Having moved to Morton Grove, I was hopeful that I would find a good Thai restaurant closer to home rather than driving to Lincoln Square in the city. Unfortunately, this restaurant was a huge disappointment. It started with the service. We walked in and no one greeted us. We finally just decided to sit in a booth. The server took a while to come to our table and asked us how many waters we wanted when it was clear there were 4 of us. The water she brought was lukewarm and tasted like it came straight from the sink faucet. We ordered a smoothie for the kids and she seemed annoyed, saying it would take 20 minutes. We remained polite however and ordered our dinner. The appetizer combo was edible but not the best. The chicken satay needed seasoning and was dry. The Pad See Ew was ok but nothing special. My husband ordered the Tiger Cry and it tasted like it was microwaved and wasn't seasoned at all. All the meat from the appetizer and entrees tasted old like it was reheated. This place recently stopped selling sushi so I don't see the point of going there anymore. Just mediocre thai food, most things are alright but don't get the Lard Nar, it was pretty gross. Hana Asian Bistro has a larger selection, serves sushi, and is right down the road. read more

I had the lunch special for $6.95. It included a choice of entree, soup and a side. I chose the Hot and Sour Soup, Red Curry, and the Crab Rangoon. It also included rice and a Salad with ginger dressing. Everything was outstanding. What st ood out most for me was the soup. It was as good as I have ever had. Yum! Check this place out! read more

My first rule of restaurants - Remember someone is making food for you instead of YOU making dinner, Enjoy that, people! We have eaten here several times in the past few years, and have always had a delicious meal. Yesterday was no exception - I had the yakisoba noodles with chicken and hubby had red curry and gyoza appetizer which were all yummy. We had some time constraints, but our service was just fine. Looked like we had time for dessert, so we ordered the Thai Custard. And waited - for about 15 minutes. Hubby was getting antsy, so we went up to the counter to ask, and he wanted to pay our bill and leave. The waitress looked hurt, said that the cook was MAKING OUR CUSTARD and it would soon be ready. That was our mistake - we are used to the cold flan-type custard or crème brulee which is pre-made and then maybe flamed for a crust and assumed that would be the case here. To have someone actually make it from scratch - oh my it was worth waiting for. It arrive soon after. Two lovely squares of 3-layer custard, scored & flame caramelized on top with cashews in a sweet sauce. It was delicious, the cashews added the right crunch and salt and the custard was just sweet enough. We were humbled that this small place would take the time to create his lovely tasty treat on the spot. What was our hurry anyway?? Really, it made us appreciate the work that goes into a restaurant. Folks who make food for other folks and try to please as many as possible have a very difficult dance indeed. Of course we will be back. read more

Awesome place! Thanks to the post (and reviews) on Yelp, I gave Beyond Thai a try tonight. Love that it is a BYOB; a rarity in suburbia! The food was great; my standard is Red Curry with Tofu ... and it definitely is high on the list! And what a deal; dinner for two with tax and tip under $25! I've ordered from here before, and the food was fine, but I just got off the phone with an employee who has put me off this place PERMANENTLY. I asked one simple question for clarification, and this woman started -- no exaggeration -- YELLING at me. Like she was at the absolute end of her rope. Like she had had more than enough of me. I had been on the phone with her for no more than ten seconds at this point, and had asked a single question. And she totally lost it. You just can't do business like this. read more

It looks like a diner. But the food was really good. We had the spring rolls which were fresh and tasty. I had the Massaman Curry with vegetables. It was perfectly spicy-didn't overwhelm the flavor. (I like it a little spicy so I asked for more than medium) My friend had Pad Thai and loved it. It's BYOB. So we ran out and got some. Not huge portions No leftovers but I was full. The food at Beyond Thai is beyond amazing. This humble restaurant on a quiet part of Church St in Skokie has everything you look for on a Thai menu and more. I just tried their chicken wings last night, and my parents - including my dad who is Thai - really loved them. We loved the curry, wide noodles, and soft shell crab. My mom, who loves milder food, enjoyed the sesame chicken, and I must say, it was all good. We ordered several other small dishes to compliment the flavorful assortment, such as cucumber salad with red onions. Everything was fresh, and fried items, like the wings, melt in your mouth like it just popped out of the fryer (because it did!). Really great food and good service. read more

I have been here twice. The Pad See Ew, crab rangoons and all the rice dishes are amazing. If you ask for spicy, you get SPICY. The service is hit or miss. Food comes out fast and fresh. Not so good with customization of dishes. read more

Went there today with my husband and two teens based on reviews from Yelp. Not sure how that waitress still has a job. There were only two other people in the whole restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday. She greeted us like we were annoying her, walked away from our table mid-order and then came back and asked if we wanted drinks. Each time we gave her our drink order, she made a face, but when my daughter ordered a smoothie she literally rolled her eyes at her. That's when we got up, told her to cancel our order and walked out. Why are some reviews so great for this place and some so terrible...could it be certain people are treated one way and other people another way ....hard to tell, but very suspect. The atmosphere was run down but we were thinking, if the food got such good reviews, we would give it a try. Sorry to say we have no clue what the food tastes like because the customer service was soooo bad that we left. Update- just read several past reviews saying how rude the waitress/customer service was and the response from the owner was "this is not acceptable..." but clearly it is acceptable or it wouldn't be happening for several YEARS. It's pretty simple: have a CLEAN restaurant, great customer service and people will flock to your restaurant...you are losing money left and right by not hiring the right people. SMH read more

Good solid Thai place. Has a decent ambiance with loads of Kenny G playing in the background ;). Food was good for lunch at about $7 per plate. That gets you an appetizer, soup, salad and an entree! And it's tasty too! The outside is a strip mall and parking is limited but the inside is nice. Service was decent. Don't expect a staff though. There was like this middle aged Thai lady reading the newspaper in the corner (out of site so it wasn't creepy), but that is he sort of casual less formal feel of the place. I've had a TON worse than than this and this is is one of the better places I went. A solid option and solid 4 out of 5 in my book. :) read more

First time here and it was a good experience. Decided as a last minute dinner after a quick yelp search in the area. I got the crab Rangoon as the yelp offer and it was easy, quick and yummy. Small and not overly cream cheesy. Tom yum soup was really good. I had yellow curry with beef. It was also good....maybe a little thin..but tasty. Service was good. They were short and to the point. For the price and quality, I would come again if I'm in the area. They are no longer serving sushi. This was a disappointment. We were there mid January and they were still playing Christmas themed muzak in the restaurant. The menus were damaged. The tablecloth had a green stain on it (an old one, it still seemed clean). The Thai Ice Tea was very good. The crab Rangoon were pretty good. Our meal came with a cute little side salad that was nice. The spicy tum yum soup was horrible and we couldn't figure out why. I almost spit it out. The pad Thai was mediocre. Great Thai food. Pineapple fried rice (with cashews) is to die for! I get it with shrimp because they give a lot for the small upcharge. My wife loves the spicy beef salad (called Nam Sod in most other places) and I love all of their curry dishes. read more

3 stars at best. Food was mediocre. Fried tofu was tough and not very flavorful, Vietnamese spring rolls were okay, but our entrees were good. Red curry (veg) and ginger shrimp both pretty good. Service was pretty bad. The lady was not attentive and it was hard to even get eye contact when we need something (only one other table so not due to being busy), she seemed frustrated and Even picked up one our personal belongings (a book for my daughter to read while we were there) and just tossed it on a chair without saying anything. I ordered the Lime Chicken and the Tempura appetizer. Both were excellent. If you don't want the breading, tell them so. The only thing I like better somewhere else is the Spring Rolls. For that I go to Opari Thai. But I order the Crab Rangoon regularly. It's also some of the best I've had. read more

Best Veggie Panang curry I have ever had. Crispy tofu could have been crispier, but still very much enjoyed the balance of sweet and spicy.

I am shocked this place has 4 stars as it was a bust on everything. First, the service is horrendous. The woman who came to our table told my daughter no sushi (she wanted sashimi which was on the menu) then walked away. No water. No hello. No smile. We ordered the gyoza, ginger salmon special and pad woon sen. First she gave us the WRONG noodles. They were the fat wide noodles that I hate! The salmon was overcooked and quite a small portion. Nothing tasted fresh. The place needed a major cleaning and she kept slamming the plates on the table without saying anything friendly. There was a speaker phone and a t.v. blaring the entire time and I had to put Pandora on my phone to drown out the loud sounds and christmas music (its February). I would NEVER come here again. I wish we had eaten at Panda Express--honestly their food is better and not so expensive. Ruby of Siam is pricey, but is quality food, atmosphere and service. read more

Solid Thai food. I had the panaeng chicken curry and my friend had beef pad see ew and we got a free crab rangoon appetizer thanks to checking in. Rangoon's shell tasted a little too flour-y and my curry was a little too runny, but the flavor in everything was good. Not the best Thai food I've ever had, but still solid. read more

I love this place! BYOB is a great option. The sushi menu is diverse and everything on it is great in portion and taste. My faves are the Green Turtle and the Skokie Crazy, owner is very nice and remembers my friend and I every time we go in....but that's probably because we've been going there almost every Sunday for the last couple months. Prices are fantastic especially compared to the sushi/Thai places in my neighborhood in Chicago and food is better than most of those more expensive places. I'd much rather drive to Skokie nowadays for my sushi! I hope people find this place because it is off the main drag just around the corner from Old Orchard Mall and could get passed on with all the big name chain restaurants but I have to say...make the effort to check this place out if you're in the neighborhood shopping or staying at one of the nearby hotels....totally worth it! read more
