I got mine on flour tortillas with everything on it. There was a side of four sauces with different spice levels which made for a nice pairing with the tacos. I was really excited to try the tacos al pastor here, but I left pretty disappointed. I ordered five tacos total three regular al pastor tacos and two cheese tacos on flour tortillas. After waiting about 20 minutes, I only received part of my order. When I finally started eating, I realized there was no salsa in the bag and no pineapple on the corn tacos, which is one of the best parts of al pastor. The quality of the tacos just wasn't there. The cheese taco had hard, unmelted cheese, and overall everything felt underwhelming. Just al pastor done right. I asked the gentleman behind the counter for a recommendation, and he suggested starting with three tacos. They arrived on a paper plate with lime wedges and four incredible handmade sauces. One bite in and I knew I had found something special. The tacos are on the smaller side and I was hungry, so I ordered another round. Six tacos total, and every one of them was delicious. With a Topo Chico and a tip, my total was $24. It felt like a reasonable value for the quality. If you love tacos, especially al pastor, and appreciate a place that focuses on doing one thing exceptionally well, Taqueria Los Cuates is a must try. Went here after a coworker recommended it, and wow, he was not wrong! The tacos here are fire! It's a pastor-only spot (with a few variations), and they do it right. I got two traditional pastor tacos (onion + cilantro on corn tortillas) and a gringa (flour tortilla, melty cheese, and pastor). We did a planned day trip to San Antonio, and on the way in I did a Yelp search for tacos. Los Cuates popped up and I pulled up. It's a small place with street parking. There are a couple of tables outside, and a small seating area inside. I'm going to guess that the person behind the counter was the owner, really friendly and quick to help us. We all ordered the Al Pastor tacos and got a cold Modelo from the fridge. When the tacos were brought out they were served with 4 different hot sauces, the owner told us that they ranged from hottest to mildest. I jumped into the hottest, the green avocado was the bottle I stayed with. Spicy and really delicious. The meat was very tasty and they all had pineapple pieces mixed in. Please keep in mind that these tacos are authentic Mexican street tacos, which means they are smaller than your Tex-mex food, and they are also a little more pricey. They only have al pastor tacos, which is a type of marinated pork, and they can use it for quesadillas or tacos. My usual order is five street tacos in corn tortilla with everything. I also like that they have 4 different salsas, so you can choose your our adventure as to how spicy or mild you want your tacos. We stumbled upon this location because we made the mistake of trying to eat dinner in Southtown when most locations were closed but it was such a good find. If you're looking to try a bunch of different flavored tacos, this is not the place for you! They only have the al pastor, al pastor, al pastor and you guessed it, the al pastor. Place is pretty small but it got really busy by the time we were leaving on a Monday night. I would say get there around 6 PM if you want a place to sit and before it gets noisy! I got the Gringa only because it pretty much has everything but you can try different shells if you want. They shave the meat off right in front of your eyes. It was very reminiscent of the tacos you get off the streets in Mexico. My uncle who was visiting got the flan.
