about 2 hours later saying that they got the bottles in and would I like one? I thought this was really thoughtful, especially since I had not left my name or number and they took the time to get my number from caller ID and call me back. I really appreciated that! Plus, I was very happy with my purchase. Staff was friendly and professional and I would definitely go back here when I am in the neighborhood to buy something else. read more

What a wonderful experience I had here this afternoon! A friend brought me a bottle of Langley gin last year. It's not sold at a lot of stores in the city but it is delicious, 40 bucks a bottle (so same as Hendrick's) and so yummy I can drink it NEAT. I have never, not once, enjoyed gin neat. That's how terrific this stuff is. I called from the club on 67th (Equinox Sports Club) because I didn't want to walk to 75/6 if they were out. He put one aside for me and when I arrived he asked how I came to like Langley enough to call and walk 10 blocks to pick it up. I told him and we started to talk about gin. I said I was cooking dinner for a friend (never do this) and that I had to go back to Gourmet Garage but should have done that shopping before lugging a bottle back to the bus to the UES. He's thinking of moving to the area and a realtor mentioned GG as a perk. I said it was wondrous but that UES one in the mid-60s is too far east for me and that I like the Lincoln Center one by the bus stop. Then he told me about a pricey gin he says it the best gin he's ever tried. It's 47 a half bottle, so 95 a full bottle. German. Monkey 47. He worried he wouldn't be able to sell so expensive a gin (because people will spend more on whiskey than gin, he said, as someone in this business a long time). "But I can't keep it on the shelves! People love it," he told me. We talked about other gins. I mentioned Bainbridge (WA , organic) which is very good. And then I walked down to Trader Joe's (see prior review) and witnessed the carnage of that horrifying market. Lovely neighborhood store. Support local business! read more

With a variety of good wine shops in the area, why go to Corks on Columbus? So far we have not found their wine selections to be of great quality warranting the higher prices - there are few offerings of wines for $20 an under that we can find. The previous store located here - Nancy's - had a terrific selection of various price points with a knowledgeable staff. Maybe we've had more misses than hits with Corks? read more

YES! I've never written the 1st review for anyone on Yelp so this is an honor. I just stopped in for the Grand Opening celebration and was really impressed (enough to actually right a review!). They were staffed up and able to keep a pretty big crowd moving so there wasn't much of a wait. The selection is perfect. There are bargain wine stores around the UWS but I like this spot because it's not overwhelming and the options are great. Beyond the quality, I think they are pricing things fairly. It's not a non-profit but I think finding a couple Pinot Noir options from Willamette Valley under 20 bucks is good enough for me. Its def a family business and I like the warm personalities of the owners. I'm the opposite of talkative but enjoy the conversation while passing through. They know their wines and also run specials which is an added bonus. This place is off to a great start. I'm hoping they introduce the dummy-proof wine shopping system at some point as well. I'm a huge fan of knowing staff favorites, wine spectator scoring and signs pointing to value wines. (Hoping they read this and consider this!) Corks on Columbus is a gem of a wine shop! I'd walked past it several times since it changed ownership, the new signage had caught my eye. Last week I stepped inside for the first time, on my way to a party--I'm so glad I did! The wine selection is lovely, and the store is tastefully decorated & unpretentious. They offer a nice variety of wines at various price ranges--including a decent selection of champagnes & spirits--and some unique varieties. Raul (one of the owners) clearly knows and loves his wine! I inquired about a Brunello di Montalcino--and I learned quite a bit about Italian vineyards & winemaking ... including learning about some Italian wines I'd never heard of. I ended up choosing a lower-priced wine with similar characteristics, which was well-liked by my friends. Raul is not only passionate about wine--he obviously loves people, which translates to awesome customer service. While I browsed through the store, I overheard him interacting with the customers who came in--he made each one feel welcome and made sure they were being taken care of. He even gave candy to the kids. Really great customer service ... plus wine tastings, and free delivery--what's not to like? read more

Great new owners have brought a nice and broad selection of wines and liquors. The owners Raul and Brad are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They have a great selection of wines from around the world, and great champagnes including Veuve Cliquot and Dom Perignon (2004). They have a terrific selection of bourbons, whiskeys, single-malt scotches, among others hard spirits. They also have tastings of the the "good stuff" on a weekly basis -- Macallan single malt scotch tasting coming up among others. Prices are attractive and reasonable for the neighborhood.
