A notch above your everyday liquor store and right in lines with a BevMo, Beverage Warehouse in Del Rey is my craft beer safe haven. Beverage Warehouse is that exactly; a warehouse filled with alcoholic beverages o' plenty. The location and lot it's resting in are both a little misleading, being in a residential area and smack dab inside a functioning warehouse lot. Though a little confusing, all you have to do is turn into the parking lot and you'll see Beverage Warehouse towards the back. The selection here is vast; Arrogant Bastard, Left Coast Brewing (Hop Juice), St. Archer's, New Belgium and so on.. Firestone and Ballastic are my go to's right now, and to my enjoyment, they have just about every version of both brands.. some of which I have yet to try! It's amazing how many choices there are in the beer world nowadays and how almost EVERY bottle has a background history about it. Beverage Warehouse is like a drinkers library; the labels are the book covers and the liquids tell the story. And it also helps that each brewery seems to have some type of tale to tell when it comes to their 'craft' beer smacked on the label.. They're also stocked with hard to find, off the wall named and various colored liquors & alcohols with an option to have items ordered elsewhere and delivered to the warehouse, which is a plus if you're into purchasing something from out of country or not on shelf at that time. I've seen vodkas, whiskeys & beers with proclaimed sour tastes, cinnamon, cherries, almonds, dark chocolates and more. Probably any alcoholic drink you could imagine in bottle form is stocked here and on shelf. The staff kinda just hangs around like buddies would. I'd like somebody out in the aisles guiding me due to the fact, as mentioned, the place is overflowing with choices. They have, however, made a few appearances on grounds when some youngsters (at various times) drop a bottle. I've been here on more than one occasion where this has happened.. Stop trying to be slick, grab a cart and place the handle of whiskey, 2 IPA's and 6-pack you're trying to hold inside of a cart. Life will become easier. So yeah.. And, while the prices aren't as low as many other "corporate" competitors, the Booze Barn (as I so affectionately refer to it) has an amazing selection. Dozens, maybe a hundred different types of Vodka and other hard liquors, beers-r-us, rare sodas, mixers, and a very generous wine selection. Sometimes, I've cursed the heavens stating that alcohol is the cause and solution to all of life's problems. On certain days, you drink to ease a tough situation. The Beverage Warehouse is open to the general public and has been since 1970. It's known to carry drinks that are hard to find, not to mention a good assortment of beverages that might not be available anywhere around the area. Before BevMo and Total Wine & More became the GO TO spot, I assume this was the ISH. The nearest competition is at least 5 miles away, so there's some incentive to shop here. Just picture a huge ass liquor store. Their aisles are stocked with hard liquor, wine, beer, and select spirits. Even the high end stuff, including pocket sized drinks. There's something for everyone. If you live in the nearby LA area, it's a fine place to stock up. Their prices seem alright, only cause I live in OC and there's plenty of competition around. The customer service is a bit lacking. Other than the person behind the register, I didn't see a single attendant around for help. The alcohol here is super cheap & their selection is amazing. Every kind, every brand, every flavor, every color. It's pretty much an alcoholic's dream. My bff & her bf came to visit from the Bay Area & she had been searching for Elderflower liquor forever to make Dainty Ladies (mixed w/ champagne). They had it here & even in 2 sizes & a mini (for those days at work, right?). Her bf had been all over SF searching for cherry something & rose vodka to make Turkish delight martinis. He found them both here too. The people here are very knowledgeable & helpful too. I bet they'll even try to find things for you they may not have in stock. So I asked just out of curiosity. The guy that just answered bashed the Bellflower location and before I even gave him the name of the product I was looking for he proceeded to say that they may or may not have it. People blame alcohol for a lot of problems, but that's simply not fair. The real issue is BAD alcohol. I feel like if you slapped Miller Light out of the hands of anyone you saw drinking it and replaced it with a nice hefeweisse, the world would be a better place. This is why the existence of Beverage Warehouse is a public service. The place is an alcoholic's dream, with essentially every variety of alcohol from Ale to Zinfandel. Basically every type of liquor has its own shelf, chock full of things to appeal to your inner hipster or inner drunk or both. If you're a beer snob like me, you might want to have someone hold you upright when you get to the beer section. Craft brews, imports and locals, oh my! I'm not an expert on beer, but I imagine if it has hops and it's been put in a bottle, it is at Beverage Warehouse. So go, get some nice beer and be the hero of the next Pabst party. This is like a BevMo, but even better. Yup. Even better than BevMo. It's a huge warehouse of liquids in a somewhat industrial area so it's kind of hard to locate, but once you find it, you won't want to go elsewhere. I won't have a choice since I don't live in the area, but if you're a local, then this place is just for you. The prices are pretty standard, so don't expect a deal of a lifetime, but their options are huge and varied and you'll encounter brands you had never heard of or imagined could exist. They even have the premium Suntory Whiskey that I found in Japan. For twice the price of course, but it is an import. They also have a huge selection of strange beers that I've never seen elsewhere. This place is huge inside! You'd never guess from the outside, but they carry *everything*. A whole host of weird specialty stuff you didn't even know existed before you walked in. They have obscure beers from tiny microbreweries in tiny towns you didn't even know were in your country, much less available in your own backyard for purchase. The guys who work there walk around asking people if they need help, which is totally unexpected for a warehouse format place. They are brilliantly friendly and knowledgeable about their stock. This is one of the only places in the whole of LA county that carries Floris Apple Ale (maybe you've tried it at Wurstkuche! If not, you should!). It's still really pricey here, which makes me feel better about the price i've paid for it out at restaurants before. read more

NOT FEMALE FRIENDLY! I walked in this morning past the two men working at the register and neither acknowledged me. They did however greet the guy that walked in 6 paces behind me. No-one helped me as I looked for the wine I came in for - I found it in a case under the display. I then purchased a couple bottles of wine and champagne, well over $100 and asked for a box which the tool at the register refused to give me. The GIANT stack of empty boxes were too precious to part with for a well paying customer. He then was so nice enought to Man-splain to me that these are WINE bottles and won't break. I'll concede everything everyone else has already said about this cavernous barn. It's so large that it straddles at least five dimensions. The warehouse has vodka, single malt Scotch, cognac, Armagnac, wine, rum, beer, soda, absinthe, turpentine and other industrial solvents. It's a life affirming epiphany the first time you find it. It's hidden behind DirecTV, surrounded by a menacing satellite farm that looks like the sarcophagus in Chernobyl, and backs it up with an eerie hum that ripples like a digital blow dryer, transmitting shitty entertainment worldwide in the blink of an eye. My favorite thing -besides getting drunk in the parking lot- is arguing with the cantankerous old register guy. I don't know his name, but he's knowledgeable about his entire stock of product, and will happily challenge you if you buy something he's decided is worthless drek. I was gushing about a bottle of Lagavulin, my favorite single malt that has such an intense smoky palate you'd think they picked it fresh from a forest fire. He gently informs me how terrible and bleak it is, and what a tasteless amateur I must be for not recognizing it's meritless taste. He suggested an Ardbeg 18 year instead. He wasn't mean spirited, but was ballsy enough to relay how "The Ardbeg kicked everyone's ass when the sales rep conducted a tasting. We were fucking wasted." I respect someone who's been an active member of AARP for sixty years and still enjoys the taste, but acknowledges the real reason for drinking. Cheap booze, opinionated staff, uncompromising alcoholism. It's a small extension of Vegas right here in cozy Culver City. read more

This place has been my go-to Westside liquor store for years. They have the biggest selection of bourbon, whiskey, mezcal, and every other spirit within 50 miles. Sometimes their allocated, hard to get stuff might be a little pricey, but that's California liquor stores for you. If they get, they know someone will pay for it. A friend of mine was looking for a Filipino wine, but came upon Filipino Vodka instead. Yes, Vodka. I believe it's infused/distilled from coconuts. Didn't try it out yet with him, but hopefully he hasn't finished the entire bottle yet. Think of this place as a Mom and Pop "BevMo", but they don't sell just alcoholic beverages. They also had sodas/energy drinks/water. If you live in the Westside and what to keep it local, this is the place to go for your party needs (as far as liquid refreshments are concerned). Yes, my 200th review and I have saved this special place for this event. THIS IS MY SOURCE FOR HARD LIQUOR - BEST IN LA. I should not be posting this review, because the parking lot is not big enough to handle too many more people. A good selection of beer, a not-so-impressive assortment of wine, a large selection of liqueurs, cordials & mixers and a MIND NUMBING COLLECTION OF QUALITY TEQUILA. The Tequila prices are the lowest everyday prices I have found in LA in 30 years of searching. Occasionally, there are door buster prices offered by some other establishments around LA, but they are short-lived and really don't offer the great prices on truly exceptional Tequila like Beverage Warehouse does. In the above-$50 per bottle level, their selection is very impressive. In the $30-50 level, their selection is staggering. In the above $100 per bottle level...well if you are drinking at this level you already know about Beverage Warehouse. If you thought you could not afford REALLY high end Tequila - you haven't been here, yet. You can afford it. Are you not so sure about what brand of hard liquor to buy? Someone on the staff can and will help you find the correct bottle for your tastes and wallet. Where else in LA can you find two brands of Guaro (Costa Rica), four brands of Pisco (Peru) and four brands of Cachaca (Brazil) all in the same store? Looking for a special gift for a special person, stop here and snoop around - you will find it. It is in a commercial industrial park in the middle of nowhere just off the 90 freeway at Culver. Don't give up, keep looking. You can check their website for their inventory, but like a lot of warehouse places, they get stuff in all the time and the website doesn't always reflect their current inventory. How much alcohol do they have at the Beverage Warehouse? Okay, here's an example. Say you're Irish. I mean you're from Ireland Irish - not the kind of Irish that 75% of all Caucasians in the United States are, mixed with German. And say you are, for some reason craving Paddy Irish whiskey - not because it's necessarily the best Irish whiskey out there, but because in your entire stay in California, you've never seen a bottle for sale in a liquor store, nor have you encountered a bottle at even the best stocked Irish pubs and whiskey bars in Los Angeles. What do you do, short of flying to Ireland and bringing a bottle back from duty-free? Well, you waltz into the Beverage Warehouse, and you go to the Irish whiskey section. And, sure enough, right next to the Jameson, the John Powers, the Bushmills, the Kilbeggan...there it is. a one Liter bottle of Paddy Irish whiskey. For about $30. Mission accomplished. Here's another example. Say you like absinthe. Say you like it so much that you want to smack every person you encounter in a bar that says, "But that's not REAL absinthe - not like the stuff you get in the Czech Republic. It doesn't have the wood worm in it here..." Okay - so we've established you like absinthe. Well, you can go into the Beverage Warehouse and find a decent selection of absinthe brands there. At one time, I would have said that the best brand they carry is the St. George. It's still a favorite of mine, and at $80 it's about $10-$20 less expensive than anywhere else you'll buy it (other than the St. George distillery). But, today, I would say the Mansinthe is the best quality absinthe they carry there; and at $57, it's a steal. In fact, I considered going to the Beverage Warehouse and buying another one or two bottles before writing this review. Yes, the Beverage Warehouse is to alcohol what that secret Army room at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark was to wooden crates. You'll find what you're looking for here, and for a good price. This is the scaled down, more costco looking BevMo in an industrial park way looking joint.... But at the same time, this blows BevMo out of the water. Sure, it's in a creepy area that you'd probably feel like you're not going to be enjoying any alcohol once your kidney is sold in one of these industrial parkway storage containers, but just stay the course... I would advise to take the stress off by taking a drink but then I realize.. that's the whole purpose of going here! Duh. And I have to say, this place has a slew of alcohol filled drinking options. Racks and racks of bottles and more bottles.. and the occasional can - Cause they are really a good option for beer may I add. They have just about anything you could possibly be looking for. If at worse, there's wine just down the parking area at the wine warehouse. But the beverage warehouse is stacked full of hard liquor and beers. And they have a lot of beers.. I mean, a lot of them. You'll find whatever you may be looking for here. Hell, they got in a good number of cases of Pliny the elder. That should tell you something about this place. They know what's good and they get it. The prices are also pretty comparable and if not, just slightly cheaper than most places I have seen the same bottles. They got craft beers here you have got to try. They also sell by the case. Something I rarely see the L.A. area. Not to mention enjoying a couple of bucks for buying in bulk. Oh yeah, the customer service here is really top notch. So this is where all the Rittenhouse Rye is. I've found the secret stash you guys. All of our fighting over the scant supply of bottles in the Oregon Liquor Stores could be easily solved by raiding this warehouse. I saw at least four cases just sitting out in the aisle here, as part of an end-cap. This makes me want to both hate and love this place at the same time. Beverage Warehouse has everything the un-creative name implies. It's a warehouse full of booze. The selection here is beyond impressive. Anything and everything I could want (for the most part) was here on these no-frills industrial shelves. I can only dream about having a store like this in Portland. Even our highest-level specialty stores don't have half the selection this place does. And the prices? Reasonable! Totally in line with what they should be. I have a large bar selection at home, but have been struggling to fill out the tequila and mescal section. Bevmo just doesn't cut it in this department. That's where Beverage Warehouse comes in. This place is the bomb! They have about 15 different mescals to choose from. Bevmo? They have ZERO. Beverage Warehouse has over a hundred tequilas as well, including some very hard to find like Aha Toro. I get SO tired of people telling me they know alcohol, and then recommending Jose Cuervo tequila. That's like telling me you know music and then recommending Nickleback. In other words, HELL NO! The only thing I don't like about this place is the location, it's way out near Playa Vista/Marina Del Rey. If you can make it that far, it's totally worth it! If you really want the best selection in all of Los Angeles, and want to be an alcohol connoisseur, you HAVE to make the Beverage Warehouse pilgrimage a regular thing. The gloriousness of this tucked away gem shouldn't be shared, but I can't help myself. I used to come here with my parents, when they were shopping for their "adult drinks" when I was little, and when I could shop there myself, it became impossible to not laugh at any other store selling alcohol. Literally. My bf took me to a BevMo in Thousand Oaks, and I walked around pointing out the ridiculousness, laughing like a hyena the whole time. I'm a beer girl, I dig on Champagne but where my heart truly lies is in Ales of all shapes, sizes, flavors, colors etc. The warehouse offers a huge selection of beers for an amazing price. I love that you can select single beers, create your own six-er from the single shelf, and basically taste test. My bf, has a man crush on that guy from Three Sheets the TV show on that (now cancelled) Mojo channel. This store has it all honestly. You want a specific beer? This place will most likely have it. It is a little hard to find as its in the very back of an industrial like area. Once you see the big green sign you will know you have found Heaven. Their prices are a little high for being a wholesale place or a place that buys in bulk. When I am in the area of Total Wine I choose to stop by Total Wine because their prices are cheaper. If you want that certian beer though then this is the place.. Enjoy! read more
