I made an appointment with Hoa he never showed, I call him 30 mins later that's when I found out he had a scheduling conflict...we rescheduled he was late and only wanted to do my roof when I only wanted painting and some carpentry work done...our conversation was based how he was a real professional and his advice to me is to always look for the company name on the side of his truck....and...the information on his other clients and what they did for a living and that they can afford his prices and that's how he charges....at that point I did not feel it necessary to tell him what I did for a living...and asked him to send me an estimated....I was suppose to received the estimate on the Monday...it is now three weeks later... They really are the best. They are licensed, certified and fast. My experience is getting a new chimney liner and rebuilding of our chimney bricks on the roof. They did all the work in less time than anticipated and the price came in less money than their original quote. What could be better! When choosing someone to work on your roof, you want someone who knows what they are doing. Boston's Best uses staging. You can see they take care and you have no worries. It pains me to give a 1 star review (and rare that I have to give bad reviews). My recommendation is that you research the options and get estimates before using this company. Search for other chimney experts or masons. I really feel like I was taken advantage of on this $4000 job and am ashamed that I did not do due diligence research prior to choosing Boston's Best Chimney. The work was scheduled for a 3 day window, however, completed in only 6 hours with a three person team. Even the owner was surprised, saying it was a 2 day job, and repeatedly asked me if we were sure that the crew only was on site for 6 hours. The work was sloppy. The crew was mortar slap happy. When installing a liner for the water heater they removed a perimeter of bricks and literally slopped on mortar to seal it back up. The owner agreed that this is not how the work is typically performed and had someone come back to replace mortar with brick. They did not have the courtesy to clean the chimney doors where they installed the liner. The owner stated that the debris in the door was mostly old. Either way, if you are working in the flue you should be cleaning the chimney doors as standard practice and a courtesy. They spray lined the main chimney flue, however, they did not do a general chimney sweep prior to spraying. Like painting a house you should always clean a surface before application of new paint. The owner stated that he will warranty the work for 1 year if there are any problems. The spray liner dripped all over the damper and was not cleaned up. The owner said they should have cleaned the damper and had an employee correct the issue. On the exposed chimney they placed tar which literally looks like someone just rubbed tar all over the chimney with their hands. I am not a chimney expert, that is why I hired one-however, had I known that the chimney would look like that after application of tar I would not have approved of that. We were never given options to flashing types, to which the owner was surprised and said that should have been discussed. The chimney cap was reset in mortar that already a few weeks later had hairline fractures. The owner also addressed this an issue that should have been evaluated and did have an employee correct the issue (though I have not gone up to check it personally). After the work was completed we looked in the attic to see daylight flooding in from all around the chimney. This was not previously like this as we had an insulation team air seal the entire attic. They did for the most part correct this, though I will have to confirm on a rainy day if it is leaking. At the end of the 6 hours of work we ended up having to clean all the debris that landed on our deck. They did not take the time to walk around and clean up after themselves. The owner addressed the problems promptly and sent a competent member of his team to fix many of the issues. However, I never received a call or email from the owner to see if we were happy with the outcome of the work after the 2nd visit to correct problems, which should be a common courtesy. Additionally, knowing that his team took shortcuts throughout the whole process should alarm him as to the integrity of his business and how his employees conduct his business. While he acknowledged mistakes were made he still seemed defensive. All I know is that we were shorted on this deal and are the fool for it. If you get an estimate ask them what is the labor charge vs. material charge and have them line itemize everything...everything! It really doesn't add up for the quality of work we received. She read from some script and when I tried to get clarification on the pricing (ie: cleaning and/or inspection) she gave me attitude. I never called back to make an appt.. They need to train their staff on how to answer the phone and be polite. read more

They came and cleaned my chimney, wrote up a quote for $500+ of work which wasn't needed then walked out 'borrowing' one of my game controllers for the PS3. Don't trust them, it will cost you. read more

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! I made the mistake of hiring them to repoint, skim, repair the flashing around a rooftop chimney in Oct 2011. They made an absolute mess of a relatively simple job. For starters they attempted to "glue" the lead flashing to the asphalt shingles, they used silicone caulk on TOP of the shingles, didn't even attempt to weave the lead in. The kid in charge of the 2 man crew tried to tell me "that's how it's done." Oh, REALLY? So I climbed up onto the roof to get a better look, not only did they try to glue the flashing, they didn't even do that "right." Nickel sized gaps on the upslope side of that flashing told me all I needed to know. They never touched the actual flashing just the lead. The surfacing with FSB looked ok (I couldn't see any obvious defects) nor could I check out the pointing job, because they covered the wet mortar with FSB. At this point went back down to ground level and told their crew they needed to get someone out here who knew what they were doing. They then asked me what kind of expert I was. So being more than a little hot at this point, I whipped out my MA CSL (Construction Supervisors License.) I got both their boss and the owner out to my house PDQ. After a long conversation about how it looked good to him, the owner told me to go F-myself he wasn't fixing it. So I told him to get off my property. The kid who worked for him and was responsible for the other two knew this was messed up and said so. He left and came back in a few days with a roofer to fix the flashing. I ended up standing on the roof supervising them as they worked, I know it irked them, but at this point I wasn't taking chances. Fast forward to now, the FSB they applied has completely disengaged from the chimney face and is coming off in big chunks. It made it three whole winters. The job was crap from start to finish and I'm out $1300. My head is reverberating with what my grandfather told me, "if you want it done right, do it yourself!" I can't emphasize enough to stay away from this company! I've read the other reviews here, here's my tip of the week, if a company can send a crew right out, they are not someone you should hire. Good contractors are in demand and you will have to wait for them. read more

The company, Boston Best Chimney came out to my residence to remove a blockage in my chimney. They charged me $400 which I paid immediately. While onsite - the technician told me he was unable to get onto the roof, but it appeared to need a new linear asked me to call the office to schedule an appointment for him to come back out for a further inspection. He estimated $2,500-3,500 for the new linear, but would need to come back to confirm an exact price. I called the office and scheduled the second appointment the BBC technician requested. He came out, did his inspection and at the end he asked for $250 to which I was surprised. I thought he was coming out to narrow down his estimate, and he claimed he was preforming a "liner test" worth $250.00. I spoke to customer service, who was rude and abrasive. BBC never mentioned this fee verbally to me at any point. The rep called me a liar saying that they "do a follow up call the day prior to the appointment so it is not possible they never told me about the fee." Very deceptive for not disclosing their fee upfront the day I called to booked the appointment and for not explaining what a "liner test" means. Also deceptive for not disclosing that they would be billing me $250 even if I did not want a new liner. As far as their claim for disclosing the fee: hiding the fee in the comments area of a sale slip for a previously completed job is not adequate. The price should be disclosed to the customer when the appointment is made. I am mostly upset with how the rep treated me on the phone - how rude she was by interrupting me and telling me that it was "not their problem."
