Located off of I-74 and Matthews Township Blvd, Best Buy is in a safe part of town with a few shopping options around the store to make a day with the family. The entrance, exit and the overall roads in this town center are horribly planned so remain alert when driving there. That said, going inside the pleasantries continue the downward trend. Stepping inside, one might notice that first of all, this Best Buy is small, thus less options. Moreover, as with most Best Buys now adays, directly in front of the shopper, you know where the DVDs, Blu rays, 4ks used to be to encourage impulse shopping, lies the multitude of cell phones. It's just baren and I noticed the staff isn't exactly engaging or being proactive. Perhaps that's just my personal issue. The phones are by far the best-selling points and have the most accessories. Please note the inventory of DYI items like wire, connectivity butts, odd length of HDMI cable and things of that nature have been scaled down. I strongly advise checking online if you don't like just browsing like me. Also, a lot of options in terms of computer mice, keyboards and things of that nature aren't as plentiful anymore. I mean, it's better than many other competitors but not what I remember of the golden age of Best Buy in the 2000s. As I stated, CDs, DVDs, 4ks and even a robust game selection for the major consoles is gone. Yes, they do carry a limited selection of games, most have been replaced by some odd toys like Funko Pop, Disney or something of the like. Come to think of it, I forgot to check on records! As for gaming consoles, they do have a selection of controllers, computers do have a few mice and keyboard options and the stereo selection is ok with a broad range of products in differing price ranges. I admit it, I miss things like a well-stocked Best Buy, Toys R Us, the mall, Barnes and Noble, Circuit City, Block Buster, Camelot Music and many other places. I liked to walk around but I knew they always had what I needed. We call things "progress" right now but it seems what's left of brick-and-mortar businesses don't put much effort into their own survival. The people at this Best Buy were ghosts when needed and for the first time ever, I left irritated. Their commitment to the customer has long gone and considering how carefree they are to service, then I'm not going back. Best Buy with all of the first world problems going on, I even hate to bring this up up but I was in your Matthews, NC location today and stood in front a $1500 gaming pc which I wanted to purchase for 5-10 minutes (I've worked retail management and understand consumer time) but the area manager was too busy talking to an associate to acknowledge me out the other three people wandering around looking for help. I hav been to this location several times since I moved to Charlotte. I feel that Best Buy is like radio shack or circuit city. They are in a shared parking lot with plenty of parking. There are a lot of items or a wide selection. The prices are high so shop around. When you enter you are greeted by security and an employee at the desk. They must have experienced some serious theft as they are hawks. They moved the checkout to the side of the store. A lot of people working but not many can assist. Good luck! read more

Clearly based on the rating in Yelp this negative review is going to be somewhat redundant. Nonetheless, I feel it's important to comment. This negative review is by no means a reflection on the staff at the store I visited. It is directed at the short-sighted policy changes implemented by the current CEO, Corrie Barry. I purchased Total Tech Care early in 2019. I was sold on the service by the associate telling me that I could get a newly purchased radio and back-up camera installed for free. And at that time they were even installing equipment bought someplace other than Best Buy. They then changed the policy a short time later to only installing equipment bought at Best Buy. I can understand that. Now, that service has been eliminated. I was going to buy another backup camera for $140.00. But the cost to have it installed would be another $150.00. I was told the new CEO continues to reduce services as a cost-cutting measure. But if you need to cut costs because sales are falling off the last place you want to do it is for services that draw customers in. That's just basic common sense. Clearly, Ms. Barry has no idea how to restore the faith people once had in Best Buy, which has been declining since she took over. read more

Employees at the customer service desk look pissed and bothered that you got in line at the desk. No greeting and not helpful. They closed for remodeling and re opened with a staff that is mor rude and a store that is less clean. My husband ordered a game to be picked up and the woman was rude, the box was damaged and we found out at home it was EMPTY!! The woman helping a customer next to us was dancing as she helped her customer but not in an inclusive way but rather a she may be high way and treated her customer rudely with a question and then made the poor woman feel bad. The women's restroom had one working toilet and no paper towels. For a store that went through a remodel, it's smaller and dirtier than it was before and the workers are less professional. If you are a manager, it's time to train. read more

After closing the location on Independence Blvd, they re-opened a nearby location that used to be a Circuit City in Matthews. You can't really see the store from Independence, but once you take the Matthews (hwy51) exit and travel east - like you are heading toward Butler High School, it will come up on your left (Sycamore Commons) where the Costco, Lowes, and other shopping places are. Since they recently renovated this place, it's pretty nice and they have that new check-out line that all BestBuys have where it seems like they funnel u in and then there's a queue to the next available register (with a ton of impulse buys in front of your face the entire time while you are waiting in line). I don't think it was a bad move on BestBuy's part since they got a new store... but it's a little hard to find if you aren't looking for it. Do not go to this Best Buy, between now (8/15/21 and sometime in September) unless you are only going to pick up a Pre-Ordered item or you confirm it's actually reopened. It does not say it on the website, but this location is closed inside for renovations til sometime in September. I drove 18 minutes to get here because the store site says it's open til 7pm. I've watch multiple cars drive up, people get out and walk to the store front, only to be told it's closed inside. That's a lot of customers being surprised and frustrated. He went into a rant about how the area here and the demographics didn't have a high enough income to afford macs. They said it would take about and hour and half, but gave him an appt. time of 7pm (because they had to put a time in the computer), but said to come back when we got the txt that it was done. Came back when they texted at 2:15pm (we grabbed lunch next door). Here we sit at 3pm because they've decided they aren't obligated to give us the phone-OR EVEN INFORM OF US IF IT WAS FIXED- until 7pm. They are holding his phone hostage. This store is full of scammers as I and a customer who just posted two hours before this one soon found out. They ordered a game and found out it was empty and in our case we ordered a tv and they claim someone came in with my wife's name on an ID. Said they had video and a license plate but didn't seem too alarmed about finding out who committed this fraud at their store. Said we couldn't see the video ourselves and the police will need a subpoena. ‍So they're throwing up roadblocks instead of trying to help the customer‍.Instead they were all too ready to suggest to file a dispute with PayPal and "you should get your money back". I'm not satisfied with that response. Seems as though somebody dropped the ball and didn't check ID or there are some crooked people behind the scenes at BestBuy. Best Buy, what a misnomer. I started coming here to get what I thought was better service than Midtown but today's visit to simply showed the apathy is everywhere and it's cancerous. A simple charging cable replacement took too long as receipt look ups went on and on. Then I was given the wrong replacement as I asked for help to identify the item (I needed Dynex versus the Insignia that was handed over). Then, I decided to pick up more items since they were clearly marked $1.99 each cable and portable chargers. Honeyyyyyyy, at check out the cashier made it her business to call someone over the mic to verify this. They did so she needed a manager to handle the price change. No worries. She called someone. he was stopped by a customer on the way to me. How do I know? Nope, she didn't tell me. I overheard tell someone when she ASKED #2 to please handle the price change. That person, Katherine, walked right by and took a seat saying how "I think he doesn't want to handle it and take the hit." Then some man in a Black geek squad shirt appearing to be the Deputy of that team and I'm sure a manager of sorts came over and was told the story then proceeded to patronize me with "We will get it handled. Don't worry." but he never made an attempt to change the prices and handle things himself. This is laughable and insultuous. Because he went on to explain, "Oh these were the prices last week and I guess they didn't get around to updating things. But don't worry we will get you taken care of." I guess the final guy was the original guy that came over and marked 2 cables and 2 portable chargers all made by Dynex down from $7.99 to the posted $1.99 so I could be on my merrily little way. Cables: $1.99 Service: Dismissive and apathetic Time Wasted: insurmountably priceless. Why? I couple this trip with my last trip to Midtown on 4/23/17 to buy cables before driving across country and although I order the cables and car chargers online for pick up when I got to the empty store the workers were busier talking to themselves than pulling my order that someone took the time to pull and leave in a cart near the online pick up register. But no one printed the tags and they were missing items from my order saying I didn't order it. Later on, I got a cancellation email saying I never picked up the missing cables. Which by the way I was forced to find in the store and buy right there in order not to drive off without something to get me across the country. Yeah, I don't like having to do other people jobs. Hence, why I choose to skip Midtown #1108 as much as possible even though it's the closest to the residence. read more

The main problem is the Customer Service desk but it spilled over to the Geek Squad in my visit this past weekend. No customer service skills at all. They treated me like I was some kind of criminal. I was told by the person that was helping me from Apple.com to go to this Best Buy. Bad mistake because the headphones I bought in and had to replace last year had the same problem. I bought a phone here and the mobile customer service person was very helpful. I tried to order the phone two times through bestbuy.com and also tried to purchase it at the Midtown Best Buy. Bestbuy.com kept cancelling my order because they could not pre-activate the phone with Sprint. The Midtown location would not give the same price as on the bestbuy.com website. This is just my experience since I have moved to the area. Yesterday I returned an item and the customer service employee was very rude to me and acted as though they didn't want to help me in any way even though I was nice as could be. I work in customer service too, I know it is tough and there are bad days but this was the last straw for me. I will not be purchasing anymore products from them. After my computer died I was in search for a new one. After visiting one other Best Buy, with much better service, my Dad wanted to get some other prices before making the purchase. We stopped at a few non-Best Buy stores, but realized they had the best deal. Being in the area of this location we decided to stop in to see if they had the same option and thought we could make the purchase instead of going back to the original Best Buy, bad move on our part. We headed straight to the 'Computer' section and NO ONE could be found. We waited, and waited, walked around, and waited. Finally a gentlemen arrived, who seemed like he was 13 years old. He had no knowledge of the computer we asking about and quoted the wrong price, the wrong options that came on the computer, and even what was included was the docking station. My father was getting frusturated by the minute. We finally got him to make a call and confirm all the details so we decided to move forward with the purchase. He never said a word to us other than answering our questions. A horrible experience and I plan to not return to this location, unless I am in the area. I was pushed online to get me to get out of the store. The guy at the front couldn't give a crap and condescendingly pushed me to the Xbox area. A sextagenarian in the Xbox area hurriedly pushed me to the Google phone side of the store. One guy tried to upsell me to an item I didn't need, hurriedly. My boyfriend and I headed out to Best Buy to search for an Internet provider. We had visions of Yelp, Facebook and YouTube flying through our heads and were so excited that we would be able to hop online after leaving the store and hooking up our new doodad. Well we get there, and it's set up like I've never seen a Best Buy before. They are situated with a few other stores in a parking garage. The garage itself is enough to give these places a lower rating. By the time we got parked and dodged enough cars the thoughts of the Internet were replaced with road rage. It started out well once we walked into the store. We were browsing the mobile phone section and a lady walks right up to us, and is super helpful. We chatted about phones and then asked her about the Internet. She pointed us over to the area with all the shiny new modems and promises of me seeing Ihascheezburger.com or yelp, or www.paraadventures.com & www.facebook.com/ghost.hunts. (Shameless self promotion on the last two... haha) We wandered over to the Internet area and started our search. We looked for an associate and there were none free. No biggie, it was a Saturday and we knew it was going to be busy. We walked up to the Clear Wireless section where we'd heard a few things about. We wanted to speak to someone though to make sure they were in our coverage area. Well, we walked around, walked around some more, and then more....and more and more.. and still no associates to speak to. I took the box with the shiny new product in it and walked towards the front of the store. FINALLY a manager stops to greet me and I tell him that I'm just wanting to find out more about the internet. He walks back over with us and starts to research the coverage area, and he sees another associate and hands us off. That associate starts to activate the device and has issues. He tells us that we will have to go home to activate it. After being there for nearly two hours we are frazzled, but still excited to get home and hook up the internet. Well, we get home, and lo & behold we are not in their coverage area! GRRRR... talk about frustrated. I called the manager and she informed me that I should go with AT&T because they are much better and faster. We took the unit back, and did just that except we went to the actual AT&T store! After the frustration we had dealing with parking, the poor level of service and the misinformation with the internet, I honestly can't see myself heading there again for any reason in the near future. Employees are nice enough but the store is severely understaffed. Bought a laptop the other night and was rushed through the process by an associate just trying to get to the next customer. Wanted a new laptop, a Lenova brand, but they didn't have one in stock. Associate said they had an "open box" available and that it would be fine and work the same as buying it new. It was SUPER glitchy from the second I turned it on and it crashed every 10-15 minutes. Got the "Total Tech Support" package from BB. Arranged to have a TV installed...they said I need an electrician...another $250 on top of "Total Tech Support"...cha ching. Guys showed up to install TV...only problem is they didn't have the TV...didn't know where it was...didn't pick it up. I had to pick it up the next day even thought they said they'd deliver. A COMPLETELY UNCOORDINATED operation...no TV, I needed an electrician and even though I made appointment next day for somewhere between 12pm-4pm, they show up at 7pm. Trying to think of what else could have gone wrong...only thing would be they drop the TV while installing it when they finally get here in 30 minutes. Makes me feel like the Three Stooges runs this place. A complete joke! Never again and I'd avoid anything to do with "service" at Best Buy. It was the day of my mothers funeral and I had prepared a mini movie on a visual/audio projector. It had stopped working. I rushed over to Best Buy for help and ran to the back of the store where I had gotten help before. I was in tears, I was burying my mother in a few hours and I needed this machine to work for the funeral service. I had worked on my mini movie for weeks. I was pretty sure it was the connection and not the machine itself. The young man at the TV section named Chris was very empathetic and eager to help. He brought me straight over to Geek Squad with my machine and told the lady there how dire my predicament was. She just stood there leaning against her counter saying "if you dont have an appointment I cant help you." No customer was with her. I cried, begged, told her I needed this fixed for my mothers funeral in couple hours would she at least just LOOK because I thought it was the cord, not the machine. Could she just check it with a new connection cord. She didn't move from her leaning spot, "I cant look at it without an appointment. its not gonna get fixed today anyhow. We don't that right here, you know, that has to be sent out. Its gonna be at least a few weeks." And she continued to lean just looking at me, obviously didnt give 2 turds about me or my problems...she seemed to enjoy the fact that she had the power to crush my soul like that. I turned to Chris and said could he please TRY to help, that I really thought it was the connecting cord and could he please look. He was so kind and understanding, and said understood because he's been through it and he would do the best he could. He went searching for a cord and he tested it right there in the store with my machine and it worked! it was an sigh of relief like no other Ive ever had. CHIS WAS MY ANGEL THAT DAY! he deserves a that full 5 star rating, he deserves a promotion and a raise! The leaning Geek Sqaud lady deserves negative 5 black soul stars. read more

I had a great experience at this store. I bought a tv online that I had trouble with due to my own ignorance. The young lady in the customer service department was great when I asked for a replacement. She helped me on three occasions, and was kind and caring. The gentleman in electronics who helped me select a tv was awesome and they even carried it out and put it the car for me. I wish I knew names so I could praise each one individually. This was a great experience and I have never met nicer employees. I would recommend this Matthews store to everyone. read more

I would love to thank Best Buy for the brand new TV I bought mid-January. I bought it as a gift for my mother in laws upcoming 50th birthday but decided to buy early due to it being on sale. I had bought it online and had it shipped to my house. Of course, being a gift, I did not open it and no one touched it until it was given to her on her birthday, Feb 24. (At this point, past the return period). When she opened it, the screen was cracked and wrapped over the crack. Let it be known that no one has moved this TV or even touched it except to move it from our door to inside the house. After calling Best Buy, we were told they could do nothing for us because it was past 14 days since we bought the TV (I get that it is outside the return period but who would open a gift that wasn't meant for them that should've been shipped and sent without defects anyway), but that there was a 1 year warranty through LGTV. So we give LGTV a call and opened an escalations claim, in which "they would call back" within 3-5 business days. I called back within 3 days, claim was still open, I called in 5 claim still open. I called again in 6 business days and finally after I had to do all the follow up work I was told they would cover the labor cost and I only had to pay the cost of the screen which would be $350. I ONLY PAID $288 total for the TV anyway. Of course I declined. Someone in their right mind please tell me how I am supposed to pay $350 to replace a screen on a $290 TV that either Best Buy or their shipping company broke in the first place?! Why should I have to pay DOUBLE for something I DID NOT DO. My family has bought countless electronics and things from Best Buy in the past, so as a big customer of yours, we are highly disappointed.
