um...wouldn't really recommend. Door dashed to a hotel nearby and was really excited for some Indian but this did not hit the mark at all. The Butter Chicken did not taste at all like the many i've had before which I thought was just because I'm not from nearby but it was really disappointing. It wasn't in a "oo new flavor" it was "oh. well, i guess this is what I ordered." The Naan? weird consistency. It wasn't as fluffy or have that signature pillowy surface. It was very flat with almost a pizza dough flavor. For the price point it was again disappointing. The Samosas were pretty good. Got them as a buy one get one free so I decided to try. I've only had it once before so not much to compare to but weren't bad. Overall, idk if the ambiance of the actual restaurant made up for the lack of flavor but I wouldn't recommend to anyone especially at the price point.

This spot is located in Old Town across from Miguel's. Bagi greeted us as we entered the patio area and since it was so hot we decided to eat inside the restaurant. She brought us menus and water and my friend and I decided on the special (located on back of menu). Menu is pretty extensive and we were both starving and it was our first time there. We ordered fried cheese as appetizers and right after our drinks were served they appeared and right behind them were our specials. The Paneer tikamasala was lovely, creamy and not spicy, we ordered a level 3 of heat and we both concurred that we would order a 5 next time. The butter chicken and accompanying sauce was flavorful as well as the fried cheese. The sauce it came with very good as well. My friend enjoyed her mango lassi and my mango iced tea was refreshing as well. We will be back in the Fall when it's not as warm as I think it would be more enjoyable! Come try it if you're looking for something different!

My boyfriend and I stayed at a nearby hotel for the Sketchers hot chocolate run and decided to try out Bhojan Griha for our first dinner. We were immediately seated in their outdoor seating area and given waters. We placed our order and were served complimentary lentil soup. I LOVE lentil soup so this was such a lovely surprise and it was delicious. For our entrees, we ordered lamb curry and chicken korma. The entrees each came with rice and we also ordered garlic naan. I chose spice level medium for the chicken and it was on the spicier side so if you're not into a lot of heat, err on the milder side. This version was sweeter than I am used to but delicious nonetheless. The lamb curry was savory and really hit the spot. I think it was our favorite of the two dishes. The garlic naan was also quite good and a great vehicle getting all the sauce. Service was good and the place got busier as the night progressed. Old Town San Diego has a lot of restaurants but we're definitely coming back to Bhojan Griha to try more of their menu.

This is the ultimate place to go if you want some Nepalese/Indian cuisine. My husband and I were looking for a place to have a date night and we stumbled upon this place and were so grateful we did. The servers were extremely kind and efficient while you are deciding on your choice. Normally I wouldn't be a fan of sitting outside but their patio is awesome and it was kind of the only option given it's early August. Many delicious dishes to choose from along with a very nice and affordable beer and wine list. If you're not in the mood for going out their takeout is always open.

Great spot, walked from the hotel. Lentil soup was good while I waited for the main meal. Staff were very nice. Parking might be a little difficult but what place doesn't have limited parking in San Diego. Overall highly recommend for a good bite.

We saw the chicken momo on TikTok and just had to try it! The flavor was really good, but it definitely needed a little spice. We asked for some hot sauce, and that made it perfect. My kids loved it too! My husband ordered the butter chicken, and the garlic naan was absolutely delicious. Overall, everything was great, and I'd definitely recommend checking this place out!

Amazing food! And awesome, kind service. Took some of my girlfriends here to try food we have never had before. Needless to say we were pleased with the diversity of flavors and the kind staff!

We were visiting and this place was one of the highest rated Indian restaurants in the area. The place was relatively quiet on Sunday at noon. We ordered the butter chicken and naan. It came with a free serving of rice. The food was average, and the portions, although they're served in a tiny bucket styled container, are relatively small for the pricing. The server was friendly, but we'll probably skip this next time.

Food is wonderful, wonderful wait staff, and good location and environment! Got in right away, food came out in an appropriate order and time between each course.

I had little hopes for this place. I was convinced that it was going to be a 2 star place. And I want to send my apologies to everyone because it might be my favorite Indian spot I've tried so far in SD. I would have given it a 3.5 star rating but the other 5 people who were with me that day rated it a 4 star place. We sat outside on the patio which was lovely. It was bright, open aired, decent chairs, large tables, and the smells from the kitchen were intoxicating. The patio is way bigger than their inside dining room which was a little dark. It was nearing closing time and most people around us was finishing up their meals so we basically had the whole place to ourselves by time our meal came. The food came out fast and was piping hot. We did family style but the food that was the best was mine. I ordered the lamb kadai which is overnight marinated lamb baked in tandoor oven then cooked with bell peppers, onion, tomato with herbs and spices. It was DELICIOUS. Others ordered: Chicken tikka masala Haku paneer choila Shrimp eggplant We also had naan. They had one filled with cherries and when I had it separately it was pretty bad. But mix it with my dish and it elevated my meal even more. Service was super sweet. I really appreciate their patience and swiftness in serving us.

1-Star Review My…read morewife and I have been regular customers at Himalayan House on Friars Road for quite some time. We come here once or twice a week for lunch, sometimes just the two of us and often with two friends. Unfortunately, after what happened today, we will not be returning. Today, my wife and I came in by ourselves because we had not been able to get a response from our two friends about whether they wanted to join us. We were seated at a smaller table, which was completely reasonable for two people. About 10 minutes later, our friends texted us that they were on their way. When they arrived, we politely asked if we could move to a larger table. The restaurant was approximately 60% empty, and there were plenty of larger tables available. Instead of simply accommodating the request, the gentleman working there made a big issue out of it and insisted on adding two chairs to our small table. I explained that four people would be crowded and that we would simply prefer to sit comfortably at one of the many available larger tables. At that point, I asked why this was becoming such a big deal. His response was, "Yes, it is a big deal." He then told me that we should have told him from the beginning that we were going to be four people. I explained that we genuinely did not know our friends were coming when we arrived. I also asked him not to be disrespectful and simply allow us to move to a larger table. He then explained that the problem was that he would have to clean two tables instead of one. That was the moment we decided that this was no longer worth it. My wife and I paid for our meals, our friends left with us, and the four of us walked out. I understand that restaurants have procedures and that tables need to be cleaned. But when you have regular customers, a restaurant that is more than half empty, and four people simply asking to move to a larger table so they can sit comfortably, turning it into an argument is completely unnecessary. Hospitality is about making customers feel welcome and accommodating reasonable requests. If someone is unwilling to be hospitable, patient, and respectful toward customers, then they should not be working in the hospitality business. It is especially disappointing because we were frequent customers and genuinely enjoyed coming here. One unnecessary confrontation over something this minor has now cost the restaurant four regular customers.

It was a Saturday evening but there was only a few people and after two hours we were the only people in the restaurant; we left close to 8:00 PM. However, I did see several to-go dinners on a table ready to be picked up. We were first served by a gentleman who really didn't speak much. He started us with soup, but didn't say that it was complementary or explained the type of soup. We found out it was a lentil soup and was quite good. He Immediately tried to take our order, but we weren't ready yet. We did order an appetizer and drinks and then asked him to come back later because he stood there waiting on us. He did give us a few recommendations when I asked. He was nice, but seemed timid. We started off with the Vegetable Samosa and it was very delicious and one of the best i've eaten. When we were ready, a female server took our order. I asked for recommendations again, and she pretty much gave the same one that the male server gave us however, she was more descriptive and even showed us photos at the back of the menu that we missed. I ordered the Lamb Curry with spice level 4 out of 10 with her help. The curry had just enough heat. for me and it was a delicious dish. My friend ordered the Chicken Korma which the server recommended for her, with the spice level of 2 but she said she probably could've gone up one level. Our server, also recommended the Garlic Cilantro Naan. I thought the naan was tasty but just a bit over done. I did try the Chicken Korma which was very creamy and on the sweeter side, but it too was delicious. Overall, the food was delicious, restaurant was clean, the servers were nice and I would come back and try more dishes and naan.It was a very quiet evening for Saturday. Oh, and when we asked for to-go containers, I liked how she had a separate one for rice, curry, and foil for the naan.

In the lunch special plate I could have two meat choices and make two meals out of the plate. The server brought half a cup of yellow lentil soup. When I complained about why doesn't she fill the cup to the top? It was a suggestion. She said it was " complimentary" . She asked me if I want more and implied that it would cost me to have a cup of soup filled to the top, versus complementary half a cup. Later on she just brought me a full cup of soup and said there would no charge. I think it was because she thought I might write a bad review about half a cup of soup, which I was already composing. The food that was brought to me was freshly made and very very hot in temperature. I was the only one in the restaurant for the lunch. I guess I would come here again just to have two selections off of the choices for the lunch. They were pretty tasty. Used to be they had a coupon for lunch $10. But now with all the inflation it's $13.95. With tax and tips $17. There is outdoor seating. I like it that parking is no problem here. Big spacious lot for all the businesses here, sharing with Phil's BBQ.

The good: We…read morearrived on Friday evening around 6:45. The dining room was quite busy. We waited for a few moments by the entrance, and then we were seated at a two top next to the raised tables on the carpet. We ordered samosas, Naan, Chicken Saag & Mango Chicken. Dal: We were gifted two small cups of dal (lentil soup) with fresh cilantro. It was not as flavorful as it has been in the past, so we added salt and pepper, and that brought it to life. Samosas: Delicious! They were on the smaller side, but the tamarind sauce was delightful. - $4.99 Garlic & Cilantro Naan: Great and reasonably priced - $3.99 Chicken Saag - Spice level 4 - pretty hot, very tasty. Chicken and spinach in a rich sauce. - $15.99 Mango Chicken - Spice 4 - pretty hot, slightly sweet sauce and very flavorful chicken. - $15.99 Basmati rice: fine :) Glass bottles of water were placed on the table immediately, and when we finished one, another one was brought over right away. We appreciated this! There is plenty of parking in the lot. The could-be-better: The service was rather uneven today because there were only two waiters for the whole dining room and they had to seat folks, bus tables, handle to-go orders, and wait on tables. They definitely need more staff on weekends. As a result, the service came across as a bit gruff and harried. Our table near the carpeted seating areas was a little too small for all of the dishes, and when our used dishes were not taken off of the table, it was quite crowded. Additionally, when families arrived who needed to sit at the tables on the carpet, we were surrounded by people taking their shoes off, and it felt awkward and uncomfortable for a few minutes. We were just about done with our food when the families arrived, so we left shortly afterward, but it could be a bit much if we were there longer. There should be a "please wait to be seated" sign by the front door so customers don't walk into the restaurant and stand around by the desk, and crowd the folks who are already seated in the dining room, or worse, pounce on a table that someone else is waiting for. Overall: The food here is good and reasonably priced. I will probably opt for take out more often than I dine in going forward (just to avoid the crowds), but I will be back. This restaurant feels authentic and genuine, and I like supporting family-owned businesses whenever possible. Mahalo!
