What a fantastic brunch spot! Great service, delicious food, and reasonably priced! We had a vegan person and a gluten-free person in our party and there were no problems whatsoever with any accommodations. The food was beyond amazing. Super awesome spot. Stopped in for brunch before we hit the road back home. My wife order the Shrimp and Grits and I the breakfast burrito. Each option was tasty, packed full of fresh ingredients and really hit the spot. The staff was super busy but made time we were updated on the status of our order. I would definitely return to Betty's. I went on a Saturday around 1p. There's was about a 20-25 minute wait, but tables were turning over quickly so it didn't seem as long. Everyone was very friendly and the place has a neighborhoody, yet eclectic vibe going on. The food was delicious. I was shocked at how flavorful the grits cake was (I had the shrimp and grits). I like Betty's! Been a couple time since moving to Buffalo and it's easily one of my favorite breakfast spots in town.

Went to Betty's today fir a lunch meeting. Was looking forward to my " regular" lunch fare with a nice atmosphere fir a brief meeting. Told my co worker to go in and get us a table while I parked the car. Less than 5 minutes later, I entered the restaurant ( which was only half full) to see my coworker standing there waiting. Apparently they wouldn't seat her " until all members of the party were present ) . She was told this by the somewhat snarky hostess ( usually very friendly staff here? Is she new??) not sure what kind of table they would have sat her at as a solo diner as the only tables they have are deuces or 4 tops? Anyway , seated quickly and looking forward to my "regular" sandwich the jazzy which is supposed to be served on French bread with house made smoked turkey. I've attached a pic from last year when I posted ( also same a few months back) as compared to this year- served on whole wheat wrap with deli turkey!?! When I questioned our server he mumbled something about the kitchen working on a new menu. Well. Ok but serve what's on the menu as you work it out. Server asked if I wanted something g else or a drink, so he tried to accommodate but I really wanted " my" sandwich. Also on another note, one of the female servers needs some cushion soles on her shoes. She's very slender but very heavy heeled and her stomping back and forth on wood floor was noticed by everyone... very distracting. I'm hoping this experience was just a hiccup with new owners. Yesterday waited 90 minutes for a Cuban sandwich. It was the woman's first day but still, 90 minutes? Place made me want to vote Republican

I have been a loyal customer at Betty's for many years, however in the past year I have been disappointed with every food item I have ordered. Being a vegan in Buffalo can be challenging because there are limited restaurants who offer plant based options that is not a salad or a veggie burger, so Betty's has always been my go-to place for vegan comfort food. I decided to give them one last chance, so I ordered takeout for lunch the other day. After 25 minutes of trying to get through to speak with someone, I was finally able to place my order. I ordered the 'chicken' seitan sandwich with a side salad and olive oil dressing. When I picked up my food I cashed out leaving the hostess a tip because she was very friendly, so my order totaled $18. When I got back to work, excited to finally eat my lunch I noticed they completely messed up my order. They gave me the 'beefless' on weck and no dressing for my salad. I wouldn't have been that upset, however the sandwich consisted of 2 slabs of seitan, a nickel size amount of horseradish 'aoli' on a hamburger bun. I debated on calling to complain because I used to work in the restaurant business and I get it when people mess up, especially when it's busy, but this was not the 1st time and not the 2nd time this has happened, and I thought they should know that when a customer pays $16 for a sandwich they should at least get what they ordered. So, I called and I again spoke with the very friendly hostess. I expressed how upset I was and she said she would have someone call me back. Nobody called me back. This will be the last time I give Betty's my business. read more

I went to Betty's for brunch/lunch (blunch?) last weekend. It's a popular place, so be prepared to wait. It's worth it. They have a lot of gluten free options, including gluten free bread. I didn't ask what brand it was, but the bun on my sandwich was delicious! I had a great sandwich with chicken, spinach, goat cheese and artichokes. The star at my table, which I could not eat, was a pumpkin bread pudding. This is a really great restaurant to go to if one person is gluten free and the others are not. There are a lot of options for everyone. I noticed a lot of people had bloody mary's, so I think it might be one of their specialties. This is a solid choice. Enjoy! I came to Betty's for my roommates 21st birthday because we were on a mission to find the best Bloody Mary in buffalo and I think we DEF found it. Along with by FAR the best biscuits and gravy on the west side. (Unless of course we're talking about your southern native grandmother who happens to live on Massachusetts and makes homemade biscuits and gravy) we enjoyed a delicious meal here and even though my immature palette wouldn't touch a Bloody Mary with a 10 foot pole my roommate really said it was the absolute best. This is a happy place! Lovely restaurant with comfortable, shaded patio seating. Someone brought us water right away before our waiter arrived, which was nice. The menu had an impressive range; I decided on the jerk chicken sandwich with the side salad with tahini yogurt dressing. The jerk chicken sandwich was great: chicken perfectly cooked and tender, grilled pineapple rings, and a really intriguing "banana garlic mayo." Not sure how they pulled that off, but it was a nice combination. My only quibble would be with the jerkishness of the jerk chicken. I like an aggressive jerk; this was a very subtle, mild jerk. (Kind of like the difference between the guy who cuts you off in traffic versus the guy who gives you a dig disguised as a compliment.) I really liked the sandwich overall, but I would have liked more of that spicy, herbal POP that jerk is known for. The side salad was one of the best I've ever had. Usually side salads are boring and you eat them halfheartedly out of a sense of obligation. This one had sprouts, carrots, radishes, sunflower seeds and -- be still my heart -- pickled onions. The tahini dressing was thick and flavorful, and I honestly ate most of my salad before I even approached the sandwich. My lunch cohort all enjoyed their meals as well. The location is cute and service was pretty good. However, the food is a miss. The menu was tough for me to find something (I don't really like eggs). The French toast looked more like a cake so I was trying to avoid that. The potatoes for breakfast came out almost raw, I couldn't pierce it with my fork. Our waitress was nice and gave us a second round of potatoes. But toast was cold and not very crisp and the omelette only had the "innards" on one side which made half ham and half just eggs. I don't think they've ever been to the south after trying their biscuits and gravy. It tasted like cheesy hamburger helper over a store bought biscuit. Overall. I was wondering if the hype was true. We'll, it was! Took my 4 year old for a lunch date. I had the veggie yummwich and bloody Mary, he ordered the fish sticks from the kid menu. I can't speak for the entire menu, but the French Toast Cassie was amazing. It had that firm custardy taste and texture akin to bread pudding. The fresh berry reduction was delicious and the fruit on the side was properly ripen unlike most fruit you get at most places. I stopped by Betty's for a rainy Tuesday brunch with a friend. Despite the rain, we asked if we could sit outside (under the covered seating) because the temp was nice and summer days are limited! The hostess was more than happy to check that the outdoor seating was acceptable despite the rain and sat us outside. Our server was courteous and nice. Breakfast is available all day so I ordered the scrambled tofu hash. My friend thought $10 for this was somewhat expensive but I didn't bother me- I'll pay extra to have vegan menu options! Anyways, she was looking for something lighter such as avocado toast. No such luck. I'm surprised by this because although betty's is more of a diner, they have a large vegan & vegetarian millennial following. And you know the stereotype about millennials and their avo toast! My friend asked if the kitchen could simply smash avocado on toast and the waiter said no but that he could bring her a side of avocado with her toast. Okay. Not a huge deal but if I were the kitchen I would have honored her request simply for the sake of presentation. In regards to taste- my dish was delicious, quite big, and very satisfying. My only complaint would be the large amount of oil used but it is diner fare so I can't be upset! The "avocado toast" was good but because it was just toast with a side of avocados it lacked any seasoning or topping that this meal typically comes with. Once again, not a big deal just something for Betty's to consider in the future. I would definitely go back! p.s. betty's menu is clearly labeled with symbols to identify which foods can be made gf, vegan, vegetarian, or dairy free. They were sautéed with onion and well done just like I asked for. It seemed like they must have used six eggs for my sandwich. It was huge! The quiche was fantastic! When my friend finished her piece, she said it was so good she could have eaten the entire pie dish full. My coffee mug was never empty. Our server was very nice and checked on us periodically. Just not great...second time here and the lackadaisical service just ruins the food. Brought my 93 year old mom and she can get a little impatient. Today she was justified. No one in this place gives one shit about how long you wait for food when you have a hungry old person at your table. It took our server forever to come and take an order and he was very pissy about the fact that he had to come in the back corner when we were seated to take our order and proceeded to tell us that he was so far away from everything in the restaurant but it made his job much harder. Dude, I don't care. I'm there with a 93-year-old who hasn't eaten all day and wants to eat. When we finally did get our food it came out cold. We finally flagged him down because he had to hold tables and he just proceeded to show his shoulders and say he didn't know what the problem was... Didn't really check on us after that. We had to wave him down each time we needed anything because he knew we were mad at the fact that the food come out cold. He offered to have it warmed up for us but at that point we waited so long that we just needed to eat. My mother ordered the biscuits and gravy which she said we're good except for the fact that it was cold and I ordered the smothered cornbread special but again very good flavors just cold and my partner ordered the chicken and waffle sliders which were nothing special. My husband and I brought his parents here again when they were back in town, since their favorite Buffalo restaurant during their first visit had been "that breakfast place." This time we came for dinner, instead of brunch, since we figured it would be much less hectic. I wish that the sandwiches and paninis that are on Betty's lunch menu were also available on their dinner menu, but unfortunately they're not. I had the black beans and rice, and as a vegetarian who cooks beans and rice at home a lot, I wasn't too impressed with Betty's version, though a generous amount of Frank's Red Hot sauce helped. In contrast, the pumpkin spice soup I had was a little too peppery. But everyone else seemed pleased with their dinner choices, including my gluten free mother-in-law who happily found that the quesadilla, which is listed as an appetizer, was generous enough to be an entree. We were all quite full from our entrees, but decided that we could squeeze in some dessert. I'm glad I did, because the banana cream pie that my husband and I shared was excellent. While I didn't try it, my father-in-law and husband were happy to report that the key lime pie was great as well, nice and tangy. My mother-in-law didn't regret getting the gluten-free chocolate caramel torte either. One thing that was consistent with our last visit was that it took a while for the food to arrive. The first time, we assumed that it was just the brunch hubbub, but we waited a long time for our dinner to arrive the second visit. There were other people eating early, people going to the concert at Kleinhans that evening, but the restaurant wasn't packed. We're used to waiting for food, especially since my mother-in-law's gluten-free needs probably require more care and attention than a normal order, but it was a good thing we weren't trying to get to Kleinhans or another activity after dinner. To sum it up, the food takes a while, and I wish the sandwiches on the lunch menu were on the dinner menu, but dessert is great, and I'm still glad Betty's makes dining out with people who are gluten-free quite easy. read more

Betty's reminds me of the great Vegetarian and Vegan restaurants we have in Austin, TX. The menu highlights fresh, and simple ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy yet eclectic. The breakfast we had here with our local friends was AMAZING. On a late Friday morning the place was packed. We had only a short wait, and the staff were prompt and friendly. They have an innovative list of breakfast cocktails to select from. I tried the St. Germaine Kir Royale which was superb. Our group unanimously loved their food. The portions are large. My omelette of the day was incredible. Fresh, and full of well balanced flavors. Their gluten free toast is definitely in my top 5. There are so many reviews for this place I feel like mine is just going to get lost in the mix, but I'm reviewing anyway, because I liked this place; a lot. This was one of my many wonderful experiences here for my first time in Buffalo, this city is absolutely beautiful, the history, the architecture, and Betty's! We came here for lunch as soon as we arrived in Buffalo, because we were starving and this place has vegetarian/vegan options for my friend. We arrived for their brunch menu, and I browsed through the menu and decided on the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, because I love salmon. My friends ordered the eggs benedict as well, with no bacon and my other friend ordered the tofu scramble. We did have to wait a bit until our friend arrived, they won't seat you unless your entire party is there. Which was fine, we came from all different places, but the hostess was super patient with us and when we were all here, she seated us in the dining area. We ordered and it came out within 10 to 15 minutes, the ambiance was very mellow, the volume in the restaurant wasn't loud at all, I could hear what my friends at my table were talking about. Our waitress was very nice, explained the menu easily and asked if we wanted to drink anything besides water. Our meals were absolutely delicious. I ate all of mine, and even the home fries, which had the perfect amount of seasoning on them. Everything was delicious, hot and satisfying. Overall, I had a wonderful experience here; it's a very trendy place to be and busy, which is good.
