Only reason I go to this store is because its close to my home. Worst thing of this store is prices. If you compare prices on few items they are expensive than other Indian Grocery Store. My biggest problem is how they do not mark prices on many of the produces and wrong sticker on grocery items. I feel like I should complain this to some officials etc. For example I got one Tamarind packet, sticker marked says "1.49" but in the bill it is 1.99. Similarly on many fresh produce they do not have any marking at all. There are many such example... For some items prices will be listed at some other spot and item will be at different spot. Anytime you go into a ethnic market you just hope you do not look or sound stupid to stand out so much where people laugh at you or feel like you don't "belong" and for the first time in a while THIS place allowed me to do what I came there to do, shop with peace of mind. I've went into Asian Markets and more than not I get dirty looks, looks like what am I doing there, and sometimes unfortunately just overall rude service however even though this was my first venture into a Indian market this place from the moment I walked in I never felt out of place. I am more and more loving Indian food and spices. Finding spots to buy and try out new foods and recipes are important and this place had lots of variety for whatever you need. There was even a lunch buffet for around $8. Now normally a buffet at a market is a recipe for disaster like wearing a European thong at a US beach however the food was actually good. Now are we talking fine dining good, of course not, but we're talking tasty and go for seconds good. The guy who worked at the eatery was very nice, talked with us about the different foods, and even joked about the hot spices. This review is specifically for their in-house restaurant and specifically specifically for the Egg Curry that I had the mis/fortune/mistake of ordering. It was the spiciest damn curry I've ever eaten. My mouth was on fire, which made me pray for my posterior which would inevitably experience the same raging inferno. My only solace was the boiled egg, but even then, the relief was akin to the brief pauses in a series of hot spankings i.e not enough relief and way too short (there were only two eggs in the curry. I had to ration them to survive). I couldn't stop eating it. There are times when I think fondly upon that experience through hell. There are times when I guiltily desire to relive that experience through hell. Basically, what I'm saying is that eating their Egg Curry is like the culinary equivalent of a particularly intense BDSM relationship. Truly authentic Kerala dishes! The beef fry immediately transports you to Kerala, the staff here is extremely friendly and reminds you of the Thattukada experience in Kerala. Would recommend upping the dine-in experience with a more expansive dining region and all. The exciting part of the experience is discovering the "secretive" Kerala menu, the regular menu doesn't show the beef fry. I don't know much about this market since I don't know many Indian food items. But I mainly come for the frozen section and the awesome cart they have near the registers. FOOD CART There is this food cart in between two of the registers at check out that I love to visit. There always samosas, round potato cakes, and rolls. -Samosas are delicious!!! They are filled with potatoes, peas, and simple spices. They taste great and the outer dough is crispy and delicious when eaten fresh. These samosas are delicious even when eaten cold or warmed for later. Get get me so full and they only costs 69 cents! They're also pretty big too! -Potato cakes are okay. They are pretty oily since they are deep fried and there isn't much flavor as the samosa. I mainly taste potato and oils. -Tikka rolls? I think that's what they're called. There are two kinds. I have only had the paneer roll. It is sweet and spicy and has paneer cheese and red onions. Even though they taste great I don't think they are worth the price. They costs $2.99 each and are pretty thin and not so filling. It good to try but it's worth more to buy the samosas for so much cheaper. FROZEN MEAL SECTION I love coming in when I'm hungry, don't feel like slaving over the stove, and want an affordable simple frozen dinner. They have great selections of frozen dinner plates that gets me satisfied and full. The frozen dinners are an average of $2.99. I highly recommend trying the Deep Foods, Inc Healthy Tiffin frozen dinners, especially the Kofta Curry. The curries are great, rice is spiced right, and the special side it comes with is just comforting. DEAD RAT This market isn't bad but there are some of flaws. They have giant box container where they'll pile featured vegetables so high and the quality of their produce isn't appealing. There was one day when I visited I noticed a dead rat right in front of the door. Over time the dead rat, which was never removed, began to dry up in the sun and shrivel until it ended up looking like a raggety sock. read more

This is my go to store for spices, dried beans and lentils, some frozen foods, ethnic items not available elsewhere, and occasionally produce( when I am on a tighter budget). I can walk in this store and by a HUGE cart of items and rarely pay over sixty dollars for it. When I say huge I am referring to the amount of food that can feed my family of seven for an entire week and that is far more than most household's in the Silicon Valley will need to buy. Spices: bulk packaging and super great prices. Produce: This is why I give the store four stars and not five. While the produce is very low cost and great for a tight budget it is not always top quality and it certainly is not organic. Bulks packages of Beans, lentils, rice, nuts, flour, etc...: Bharat is also wonderful for these items. The price is reasonable. Frozen Items: We love to buy the institutional packs of Samosas as a treat. They are really quite delicious and the price is very reasonable too. They also have prepared and frozen indian breads (poori, naan, rotis, chapatis, etc...) and we have sometimes purchased those as well. I have bought frozen vegetables as well and the price is very reasonable. We have also bought some of the ethnic cookware, cookware, kitchen utensils, serving vessels, incense, henna, and other small items the store sells. BOTTOM LINE: The service is always friendly and prompt, they carry the ethnic items I cannot get elsewhere, and the prices are fantastic. I would reccomend it to others. read more

This review is for the threading services. The grocery and food court part of it is great. I wish they provided chopped vegetables like other indian grocery stores though. Chicken fried rice in the food court is really good. The threading service is really not good. She did give a clean finish. On top of stressing about the thickness of the browline, she made it really thin. These things may sound silly, but they are not. Once the damage is done, you cannot go back on it. I live nearby so sometimes drop by Bharat Bazaar for staples. For some items, I give them 3 stars but overall a 2 star rating. The Good: They have very cheap eggplant. I love to make baba ghanoush and this place is so much cheaper than Safeway or other grocers. So occasionally I will buy them out of eggplant. They also have the best prices for lemons and limes I have found. But a lot of their other produce is in bad shape. They are a convenient place for inexpensive buttermilk, tahini and chutneys. Kind of random but I use these products. They also have an interesting selection of frozen goods. The Bad: Overall, the produce is not good. It's often old and occasionally there are fruit flies. The quality control is poor. One time my husband noticed bags of open grain infested with bugs. Still, some of their grain, like basmati rice, looks fine. It's hit or miss. The service varies from friendly to stony silence. I've gotten over it - just get in and get out with my purchases. read more

Besides being a grocery store, this place has a mini-restaurant. Just place your order at the counter, take a seat and your food will arrive. For the few times I've been there, I've always ordered the Masala Dosa to-go and they were great. The lunch comes with a lentil soup as well, and costs less than $5.00. The spices aren't watered down so your mouth feels like it's on fire with the right sauce, and doused with another sauce. The grocery store does look dreary and empty. Frozen items here are very bad. We had 2 very bad food experiences- 1.) bought frozen peas and when we opened the packet, they looked pale & dull. Also when cooked, it started smelling and the water became slimy white. 2.) bought frozen Kawan chapatti (Indian wheat bread) this time carefully checking the expiry dt. Jan 2019. When we cooked the chapatti it started smelling. when we ate the chapatti it tasted sour and rotten. :( It's rumored that the freezer where the frozen stuffs are kept is 'shut down' after hours. read more

I have been going to this store for more than 3 years. I had very good products and prices. But, recently after the new owners have took over with I think back 2-3 months a lot has been changed. Prices have gone up for sure. Price stickers not on products, unlike before you pick any item from any shelf and they will have a price sticker. Choice of spices are not like before. Now its very limited and brands that are not so popular. In short, my bill before used to be around $100 and I would get 5% discount. Now my bill hardly reaches $40.Why, because they have completely changed their products. Even the choice of frozen items have changed.Deep brand was so good but hardly you will find deep brand. I wanted to go specifically for a Chai mix so I was dissapointed when they only two brands of Chai mix they had ended up being not so good. Never Buy any groceries without seeing expiry date in this store. Yesterday I bought Sesame oil , almond powder, cashew from this store in reed ave. The sesame oil expiry date is 12-Jul-2013. I did not realize when i bought that. Today Morning when i opened the pack its smelling very very bad. Same case with Almond powder and cashews. They are smelling horrible. There is no date of packing mentioned. But says BEST BEFORE WITHIN 12 MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF PACKING. sometimes we just buys things in hurry and will not be able to see the dates. Ok, so I am a regular at their Union City location. But, I heard a lot about their new restaurant in Sunnyvale location and gave it a try this weekend. Now i have tried chicken Biryani's at many indian restaurant, like MANY. But, theirs was the BEST i have had in a very long time. It was absolutely fresh, fluffy rice, chicken melted right away, it was yummy. I also tried their lacha parantha in the buffet area. There were so many thin yummy layers, that im hungry writing this review. I went for lunch but they also have an A La Carte dinner menu. MUST TRY! Its feels like you are in India. I think this shop is not quite right, because there are so many things that have the necessary information of the product to take home, such as expiration dates and do not really know if what we are buying is in good condition, a such as flour, unfortunately buy one, being in my house and when opened, had worms ... so we are selling, as also the employees in that place, if you need help, never are, or they ignore you, I think we receive better treatment, that's what we're eating, why they are there, when that happens, I went back to the store, ask for the manager, was like a game, nobody was manager, he was the manager, or there was no charge, but at last I attended a young man, not if this young man has problems, or do not like your job, but I like the way they are coached to me, the me raise my voice and I think that nobody likes to raise their voice, came another young man, you touch a body part that I would have liked to see, I think it was one of the workers this store, because most come with an apron that distinguishes them, and left with, then where is the respect for the client, from there I went with one of the tellers and no one could help me ... This review is for the grocery store. I have been eating their fresh Methi Chapati for years since the original store next to K-Mart decades ago. They are excellent and good for health. Hope they consistently use whole wheat flour as sometimes they use white flour. I keep them in the fridge at home and reheat in the toaster after cutting them into two halves. Their regular fresh chapatis are great too, taste like home cooked unlike the tasteless fulkas elsewhere. I remember the good old days at the original store where I would go every saturday morning for the farmers market like atmosphere and fresh and hot amazing idly-vada-dosa. read more
