This is the smaller of the two BestBet poker rooms in Jacksonville. The play here is very soft. Despite that, I still didn't cash in a tournament (small tournament), but you only start with 5k in chips, which makes it more like bingo. I'll cover some other stuff since you probably care more about food than poker. Then again, are you really going to enter a poker room for food? It's possible there is no point to this review at all, but I'll continue anyway. The BLT is pretty good, and the service is good. The fries are potatoey. If you like that, go get some. So if your looking for some gambling and some excitement this is a good place to be. From the dog races to Texas Holdem and other table games it provides a place to see some exciting races, with simulcasting options. The poker room is a little small and there are only a few table games that seem to fill up pretty quick. They do have either a police officer or gaming officer in the room for safety. They do serve drinks and food in the $1 seating section and on the surface seating. There is no outside food allowed in or drinks. Would definitely return for some more fun. read more

I have come here for several different reasons. I live close by so its accessible. The first reason is for the food. On the second floor they have a nice dining area with tables where you can sit for a nice dinner and watch the races. Its a nice place for celebrating events like Birthdays. My family loves their Prime Beef. Its their house specialty and its 12oz potion but is only open the weekend menu. They used to have a buffet that was AWESOME but I think they only have it on holidays. I enjoy any of their many appetizers and of course the desserts are scrumptious. Each floor has a different menu like the Poker Room and the first floor has food stands but all the food is great. They also have a event room on the third floor that you can rent for party's and they offer catering. Theirs a lot more to this place than the dogs so walk around and check it out.especailly the 2nd floor. :) read more

With dog racing/betting still around through 2020 this place is still alive and well through COVID. You are required to wear a mask inside the building at all times even at the tables. This place used to be great back in the day, but as of recently it's changed a lot. Their service is nice and it's a good place to go watch the dogs race even if you're not a gambler, but they just don't have the dinning experience that they used to. Every weekend they had a full seafood bar w fish, crab legs, shrimp, salads, soups, and more - it was amazing! But now they just have a run of the mill menu. The only thing that really stands out is that they do have decent service. All of their wait staff is friendly and accommodating and are sure to take care of you. Not big on the gambling here, but came out for the comedy show that they started having in the lounge on the third floor. We weren't sure where to go but we happened to pick the right entrance because there was guest services. I picked up my tickets,shown to the elevators, we rode up to the lounge. The floor itself was spacious but the comedy show area was small. It had a stage, with a brick background similar to another famous comedy place here in Jax, and maybe 20 or so tables. The food and drink menu was pretty basic, with appetizer's and salads with beer and wine. We had already eaten so we just ordered drinks. The comedians are the same comedians that go to the venues on Phillips Highway and Beach Blvd so if you like one of them you have an opportunity to see them again in town. The show itself was great. We sat in the front so we got a lot of the high fives, fist bumps, and other responses from the comedians. For attending the show we each received a two dollar wooden nickel to play downstairs but we didn't use them as we aren't poker players or dog racing fans. Today I was there for the 10+ food trucks put on by Jax Truckies. Mike n Caron sure did a great job getting all the trucks to come this far out. Instant mashed potatoes with so much garlic ranch type seasoning, Brocolli so overcooked it was a mucky brown color, crab legs had no taste and the shrimp smelled rotten and were very slimy when peeled. The servers were nice but no knowledge of providing a good experience. We were greeted by the host scolding us for not making a reservation. Came to the racetrack to have dinner. Had not ever been there before to eat. Atmosphere of the racetrack is nice the racetrack part was fine. However my food experience was not as good. Specifically asked the waitress if the hamburgers were freshly made in the kitchen. I was told they were but when I got my burger Not only was it not medium like I had ordered but it was a 1/8 inch pre-made hamburger patty I could have gotten at a fast food restaurant. It was gray all the way through and completely cooked and tasted like a fast food Patty. The baked potato I got with my mail was the best part of my meal. My husband ordered the prime rib sandwich. Thinking of course that it would be the same prime rib that they have on special on the weekend with a side of eyes you. You just need to know what to expect. There are all types of folks here. From those that are probably betting their last dollar to those that are there just for fun. We are those there just for fun and we bet very little and watch the dogs. We know enough about this sport to be dangerous. Pretty colors or bathroom habits are more important than what they did in their last batch of races to us. I have visited Jacksonville around 20 times and have been to the track on at least half of those occasions. Go eat dinner somewhere and come here to watch a few races. Especially great when the weather is good which it was on this Saturday night. We got to watch the procession of dogs followed by Here's Rusty and followed by a great race of some incredible animals. I know some folks are not supportive of this but they don't have to go. I find it good fun and next time in town I will be there again. Just a darn good time. Bet or no bet. Went here as a last minute decision on a Friday night to eat because we heard they had great food, well we were very disappointed. First, the place is old and needs much updating along with a good cleaning, Second, the food selection was slim, typical salad bar with slim pickings, the shrimp was awful, tasted old, no steak knifes to cut the beef, the beef was ok nothing to write home about, ham was good but could have used some pineapple, Third the service, I waited for 45 minutes and still no refill and no server to be found. We had to find someone so we could get and pay the check, when asked how it was, I explained my disappointment especially about no service and how I would have to go somewhere else to get a simple glass of coke or water. Upon leaving I stopped at the bathroom upstairs to find only 2 stalls with one broke. I think this place needs a face-lift and menu revamp.
