*Tasty food *Cozy ambiance *great customer service Still one of my go-to spots in Chula Vista for some delicious chicken korma! Himalayan House is a quiet, cozy restaurant that never disappoints. Today we ordered our usual chicken korma with garlic-cilantro naan, always so flavorful and comforting. We also tried the chicken momo; I wasn't a big fan of the red sauce it comes with, but once we asked for their spicy house sauce, it made the momos taste so much better. We added an order of vegetable pakora with their mint chutney... and wow! That mint chutney is tasty with the perfect spicy kick. A shout out to Ash for taking care of us and recommending the spicy house sauce. If you're in Chula Vista and craving something flavorful, you've got to try this spot. Highly recommend!

Ordered take out from Himalayan House Restaurant on a recent trip to the San Diego area. Garlic cilantro naan - Finally, a garlic naan with real flavor! Unlike the many others that I've tried in the past that barely hint at garlic, this one was wonderfully garlicky. Just look at the visible pieces of actual garlic in my photo. Saag tofu - Saag tofu is an unusual and welcome option--it's typically saag paneer, a cheese I tend to avoid. They provided a very generous portion, and it paired perfectly with the included basmati rice and the garlicky naan. The Chicken Tikka Tandoori was outstanding! The chicken was flavorful, perfectly charred, and moist, and the portion size was massive. It filled up the entire togo container. Mango Lassi is our standard order, and this one was a winner! It had a wonderful, fresh taste, clearly made in-house rather than poured from a jug or premade. All the food was packed securely, neat, and included utensils for us.

Feeling super bummed because I ordered for pick up, came all the way home to Tijuana to find I did not receive the rice that comes with my meal. :( very expensive dinner for just paneer with sauce and garlic naan and not even any rice :( hoping someone can reach out and make it right!

All foods we ordered weee so delicious!! We ordered too much foods. Butter chicken was very creamy and sweet. Himalayan vi was very flavorful and good amount of spices. People work there were nice. They do Military discount which is nice There was a small TV. It showed Indian TV or movie but I didn't hear anything. It may no sound. It is a casual restaurant. I recommend this place.

While waiting for traffic to abate, loved eating Lamb Saag w/ Butter Naan and Lentil Soup. Well balanced flavors and attentive staff! Loved the calming music in the background too. So nice to find this gem around at the end of a workday.

I come here all the time, always so so delicious and fast. They're super consistent. My go to is the samosas, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. It's the best indian place i've been to in the area. The service is also great, we usually have the same waitress she's super nice! Fantastic place super recommend!!

Family dinner but they didn't want to do family style. Personally, this is a perfect place for family style. Lots of items ordered but pics are of the garlic cilantro naan, sweet naan, goat curry, chai, and mulligatawny soup. They also give you a cup of lentil soup with each main dish. The lentil soup was tasty but on a bit of the watery side. The mulligatawny soup, chicken and lentils, was delicious. I just wish they didn't use precooked chicken from the tandoor oven. The savory naan could've used just a tad more time in the oven. What surprised me was the sweet naan. It made for a nice dessert too at the end of the meal. My hubby put some raita on it and liked that combo. Their chicken monos were nicely seasoned and juicy. They give you some Himalayan sauce to go with it, gave it a nice little tang. My hubby's goat curry was medium spicy and it had a good little kick. The only thing about goat is you are contending with lots of bones. It was a cool evening so I was excited to have their chai. Unfortunately, it was watery and not very spicy at all. I love a real chai with a good kick to it. We will go again and I will probably try a lamb dish next time.

Has a nice ambience and kind employees. I ordered the Butter Chicken and Mulligatawny Soup with a side of garlic naan and it was absolutely delicious and had great taste. We were so hungry we forgot to take a picture before we devoured the meal but I assure you it all looked amazing

Nothing about this place really stood out to me. The location was a 3. The atmosphere was a 2. The service was a 2. The food if it was amazing could have bumped it up but it was barely a 2. I left very unimpressed, hungry, and disappointed. My taste buds were not engaged in any complex flavors. I guess it's "good" because there's not a lot of options in the city. Came here on a Saturday evening around 4pm. It looked like they were cross training someone at the register. But both looked bored and like they didn't want to be there or talking to us. The only greeting I got was "what do you want?" I ordered the Paneer Korma and Mixed Tandoori. Overall. Not impressed with the flavor profile. 2 stars.

I left a $20 tip asked for their go to meal, I could care less about the price dude gives me this maybe because he didn't like me.

Why be weird how's this a meal it's sauce in 6 oz of chicken. Weird customer service, go somewhere else, it taste like they added tomato sauce.

Ask the Community - Himalayan House Restaurant

    Is there a lunch buffet?

No but they do have good lunch specials.

I came here at 11:30am on Monday 12/13 and the place was locked up no one inside, have you guys closed down?

According to their website (https://www.himalayanrestaurantsd.com/), they are closed on Mondays. The Yelp hours should be updated to reflect this.

Did this restaurant close down? I called today and was told they closed down a month ago?

No. I ordered here today. 6/11/21. They don't pick up there phone it seems though. I ordered online direct through their website for pickup. Food was great as always.

Will they be re-opening indoors since it is allowed as of 8/31?

I called yesterday and they were still offering takeout only. Restaurant did NOT provide estimated date which dine-in would be offered.

Is this open for take-out during the corona virus outbreak or closed? they are not answering their phone. Just found out chula vista is closed for 2 weeks but they have other locations open including la mesa where you can still order.

I called a week and a half ago and they said they were open for delivery but that could have changed since then.

It seems to be family run and everyone was very pleasant. I will say it was a bit slow because of how busy they are, but i expected that. The place seems very popular as there were tons of takeout orders coming in. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and lamb samosa.. the prices were about average, around $16 for the curry and about $8 for 2 pretty good sized samosas that were filled to the brim with lamb. Everything i had was very good, and I was only able to eat about half, so I had plenty of leftovers. The tikka masala was very flavorful and the chicken was tender. The Samosa was crispy on the outside and the lamb inside was seasoned well. I loved the garlic naan, and everything was very fresh (pro tip - I put the naan in an air fryer to reheat it the next day, just for about a minute, and it came out tasting like it had just been made fresh!) I will definitely come back here again, and look forward to trying more items on the menu. You are lucky if this place is near you, so if you have not gone yet, I'd make it a point too.

1-Star Review My…read morewife and I have been regular customers at Himalayan House on Friars Road for quite some time. We come here once or twice a week for lunch, sometimes just the two of us and often with two friends. Unfortunately, after what happened today, we will not be returning. Today, my wife and I came in by ourselves because we had not been able to get a response from our two friends about whether they wanted to join us. We were seated at a smaller table, which was completely reasonable for two people. About 10 minutes later, our friends texted us that they were on their way. When they arrived, we politely asked if we could move to a larger table. The restaurant was approximately 60% empty, and there were plenty of larger tables available. Instead of simply accommodating the request, the gentleman working there made a big issue out of it and insisted on adding two chairs to our small table. I explained that four people would be crowded and that we would simply prefer to sit comfortably at one of the many available larger tables. At that point, I asked why this was becoming such a big deal. His response was, "Yes, it is a big deal." He then told me that we should have told him from the beginning that we were going to be four people. I explained that we genuinely did not know our friends were coming when we arrived. I also asked him not to be disrespectful and simply allow us to move to a larger table. He then explained that the problem was that he would have to clean two tables instead of one. That was the moment we decided that this was no longer worth it. My wife and I paid for our meals, our friends left with us, and the four of us walked out. I understand that restaurants have procedures and that tables need to be cleaned. But when you have regular customers, a restaurant that is more than half empty, and four people simply asking to move to a larger table so they can sit comfortably, turning it into an argument is completely unnecessary. Hospitality is about making customers feel welcome and accommodating reasonable requests. If someone is unwilling to be hospitable, patient, and respectful toward customers, then they should not be working in the hospitality business. It is especially disappointing because we were frequent customers and genuinely enjoyed coming here. One unnecessary confrontation over something this minor has now cost the restaurant four regular customers.

The Palak Paneer which is spinach with cheese was delightful. It is our favorite vegetable dish and tied our entrees together. It's comforting and savory. The Aloo Matar fresh peas and potatoes were as delicious but hard to compare with the Paneer. I did like the peas a lot. For our entrees we had the Chicken Kadai, Lamb Tarkari and Chicken Tandoori. All came with basmati rice. The chicken kadai had a nice spicy kick. The lamb was tender and lots of cinnamon notes. The tandoori was crispy, tender and juicy. The Garlic cilantro naan was tasty, soft and buttery and great with soaking in all the curry sauce. All the flavors hit the right spot and were all delicious! We had a tiny leftover left of the rice, naan and Aloo Matar. Otherwise we devoured our entire meal. It was that yummy!!! We love this place. We waited for a few moments by the entrance, and then we were seated at a two top next to the raised tables on the carpet. We ordered samosas, Naan, Chicken Saag & Mango Chicken. Dal: We were gifted two small cups of dal (lentil soup) with fresh cilantro. It was not as flavorful as it has been in the past, so we added salt and pepper, and that brought it to life. Samosas: Delicious! They were on the smaller side, but the tamarind sauce was delightful. - $4.99 Garlic & Cilantro Naan: Great and reasonably priced - $3.99 Chicken Saag - Spice level 4 - pretty hot, very tasty. Chicken and spinach in a rich sauce. - $15.99 Mango Chicken - Spice 4 - pretty hot, slightly sweet sauce and very flavorful chicken. - $15.99 Basmati rice: fine :) Glass bottles of water were placed on the table immediately, and when we finished one, another one was brought over right away. We appreciated this! There is plenty of parking in the lot. The could-be-better: The service was rather uneven today because there were only two waiters for the whole dining room and they had to seat folks, bus tables, handle to-go orders, and wait on tables. They definitely need more staff on weekends. As a result, the service came across as a bit gruff and harried. Our table near the carpeted seating areas was a little too small for all of the dishes, and when our used dishes were not taken off of the table, it was quite crowded. Additionally, when families arrived who needed to sit at the tables on the carpet, we were surrounded by people taking their shoes off, and it felt awkward and uncomfortable for a few minutes. We were just about done with our food when the families arrived, so we left shortly afterward, but it could be a bit much if we were there longer. There should be a "please wait to be seated" sign by the front door so customers don't walk into the restaurant and stand around by the desk, and crowd the folks who are already seated in the dining room, or worse, pounce on a table that someone else is waiting for. Overall: The food here is good and reasonably priced. I will probably opt for take out more often than I dine in going forward (just to avoid the crowds), but I will be back. This restaurant feels authentic and genuine, and I like supporting family-owned businesses whenever possible. Mahalo!

This could be because it didn't have the same spice though, it wasn't sweet nor spicy. The chicken was very tender and no complaints there. The chicken tikka masala was great, not sweet at all not super spicy but a great level honestly, everything was at spice level 9 and I think it was all good but Chana masala had a bit of kick The paneer was veryyy creamy and quite sweet, I honestly did not really like it it was a weird sweet to me but it depends on your taste, my dad liked it and my mom did not Overall I would come back knowing exactly what dishes I want now, maybe I am bias because I am Indian and the dishes that had more Nepal influence or weren't like exactly Indian food did not taste as good to me, but normally I am not that picky of an eater.
