A cold windy day at the beach calls for comfort food and what is more comforting than an open face hot turkey over stuffing covered in delicious gravy?! The amount of fresh pulled turkey was insane, so tender, juicy & flavorful & the stuffing tastes like my grandmother's. The meal includes 2 sides & either a salad or soup for only $12.99 and I had enough left over for a second meal. Hubby went with one of the lunch specials- a Turkey Reuben which he rates a B+. It was actually served open faced (wasn't listed that way) and there was way too much going on to eat it any other way - lots of melted cheese but he would have liked more sauerkraut. The fries were super crispy & some of the best he's had in a long time and the service was wonderful, I only wish I had gotten our server's name. I was also really happy to see French Dressing as an option, seems to be extinct in most restaurants these days and it bears mentioning that my side salad was super fresh with lots of veggies. We've driven past this place hundreds of times and I'm so glad we finally stopped. Much larger inside then I expected and the staff and management are going above & beyond following covid safety guidelines, there was even a bottle of sanitizer on each table. One last thing, they have this homemade hand scrub in the bathroom that is absolutely amazing, my hands have never felt softer, I would have purchased a jar but I didn't see any by the checkout area. My father, mother, and I decided to eat at Bethany diner for dinner while on vacation at Bethany Beach. We were interested in trying this place out for an inexpensive quick meal. When entering the diner, I noticed everything was clean ,but the atmosphere was lacking. The restaurant seemed to draw an older crowd with some families. To start, the service was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the 3 pancakes, eggs, and choice of meat off the breakfast menu. My parents decided on doing the $22 special which came with an appetizer, multiple sides, two main entrees, and two desserts. When the food arrived, we were all amazed by the massive portion sizes. There seemed like there was enough food for at least two meals each. My pancakes were very fluffy and tasted delicious. Additionally, the strawberries I ordered on top were super fresh. I got my eggs scrambled with peppers and they were also quite tasty. The Canadian bacon I ordered for my choice of meat was average along with the potato skins my parents got as their appetizer. My father wasn't impressed by the fried flounder. He said it tasted like it was probably frozen beforehand then fried ,but it wasn't bad either. My mother enjoyed the roasted turkey. She said everything was seasoned very well ,but maybe a little too salty for her taste. I used to like this place.. went for breakfast buffet and 2 for $22 dinners. And then I got the inside scoop about the kitchen. If you order bacon or sausage, the waitresses use bare hands to pick it out of a big pot. Same with making salads and even putting fruit in a cup... no gloves are used at all in the kitchen. If you order toast or a waffle, the servers pile them up on The shelf and let it sit until the grill food is done....everyone just grabbing for cold toast. read more

The Bethany Diner is the perfect place for a quick reasonably priced meal. The food quality is very good and service is fast and friendly. This place is packed for breakfast every weekend so the fact they only have a 3 1/2 star rating is surprising to me. I am a local and go here all the time. This evening for dinner, my dad and I ventured to the the Bethany Diner. Although he's a "regular," it was my first time there. Everything was absolutely excellent!! The place was very clean with an inviting decor and ambiance, the wait service was very friendly, the menu was "diner extensive" (with lots of comfort foods available), our entrees were delicious with very generous portions, and the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant was packed with customers, with what seemed to be a very "local" crowd-a very good sign! This is a friendly, make-you-feel-at-home place and we were in OCMD for 5 days and ate here a few. The little drive is worth it. The portions are huge and the prices aren't bad for a place at the shore. My chicken orzo soup was not too salty, lots of flavor. The tuna sub I had could have fed two people, I had the rest for lunch the next day. The chocolate cake is one of my husband's favorites...fudgey icing. Was very disappointed after seeing great reviews on google. When we arrived, we were met with a very unfriendly waitress that didn't introduce herself. We received a cracked coffee mug and flat soda which she admitted wasn't surprising once we asked for new drinks. We then waited too long for under seasoned home fries and overcooked bacon. I went to this restaurant for breakfast. Upon arriving and heading to our table, I noticed multiple drink spills and stains on the carpet. When I got to my table there was a paper with multiple advertisements on it, which made me very uncomfortable about this place. The smell isn't all that great either. I ordered a basic breakfast: Full stack of pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs. My choice of drink was orange juice which didn't seem fresh at all. I have only eaten here once and late in the season. It was very busy with a twenty minute wait. This was not a glamorous dinning venue but a typical diner with inexpensive furnishings, silverware, etc. as you would expect in a diner. My party of four had breakfast there and it was as expected, nothing more, nothing less. The service was a little slow but they were busy and it is a beach diner in DE after all. The portions and pricing were again, just what you would expect. They do have a shared parking lot but parking was not plentiful. Breakfast is the easiest meal for a restaurant to provide and therefore not a good measure of the establishment. I have definitely had bad breakfast experiences but they are rare. I am sure I will experience the Bethany Diner again for a better sampling ratio. read more

So this was my first time at the Bethany Diner and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food and overall experience was. The server was efficient and checked up on us throughout the meal. The food came out really quickly and everything was properly prepared. They provide huge portions and some of the cheapest prices I've seen in the area - and I eat out quite a bit when visiting the beach so that's saying something. The creamed chipped beef was quite good and the eggs were cooked properly. My girlfriend ordered the hot open-faced turkey special and really enjoyed her meal. The portions were so large that she took about half of it to go and we came in quite hungry after fishing and swimming all morning. I would definitely recommend coming here for breakfast or to grab a quick bite for lunch. Great value, very clean, nice ambience, and tasty food. After ordering two huge meals our bill was $20. What a steal! Side note: Some of the reviews I've read haven't been very flattering but my experience was completely contrary to what I've seen posted. Just my two cents. Diners are known for their daily specials. This place has theirs, but with one big exception. Four times now we have gone to find they were OUT OF THE SPECIAL. Were we getting there late at night? No, we arrived by 6:00 PM. Did they offer any type of accommodation - like maybe a free beverage or dessert? Nope. No food and no good service - not a good combination. So, Bethany Diner is off the list for us. You cannot count on their menu. The food is average (when you get it). Service has run the gamut from terrible to good. The manager, when there, promises it will be better, but tonight was the last straw for us. Even in the off-season there are plenty of choices where the restaurant is run properly and the management actually cares (FYI -no manager tonight). I recommend avoiding the Bethany Diner. You may luck out and get what you came for. However, you will soon be disappointed when they have once again run out of what you came for and at an early hour. Looking for comfort food we hit on the Bethany Diner. It was busy but we were seated immediately. Theresa, an excellent waitress, got our drink and appetizer orders. We we both hungry since it was around 7:30 PM and we'd not eaten since lunch so we ordered the appetizer sampler. After it arrived we realized we shouldn't have ordered entries. So much stuff! Huge chicken tenders, wings, mozzarella sticks and onion rings. So we boxed the tenders and proceeded to dinner. I got the prime rib special that included soup, 2 sides and dessert. Took home half of the meat and 2 sides and the dessert. Wife got meatloaf. 4 decent sized slices but slightly overdone. A woman working there, may have been a manager, insisted on giving a whole new order of meatloaf and she boxed the original order to go home. We ended up with 2 bags of leftovers. Well...it's just your typical diner. We went for breakfast and two of us had the buffet while another ordered eggs benedict (an eggs benedict enthusiast). The benny was apparently bland and a disappointment (more or less expected from a diner). The buffet which included potatoes, fruit, french toast, pancakes, sausage, ham, eggs, scrapple, biscuits, sausage gravy, and more, was not bad at all. Felt lethargic and had a bit of a stomach ache after because like I already said...it's your typical heavy, greasy diner food.
