We've been coming here for years, and it's a place our family looks forward to visiting every year. The food is always delicious, and there are so many great options to choose from. Some of my favorites are the homemade creamed chipped beef, which is excellent on either biscuits or toast. I also love Joey's French Toast with peanut butter and banana--it's always a treat. The kids we had with us they order the pancakes and enjoy them. If we're not very hungry in the morning, we'll often stop in for one of their fresh pastries instead. The glazed donuts, danishes, muffins, and cinnamon rolls are all fantastic. This place has such a warm, family-friendly atmosphere and is a great spot to bring kids. My last review was a very good one however this one will not be. We have been regulars here for 20+yrs. We have had a series of events that have left us very disappointed. Two weeks ago my husband came in and was seated at a back corner table and he received horrible service. Three times he had to get up to ask for service. Last week we were turned away twice because we wanted to sit at the counter which is where we always sit. It was early in the morning shortly after they had opened so there was plenty of seating. The server behind the counter literally had a meltdown and said she couldn't handle things and we could not be seated at the counter. Also last Thursday evening we tried to order takeout for dinner. We called several times and no one answered the phone. These experiences have left us with no other choice but to find a new favorite breakfast spot. The service was great considering only one server and it started getting busy. Brought Mom to have some breakfast. She ordered the chipped beef over biscuits ( yeah toast is better). She enjoyed it and even had some to bring home to have another small breakfast. I had the breakfast special of country fried steak with sausage gravy a biscuit and home fries and a really delish cup of coffee.Yummy!. We grabbed some half price donuts on the way out. Recommend for breakfast. I think as another recent review mentioned, they seemed a tad short staffed when we went but service was still fine. Food was very good and portions generous. It had the atmosphere of a diner with a family restaurant look. What I especially appreciated is that they were very patient with my kids, who got fussy at times from sitting down (as kids do), and also who roamed for a little while. While out and about decided to get some breakfast. Been living nearby for almost 3 years and never been here! It reminded me of an old school local NJ Diner. Prices were reasonable for the portion size. I had the Western Omelet with cheddar cheese, home fries (other option is grits) and toast. The Omelet was huge! I couldn't even finish it. It was loaded with meat, onions, pepper and cheese. Absolutely delicious. The home fries were very tasty but a bit greasy. Atmosphere was pleasant. Clean. The service was amazing! OK, let me start with this places even below mediocre. The service was really really long and the food as you could tell by the picture was not very good. They were liquid eggs canola oil tasted like on the potatoes and they had the TVs blaring with FOX news, businesses that serve the public should keep the politics to themselves. If you are looking for a casual, good old fashioned diner breakfast, this is a good place. Coffee is hot, regularly topped off and included in your breakfast (something that is pretty novel these days!) It's a diner, so for me, the eggs are always under spiced (just a little salt and pepper, that is all I am asking for!) But their waffles looked gorgeous, piled with fresh fruit so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Homefries were meh... and their fans could use a good cleaning - I mean don't look up and hopefully they don't turn them on... but staff were friendly and chatty and you sort of feel like you belong with the locals in here Anyway... this review is for that pastry case - seriously best donuts and pastries IN.THE.AREA - and get there early because they sell out fast! read more

This restaurant is kind of a staple for us at the beach. Always great food, great service. Our waitress was one of the best. They also seem to have a lot of staff helping clear the tables and bring drinks out. Everything was fast, efficient, and helpful. We also like the diner feel with the televisions, counter, and cute down home decorations. Only place we went to where we didn't even have to wait for a table. Food was great. I woke up looking for biscuits 'n gravy, found them! Scratch baked biscuits, BIG, FLUFFY, and AWSOME. Gravy is loaded with sausage with a delicious peppery flavor. on a scale of 1 - 10 they go up to 11. Buttermilk pancakes and Belgian waffles are great. If you are at the MD/DE beaches, start your day at Dirty Harry's. It was the bright spot on a drizzling gray day. The staff is so polite, Christina was the sweetest. She is so kind, makes you feel like a regular, even the pastry chef carrying a fresh tray of goodies walking past, said 'good morning, your food will be right out' and it was, delicious and hot, not warm, but hot. The atmosphere is homey, not pretentious just really comfortable, not like a big place trying to be what it isn't, but a place where you expect Aunt Bea to step out of the back homey. Had breakfast with 4 friends. The service from Tricia was outstanding, she was unflappable despite our, how should I say, our overwhelmingly friendly nature. Darryl, one of the family of the owners stopped to answer our buddy's litany of curious musings! He then dropped of a free plate of mini poptart like pastries for us to try! Yum and TY! The blueberry muffin I got was chock full of blueberries, buttery and sugar-kissed. Everyone raved about their breakfast and the sausage was an especially big hit! Just the worst! Food took 45 minutes to come out, the chicken looked pink and the fries looked like they took it off someone else's plate. I never got the ketchup but it didn't matter, I left without eating any food. I paid, tipped the waitress well. The worst of it was the whole time I was there, creepy old men sat at the counter and turned to look at me directly. Just stared at me! I did my best to ignore them. What a breakfast place should be, nothing fancy, just great service and good food. Everything we had was homemade and the price was in line with what you would expect, maybe a little better if I may say so. We had an omelette made with three eggs, onions and mushrooms with a side of home fries and scrambled eggs, home fries and a biscuit with two drinks for $19. Stopped by Saturday, June 8 and was seated as soon as we walked in. I mention the date because it's not likely to be as uncrowded the rest of the summer. The wait staff was friendly, courteous, and attentive. Menu choices were good and you need to pay attention to the chalkboard at the end of the counter for specials. Biscuits were hot and fresh. Wife loved that coffee; I would have preferred stronger but that's not a bad thing. Pancakes were fluffy and tender. Eggs over medium were done as requested. Portions were generous. All their prices are, somehow, rounded to the nearest dollar. I think it's because of the lack of sales tax in Delaware. I'd be surprised if you aren't impressed. read more

We are so happy that we tried Dirty Harry's! It's conveniently located off Route 1 in Fenwick Island. It was open on the day of a snowstorm, and that was great for us! Their breakfast choices are plentiful. We had omelettes--a cheesesteak omelette and the crab omelette. The homefries are great, and so are th homemade (warm) biscuits! Dirty Harry's has a friendly staff and a hometown diner feel. We didn't have a chance to try the baked goods--but they look FANTASTIC!! Check it out. You won't be disappointed! read more

Was greeted at the host stand by an old grouchy lady that stated I couldn't bring any pets into the place. We have a small parrot that was in a carrier. I guess that's the policy so we decided to ask for a takeout order and I sat with the bird by the front door. I was then asked to leave and sit outside by a different old, grouchy lady. No problem, I've been 86'd out of better establishments. So I'm noticing many other folks going in and getting their takeouts before us so I'm guessing the entire establishment of grouchy, old ladies were on the rag but then realized they probably don't have that issue anymore since they were all classic model women. Soooo, we finally get our breakfast order and took it back to our hotel next door. Food wasn't that great at all. For a place that prides themselves on being a quality diner, we were not impressed. Needless to say, we won't ever go back there again as Dirty Harry did not 'make my day'. I have NEVER given a review like this but needed others to be aware!! This experience was all around dreadful! We were greeted by a lady in a Halloween witch costume ... thinking WooHoo this is going to be great! The counter area was decorated too! UNFORTUNATELY it was NOT that kind of experience! First the coffee was very weak ... I noticed it looking transparent as she poured! After 20 minutes she took our order ... I ordered eggs Benedict and my husband ordered "garbage omelet" ... lol kind of an everything omelet .. after 30 minutes in and looking around she walked by to say your food is coming! It was exactly ONE HOUR until our food was served!!! No explanation just brought it out! The eggs Benedict were tasteless, watery and unappetizing! (I wish I would have taken pictures!) The hash browns were cold! My husband's omelet was just ok... his grits also tasteless! I asked for the check right away! Another 15 minutes went by but no check! So I layed $40 on the table and said we needed to leave! Needless to say we were so sad with our experience at this restaurant!!! Was told they were out of fruit but somehow the table next to us managed to order pancakes with bananas on them? We came here because Jimmy's was packed. We wanted to like this place, but it was a huge disappointment. We waited far longer than I had patience for to get our food, and then it came out cold. I watched people who came in after us get served before us, which is always aggravating. And our cold food was not tasty at all. The home fries were just sliced potatoes with no taste. The "Garbage" omelet ... well, I guess the name fit pretty well. It tasted sweet, probably from the peppers, and was not appetizing at all. We were inside this place for 90 minutes, mostly sitting around waiting, and then not enjoying our food. I would never go back, and encourage you not to go here either. read more

Great breakfast, just get there early. I had the corned beef hash with eggs. Hard to go wrong! A couple of weeks back, on the advice of a friend, I ordered a coconut cake ($30) and picked it up two days later. OMG! It was huge and truly awesome! Since I live alone it took me almost two weeks to finish it, but finish it I did. Just ask them what cakes they have, and they will make one for you too. Apparently they also have slices, but I've never seen any in the case. In short, an awesome place with a name that sounds like a bar, but is in fact a great breakfast place and bakery. Fox News usually plays in the background and customers complain about the Democrats. Quite entertaining.
