Following this logic, everyone should also have a beer guy, and BlackBeard's my beer guy. The selection is great and you'll find your old favorites, along with weird funky ones you would have never thought to try. The store is dark like a cave, but not too dim, and it's worth exploring for some hidden beer treasures. I find it cool that the real rare beers get posted on Blackbeard's Instagram stories , and instead of running to the store, you can just place an order online via their website for pickup! I did this today and it was super easy with no added fees. Also just gotta mention how cool Blackbeard himself is. Dude literally has a black beard. Very communicable had has kept me in the loop many times for rare finds I told him I was looking out for. Parking is perfectly open here btw, don't let the store being on Sawtelle fool you. I'm upset that I haven't reviewed Blackbeard's sooner, this Beer and Wine store is my go to spot for the classy adult beverages. The customer service is always amazing the workers will literally walk around with you and help you look for your perfect beer or wine. They sell mostly all the local brewery beers in or around Los Angeles and in the greater California area. Same with the wine they have wines from all over California wineries in store. Is this guy asking everyone to see if the name on their credit card matches the name on their ID? I doubt it. I have never been asked this anywhere else or by anyone else. And he's told me both times he's done this that is the reason why he needed to see my ID - not to verify my age. He could've simply said "ID" and I wouldn't have thought anything of it. The fact that he wanted me to know that he didn't believe that the credit card I was using is mine doesn't sit right with me. I stopped by a different time and one of the other employees didn't ask to see my ID to make sure the name on my credit card matched my ID, which is normal. So it's just him who does this I guess. It's the guy with the big beard who's done this both times. Possibly Blackbeard himself? The credit card is mine btw. I've verified it two separate times to the same person. I wrote up a review the first time this happened but deleted it. I don't really do reviews. The fact that the same thing happened a second time months later made me feel like I should go through with it. I'm back in the area for a couple days. I won't be stopping by this time. read more

This is the absolute best craft beer spot in West LA. I've come many times before and they have a great selection and variety. The staff is super nice and helpful (I asked for a few recommendations). Been a couple times now and the staff is always super helpful and knowledgeable but in like a chill way where they don't care if you buy anything they are just actually interested in the beers and spirits they sell. And, speaking of the products they sell WOW what a rad and eclectic selection from saki, ciders, hard kombucha, every type of beer, and even mead made according to Viking recipe. The staff advice if you haven't tried something has always been good and reliable and they don't make you feel dumb for asking or not knowing... they just seem happy to help. BAD: - My biggest complaint is the lack of price labels. Certain items were labeled but many were not. I know it's a hassle to label each individual can (they sell a lot of solo cans/bottles) but it's also a huge hassle for the customer to have to ask the busy employee in regard to every can. The alternative is that you pick a few things blindly and then get slapped with a huge price tag. One of the single beers I chose ended up being 7.99. I would have never splurged so much. I'm not accusing them of using such a tactic (they seemed like nice people) but it's nonetheless the result. My favorite craft beer shop in LA (Valley Beverage Company) has a bigger selection and every single can is labeled. It's doable and makes a big difference for the customer. Since most breweries are closed right now during Covid-19, we stopped by here to pick-up some craft beers, mainly sours and hazy IPAs. My husband and I are huge fans of Wild Barrel Brewing (located in San Marcos, CA) so we were super excited to see that they carried a couple of their sours on their website! I also really liked how convenient it was to be able to just order their beers through their website and pick-up in store after! They have a really great selection of different beers (IPAs, Hazy IPAs, Stouts, Cider Beers, Pale Ales, Sours, etc). After placing our order online, we went to go pick-up our order the next day. When we arrived there was only metered street parking available but plenty of it. Upon walking in, someone greeted us at the door and we appreciated that they gave us gloves to wear. After going inside, we went to look around their store to see what other beers they had that may not have been available on their website. And we did end up grabbing some more beers plus a more pricey bottle of sour ale by Sour Cellars (Forchard), which was recommended by one of the guys there! If you are unsure of what is good, I recommend asking one of the friendly workers here as they seem very knowledgeable of the beers they carry! We finally approached the register to check-out and pay for the rest of the beers we found! And if you check-in on Yelp, you can get 10% off your purchase. Overall, we spent around $200 but it was money well spent!! :) Also, just a FYI, Tsujita is not too far here, which is where we went after to pick up our Tsukemen ramen for dinner!
