The remote never worked consistently and the pilot light eventually stopped working as well. First my husband went to the showroom and the staff person was very accommodating and scheduled a service call. (We appreciated this approach, as opposed to trying to sell us a whole new unit, for thousands of dollars.) The technician came as scheduled. He was so knowledgeable and skilled that he was able to repair our unit, explain to us how to maintain it and give us general safety and operation tips within an hour. He was also polite and personable. We felt the charge was a good value and will schedule a return visit in two or three years.

Two great installers for my new gas fireplace insert with blower. They were very professional and even left my house cleaner than when they arrived! Showed me how to use the thermostat remote and stayed around while the fireplace was running to be sure everything was working correctly. Only grabbed two names (Brian and Bill) so can't give a shout out to all four people - but thank you to ALL. This is another local company that is well worth checking out - prices were significantly better that other local competitors and the product I selected is top rated. So happy with all the decisions I made in this process.

It was right sized both for my small fireplace and for whole house heating. After burning wood to heat the house for many years I was surprised by the learning curve. The old stove was so called air tight (it wasn't). The new stove truly is... After I learned how to use it I must say it does the job and it looks good! The spring of 2023 Matchless came back and completed chimney repairs. Everything they have done has been exactly as it was supposed to be done. The technicians were courteous and professional.

I am conflicted. A very nice fellow came to do my service. It was clear, at the end of his day,…read morethat he wanted it over. It was the quickest service that I have had in the past five years with Matchless. I did the math and I paid $17 a minute. At 1:15, having arranged my day around this maintenance, I called to confirm (again) that I had the correct day. I (again) experienced a dour call manager, who needs to go to charm school. She made it clear that i was inconveniencing her and that my call was an irritation. Yes, the appointment was confirmed for today and the call was scheduled between 1 and 4, but because the technician was dealing with a lengthy service it would be closer to 4 (got it; that might have been nice to know rather than keeping a customer -- a 5 year customer-- waiting and needing to call to get this update.) I did the math immediately after he left: Again I paid $17 a MINUTE for the time the fellow was here. Again, he was very nice, and he was tolerant of my (exceedingly friendly) dog. Do I feel I received thorough service? Absolutely not. I have been here for 3 of the previous services (my wife was here for one) and they were far more lengthy and I was asked to review the work afterwards (this time I asked to see a demonstration that all was working) The technician did explain the state of the unit and the likelihood of its continued use. During and after the visit I began to consider whether there were viable options. I started to compare this to a lengthy visit (and considerably less expensive) from the very high quality local firm that services my AC and furnace. (And, they are LOVELY on the phone) Matchless is know (or has been) for superb service. I don't know whether a viable, consistent option exists. I have previously felt the huge charge was worth the investment and assurance I have received from a local company. Now I feel that I need to explore other options.

Most recently, a guy came with a drone and spent most of his time taking drone pictures of our chimney, and then gave us a real scare story about all the work we needed, at tens of thousands of dollars. We then went up onto the roof and took a close look. The flashing and caulking he said needed redoing was in perfect shape. The cement caps on the chimneys were solid and not crumbling as he claimed. The pointing was still solid after the most recent re-pointing. If he thought things were so bad from the drone pictures, he should have gone up on the roof himself to double check. The real problem though is that now we can't take his word for anything about the whole fireplace system, so we will need to go elsewhere in the future.

The sales guy at Best Fire tried to rip me off to the tune of $1,500, so a decision was quickly made to never go there again, and it was narrowed down to Northeastern vs Matchless. I would compare it as Mercedes vs Subaru. If you have an extra couple thousand to burn, go with Matchless, you will not be disappointed. If you are cost conscious, go with Northeastern, you will not be disappointed. I ended up buying my grill from Matchless and both of my inserts from Northeastern.

I received service quotations promptly, notification upon deposit receipt and quick turnaround for the install. Technicians were personable, professional and transparent about what would need longer term solutions. Inspection of my chimney and removal of the non-working gas fireplace revealed some structural issues that would have made full restoration to a working fireplace difficult, expensive and ultimately less efficient than a fireplace insert. I went with the Regency insert, which while smaller than I expected has turned out to be efficient and enjoyable. While an expensive choice, I'm thrilled to have a working fireplace again, and the ability to use it for a heat source as necessary.

May 22nd 2026 we had a home inspector come and do a detailed inspection for an unrelated circumstance and at that time we weren't aware of any issues. Once we received the official report and photos from the home inspection, it seemed familiar to me. So I pulled the chimney inspection and looked at them side by side. It was alarmingly clear that the home inspectors STRONG suggestion to obtain necessary repairs from a licensed contractor for EXACTLY what this company claimed to have already repaired months prior. Ultimately, no repairs were ever done and both inspection photos looked exactly the same which would indicate that this company allowed our chimney to remain out of code, an active safety and fire hazard and we used this trusting that it was now in working order. I provided them with the documentation and request that they refund the work they never did. It's been over 2 weeks now and I still have yet to be acknowledged which I presumed is what they'd do since the alternative would be to take accountability and at the very least apologize for the unsafe conditions they put my family as risk for and rightfully return our $5800.76 back to us. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and have been instead given lack of professionalism.

After collecting $250 for the service call, we were told he had other calls to go on and could not stay for a half hour 45 minutes to see if the fire place would stay lit after he secured the glass to some latches, saying maybe it was because of a air leak. When we called to let him know the fireplace still was not staying lit. He said it was probably the valve. Never bothered coming back to investigate further. Just said they no longer make Lenox Valves. The problem was the fireplace sensors connections just needed a good cleaning. A year or so ago we learned it was because the unit they sold us was WAY too large for the space, so the fires we were burning were not hot enough to keep the glass relatively free of soot. We called and told them, suggesting they might swap ours out for a similarly valued used one the correct size, but they didn't respond. A few months later our follow up email received the same silence. We ended up buying fire bricks to fill enough space in it to allow us to burn smaller, hotter fires without overheating the room. It helped, but we still have to do more glass cleaning than we should and ended up spending more money on the larger unit than we needed to. Note: I will update this review if and when they make an effort to help us out.
