This place is not safe for people of color. I came in on Halloween, which is my birthday to get coffee. There was a homeless woman who slept in front, we offered her coffee. She decided to come inside and threaten my daughter and me. She said clearly in front of the workers, that she would snap our necks for offering her coffee. I called the police to press charges, and even though the staff clearly heard us being threatening, they told the police something different which allowed the white homeless lady to go free. I felt so disrespected, I thought this place was safe but it's not for people of color. I will never shop here again. Although the coffee is great, if you are colored and someone attacks or threatens you here, they will not have your back if you are colored. read more

The coffee was spectacular and the cinnamon rolls were so warm and baked exactly right. My friend and I quite often have coffee together and we have longed for a place like this to have fellowship together. I did not love the coffee that tasted mostly of milk and not coffee, the bakery items that were obviously not baked anywhere near the site, or how incredibly loud it was with employees shouting orders to the room at random. My third time trying- I had Jane Austen today- not good, but have also tried Toni Morrison, also incredibly weak- even with a double shot of espresso. Score! After driving through this area for months I finally stopped for coffee. Boy, am I glad I did. Such a cute little cafe with the friendliest service ever. And yes, the coffee was wonderful. I asked for light sweetener because I like to taste the roast. It was prefect. Smooth flavor, delicately sweetened and it didn't taste like a sugary frappe from a window. Don't let the gas station discourage you. This strip of storefronts is really satisfying. I also love the beef jerky from the fresh butcher at the other end of this little strip. Between friends coffee and espresso is decidedly below average, where they get a lot of love is from their different flavor combinations and specialty drinks. People really do enjoy those. I, however, find them far too sweet to the point where each flavor combo all just tastes like sugar. The pastries are okay, nothing outstanding and I wouldn't order one from there. It's unfortunate because this area doesn't have a lot of good coffee so it's a bit of a skewed report. If you're coming from a place with really bomb coffee and flavorful espresso you will likely be disappointed. The milk when they froth it, just tastes like hot milk with some very large bubbles, and it does sometimes taste burned. The atmosphere is comfortable and the book theme is cute. It is a good place to get some work done if you're just trying to get out of the house and live in the area. The staff is very friendly and the service is fairly fast, however it would not be my first choice of coffee shops. read more

I have not tried the pastries yet...but I am reminded of the award winning cinnamon rolls whenever I walk in. Will definitely have to try! I do however, recommended the Belgian waffles! Yum! They also serve other lunch items such as a small pizzas, quiche, even a stack of pancakes for brunch! My boyfriend and I can usually get two speciality drinks along with two brunch items for around $16, which I think is a great deal quality-wise. I do hope that the house hours extend soon other than on Friday's, I live down the street and would enjoy to be able to work on homework in the afternoon during the week on my days off. read more

I visited between friends coffee during the COVID-19 shutdown. I ordered a big breakfast complete with breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, and pancakes. Everything was good, but not great. It all tasted the same as something I could have made at home, in other words there was nothing special about it. The pancakes tasted like the Aunt Jemima mix. The sandwiches were just meh. The cinnamon rolls were nothing special either. I wish I could have tried the coffee, but I gave up caffeine months ago. I may go back and have a coffee one day since that's their specialty. The majority of my review is based off their awesome decor and atmosphere. When I went in to pick the food up I was extremely impressed with the literary theme. There are books or parts of books everywhere. It looks like a place you would want to sit down and stay awhile. I will go back again just to have the opportunity to sit and get the full experience. read more

I would go here for the atmosphere. Black coffee isn't a terrible option here. The espresso needs a lot of work. The lattes are doused with sugar for the most part. There's not a whole lot of healthy food options. It's mostly pastries and baked items loaded with sugar. It is a nice place to meet people though. The staff is also prompt and kind. read more

Brought my best friend here who was visiting. First time for me too. I had the Pablo Neruda, brown sugar latte. It was delicious! Hot, flavorful, perfect way to start my day. My friend had the Tolkien, vanilla latte, she really enjoyed it. We shared an amazing Maple scone, warm, fresh, melt in your mouth good. The atmosphere was very nice, music good, appropriate volume, comfy booth to sit and chat. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because we were not greeted when we walked in and we were not acknowledged at all until the gentleman behind the counter finished doing a few things. I don't mind waiting at all, but at least lookup and acknowledge your customers. Service was great after that small snag.
