The quesadillas were JAM-packed with fluffy eggs, perfectly fried bacon, and delicious cheddar cheese. The coffee cake muffins were indulgently dense yet flavorful and all without being too sweet (the muffin top was so wonderful, I found myself turning the muffin upside down so I could save the best for last! ). Quaint little book themed coffee shop with a very unique book themed decor. Even the table tops are plastered with pages from books. I sat at the Color Purple Table. You place your order and the counter and grab a seat. The menu is massive so it would be a good idea to take a peek prior to arrival. The food menu wasn't on display however they had folded menus at the register to view. I had the Toni Morrison Iced Latte Caramel Vanilla Brown Sugar with almond milk. It was delicious not too sweet. A very good Saturday morning was spent here, enjoying coffee and waking up while I work out what's next. The Museum of Aviation, obviously, but after that I don't yet know. A quiet spot towards the back where I got to watch the "senior coffee" gang come in and have a chin wag. The quiche is amazing and so are most of the pastries. The coffee however, is really bad. They skimp heavily on any added flavors like they did with the matcha. If you enjoy a more cozy coffee atmosphere, between friends might be for you. It can get a bit noisy but it's the sound of community and friendship. Their waffles are great and the prices are even better. Lots of drinks to choose from, from frappes to espresso, so tea. Pretty sure all the food items are made to order so you could be waiting a bit but the staff will bring your order over to you. It is a nice change from your chain coffee shops. read more

So please join me in reimagining my delight when we walked into Between Friends at 930am on a Saturday morning to a bustling, humming community of full tables of chatter, kids dancing around their cinnamon buns, staff calling out orders in rapid pace, and even then the lovely human at the register patiently and heartily walking me and my companion through non-dairy options. My friend and I sat for...I don't know, an hour (what is time?!) enjoying our coffees and the energy inside. I had the Florence, a lavender and coconut latte that I requested made with coconut milk, and it was perfect. I'm always hesitant to order flavored coffees because (a) I generally prefer my coffee black, which may or may not hinge on (b) most flavored lattes are too flavored and overly-syrups and unbalanced and are hard to get through the whole cup. WELL. Please let me tell you about this lovely, nuanced, artful latte I had and how it was very possibly the best flavored coffee I've had. Obviously, YMMV depending on your personal preferences, but Between Friends is my new standing date location and if I lived closer would be a daily/weekly stop. My partner loved the Harper Lee Latte and gets it every time we go. I love the aesthetic of this place and there's so many drink options and choices that it could be a bit overwhelming. I haven't yet found a drink that I like quite as much as my partner has with his; but most of the drinks I've had are decent. The employees are super kind and helpful with the customization, and can tell whenever I visit that lots of locals visit this place for studying, eating lunch, and just hanging out. Awesome themed coffeeshop. The wife and I stopped in for coffee one morning and I was surprised. Coffeeshops to me can be so blahzay if not executed properly, but they got this one right in my opinion. The coffee flavors are themed after famous books and authors. I was pleasantly surprised to see diversity and representation among the authors. The thoughtfulness says a lot about the owners of the establishment. The customers reflected the quirkiness of the business. There was a small group of bikers meeting up and getting to know one another. This was super refreshing to see and hear nowadays. We had coffee and waffles. My wife got a red velvet waffle which she enjoyed. I got a birthday cake waffle that was basically a plain waffle with sprinkles. Super cute literature-inspired cafe with tables that are laminated with vintage book pages from classics like Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh. However, the store was cute and I liked the books for sale--that was the best part of the experience. The coffee was way too sweet, sickingly sweet, even though I requested it to be half sweet. I started coming here once a week about 2 years ago with my son before school. We love the coffee and hot chocolate. In my opinion it's better than Starbucks. However, I have noticed the quality of food has decreased in the time we've been coming here. My son use to love the Apple fritters and now every time we get them, they are extremely dense and dry. Today I decided to try something new and got the chicken biscuit. I was absolutely baffled at what I was served. I received 3 microwaved chicken nuggets on a very dry biscuit. My son thought it was hilarious but even he wouldn't eat it. This place is not safe for people of color. I came in on Halloween, which is my birthday to get coffee. There was a homeless woman who slept in front, we offered her coffee. She decided to come inside and threaten my daughter and me. She said clearly in front of the workers, that she would snap our necks for offering her coffee. I called the police to press charges, and even though the staff clearly heard us being threatening, they told the police something different which allowed the white homeless lady to go free. I felt so disrespected, I thought this place was safe but it's not for people of color. I will never shop here again. Although the coffee is great, if you are colored and someone attacks or threatens you here, they will not have your back if you are colored. read more

The whole place is author themed which is so cool to the nerd in me. There's quite a bit of seating and even a fireplace. Scones and other delights fill the pastry case and the hot case at the register has the quiche ready to go! I saw a sign in there for an eating challenge. It said you have to eat 3 big stack pancakes and a 20 ounce milkshake in 30 minutes, then you get the meal free and a t-shirt. I'm a sucker for a t-shirt so I might have to try it. Today I had a CS Lewis, which is a butterscotch iced coffee. My hubby had some chocolate iced latte (can't remember the author name) and my daughter had a Cleary, a mint chocolate chip milkshake. The service was great, friendly and inviting. No pressure for us to hurry through the super long menu to decide.
