Down here on vacation and since this place is close, we ordered dinner. We ordered two short stacks with bacon (add chocolate chips) and a crispy chicken wrap with no tomato or ranch and a side of Buffalo sauce and honey mustard with CRISPY fries. The owner took my order on the phone- no total- and said the order would be ready in 20 minutes. We walked in and the place was busy but our food was ready. The hostess gave me the total for my THREE items- $48.. I was beside myself. I asked to speak with the owner bc that sounded outrageous for 3 items ordered. I was informed that chocolate chips cost $4.99 per order of pancakes EXTRA (no mention on the menu, website, or when I placed the order). I informed the owner that I own a restaurant where I am from and understand making a profit but these charges were outrageous. He then said we should trade receipts and was very condescending as he tried to mansplain to me about running a business and costs, etc. He agreed to give me a "discount" of $4.99 with no other explanation besides that's just how I do things. Got home and saw I received (2) 2oz. Dressings that I was charged $2.50/pc for- price gauging at its finest. The fries were just shy of cooked, definitely not crispy like I ordered AND the $10 chocolate chip addition barely covered the tops of the pancakes- when cut into , no chocolate chips through the pancakes. Gross food, WAY OVER PRICED, and the overall vibe was meh (probably due to the way the owner talks down to people). Save your money, your time, your appetite, and find somewhere delicious to eat-- THIS PLACE IS NOT IT and I would advise everyone to AVOID at all costs! read more

If you are looking for really good, affordable food, for breakfast, lunch or dinner, stop looking. You will definitely find it here. And the portions will satisfy the biggest appetite! from the omelets and pancakes, etc., at breakfast, to the huge salads and sandwiches at lunch, to the international and down home comfort food dishes at dinner, you will always leave happy, full and probably toting a take home box, because you couldn't finish your meal! Based on our experience from last summer, decided to give Bethany Diner a try again. Ordered pick-up food from them on multiple occasions and went in for breakfast last Sunday. All I can tell, is that the food was delicious, well prepared, and they have great prices. The crab cake diner was amazing; crispy cover and super tasty crab meat inside. Also had the fried flounder wrap (not in the picture though; ate it right away); it was the best that I have tried so far; fresh and crispy. We'll definitely return back next summer. P.S. Food was easily 4.5 out of 5. But since Yelp does not allow half stars, and the ambiance is not 5 star, I had to give them 4. 2 of us ordered a special - beef stew over rice. It was very favorable, the plentiful cubes of beef were tender, veggies and potatoes added to a great dish. The other two diners had a large salad with a scoop of delicious egg salad on top. This diner has definitely become a new go-to for me. The food was spectacular, the service was nice and the whole vibe of the restaurant felt fun. When seeing the outside, the inside was nothing what I expected. It was huge! So much space and it's definitely a good, reliable place to take kids. The French onion soup was so good, not too sweet and not too salty. The bread under the cheese was perfectly drenched in the soup and the cheese pull was unlike any other! It came out hot so it stayed warm the whole time I ate it. The burger was so good and moist and they did not skim on the toppings! These are also the best fries I have had in a while. I'm not one for thick cut fries, but these were super crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The perfect fry! HOWEVER, I'm a stickler for the way a restaurants water tastes and this water did had an odd moldy taste to it? I'm not entirely sure if it was because of the tap or the cup but I wasn't a fan and I hate not having good water to drink with my food. Overall though I would give this place 4 stars. read more

We got food delivered through doordash. It was pretty good! Never had it before. Decently priced. I got a cheesesteak with a soup side. Cheesesteak was pretty good, I like how the bread is crispy and the cheese was melted onto it. Meat could've used a little seasoning, it was a bit bland when I tried it on its own, just my preference though! Also the soup (chicken noodle) was a little bland, and the noodles were a little too soft. Again, just my opinion! Otherwise, everything else was good! read more

Location: The decor was different than you would expect from a normal diner. As far as traditional layout goes, also different not good nor bad. You could tell they had done some updating with lighting, some partitions and the restroom was probably one of the nicest bathrooms I've seen in a diner. The rest of the decor was sort of bland and not really 100% fitting of a diner theme. I spent many a late night and early morning getting off shifts going to diners; so I have a love for diners so I'm all about the feel; this one didn't hit me the same way. I will say this, this was one of the only restaurants out of the handful we visited in Bethany that had hand sanitizer available although their staff didn't wear masks or gloves. Just because of this and their cleanliness of their restrooms, I'm at a 3.5 instead of 2-3 rating for location. Service: We were seated almost immediately. Our waitress was new at the job so had to go back to ask questions, but super friendly and attentive. I am giving a 4/5. Food: We went for a quick dinner since we had mini golf plans, so we didn't get any alcoholic drinks or anything out of the ordinary. Out of 7 meals ordered, we had 5 different dishes to try. The fish and chips were good, my kids finished their entire portions which has not always been typical for that dish. My MIL did not like her Pastrami sandwich, my FIL did like his cheesesteak, my SIL and BIL enjoyed their meals decently enough. They were out of almost all desserts on the menu. You MUST eat here. Popped in for Sunday breakfast and it was packed. Fortunately there were seats at the counter,so we avoided the twenty minute wait. I had eggs over easy, corned beef hash and rye toast. The meal came with hash browns (shredded the only way to go) and they're-reason enough to dine here. All in all the food was delicious and plentiful. The ambiance is classic diner the staff hustles their butts off. Special shout out to Kelly who took care of us like we were family. Bethany is a town of itself in the summer, with tourists, tourists, and more tourists. As I drove past a Bethany Diner that had a small parking lot, filled spaces, I thought, I probably know I am going to wait but have to try it. Nothing fancy captures you as you are driving by, but when you walk in, the space expands to a small hall full of people. Lines as I expected, I was able to immediately get inside with taking a stool at the bar, and it worked out perfect. Seeing an 8.99 buffet that had anything, everything, you would want - French toast, eggs (made anyway you want) biscuits, sausage gravy (2 kinds), bacon, pancakes, sausage, hashbrowns and even though I am forgetting items) this was the best selection for a breakfast buffet that counts the freshness in as well. The service is fast, quick, courteous, individuals from all over the world working the summer here, locals, and seeing the mix of tourists and local residents, local and visiting conversations, the diner is what you would want in a diner. In less than 30 minutes, full breakfast and only one trip to the buffet needed, and lines still growing, the Bethany Diner serves to please. I'm so sad to write this bc I had a great meal just last week! I ordered a Reuban with ham instead of corned beef and to use Any Bread EXCEPT rye. I also ordered bread pudding a salad and chicken fingers and coffee. The only thing edible was the coffee Here's is why.... --The Reuben had corned beef -Not the ham and n xtra sauce I paid for. --The bread pudding was mostly mush and what looks like soggy croutons. It's nothing like I've ever had from there before --I did not get my salad -- the chicken fingers tasted like fish and had gristle like the generic kind you find at the DG. What happened? I just had a great meal Tuesday! I tried calling but was hung up on then no one answered. I'm really sad bc I don't cook and just moved here permanently thinking I had at least one place for food I could always count on. Very very disappointed bc not only did I waste $38.... on food I will toss, I now have to spend more to order a replacement dinner for my daughter and myself. The breakfast was very good but the coffee was weak. I had a waffle with just strawberries on it. The strawberries were perfect and very flavorful. Syrup would have ruined it. Thumbs up on the waffle/strawberry combo. My husband had and omelette and grits. He gave the omlette high marks but suspected the grits were instant. His toast, which I don't usually eat toast, looked appealing so I had a piece. It was made from a better than expected kind of bread. We appreciated the attentive and professional service. We felt welcomed and well taken care of. As it was almost 10:00 am on a Saturday, there was a wait for a table but not too long. We felt the prices were reasonable when considering the diner is at the beach. If we come back to Bethany Beach and want a everyday breakfast, we will come back here. We saw several people leave with bakery items to go, so I'm guessing they have a reputation for their desserts. read more

We stopped in our New Years weekend for a quick breakfast. No lines this time of year which is nice. The atmosphere is a nice diner vibe. Staff was efficient and friendly. I had one pancake, scrambled eggs, sausage link with rye toast. All hot and tasty. Though scrambled eggs are simple, these were some of the fluffiest I've had and very good. I'm not a fan of a fat sausage link but it was good. Next time I'll ask for patties if offered. Pancake was hot with the usual melting butter on top. Yum. The rye toast was crisp and so yummy. My husband enjoyed his breakfast as well. Wheat toast, bacon, scrambled eggs and potatoes which were a diced redskin potato. He thought they were good but he prefers a crispier hash brown type potato. The coffee was excellent. I highly recommend and will definitely return before the summer crowds return. read more

We make a stop at Bethany Diner just about every time we're in town visiting family, and we always walk out satisfied. What you're not going to find here: any kind of fancy, "artisanal" takes on breakfast, bird food for health nuts, etc. What you ARE going to find here: good, solid breakfast food - hearty, well-made omelets, fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, etc. - served promptly, with a smile, and at a reasonable price. This is your quintessential diner breakfast. There's also a breakfast buffet on Sundays (which my family loves), but I recommend you stick with a fresh-cooked meal. During the summer months, the wait here can get pretty long with the Bethany tourist crowd, but you're usually good to walk in and get seated right away during the rest of the year. If you do have a wait, put your name in and walk 100 yards to Drifting Grounds in the next plaza over - a truly great coffee shop that I can't recommend enough. read more

Nice little spot on the side of the road that hides its big servings and great choices behind two little doors. Right away you get a neighborhood vibe, with friendly staff and full tables of happy families and friends eating delicious foods. My family went for breakfast and man we were glad we went with empty stomachs. Great diner style menu with heaping portions and strong hot coffee. Sadly it is one of those places that charges per order of juice, so be prepared for that cost, OJ is like gold these days. Regardless of the capitalistic tendencies of the juice industry, the meal was awesome. Our waitress was quick with our orders even with a full house and was a great help when we added more items after exploring all that was the wonderful menu. Used to be good, not so much anymore. I wanted home fries with my breakfast and was repeatedly told by a really loud young woman that they only had hash browns and not home fries "for 2 years." Home fries are on their most recently printed menu. She was very rude. And of course the prices have gone through the roof and the food quality has gone down. Standard diner, nothing special but worth a go if you want to keep it simple. I came in on a Saturday night and the place was rather busy. A lot of grey hairs running around enjoying their evenings. Place is a good size, bright lights and with a TV over the bar area. Staff is friendly, everyone was welcoming and attentive. One of the owners was working the register and he appeared to be a nice guy. Food was okay, I went with a steak and it was what I expected, no grade A meat but it got the job done and was cooked well. Mashed potatoes were fluffy and feeling and broccoli while a bit under-cooked was tasty. They serve all day breakfast so that is always a bonus.
