We've been coming to Bharat Bazar to buy our produce for several years now. It pains me to write a bad review but every time we come, we are turned off by the staffs bad attitudes and lack of professionalism. I don't expect anyone to be overly friendly but a simple "hello" can go a long way when we're at the cash register. I'll make my whole purchase without the cashier ever looking at me. They won't even hand me my receipt in my hand, they'll just toss it with my products to bag. Some times they've been on the phone while working too! It's really inappropriate and worth improving. I've been coming to this store for over 8 years, and this was one of my worst experiences here. At checkout, I pointed out that a salt container was leaking. Instead of addressing it, the cashier asked me twice if my son had caused the damage, which was unnecessary and uncomfortable. I then opened a pack of biscuits for my son and found it completely crushed. When I showed it, she told me that I still had to take it and pay for it. That is not acceptable - damaged products should be replaced or removed, not forced on the customer. When I asked for the manager, the cashier told me to go to the back of the store to find them myself. I had my child with me and asked for the manager to be called to the counter, but the cashier resisted multiple times. Even small things, like being told to go outside to use a trash can after I had already used one near the counter, were handled in a rigid and unfriendly way. I have had good experiences here in the past, especially with Sharanjeet ji and Kuldeep ji, but interactions like this reflect poorly on the store. Customer concerns should be handled with basic courtesy, not suspicion or inflexibility. read more

I have been shopping at Bharat Bazaar on Reed Avenue for over 10 years. They have a wide variety of Indian spices and grains and they are reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The lady manager was especially helpful to listen to my complaint over a product that I purchased and also refunded the money. I would recommend this store to everyone. read more

Bharat Bazar - the outside of a restaurant at night - Grocery Near Me - Sunnyvale, California

Been coming here as a long as I can remember and I think my favorite part about this store is they have ready to eat samosas at the checkout line. Every time my parents would get groceries from this place they always pick me up a couple to snack on. Besides the checkout line, the location is hard to miss since it's at the corner of the intersection and they also got plenty of parking! I know they also have an online order service so you can pre select your items before you come into the store to pick them up. I haven't personally tried it yet but it seems convenient. I placed an order yesterday- and it was impressively legit. They had pictures of the products, the pounds/oz, and a "subsitute" option. I'm outside of delivery, so I picked the pick-up in store option. Checked off substitute on some. Got a call this morning from Nithin, who was so nice and helpful, he walked me through the big substitutions he asked to make and asked if I wanted to go over the smaller substitutions and I said no it's fine you can pick. I'm a regular at Apna Bazaar- yes the 24/7 and free cha is great- but let's be real about the... "friendly" nature of the workers there ... compared to that store- all I'm saying is this guy is nice, professional and actually made helpful suggestions and answered my QUESTIONS. I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, but if you're looking for suggestions or ever have a question... you probably wanna be shopping here, not there. Got to the store (4 hours after my pickup time, oops) and masks were required (check). Doors were already open (so I didn't have to touch them - check)- and then I stood in line (aisles 6 feet apart with tape markings- check). Told the cashier I had a pick up- she told me to wait. She got Nithin, he checked my ID (check) and said to only take the 3 that were mine. He had an iPad with him and asked if I wanted to add anything to my order before I go- I said nope. The bags' handles were taped shut to prevent... thieves?- apparently? (check). And small, similar items were also grouped together in like those clear produce bags. Coronavirus safety-wise- I mean, these guys did everything right and hit all my check marks. I got some mangos and I opened the bag and damn near cried- they smelled sooooo good. I have never picked mangoes like whoever picked these babies. Needless to say, one immediately disappeared That's the only produce I ordered, but seems like they put some care into it. Also- mango milkshake recipe for ya'll- vanilla ice cream, fresh mango, splash of milk and a tiny pinch of saffron, blend and with a tiny scoop of ice cream - thank me later. Bharat Bazar - Taped up bag - Grocery Near Me - Sunnyvale, California

I used to go here as this store is very close to Costco. I had a doubt that the prices are higher recently. Today, I got the evidence. I needed a cauli flower., I went to the Bharat Bazar. I saw few somewhat old looking regular caulflower and is priced at $4.99 a piece. I felt that its a high price. So I did not buy. On my way home, I went to whole foods to buy banana. While buying that, I glanced at cauli flower. There it was. Wholefoods is selling ORGANIC, FRESH cauli flower at $4.99. I expect that other stores will be selling INORGANIC Cauliflower that $2.99. So these guys are getting $2 per item. Now if I buy something like 5 items, I will lose $10. I will stay away from this store. I also see a lot of recent reviews mentioning higher prices. -----------update------ The above happened on 2/3/2023 (friday). On 2/4/2023 (saturday), I visited "India cash and carry" and bought INORGANIC , not so fresh cauliflower for $3.75. So Bharat Bazar is definitely hiking the prices upto 33% per item. The place is great for most stuff you may want. Kinda a typical Indian mart. However, disappointed at measures taken for COVID sanitation. Yes employees wearing masks, and they have taped the ground to separate people. All standard stuff. However, they have no sanitizer or soap for use, and I don't see anyone wiping down carts or baskets. And they're still serving food (samosas and snacks) out in the open, with barely even a sneeze guard. Other stores have shut down such things. Def will not be getting pre made food from here again. It's very confusing how there are two stores close to each other with almost identical names. I've now moved my review to the right business page. I haven't visited this store in a while, so the quality may have gotten better. When I visit again, I will update this review accordingly. ---------- 2 stars for produce. 4 stars for everything else. I've been coming to Bharat for several months mainly for produce, which is always hit or miss. Produce on the shelves goes bad quickly, as there's no mist system to keep it fresh, and it doesn't seem like anybody does it manually with a spray bottle. I come for the relatively cheap prices, and I usually find a few veggies that are new enough such that they're not dried out yet. Today the produce was particularly bad. The tomatoes were all old and mushy, and I barely found five that seemed edible. There was even a collection of tomatoes on the floor in an open drain, with some kind of gunk around it. Pretty gross. Everything else was pretty much dried out. There was some fruit that was noticeably cracked open and noticeably dry on the inside. Stuff like this should not be sold! Finally I decided to try my luck with the Valencia oranges. I couldn't find any that were good- they were either mushy, or unripe. The apples and bananas looked alright, but I didn't need any today. The onions also looked good, which is not always the case- sometimes I find them either dried out or growing mold. This store does have a good selection of snacks, curries, beans, grains and breads, as well as a decent collection of DVD and CD titles, so props to them for that. But they really need to shape up in the produce department. tl;dr: Produce here is a mixed bag, most of the time not very fresh. Everything else in the store is ok. read more

If u r a pure veggie this is the worst place for u to go. And also the samosas in the store next to billing counter are most of the time stale We are back here today to get chapathy. Fairly large place for various Indian grocery and lifestyle items. They do have a good selection of Indian specific soft drinks like Pakola Ice Cream Soda (tastes like kulfi ice cream), a masala soda called Rim Zim (yes there are jokes built into that one), Limca and Thums Up Cola. I generally go here to visit the restaurant inside (bawarchi) but getting snacks like samosas and such are decent. Customer service isn't the greatest so be prepared going in. read more

This is an Indian grocery with Bawarchi, a walk up food counter, located inside the store. The store is spacious and light with loads of merchandise clearly laid out. Lots of room between the aisles. I didn't buy any groceries as I was here to order take-out from Bawarchi but I had a chance to look around while waiting for my food. From my limited observation, I'd say Bawarchi brings this place down. It appears so dirty that I'm not sure I trust the store's hygiene, whether that's fair or not. Maybe if I'd gone to shop and not to pick up take-out I'd feel differently. I don't know. Anyway, nice calm store, open and airy, not bad. read more

I've been coming here on occasion for the past few years. I enjoy trying the different offerings, especially in the frozen food section, since I'm neither skilled nor brave enough to try cooking Indian food on my own. The frozen dinners, in my opinion, are a bit overpriced. However, I'll admit that I don't really have a good frame of reference. At stores like Safeway and Lucky's, I can can find frozen meals for around $2; at Bharat Bazaar they're generally $3 or more. But maybe that's par for frozen meals like these. My biggest quibble with this store, however, is the produce. The quality always seems to be a little poor. There's a little restaurant inside the store that offers a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The prices seem reasonable, but the quality is hit-or-miss. For example, I recently got a large order of butter chicken, and received perhaps 5 small chunks of chicken and a lot of curry sauce. The goat curry that I got at the same time appeared to have large meat chunks, but it turned out to be mostly bone. The restaurant also has a all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. I've never had it, but took a peek when I was there last month. It seems to offer a decent array of choices (though only 1 or 2 non-vegetarian dishes, as I recall). The only indian grocery store that during the Coronavirus outbreak did not increase the price by even a cent on any products, including those in high demand even when they were running out of stock. If you want to shop with confidence that you are getting the best value for your money even during high demand periods then this is the place for you. The great location, ample parking, lots of space and choice inside the store, and farm fresh veggies every weekend, are just some other reasons why this is my favorite store. Unlike most other Indian grocery stores that don't price tag most items so that you shop without price context, they take the trouble to make sure everything is properly tagged and I have never found a discrepancy at the checkout. This is hands-down the best Indian store I have visited. Not only does the store have a wide variety of products, but everything is also well organized. The vegetables are incredibly fresh, of high quality, and fairly priced. This store carries several brands and sizes of all Indian essentials, along with Indian clothes and jewelry. Bharat Bazaar also has fresh samosas at check-out. When I went to the store, I saw some remainders of items for Diwali celebration. I will definitely be back in the near future! read more

Prices are too high compared to other Indian store. Tea leaves were $5.99 where you can get the same product for $3.99 from other Indian store. Same thing with multiple other items where price is higher than other Indian store. Never going to shop there. read more

Went to buy 24Mantra organic sona masoori rice, the price they have put is 23.99$ which is much higher compared to other stores. Luckily I returned the item and went to apna bazar and the price is 17$. Not sure why they increased the prices. read more

I could give zero star if I were a option here in Yelp. I have noticed a number of times they bill more than what I purchase. It happened to me a number of times and 2 days back I had purchased some grocery items and once I reached home was verifying my items with their price. Not to my surprise, I saw that one of the item they put quantity 2 instead of 1 and billed double. So usually what they do, they put the quantity more than what you purchase so that its difficult for you to prove and they can easily deny. The very next they when I when and tried to explain, they refused to give me refund. I am not sure where to file a complain against them but I really want to do that. They are cheaters. read more

Excellent online shopping experience. Every unavailable item was confirmed over a phone call and even information on freshness of vegetables was very transparent. Have tried Kappa with Fish curry. Kappa was done just an average way. Fish curry was damn too spicy that I couldn't even take a bite despite of my high spice tolerance. The one star because the fish curry was totally screwed. read more

Beware what you buy here, especially in the frozen section. I should've known better not to, but i picked up some a packet of lamb kebabs from here, from the frozen section. I came home and within 2 minutes of opening the box, the house was smelling like a dead rat - the kabobs were not just spoiled, they have decomposed and turned into a paste. I looked at the Best Before date on the packet, and the date has been changed by the store people with a new sticker on top of the original. Avoid this place completely if you don't want the worst quality of food which will leave to severe food poisoning. I have already reported them to the food authorities and will make sure the owners pay the price for this disgusting lack of ethics. read more

I am editing due to the comment posted so I can clarify my review: Dude. Be careful when you shop here. They have some good prices on things, but check EVERY expiration date. Chips we bought had permanent marker on the "don't eat if past date"....very illegal. (edit: okay, even if I *did* confuse is for the sell by date, which I didn't, why is there permanent marker over it to begin with?) (These chips were bought by me and then I realized the shiny permanent marker mark. Maybe your store did not do it, but someone did, to all the chips I had bought. I rubbed and rubbed, and saw it was an expiration date, a Best By: date. That was the only thing I ever bought from there that was like that, so I guess no big deal). Also, I was going to pick up some frozen foods - and the freezer was HOT. All the food in those three freezers was melted. That's just insane!!! Of course no one is going to be stupid enough to buy any melted food, but can you imagine all the food spoiled (which I'm sure it all was, it was like 100 degrees in the freezers) and then being frozen again? Damn. (Good to know it was fixed a long time ago.) That being said, they have schwerma seasoning. (Now there is no limit to using a debit/credit card). read more

Don't be fooled about the dumpy look of this store. It's actually on the corner of Lawrence and El Camino Real behind the Taco Bell. It is indeed dumpy and hard to find. But, there is great selection, better prices than India Cash and Carry, shorter lines, more homewares items and so on. I'd give them more stars if their store presented nicer but that doesn't put me off. I have never noticed Safeway reject produce here. Yes, it's in a box on the sidewalk but it's always looked good to me. They only have 2 checkers but the lines aren't nearly as long as IC&C. In fact, today at IC&C the line snaked halfway around the store on the skinny aisles and by produce so you could barely get by to do some shopping. I like the aisle size here at Bharat Bazar. I can actually get by someone and their cart as they are looking for something. What a concept! I'd been looking for a small pressure cooker. This is the only place I've seen them and they had several different brands from which to choose. I split between here and IC&C. If during the week I go there. On the weekend I go here. I will probably start to go here first and then if I don't find what I'm looking for (unlikely) I will head up the street to IC&C and the craziness there. I think most of the prices are better here too. Today I bought a small rolling pin for roti at IC&C for $4.99. Then, moments later I saw the exact same one here at Bharat for only $2.99. WTF?!!!! - Most unhygienic indian store in south bay. Never dare to buy frozen marinated meats and cooked food from them - They sometimes also don't have the most basic stuff that you'll assume every Indian store should have. - The lady in parlour inside the store is extremely stupid and doesn't know her job well. She shaved off my eyebrows twice in 4 times i went to her, that's 50% success rate :) - When i sometimes asked guys working on the counter or call them to confirm if they have xyz thing. They'll always say yes. But later i discovered they never understood what i was looking for and just said yes without trying to understand or ask back again. This is really stupid. Store clerks are mean and have a lot of attitude. I touched a samosa to see if it's fresh or not. The lady told us to have to buy it. We said sorry and bought it. This is my neighborhood Indian grocery in a neighborhood with a lot of Indian groceries. It's a big one with a large selection of dairy and frozen products as well as very well priced fresh vegetables. I've never had a product quality problem here. The produce is not always the most shiny, but is often half the price of a regular grocery, and always with good flavor. This is where I'd go if I wanted some tropical fruit, yogurt or produce staples for cooking. I also get things like canned mango, salt, lime juice, coconut milk and so on. They've got a whole aisle or two of wonderful spices, and another aisle filled with pretty much every grain known to man. It's definitely a welcoming place for everyone - not just Indians. Checkout is fast and modern, and parking has never been a problem for me when I've stopped by on the way home. They also have a decent selection of specialized cooking apparatus, and a restaurant and video rental place inside that I've never been to. read more
