My husband and I brought his parents here again when they were back in town, since their favorite Buffalo restaurant during their first visit had been "that breakfast place." This time we came for dinner, instead of brunch, since we figured it would be much less hectic. I wish that the sandwiches and paninis that are on Betty's lunch menu were also available on their dinner menu, but unfortunately they're not. I had the black beans and rice, and as a vegetarian who cooks beans and rice at home a lot, I wasn't too impressed with Betty's version, though a generous amount of Frank's Red Hot sauce helped. In contrast, the pumpkin spice soup I had was a little too peppery. But everyone else seemed pleased with their dinner choices, including my gluten free mother-in-law who happily found that the quesadilla, which is listed as an appetizer, was generous enough to be an entree. We were all quite full from our entrees, but decided that we could squeeze in some dessert. I'm glad I did, because the banana cream pie that my husband and I shared was excellent. While I didn't try it, my father-in-law and husband were happy to report that the key lime pie was great as well, nice and tangy. My mother-in-law didn't regret getting the gluten-free chocolate caramel torte either. One thing that was consistent with our last visit was that it took a while for the food to arrive. The first time, we assumed that it was just the brunch hubbub, but we waited a long time for our dinner to arrive the second visit. There were other people eating early, people going to the concert at Kleinhans that evening, but the restaurant wasn't packed. We're used to waiting for food, especially since my mother-in-law's gluten-free needs probably require more care and attention than a normal order, but it was a good thing we weren't trying to get to Kleinhans or another activity after dinner. To sum it up, the food takes a while, and I wish the sandwiches on the lunch menu were on the dinner menu, but dessert is great, and I'm still glad Betty's makes dining out with people who are gluten-free quite easy. read more

Betty's reminds me of the great Vegetarian and Vegan restaurants we have in Austin, TX. The menu highlights fresh, and simple ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy yet eclectic. The breakfast we had here with our local friends was AMAZING. On a late Friday morning the place was packed. We had only a short wait, and the staff were prompt and friendly. They have an innovative list of breakfast cocktails to select from. I tried the St. Germaine Kir Royale which was superb. Our group unanimously loved their food. The portions are large. My omelette of the day was incredible. Fresh, and full of well balanced flavors. Their gluten free toast is definitely in my top 5. My husband loved his quiche, and our friend's hash was on point. read more

There are so many reviews for this place I feel like mine is just going to get lost in the mix, but I'm reviewing anyway, because I liked this place; a lot. This was one of my many wonderful experiences here for my first time in Buffalo, this city is absolutely beautiful, the history, the architecture, and Betty's! We came here for lunch as soon as we arrived in Buffalo, because we were starving and this place has vegetarian/vegan options for my friend. We arrived for their brunch menu, and I browsed through the menu and decided on the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, because I love salmon. My friends ordered the eggs benedict as well, with no bacon and my other friend ordered the tofu scramble. We did have to wait a bit until our friend arrived, they won't seat you unless your entire party is there. Which was fine, we came from all different places, but the hostess was super patient with us and when we were all here, she seated us in the dining area. We ordered and it came out within 10 to 15 minutes, the ambiance was very mellow, the volume in the restaurant wasn't loud at all, I could hear what my friends at my table were talking about. Our waitress was very nice, explained the menu easily and asked if we wanted to drink anything besides water. Our meals were absolutely delicious. I ate all of mine, and even the home fries, which had the perfect amount of seasoning on them. Everything was delicious, hot and satisfying. Overall, I had a wonderful experience here; it's a very trendy place to be and busy, which is good. I used to really love Betty's, but recently it hasn't been great. Today the hostess was rude repeatedly and then our food was cold and unimpressive. The California scramble I ordered was supposed to come with warm tortillas but came with cold tortillas that had been thrown on a griddle long enough to get oily but not to brown or warm up. Been hearing about that place for awhile and it defiantly is a must to eat at. We went for brunch. The food was extremely good. I had the special on the menu the Quiche the crust was cooked perfect and the cheese and eggs in the Quiche made it so tasty. Fresh fruit came with my meal and the fruit was fresh. Rude sums this place up. My brother in law went inside and said we had a group of three, but two may be joining us. The hostess snapped that they don't like seating people until the entire group is there. My brother in law is quite friendly, he said he would be fine with just a table for three, and still she was rude. She said we were complicating things. Because 3 people + 2 people is just too much for one brain to handle. Let's be clear: there were 7 tables open. There was no reason to be so rude. We left. I don't give money to establishments that speak to my family in such a manner, but in case management would like to know: your restaurant is conveniently located near a hospital. the kind of place where people find out they have terminal illnesses. So maybe some of your customers are family members who haven't been getting enough sleep because they have been dealing with a family emergency. And maybe being a pretentious, unpleasant, turtlenecked asshole isn't the best way to handle those customers. Now, if the short haired middle aged woman with glasses would like to contact me and explain to me why she had to be so incredibly unpleasant, THAT would be the first sign of actual customer service I've seen from this establishment. The building is huge and beautiful, with a cute children's area for reading. The menu is large and everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. The bartender was friendly and quick. Great little spot with beyond delicious food! The wait is an obvious drawback - last time I went, we waited an hour before being seated. Granted, it was worth it, be aware! The food was pretty good but from the start our greeting was less than genuine from a pretty moody women who didn't seem too happy to be there. So that rubbed me the wrong way but big deal everyone has bad days I quickly moved on but our server (older middle aged guy wearing shorts) only talked to us 4 times the entire meal! Got us our coffees, took our orders, brought the food, and then gave us the bill (after I had to find him to ask him for it) He didn't bother asking us how are food was even though he kept walking by us. If had done so he would of known I did not receive the correct order! But by the time I had to ask for the bill I was over it. I have been for brunch twice. Sat outside once and inside once. Although there was a big crowd, they were very efficient with seating us ASAP. The food portions are large and filling. Betty's was delicious! Highly recommend! I got the veggie hash and the cheese grits and everything was so flavorful and wonderful. I appreciated the suggestion of hot sauce but truly nothing even needed it. Also there were so many veggie and vegan options for me which isn't always the case. I didn't love the coffee but I'm particular about that. Service was fantastic too! Even the restaurant itself was very interesting as it was an old building built in the 1800s. After hearing rave reviews of Betty's we decided to give it a try. Meh is all I can say. We had the chicken wing soup to start. Sadly it was lacking flavor. The chicken was ground into minuscule pieces. In a city of restaurants that know how to make chicken wing soup this hardly rated a 1-2 in our opinion We found the menu lacking despite having a page of specials. I opted for the Caesar salad. $2.50 extra if you wanted croutons. Never seen that before. Aren't croutons part of a Caesar salad? Friend opted for the chicken pot chicken and which he said was good but could have been warmer. Waiter was nice and attentive. As a place to eat at, I think Betty's is a really cute establishment. It's much bigger inside than I thought it was. The wait on the weekend will be somewhat long, but if it's a nice day, you can sit outside, which is a nice treat. The whole time I was here, there were several vacant tables but lots of people waiting. Hmmm... I can't understand why they were making people wait unless it's kitchen bombardment issue... which is definitely could be. I ordered the breakfast burrito. I found it pretty underwhelming and under-seasoned. It was a lot of food but it was not great. The potatoes on the side were merely meh, okay but nothing special. Maybe there are certain items that are always delicious. I didn't order them. Plus, everything is an add-on charge, and it ends up not being an inexpensive meal. At some point, I'll come back to hopefully have a better experience but I'm A-OK about Betty's at best, for now. read more

I was so surprised how much I enjoyed Betty's! I haven't been there in years. I actually kinda avoided it because it became trendy and overcrowded most of the time. I went back last week because I had a gift card and was on vacation from work so I could go on a weekday. My friend joined me for breakfast. I ordered shrimp and grits, something I wouldn't typically order but they didn't have eggs benny on the menu. I loved it! A little pricy but you get a decent amount of food. My friend also had cornbread that was a little spicy that I really enjoyed as well. We also ordered a bottle of cider to go with our breakfast. It paired perfectly with the meal. We stopped in for brunch around 12:30 , a party of 2 and the hostess said 15-20 minutes. As we waited I noticed the hostess was seating larger parties before us. At first I thought the forst group had a reservation. I watched and listened as more groups of people came in and she would tell them 15 minutes and then she called them before us. Three customers in a restaurant on a lonely Wednesday morning does not constitute an unreasonable task. You can't split the check for a party of 2, you dolt? On a recent Sunday morning we find ourselves childless, un-hungover and with extra time on our hands. I wanted to go somewhere different for brunch (and by different I mean not an all-you-can-eat buffet, and not a place we go to frequently with our toddler.) Decided on Betty's, where we haven't been in years - give me a break, we live in the suburbs. Word of mouth has gotten around that they have a fabulous brunch, and that word of mouth is NO LIE. Great coffee. Reasonable prices. Short wait (crowded, yet we waited barely 5 minutes for a table for 2.) The food? Delectable. I had the smoked salmon eggs benedict (I can still taste it - WOW!) Husband had the Chilaquiles - "a traditional hangover cure in some regions of Mexico; a casserole of eggs, corn tortillas, tomatoes, onions, jalapeño's, zucchini and corn with cheddar/jack cheese; served with fresh tomato salsa, salsa verde, sour cream and black beans." He pronouced it a success - wolfed the whole plate down. He did say he willl ask for extra salsa verde next time. Did you read that - NEXT TIME! YAY! The ONLY reason it won't get 5 stars is service - our guy wasn't great. Took our order quickly, but never came back after he brought our meals, even for that cursory "how is everything?" stop. Water glasses were emptied & put to the side of the table early into the meail, but he didn't notice until he came back to clear the plates after we were finished. I then ordered a scone for us to split for "dessert" & it was brought to us in a to-go container (even though he had just refilled my coffee.) Ummm...OK, we'll take the hint. read more

Whenever we go to Buffalo, we always go to Betty's for breakfast. The line was long but so worth the wait. The food is great and the waitresses are top notch. No complaints at all. We will continue to make our yearly visit to Betty's no matter where we stay in Buffalo. read more

I am absolutely in love. Betty's does everything right! My first visit here was for dinner and I wanted everything on the menu! It was difficult to narrow down but I settled on the cream of asparagus soup and the smoked trout salad. Both were fantastic, as was the fresh bread with herb butter and the glass of Shiraz from the bar. I truly can't wait to go back and try EVERYTHING they come up with! Fantastic, fresh, delicious! Betty's is one of the most quaint restaurants that I've visited anywhere. It reminded me of being in someone's personal dining room or at a restaurant in a sea town like Portland, ME. I felt very comfortable there. There were going to be two of us but I arrived first. The hostess would not seat me before my companion arrived; which is understandable. They had already seated a sizable lunch crowd and people were constantly coming in. That is a sign of an experience worth waiting for. There are many items to choose from on the menu and each is identified as gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian or vegan when it applies. They have a reasonable selection of breakfast options, but not so many that it becomes overwhelming. Most breakfast items are served until 11:00a, though I think some are also served until 3:00p. They serve cocktails too! They also offer sandwiches and salads which can complement or be a complement to the soups and chilis. I opted for the quiche of the day (asparagus) and my companion chose the salmon salad. My quiche was very well-prepared and looked perfect atop the dish on which it was served. Accompanying it was a beautiful fruit medley which was as fresh, sweet and juicy as you'll find. My companion's salad looked delicious, but the relationship did not warrant me asking her to try it. The server was very friendly and attentive and upon learning that this was my first time at Betty's, she welcomed me again and seemed to genuinely want me to have a great experience. She checked on us appropriately and confirms my satisfaction after I completed my meal. Were it not for the parking and the crowd, I'd would definitely return. I'm sure I'll at least try to come back though I can foresee myself driving by and seeing the crowd, just to pass by and take advantage of one of the other options in the area. I was there awhile ago and the atmosphere was nice. Although I didn't appreciate sitting right in front of the kitchen door that opened every 30 seconds, I did notice that the kitchen floors were very clean which says good things. My poor rating of this restaurant is connected to the constant banging into my chair by multiple servers. As for the food, I had the chicken pot pie. A little bland. Was surprised and very disappointed that it only had a pie top. No pie crust inside the dish. The top pie crust was a thin see though dough with cornmeal in it.
