    Chimney Rebuild
    Philip J.

We originally had an issue with our Chimney, and it needed a repointing on the Chimney from the roofline up only. Unfortunately we mistakenly hired an Irish Guy (small business) who owned a Chimney Repair business that came in at a low price. He was a complete disaster, and ended up tearing down half of the chimney, we fired him since we discovered he did not pull the proper permits to perform the work needed. We then found Best Chimney, and met with Reggie the salesman to discuss options going forward. He reassured us that it can be fixed without tearing down the rest of the chimney, and we believe he gave us a fair estimate of the work needed to complete the job. The masons were very quiet, and worked efficiently, and completed the rebuild in a timely manner. As you can see in the before and after photos we are very happy with the Chimney rebuild. Thanks So Much Best Chimney of Dedham ! It should be noted that Reggie was able to find a supplier of distressed bricks that matched the rest of the 125 year old brick house.

    Dusty, dirty BEFORE

I was nervous about getting my chimney repaired after meeting with a couple contractors. Some had a lowish price to treat only the cosmetics. Others had a massive quotes because "That whole thing has to come down today". I felt like I was destined to get taken advantage of because I don't know anything masonry. After meeting with Reggie from Best I figured out why the have the name Best. He got up on the roof, came inside and did a complete inventory and documented the issues. Then we reviewed the photos and talked about options and the prices of each. Reggie came up with the idea of lifting the hearth and framing it with granite cobbles. The price was highish but nowhere near what some others had quoted. I was very pleased with the price and scope of the work. The crew was like an army of ants. There were a bunch of them and they were always busy, clean, quiet and respectful of my property.

Best Chimney lived up to its name! Brian came out for the quote and gave us multiple competitive options, including trying to save us money based on codes and guidelines versus historic chimney heights. Scheduling was a breeze and we received multiple reminders prior to the work. On site, José was incredible. He was professional, timely, and did the work beautifully while giving us frequent updates on progress. They completed the work they committed to in the time they stated for the price they quoted. Very happy with the results and would use them again!

They did solve my problem with smoke by installing a smoke guard the following week. I was doubtful it would work, but it did!

We have just had a gas fireplace insert installed through Boston Fine Home Details in Newton, MA…read more Susan Grabowsky, Project Manager, has worked with us every step of the way giving us suggestions and explaining the whole process including how the system works. She is very knowledgeable and follows up quickly on any questions or concerns. It was so easy to work with her. Tom from the Service Dept. which is located at Brassworks Fine Home Details, their Providence office, installed the unit and was very helpful explaining everything to us. They will do a yearly servicing of this unit. We had not been able to use our wood burning fireplace since our stone fireplace has an oversized arch which caused the smoke to come into the living room rather than go up the flue. It was suggested to us that inserting a gas fireplace insert would solve the problem and allow us to have an actual fire. It works with a remote so one button turns it on and off. There is no longer any wood that needs to be brought in and it is clean. There are controls on the remote to make the temperature in the room stay constant or if you want the fire to stay on you can manually set it to just burn until you want to stop it or it gets too hot in the room. You can adjust the flame, fan and lights. The "wood" pieces are ceramic made to look exactly like wood that has been tinged a little and there are embers in the bottom. The scene is so realistic! The heat warms the room and there is a backup pack you can plug in in case you lose your power and need some heat from the fireplace. It looks beautiful and adds a lot to your room. The only thing missing was the smell of a fire burning but we have gotten a candle from Yankee Candle (also at Bed Bath and Beyond) which smells like a fireplace and crackles. We advise using the plumber Boston Fine Home Details recommends for the gas line to be run - Paul DeVito. He and his son, Kyle, only work on this type of plumbing work and are excellent. Boston Fine Home Details works with Best Chimney Services in Dedham to help install the gas flue down the chimney. You also need to add in this cost for the gas line, an electrician's fee to insert an outlet in the fireplace and Best Chimney's fees to your total cost. Susan Grabowsky can inform you of general costs for these different businesses and recommendations of reliable people. One tip is to allow for several days to air out your house because you need to light the fire and open the windows (close door of room if you can) to allow for the materials used in the production of the unit to burn off. We highly recommend Boston Fine Home Details and the associated businesses listed above. You will love your new fireplace! A picture is attached.
