This was by far the best burger I've ever had in San Antonio. The bun was toasted and had a nice little crunch and the patty was full of flavor. A small order of fry's was like a medium and they had a nice crisp outside with a fluffy inside and were lightly salted. Service was great, staff is kind and welcoming. This was a throwback for sure! Glad we came for lunch. Sometimes you get tired of the fads and gimmicks from restaurants and you just want fresh and classic flavors. This hit the spot. I ordered the Berry's special, and chili cheese fries. The patty was cooked perfectly! It was SEASONED and the burger itself felt like home. The onions and jalapeños were also delicious. It all melded with the mustard to give that old diner flavor. Man it made my eyes water remembering my late mother when we would all eat here as a family. The chili cheese fries, well tasted like chili fries. In a great way. NOSTALGIA! So why not a 5? Some gripes, but as affordable as this place still is, can't be upset. The buns could use some improvement as they fell apart before I could finish the burger. Also a bit off balanced as there was way more lettuce and toppings than actual meat. The chili cheese fries were greasy. I get it, it should be, but the closer I got to finish them, the fries were swimming in a pool of oil. It's not the best burger in town, and that's ok. Having been a regular customer at Brenda's for the past year, I was disappointed to find that this visit did not meet the standards I've come to expect. My bun was nearly burnt and unpleasantly hard, while the onion rings were overcooked to the point of being tough and difficult to chew. Though this experience was not reflective of the usual quality I've enjoyed here, I understand that occasional missteps happen. I'll be returning, hopeful that this was merely an off day. This place was super busy!! It was lunch time so expected. Staff were friendly and food was great. Just be aware there will be a wait time.

Food first: My mother and I ordered two Doubles and one Large. The burgers tasted like they were microwaved, the lettuce was wilted, the tomato slices were cut so thin that it just tasted like nothing. The burger meat by itself didn't have any seasoning. We got two orders of the fries, one of which was fresh while the other tasted like it had been an older batch. We also purchased a Frito Pie, but it was the same quality. Not great. For the price, compared to what we got, I'd have to say not worth it. We paid about 37$ for three burgers, a frito pie and two fries. With only one of those fries being good, fresh and well salted. Service second: Service was good, decent waiting time, friendly staff. Ambiance was quiet, we spent more time talking than actually looking. read more

I waited for almost 40 minutes for a single burger and small fries. I placed my order and sat down at the round table by the register and waited for them to call my number. When I noticed they were giving food to ppl who came in after I asked about my order and the girl tried blaming another customer grabbing my food. They never called my number. Great burgers taste home made fast service . Price decent but it's worth every penny.

Decided to try something new. I ended up getting the grilled cheese, which they did disclose before putting my order in they use hamburger buns instead of regular bread slices. I said fine. Ordered onion rings and a small drink. Small drink was 2.39... I should have ordered the large because it was only .30 cents more because there are no free refills, which I saw maybe one or two people refilled without paying. The refill is .50 cents. So you might as well just get the large. The onion rings were great. No complaints. The grilled cheese, on the other hand... I felt like I was just eating toasted hamburger buns with a hint of cheese. Maybe take a page from Burger Boy, and if you're going to do hamburger buns for your grilled cheese, then turn them inside out and then butter it so the bread isn't overpowering the cheese. The grilled cheese execution gets lost in translation with the hamburger buns. Other than that, there's no real complaint. I would go back again and give it another chance. Definitely not order the grilled cheese. read more
