I'll start on the good parts: location is easy to park and staff is nice. But they completely ruined my dress and they're quite pricey. I had my dress shortened and taken in a bit because it was big on me. The measure process was simple; they pinned the dress and I handed to them. What I neglected was that they never had the tailor to tell me HOW they were going to take it in. I trusted the Yelp review. My dress has rippled design on both sides the hip fabric. After i got my dress back and i tried it, one side of the rippled shape is completely gone! Smoothed and mismatched with the other side. I look like one of my hips is wider than the other side. I realized that they took in the material on the side. Not having the tailor to see it on me first when I was there was a huge mistake. Now I cannot wear it to my wedding banquet, which is in two days. A designer dress ruined. read more

I feel bad giving 2 stars because Silvia is a nice lady. But honestly I'm surprised this business has maintained 5 stars. I would think twice about bringing anything of high value. I put a lot of trust in Better Fit by bringing my wedding dress in for alterations but long story short, the process and alteration to my dress was bad. They seem to struggle with dresses with layers. For my wedding dress, they only removed fabric from the outer layer so there was excess fabric inside that scrunched up behind the lace which didn't lay right. During my ceremony, I noticed a part of my dress hanging off to find out they had stapled the lace back to the bottom of my dress... and my bustle fell apart. I had also brought in another dress for my Chinese banquet and had the same issues. The alteration around the arm area where it needed to be taken in was scrunched up at the seams - I asked Silvia if she could fix it and she tried but it still looked awful. I brought it back home and attempted to fix it myself and when I released the seam I found a hole in the outer layer so they were trying to cover up their mistake. On top of that, they seem disorganized and can't manage time well. I had multiple visits with several weeks in between and most of the time it seemed like Silvia was just starting to work on my dress while I was there. I spent up to hour there each time. I was patient with that, but at the end of day, they weren't able to alter my dresses appropriately and it was definitely disappointing. I don't doubt they can handle basic hems but I wouldn't go back. And especially beware of getting your wedding dress altered. read more

I've been to Better Fit a small handful of times over the last couple of years to get pants hemmed (super simple and cheap). I recently took my bridesmaid dress in due to the top being too loose and the hem being too long (I was afraid to order custom due to their no-return policy and ordered the smallest size on their website). I tried the dress on and asked if I should return it and get custom, but I was assured they could alter it for me by taking in the straps. I was worried about the price since the dress has 3 layers and the strap alteration seemed complicated due to the back of the dress being semi-open - but total was only $70! I told them I didn't need the dress any time soon and when I came back to try it on it fit perfectly. I've recommended this place to my housemate as well and she's had two bridesmaid dresses done here and was satisfied with both. read more

This review is WAY overdue. Silvia is AMAZING! I'm 5'1 so I often need to get dresses and pants altered. When I was figuring out what to wear for my engagement photo shoot, I brought at least 5 different dresses to her to get altered (because I'm indecisive and need options :P ). I want to add that the a good amount of the dresses I brought her weren't the simplest to alter. I attached a photo of one of the dresses. This dress is meant for someone 5' 7", and she tailored it to fit my body type -not just in length, but overall fit. It felt like the dress was custom made for my body. This is pretty much my go to spot for my random alterations. I've brought several work pants to be tapered and hemmed as well as repairing a jacket to be done at this location. It's been nearly a year since I've had my work pants altered and they are holding up without any issues. Silvia took her time with the measurements and ensuring I would be happy with the look I was going for. For my jacket, it had a hole in the sleeve and I wasn't sure if it needed a patch job, especially since the jacket had an inner liner and it would be tricky to fix myself. The shop fixed it with no hesitation and also did not stitch any of the liner, which was an attention to detail I appreciated. Stitch job looks solid, services hold up over time, and the friendly customer service definitely makes this place an easy choice for your alteration needs. The only thing annoying is that it might be a bit difficult to find the shop if you're not used to navigating business buildings/plazas, and the best suggestion I can make is that the shop is closer to the train tracks and Warner Ave, so no need to drive further into the plaza and if you see a dental lab you are on the wrong side. read more

Garbage service! Went here for the first time today. Inside it was hot and smelled of old food. Only 2 people were working and only one person was checking out customers. She had no sense of urgency and started to help me then skipped over to other customers that she knew when they walked in. I waited around for nothing only to leave with no services. So pleased with this place! I had bought a dress from an upper end department store. Part of the bodice needed to be better fitted to my body, and it needed to be hemmed. The dress was all sequin from head to toe. I went to the alterations of the department store and they refused to do anything about the bodice. They said it couldn't be done. And they wanted to charge me $200 to hem the dress because it was sequin. I got out of there quick and took the dress and went to Better Fit Alterations. The wonderful woman there jumped on the task without hesitation. She offered several solutions to fix the bodice to fit me better, and she hemmed the dress. The total cost for alterations was $65! It pains me to leave a bad review for any small business, but I feel that I have to in this case, because I chose this establishment based on the reviews and I felt a little let down. Services requested: - 1 pair of trousers: taken in (waist and leg) and hemmed. Done beautifully but not done when I arrived (2 hours after the time they told me this would be done). I had to sit for 20 minutes while they did this. - 1 pair of silk pants: hem lengthened by an inch, elastic removed from the waist. Total for both: $93 While the first pair wasn't done when I picked up and that was annoying, that wasn't the main issue I experienced. They made a hole in the second pair of pants (100% silk, very expensive) right next to the front seam, and hastily (obviously) tried to sew it closed in black thread. They were not going to mention this to me, they would have put a hole in my pants and let me pay full price had I not noticed this. I asked for a partial refund for the mistake and they said they could fix it instead. I then sat there for 25 more minutes while they fixed -- the definition of the fix was just re-sewing the hole in grey thread and then hiding it in the drawstring waist, therefore making the rise lower. Essentially, I gave them high rise silk pants and they gave me back low rise silk pants with a mended hole -- not what I asked for. To round things out, they iced my request for a partial refund. I don't know, overall very lackluster experience. While the bone white trousers I gave them were done nicely, I wouldn't come back here because of the debacle with my silk pants. In general it just communicated a lack of care for customers' very expensive and fragile items. read more

Silvia and her team are the best! I needed the sleeves of two suit jackets taken up and one pair of dress pants hemmed. I was measured perfectly and my items were ready in 2 days! Only cost $61. I tried them on when I picked them up and it couldn't have fit better. Also, a few people made mentioned it but Silvia is SO PATIENT with every person. While waiting to get my clothes there was a woman who was extremely particular with the pleats in her skirt, she must have asked Silvia the same two questions 50 different ways but every time Silvia smiled and just kept helping. I never had something tailored/altered before I came here, so I had a lot of anxiety about going, but the women that work here were so nice and explained exactly what to do when I arrived. I didn't bring the shoes that I would be wearing with the dress, but she didn't shame me and they had a spare pair of heels to use for this situation. Still a good idea to bring your own though to get the right height, but maybe I'm the only one who didn't realize that lol. Anyways, they did a great job hemming my bridesmaid dress, but I had waited until the last minute and was supposed to pick it up the day before the wedding. Guess who didn't remember to pick it up until after their closing time :) so I raced over and got there about half an hour after closing and thankfully they were still there even though it was Friday night, and they were willing to let me grab my dress. I know that was super crappy of me to go so late so I did give a 100% tip and I definitely learned my lesson. If you're on a deadline, make sure to set a reminder with an alarm in your calendar so you remember when to pick up your clothes!
