Isn't it reasonable to expect when you take an item to alteration the garment will be returned in the same condition, except for the requested alterations? Unfortunately, this is not the case. I brought in a brand new, never worn, long gown that needed to be hemmed. The gown was left protected in a garment bag. One week later I called, asking if the gown was ready to be picked up. The person on the phone asked me several times my name, what does my dress look like. After telling her several times, she said she cannot find it and will call me back. I had to finally call when I didn't hear back from them. They said they found it and they were too busy to call me back. I went to pick up the gown and they gave it to me without my garment bag and the gown was all wrinkled. I find that there was a very noticeable snag in the material in the front of the gown. Also, the front bottom of the gown had two large grease spots about 2-3" wide. I asked the owner, Silvia about the snag and the grease spots. She said "accidents happen" and that she will fix it, no apologies ever given. Hmmm, "accidents happen?" Two days later I came back to pick up the gown. The snag and the grease spots were fixed. I said to Silvia that I was very disappointed that this happened to my gown, and I trusted them to treat my garment with care. She started to tell me that the grease spots have been there awhile. Hmmm, the dress was brand new, no stains or snags when I brought it in. As there have been so many good Yelps, unfortunately, they are taking on way too many garments and not being careful with them. The place is very chaotic and disorganized. As I was waiting, I saw the garments that customers brought in were set aside and piled on top of one another. There was no organized manner how they stored the garments. My gown was probably treated the same way and that's probably how the material got snagged. This is definitely not the place to bring garments that you care about! It is just too risky to leave it in their care! read more

Chaotic. And Silvia doesn't care. Who would have thought going to the tailors would be chaotic. I had high hopes...I wanted a local service...so I came to yelp which led me to Better Fit Alterations. I will not assume they are nice. What they are is chaotic and you can see it when you look inside. Dropping off I was slightly concerned when another customer was mildy upset at not being able to find their clothes - but the yelp reviews were good so I stayed. I had 7 maxis (same style) that I needed shortened, dropped off May 25, suppose to pick up June 4. I come in June 6 and one dress cannot be found - though we can find the leftover fabric. I finally had to leave. She did call back quite quickly - they just finished it for me so it was ready now. Wow - thanks. Silvia just watches in the background as her customers deal with her chaotic shop and someone at the register who doesn't seem to know how things work. My review for Silvia is long over due! She is amazing. I have been going to Silvia for over a year now. She has altered my Indian clothes, my dress shirts, dress pants, and regular pants. She is highly recommended. Silvia manages to slim fit all of my clothes and makes them fit/look great. Her prices are the cheapest and the quality is the highest. Most recently, I had her taper and slim down two of my older suit pants. She did it with ease and now my older suits are back in style. She does a great job with all of my Indian clothes(Kurtas) as well. No matter how delicate the fabric, Silvia has made it work and they fit great. POOR QUALITY! BAD ATTITUDE! They did not start the work on my wool coat the date that was due for pickup, and have me waited more than 30 minutes when she told me just takes a few minutes to finish. Clearly they rush the work, and I was shocked at the end result! The sleeve buttons are misaligned and puncture through the liner. If you don't care about quality she will be nice to you, but if you ever question about the work she does she will be very impatient and stare at you and tell you repeatedly she knows what she is doing. I hear her talk to other customers and tells them how she runs her business. Instead of overcharging then giving a few bucks back. She just gives prices she knows are lower and doesn't play games. While she was working with another customer, she was efficient about handling me as well. She knew I had to try on my pants to get hemmed so she asked me to try them on while helping the other customer. Silvia is great and so eager to please all of your tailoring needs! I came here with a lace formal gown to be shortened for a wedding -- I'm glad I did. She did an incredible job and tried to return the dress to me sooner than I needed. I decided on the day I was set to initially pick up the dress to bring 2 additional work suit jackets for tailoring as well. She gladly took those and told me to come back in a few more days. I can't say enough nice things about her -- but have this warning to give anyone coming: she may offer same-day turnaround but that does not mean you are her ONLY customer. Silvia does by far the best alterations (and repair) services I have had in OC or LA. For me there are three main criteria that I use to evaluate a tailor: Quality (A+) I brought in 3 pairs of high end raw denim selvage jeans, some of which were pretty heavy weight. Two of them needed patches in the knees and one required tapering from the knee down. I have never had a tailor (except denim specialists that have exorbitant costs) that respect the selvage and accurately matches the stitch on the inseam. In fact, I did not believe Silvia when she first told me that the alteration was done. It looked exactly the same inside and out. Price (A+) Extremely affordable. Prices were about half what I have paid for inferior services in the area. $4 for a high quality patch in jeans. I have paid over $15 a patch elsewhere. The perfect tapering was also less than I am used to paying. English competency / Service (A+) Silvia has perfect English. I could explain exactly what I wanted, including subtleties and nuances. If she keeps up her service at the current level of quality, price, and service, I'm confident that she can grow this business much beyond her current scale. read more

I live in the Tustin area & used to go to Make It Fit because they're close by but their prices are SUPER high and they're usually rather crowded. Also, their work used to be good but now it's just so-so. I'm VERY happy I found Better Fit via a customer review. I rarely leave reviews but wanted to leave one for this engagement. This was my first time doing business with this establishment. I dropped off two very expensive pairs of jeans for hem adjustments at BFA with the hem lines pre-designated. For one jean I asked to keep the original hem and the other I requested a normal hem alteration. I picked the jeans up a week later. Hands down the best alterations I've ever paid for. The original hem was done flawlessly. It's indistinguishable. The simple hem as well - done impeccably. The gauge and color of the thread for both alterations was spot on. Sylvia even showed them to me when I dropped them off before doing any work. She even went a step further and showed me other jeans hems she'd recently completed that were awaiting pickup. After weeks of searching for a tailor around Tustin/Irvine area that does quality work and reasonably priced (because paying over $200 for my bridesmaid dress, these tailors around the area that I've researched on that charges $40 to $80+ for simple alterations are ridiculous), I am glad that my neighbor referred me to Better Alterations! I wad referred a week before my sister's wedding and I went in right away. Given that the time that I needed the dress (and my son's suit) was pretty tight, I prayed that they'll take me in. I am happy to say that they indeed took my dress and my son's suit and had it ready a day before the wedding! Sylvia was so sweet, understanding, and accommodating to me and my toddler. She took her time in ensuring that the method of tailoring she expressed to me fit my needs and also making sure the outfits I took in fit me and my son well. I also saw her interact with other customers who are just as picky as I am and, let me tell you, Sylvia's patience level is ridiculously high, she could probably be a therapist. Can we just take the time to admire the FAIR and REASONABLE prices for their services? Inside an international supermarket in the Tustin Marketplace by the check out lines. A little awkward in its location. The market smells like curry. There's a small curtained area to try on your dress so the tailor can pin your clothes. She had to pin a good six inches off the bottom for me and an inch to tighten the top. I'm flying out of the country to be a bridesmaid in a destination wedding in a few days. I literally waited until the VERY last minute, the afternoon before Easter to have my dress altered! The lady was so sweet and she said she will have it done in a couple hours bc she knows I'm in a rush. Basically, she accommodated my last minute ay ess ess on her busy Saturday. I insisted on paying extra for her rushing it, but she refused. So I'm gonna write a good review instead. Tips: 1. Remember to wear the shoes you need for your occasion to the fitting. 2. A few people came up to the lady during my ten mins there asking in loud, not so nice tones if their clothes were ready. There is only one of her and she was clearly trying her best.
