The ambiance was instantly noticed, it seems very local and it felt like I was back in India but also had Nepal parts, it smelled like incense when we were in there and the place was built with this clay look The service was quick to get seated, there was only one lady there but there was only one other couple there, the food took 20 minutes for a lot of food, so cannot complain at all The lentil soup is really good, it's not whole lentils they're like ground and uneven texture which i love, very rich and flavorful The Chana masala is reallly good, incredibly flavorful, the onions are soft and there is potato mixed in with it, amazing surprise I love potato curry this made me incredibly happy- I also got spice level 9/10 because I love spice and it actually was a good level of spice This was my first time trying momo, we got the vegetable but it was an interesting flavor jump from the Chana masala, the inside of the dumpling was soft veggies and it was alright, not very flavorful and the sauce was what carried it, but not in a great way at least for me, very bright like a cilantro citrus zest but different, my family also did not like it The murgh curry was interesting, again mixed with potatoes but the curry taste was a tiny bit bland, still good but when in comparison to the Chana masala. This could be because it didn't have the same spice though, it wasn't sweet nor spicy. The chicken was very tender and no complaints there. um...wouldn't really recommend. Door dashed to a hotel nearby and was really excited for some Indian but this did not hit the mark at all. The Butter Chicken did not taste at all like the many i've had before which I thought was just because I'm not from nearby but it was really disappointing. It wasn't in a "oo new flavor" it was "oh. well, i guess this is what I ordered." The Naan? weird consistency. It wasn't as fluffy or have that signature pillowy surface. It was very flat with almost a pizza dough flavor. For the price point it was again disappointing. The Samosas were pretty good. Got them as a buy one get one free so I decided to try. I've only had it once before so not much to compare to but weren't bad. This spot is located in Old Town across from Miguel's. Bagi greeted us as we entered the patio area and since it was so hot we decided to eat inside the restaurant. She brought us menus and water and my friend and I decided on the special (located on back of menu). Menu is pretty extensive and we were both starving and it was our first time there. We ordered fried cheese as appetizers and right after our drinks were served they appeared and right behind them were our specials. The Paneer tikamasala was lovely, creamy and not spicy, we ordered a level 3 of heat and we both concurred that we would order a 5 next time. The butter chicken and accompanying sauce was flavorful as well as the fried cheese. The sauce it came with very good as well. My friend enjoyed her mango lassi and my mango iced tea was refreshing as well. We will be back in the Fall when it's not as warm as I think it would be more enjoyable! My boyfriend and I stayed at a nearby hotel for the Sketchers hot chocolate run and decided to try out Bhojan Griha for our first dinner. We were immediately seated in their outdoor seating area and given waters. We placed our order and were served complimentary lentil soup. I LOVE lentil soup so this was such a lovely surprise and it was delicious. For our entrees, we ordered lamb curry and chicken korma. The entrees each came with rice and we also ordered garlic naan. I chose spice level medium for the chicken and it was on the spicier side so if you're not into a lot of heat, err on the milder side. This version was sweeter than I am used to but delicious nonetheless. The lamb curry was savory and really hit the spot. I think it was our favorite of the two dishes. The garlic naan was also quite good and a great vehicle getting all the sauce. Service was good and the place got busier as the night progressed. Old Town San Diego has a lot of restaurants but we're definitely coming back to Bhojan Griha to try more of their menu. read more

This is the ultimate place to go if you want some Nepalese/Indian cuisine. My husband and I were looking for a place to have a date night and we stumbled upon this place and were so grateful we did. The servers were extremely kind and efficient while you are deciding on your choice. Normally I wouldn't be a fan of sitting outside but their patio is awesome and it was kind of the only option given it's early August. We did family style but the food that was the best was mine. Bhojan Griha is my favorite Nepalese/Indian restaurant in SD. Every dish I've tried has been delicious. The ingredients they use are very fresh, and the food is well-seasoned. I also appreciate that their "spicy" is flavorful, rather than mouth-numbing. My favorite dishes are the salmon kadai, lentil soup, chilli veg momo, and baigan bharta. My husband likes the chicken achari curry, although I'm not the biggest fan of Indian pickles. Make sure to get the herbal garlic naan. I came for dinner with my husband on Sunday night, giving the next day was a holiday it got busy after we got seated around 8 pm. Parking of course in old town was a hellish so keep that in mind. They have a big patio outside ( didn't look any seats inside) which is nice. I love Indian/Nepalese food and we've gone to several ones in SD. We ordered vegetable momo, chicken tika masala, butter chicken, and garlic naan. The curry was a bit greasier than I'd normally like and a bit too salty. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the food, but it's very hard to find good Indian/Nepalese food in San Diego. I'm always happy to find a new great Indian place, and Bhojan Griha more than fit the bill. It's in the oddly-shaded triangular space that long ago was Rancho La Lena, aka the worst Mexican restaurant in Old Town. With no one's sadness that place is long gone, and with what should be universal glee, this unlikely gem takes its former place. An Indian restaurant in Old Town sounds as fitting as mayonaise on spaghetti, but the new-found variety is quite refreshing and long overdue. The seating is patio-based, and while not much to look at, it's pleasant enough and definitely has untapped potential, if the owners wanted to invest a bit into the atmosphere. The star here is really the food, and upon the server's recommendation, I ordered the Kadhai chicken and couldn't resist the garlic cilantro naan as well. I was surprised with some lentil soup to start, which apparently comes with entrees. I'm not a huge lentil fan myself but I found it surprisingly pleasant, which is high lentil praise from me. The garlic cilantro naan more than lived up to its promise, unlike many "garilc" naans that too often skimp on the garlic. Even after batting two for two, the home run was the Kadhai chicken, interestingly and oddly served in a cone-shaled chalice, this red curry was absolutely delicious on both the chicken and the accompanying rice. Being new to the restaurant, I ordered a spice level of six, which brought a bit of heat, but was not overwhelming. I'd probably up it to a seven or eight next time I order it again, and I would order it again in a heart beat. In fact, I would order everything again in a heart beat. I'm inclined to give some grace as it was a Thursday morning and maybe they had their b team on staff that day but everything was bad. There was one other party there and it took 20 minutes to order and an additional 45 minutes before we got our food. The food arrived and it was not good. Some of the best Indian/Nepalese food I've had in the United States, let alone San Diego County. My husband and I have "dined in" a handful of times and the staff has always been very kind and accommodating, but more often than not, we elect for takeout because this is one of the few restaurants in our neighborhood that is just as yummy from home as it is in the dining room. The saag paneer and butter chicken are our go-to's. As is their garlic herb naan bread. Order more than you think you need and thank me later. I used to feel like their rice wasn't soft/fluffy enough, but they must have made a change because this last time we ordered takeout it was delicious. In fact the only thing I *wouldn't* recommend is their crispy cauliflower. I prefer an air-fried approach, so I find their breading a little heavy/soggy. Whatever this place might lack in trendy decor they more than make up for in heart and homestyle cooking. The first food that landed on our table was the LAMB CHOWMEIN. I thought this would be something like a regular chowmein that I always have, but their version is very good, the noodles are cooked nicely and it was very tasty, not greasy, the Lamb was tender, and it was very flavorful. The BUTTER CHICKEN and TANDOORI were good, and it has good seasoning as well. The meats on both were tender too. The CHICKEN JHOL MOMO was okay, but there was something slightly bitter that I was tasting, not bad at all, but not something I am a big fan of. The GARLIC CILANTRO NAAN, as always, was good, I eat them a lot with the BUTTER CHICKEN. My husband and I like this place because they can control the Spice levels nicely here. I Love Spicy food, but my Husband and Son don't, so for them making all of our food not too spicy at all for us is a big yes for us to make this our regular Nepalese Indian restaurant to dine in.
