Cute little place with good folks. But a small bowl of Mac & cheese and a kids PB&J don't cost $8 each, and for $11 a sandwich should have more than two slices of turkey. The quiche took forever and was a small, cold slice. Cape prices sure but jeez. read more

Still the quaint bakery it has always been, but recently went in for our favorite raspberry scones. It seems the recipe has changed, they were horrible. Adorable place with delicious food and coffee. My bf and I came here for breakfast everyday we were in Sandwich. As a vegan, I was pleased that they had almond milk! I had the Boardwalk Beach blend coffee with hazelnut syrup and almond milk, the oatmeal, and different bagels with peanut butter. Try the cranberry-orange bagels! My non-vegan bf had a scrambled egg wrap and different versions of the stuffed French toast, all of which he loved. The staff were very friendly and attentive, which made this place special. We'll definitely be back when on the Cape! read more

"Today's scone is strawberry white chocolate." Yum! When you hear that, it's time to get in line at Beth's. I am a fan of really good scones, and they make great ones here. Try them warmed with cream and jam (it's optional and unnecessary, but I recommend.) On a recent visit, I saw a happy woman with a VERY LARGE piece of chocolate layer cake with white icing. She was sitting outside on the patio, quietly having a business meeting on her cell phone. Really, if you have to work on a gorgeous spring afternoon, does it get any better? The cafe has a Barefoot Contessa feel, light and charming inside with simple, beautiful food. (In my humble opinion their website doesn't really capture the clean, cottage vibe of the building.) This is the kind of place you can bring your friends or your mom, but it's not fussy and geriatric like the Dunbar Tea Room. And it has way more yummy lunch and bakery stuff than the Brown Jug. Beth's has a nice lunch menu with soups, sandwiches, quiche, salads, (great panini) etc. They have all kinds of really good bakery items and treats and all kinds of tea, of course. They may have breakfast but I've never been. For some unknown reason it seems to attract a lot of young, cool European families on holiday. I'm not sure why. Maybe French yelp? I really do like this place. One more thing, Jarvis Street can be a joke to park on when it's busy, so you should know that they have a parking lot behind the building. read more

Oh my...this place is sinful in the best way possible. I don't think I've had a better lemon bar. It was tart without being too sour w/ a balance of sweetness. The crust was simply to die for. It really made the bar stand out from previous lemon bars I have had. The chocolate cake was delicious as well and the bread pudding! Goodness gracious. The caramel sauce it came with is simply amazing! It's places like this that would make moving out of the city much easier. Beth's Special Teas is simply delightful in every way. Walked in and immediately felt welcomed. The display case was beautiful. Making a decision was difficult. My seemingly interminable search for a real cream bun is finally over! I've traveled everywhere in the states and been assured they had 'real' cream but been disappointed with 'mock' cream instead! This is definitely what comes to mind when I think about a picturesque New England town and a small family-run café. The café is airy, naturally lit, and just very comfortable to sit in. I tried their cranberry turkey sandwich and also the asiago bagel. The bagel was fairly average but the cream cheese was really nice. The cranberry turkey sandwich was very delicious -- it was served on marbled rye (as per our order) and it had a great balance of sweet and savory and also an ideal variety of textures. I would have loved to try one of the many desserts they offered, though I didn't end up having the space leftover to. The only glitch about the meal was that another table ordered the same sandwich but on a different bread and our orders were accidentally mixed up. They were great about resolving the issue but I was surprised that the mix-up even happened. (Also, I guess the fact that the wifi didn't work was also a bit of a letdown.) read more

Super cute little bakery/cafe in Sandwich. I had a tuna melt, and my husband had a cup of lobster bisque. We both thought the food was good; maybe my sandwich could have been a touch saltier, maybe his soup a bit hotter, but we both enjoyed our meals. The array of baked goods was gorgeous, and I'm sad we didn't get a chance to come back and try anything. The ladies who work here were very welcoming and friendly. Service is a plus, at least the human relationship piece of it. We ate our food on the front porch, where we got to do a little people watching and enjoy beautiful late spring weather. Very unique and nice place to have breakfast/lunch. A converted old house in sandwich turned into a cafe, with great outdoor tables and inside space. Lots of old pics of the town before our time hanging on the white walls, flowers on the tables, just gives you a taste of the local flavor in every aspect: food, decors, pictures, flowers, antiques.. loved their decor! Great bakery restaurant. 7 layer bar was excellent, a tad dry, but excellent. Chocolate Chip cookie was small, but tasty. Chocolate chip cream cheese bar was moist and delicious. Macaroon was a tad dry too and lacked flavor. I prefer them a little crunchy from the carmelization. Cute place in an old home. Great looking menu. Friendly workers. Good drink menu. This place needs to get off the tea specialty shops lists - especially under the category of "serves a full afternoon tea". They do not service a full tea, but you can request it. For $17 after tax and tip they give you one medium cup of tea, one scone, three little tea sandwiches (one of each kind, when most places give you two), and three different kinds of sweets. No tiers - the tea sites say they give you tiers, but that's all you get on paper plates. Also what's up with not giving us an entire pot of tea? Definitely feeling gipped on this one. As a cafe, this place is wonderful. The food was quite tasty, but they lost points for false advertising. I mean if H-Ro and I had known that we would've gone to the actual tea place up the street, for less. read more

We love Beth's Bakery. Always great service and consistent food. But this review is more about service and composure than the wonderful cake we enjoyed this weekend. I sent my son and his girlfriend in to pick up the cake. While there they witnessed the staff being harassed and harangued by two aggressive customers. The first was a woman who had to be told multiple times she could not be behind the counter as she complained she was, "starving" as she tried to get into the kitchen. Twenty minutes she complained was "too long". Every table was taken, the line at the counter 8 deep. They were busy. The next person ordered the "special drink of the day". It was nearing closing time and the girl behind the counter told the customer they had just run out. The angry customer chastised the young lady for not being prepared then with great exasperation ordered something else. When my son got up to the counter, he made mention of how rude people were. He was told that pretty much summed up the entire day. I give the staff tremendous credit for maintaining their composure. It can't be easy. We've always received service with a smile at Beth's. But they shouldn't have to offer it through clenched teeth while being treated so rudely. read more

Yummy tea! I had the Bangkok green tea and it was served in a sweet glass tea kettle. My husband and I shared a huge piece of moist chocolate coconut cake and it was amazing. They used a lot of frosting which I like but I had to pace myself so to not sweet myself out too much. The coconut topping was a nice touch. The ladies at the counter knew so much about the teas. This is a quaint neighborhood bakery/restaurant and I stop by when doing business in Sandwich. My last two visits were disappointing. In the first instance, I purchased eclairs to go -they were stale. Yesterday, a friend and I stopped by for pastry and a small coffee for each of us. My friend ordered a scone, I paid and took my pastry and coffee to our table while my friend's scone was being warmed. When she received it and asked for jam, the employee behind the counter told my friend she should have asked for the jam when she ordered because there was an extra charge for it! My friend offered to pay but the not-particularly-pleasant woman said she could not open the register just for that. Who serves scones without clotted cream or jam? The bill was $13.75. I should have removed my tip (why a tip jar for counter service?) and given it to her for the jam. Next time, we'll go to The Chew up the road. read more
