Very uninspired Korean BBQ. We have been going here for many years. The past few(many) times, we have been very disappointed. Food is ok, service is horrid, and for what you get it's overpriced. We always order bbq meat and a few apps. The sides that come w bbq are much smaller and you must beg for more, it's not readily replenished. For the price of $95 + tip, for 2 people, this is not a worthy experience. Btw this bill only inc one glass of wine, for one person, that is a small pour. I wish I had discovered this place much sooner, but now that I did, I'm happy to know I don't have to go all the way down to Farmington for legit Korean food. One of my favorite things to eat is soup, in all weather. So, just like I always order a udon dish at a Japanese noodle shop or pho at a Vietnamese place to compare it to what I've deemed as the gold standard during my first visit, I always order a SunDuBu Chige first at a Korean restaurant even though the name of the restaurant should tell me what they're known for and I should try. I don't think I've ever seen Gop Chang (cow intestines) as an option for SunDuBu chige, so, naturally, I had to try it. I was not disappointed. I'm pretty sure this is now my new gold standard. The broth was rich in flavor and not overly salty. The intestines were cooked correctly so that they're not rubbery, and the side dishes that came with the entree were definitely not an after-thought. The only side dish that was spicy was kimchi and even that was good, just the right amount of salt. I've eaten here a handful of times in the past but I felt compelled to leave a review today upon seeing some recent negative reviews. I was worried that things had changed since the last time I dined here, but I have nothing bad to say about my meal or experience today. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The food came out quickly and everything was delicious, including the banchan. We had kalbi and samgyeopsal, both were nice and tender. Meat portions were maybe a little smaller than other KBBQ restaurants I've been to, but the meat was high quality and filled us up. The mandu were especially tasty! Went back for the first time since COVID hit and this place is getting it right - using fewer tables to keep customers more than 6 feet apart, staff wearing their masks (Correctly I might add, not below their noses) and there is constant cleaning of surfaces. On top of that the food is still amazing! Maybe even better because I missed it so much. Owner's wife helped us make sake selection and then came and personally cooked our bulgoki -- YUM! Bi Bim Bab? More like Bi Bim Blunder! After all the hype I saw on Yelp about this place, I was very confused to find myself so distraught after my visit. A bunch of us went here for a 21st birthday dinner. We had made reservations for 15, and ended up only having 8 people in our party and we were 10-15 min late for our reservation. Now, I sympathize with the restaurant, and they should have every right to be disappointed about that. BUT, we did not deserve what came next... The first thing we were greeted with upon our arrival was a very deeply agitated woman (she may have been a manager?) who welcomed us with attitude and snide remarks, practically yelling at us for not calling about our smaller party. We apologized because we really did feel bad, but found it very unusual that a restaurant would actually SCOLD us for being late. We all sat down after she huffed and puffed and stomped away. 2 minutes later, a gentlemen, the only gentle-man or woman there, asked us to move to another table nearby. As we were trying to get settled in, our waitress came over (already looking like she had a stick up her bum) and was the second person to scowl at us for being late and having a smaller group than we promised, while telling us to change tables, yet again. Even though we told the waitress it was our first time there, she stood there with her eyes beating down on us, nonverbally asking us to pick faster. She walked away after realizing we were going to take a hot minute. We were trying to ask her questions, but with her accent and the fact that she talked really fast, we could barely understand what she was saying. The accent didn't bother me, but her attitude of wanting to rush us through a meal and acting like it was a CHORE for her to be waiting on us was a big turn-off. I mean she was snarling and snappy! Hey lady, if you have better things to do, then quit!!! We all ordered the Bi Bim Bab since everyone on Yelp had raved about it. We also noticed on the menu that if it was someone's birthday, they bring out a bottle of champagne for the bday person for free, so we requested that and our waitress complied... or so we thought (but i'll get to that later). We also ordered their specialty sake drink, thinking it would be around $8-9.... it was $15!!! It cost more than our Bi Bim Bab meal which was only $11 something. The drink just looks pretty and there's really nothing to it, where do they get off charging that much for a drink, and also unthoughtfully neglecting to tell us the price! But I wouldn't expect any better from this joint. So we get our Bi Bim Bab, it was mostly a bowl of fried rice with some grilled veggies, a sunny side up egg, and very small portion of meat.... and when you mixed it in, all you could taste was rice. I had to douse my rice in their house hot sauce to get any flavor into the dish. Their pickled side dishes were alright. One of our friends didn't like egg and was about to take it out of his bowl when.... the waitress walked over, started telling us how to eat the Bi Bim Bab (by mixing it up) and took his bowl as a demo and he even told her "hey i want to take the egg out, i don't like egg" but she ignored him and just started mixing up all that egg he didn't like into the bowl and said "don't worry once it's all mixed in, you can't even taste it!" You should have seen the look on his poor face! It's like someone had just spit in his food! As we were finishing our meal they informed us that they ran out of champagne (how convenient right) and that they would give the birthday girl a tempura ice cream instead... which she was fine with because the ice cream was a nice big serving and it was tasty. This was rich, the only time our waitress really seemed cheery was when she brought out the bill. Our bill would have been cheaper if it wasn't for the 2 $15 drinks we had ordered :( which made up half almost half the bill!! My boyfriend jokingly asked if gratuity was included and the waitress responded "Huhhh?! Are you KIDDING ME??" we all laughed it off but i personally wanted to punch her in the face for thinking we were going to tip her well for the crap service she gave us. The food was good but it didn't blow me away, so I would give it 3 stars. The service was 0! And I was originally going to rate this place a 2 overall to be nice. But while writing this review, I started to relive the tension and awkwardness of that night and opted to give it a 1 instead. I really don't understand what they had against us.The Korean and white patrons seemed to be getting better, at least more respectful service than we did. I am no expert in Korean food but I do quite like it here. The raw beef bibimbap in the stone bowl has worked for me, particularly when doused in the hot sauce. I like it spicy, what can I say? Sundubu jjigae, the tofu and seafood soup, also made me very happy indeed, there is something so happy about a big well flavored bowl of soup. The hwe dup bab is a fave of my mother's everywhere and is pretty much a chirashi bowl with a spicy sauce, so of course I like it. I have now also sampled some of the grill items, the barbecue combination which has shrimp, chicken, bulgogi and kalbi. I found them all to work but preferred the kalbi and bulgogi to the other two. Everything is well marinated so it all turns out tender which is happy. I do wish I had gotten to try the spicier marinated items but not everyone is into that (ahem my husband ahem). It is fun to have the experience of the grill though, kind of adds a bit of zip to dinner. No worries if you are a newb, its simple and they will check in. The banchan accompaniments here are consistently tasty, particularly the potato salad and the kimchee, which yes, I do hog (be warned if you are dining with me). No worries they are gracious about getting you more. I also was fond of the spinach. The variety seems to vary a bit but all are good unless you are picky like my husband, then you may not like any of them. I find the service friendly here, sometimes a bit more than others. Everything is timely and they do check in with you which is great if you are the clueless type. If it weren't such a hike I would stop by more often. read more

I've been here numerous times, and I can't believe that it's taken me this long to write a review. Husband and I first started coming here back in 2009, and though we came here many times, each time we left feeling like something was missing. Suffice to say, it didn't leave a lasting impression, so that's why we didn't return for quite some time. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, Husband and his colleagues were in the area doing business, and we all decided to meet up here. Both Husband and I were curious to see how things had changed, and his colleagues had a hankering for Korean food. Plus, since Liz W. had a wonderful time fairly recently, it was a definite go! :) Decor wise, it's still the same, but this time, the food was wonderful! We ordered: - Gun Man Doo (pan fried beef/chive dumplings, regular portion 4 pcs. $4.95, large portion 10 pcs. $9.95): Great crispy skin, and not oily. The filling mixture had a balanced flavor with the beef and chives. It was seasoned very well. We all loved it so much that we ordered a second portion. - Tuna Roll ($5 for 6 pieces): Good size, and sushi rice had the right acidity to it. The fish to rice proportion was better than before, and the seaweed was not stale. - Unagi Kabayaki ($22.95): Price might seem high, but the quantity and quality was awesome. The unagi sauce was drizzled lightly across the platter, and it was sprinkled with the right amount of sesame seeds. Keep in mind that by ordering this, you're only getting the fish, but if you want the fish and rice combo, make sure you order the Unaju. This, however, is great for sharing. Husband and I had enough for leftovers. - Kalbi Tang (Beef short rib soup, $14.95): Lovely cuts of beef, and the thinly sliced daikon was great. The broth had that nice marrow flavor from the beef bone, and the long strands of scallions skimming the top of the soup had a nice peppery flavor. There were some strands of glass noodles in the soup, but I would have liked a little more of it. - Cold Beef Buckwheat Noodle soup ($10.95): On a hot day, it is very refreshing to slurp and eat. The slices of Korean pears are lovely, as a great sweet offset to the salty beef broth. The buckwheat noodles have a slight chew, and the beef slices were nice and lean. Definitely a must get, especially during the hotter months. As with all Korean meals, the ban chan is a great addition to the heavy protein-based entrees. At Bi Bim Bab, they have a good variety consisting of kim chi, potato salad, bean sprouts, broccoli with miso paste, spicy pickled daikon, vinegar-based seaweed with cucumbers and carrots. All refreshing, free, and good quality. Feel free to ask them for more if you run out. So I guess this means our absence from Bi Bim Bab is officially over. This meal was tasty, and the service was much better. I find it to be more fitting to come here with a group. Also, I think we found the dishes that work for us, both in price and quality. :) This is probably one of the next best places you can find quality Korean food. I have been back here several times since my last review and sadly, the past visit left me with a sour taste in my mouth and walked out with flat wallet. A friend of mine was moving and a group of was restaurant hopping and this was our 3rd restaurant that we stopped in... We ordered the following: - samgyeopsal (black pig belly) - bossam - soju - Haemul Jeongul When I ordered the samgyeopsal, the waitress asked, how many orders... I said one... she gave me that wtf look... I was taken back by the look because this was our 3rd restaurant and we were there to enjoy different foods... Banchans - very lacking in flavors... I know banchans can get expensive as you restock them at the table, but kimchi, sour seaweed (very sour), bean sprouts, green bean and broccoli in a peanut sauce and mashed potato - they all lacked flavors on this visit. Samgyeopsal - one order. My experience with ordering samgyeopsal at other Korean places is as follows - you get about 3 long strips for each order... at Bi Bim Bap - you get 9 thinly sliced samgyeopsal that's about 2 in by 1 in. As for the taste goes, I would never order this again, as the meat wasn't good. I had many black pig samgyeopsal in Korea and the ones they served here tasted different. Soju - $15 per bottle - NOT WORTH IT! You can buy them at a local Korean grocery store for like $4 (cheapest) and buy the samgyeopsal and grill it at home. Bossam - if you like dried out pork, then this dish is for you... the meat was tough to eat and i know they are premade, but the meat should have been cooked longer; needs to be softer then what they served. Haemul Jeongul - I'm a seafood junkie and was looking forward to this dish... when they brought it, the broth was half empty.... it seemed they were cooking it in the back and by the time they brought it to our table, 1/2 of the broth was gone because it was on the stove too long... a respectable chef/cook would have never sent this out... they should have poured in more broth prior to sending it out... on top of that, because it was cooking for so long, some of the fish was tough to eat and the lobster was overcooked. Overall, this was the worst experience at Bi Bim Bap.... I just hope this was one of those off days that I some how ended up there and had this bad experience.... I'm not sure when I'll be back since I'm not in the area often, but when I do and I stopped by I just hope experience at that time will be different. read more

Yesterday just felt like a Korean BBQ on the way home from The airport, searched Yelp for suitable places & come up with Bi Bam Bab. now a good Korean BBQ is fairly simple, couple of cuts of meat, marinated or unmarinated, Lettuce, Fermented bean paste, Garlic & lots of good fresh side dishes like Kimchee. We orders as meats Kai Bi & Cha Doi, unlike some other reviews i cannot fault the service, it was prompt & Friendly, plenty of good service, the Decor i found kind of weird, Bamboo Tree motif for Korean BBQ??? However the big failing was the food, nothing horrible just amazingly bland, the meat was OK, nothing special but the Garlic had no taste!! & the fermented bean paste was really flavorless, all the side dishes were kind of sad looking, wilted & none of the taste that i love so much about Korean food & on our 2nd order of lettuce the leafs arrived very dirty!!! I've been meaning to try Bi Bim Bab for a while now, and I finally convinced Hubby to come with me a couple of weeks ago. The (very) good: The hostess helped us pick out our order, since this was our first visit. She steered us right. We ordered the Bi Bim Bab, which is like Korean fried rice, and the mixed BBQ, which one cooks at a grill at one's table. The BBQ came with a wide variety of side dishes. Every last bite that entered my mouth was mouthwateringly delicious. Even the kim chee, which I normally don't like. The (kinda) bad: The same hostess who was so very helpful became a little overwhelming as our meal progressed. I see there are some reviews that are very critical of the service, and I imagine if one got off on the wrong foot with this person, it could go very wrong very quickly. Luckily for us, we didn't get off on the wrong foot, so it was just a matter of her being a little over familiar and visiting a little too often. The (weirdly) ugly: Try to find this place. I dare you. It is tucked away in the back of a mostly empty and bizarrely laid out office building. I've been here twice before, so this is my third visit, and likely my last. The service is often lacking here. I'm not an impatient type, and I know better than to visit a place like this when I'm in a rush; I'm here for a relaxing experience and to take my time to enjoy it. I can see they are busy, workers bustling about, dashing to and fro with the carts, so maybe it's a management, or time management, issue. We just always seem to wait a long time, once seated, for the drink order, then even longer for the actual order to be taken. My first cup of hot tea was cold, very cold. Refills were slow to nonexistent (so why not fill my cup all the way?) This time, our server was not only apparently spread too thin, she was abrupt, inattentive, and a little impatient. Impatient with us, after we waited for a long time for a moment of her attention. I did enjoy the sushi roll I ordered as an appetizer, and the bbq platter we ordered to cook up was okay, but the sides weren't that great... overall, I have much better experiences & food elsewhere, I'm not inclined to return here :( read more

We were waiting for one of my cousins to be done at work and watching food channels and Man vs. Food, so by the time we got there, we were starving. They were pretty busy and crowded when we went, but we got seated fairly quickly and they'd come out every now and then to check on us and apologize for the wait. I'm going to be a slight fail in terms of the exact dishes we ordered because my cousin ordered them in Korean and I'm a fail when it comes to Korean. I know..."Good morning," "Thank you," and "Yes." We started out with sushi (spicy tuna, salmon roll, a CA roll with tuna on top and a CA roll with salmon on top). The latter two had alternate names, but it's been a freakishly long week. I don't remember what they were called anymore. I was too busy salivating over the pictures. We ordered two types of beef, and they came with a bunch of awesome side dishes. There has to be something you'll enjoy in there. (I'm particularly a fan of the bean sprouts and the broccoli.) Their beers and Soju are apparently pretty good (I didn't try them, but this is to the testament of my cousins). They brought out a vegetable soup afterward that, to be honest, I didn't expect to like, but it was great, and it helped me finish off the rest of my rice. :] They came back with a plate of oranges and our bill. Delicious Korean and Japanese food. The dumpling soup with rice noodles is one of my favorites. The menu description is unassuming yet the soup is outta this world. It is a nice change from eating Pho for the past few years. No surprise the food here is served on Delta airlines flights to Asia. Smart move. The pickled veggies are tasty and the kimchi is some of the best I've ever tasted especially if you like it spicy. Service is always quick and efficient. I would love to try the sushi someday if the Korean wasn't so dang good. Lunch and dinner hours are busy times but late afternoon things quiet down. We always get the BBQ, which is as delicious as you make it (how well you grill it, what sauces and accompaniments you include with it inside the lettuce leaf, etc.) Their sushi is good, not the best I've had but definitely not the worst. Their bi-bim-bab is very good - we like to order it with double egg. After reading Tara L's review, I can't wait to branch out and try some of her recommended dishes! They're located in an indoor shopping and dining center. We've recently found the back parking lot (that looks like it's where deliveries happen...but it's the only place on the outside of the building where their business sign is located). I knew of this place. I've come here more times than I recall as a youngster. Never really had a grasp of what the big deal was. Years later, I come again and realize all this time I never understood what this place was about till present day. Quality! You get quality! Quality of meat, quality of preparation, quality of preparation, and quality of atmosphere! You get what you pay for! Speed of service, professionalism of the staff, and obviously the price is well, necessary because you get what you pay for. Quality! I went by myself for the first time and get the stone bowl bibimbap with roe. And yes, that is fish egg. Wasn't impressed and the fishy taste was just so overpowering that it was difficult to enjoy between the overbearing heat of the rice and the extremely fishy smell of all the roe that sat cooking. Vowed never to get that again. So I go back a second time, but this time, to go BBQ. Korean BBQ in fact! And I'm glad I did! The cuts of the black pork belly were... I hate to use this word but I can't help it. It was quality! Fresh side dishes, perfectly portioned dipping sauces, and just a sheer enjoyable experience! It's no wonder the place packs out all the time because it's a place that demands a certain patience. Were it not for my trusty GPS and a previous visit a long time ago, I would have been hard pressed to locate this restaurant, hidden from street view, in an office building. A friend and I met up one evening during the World Cup. The restaurant, filled with large groups of friends or family, erupted with loud cheers and high fives when a team scored. The restaurant was bustling and vibrated with energy that evening. We shared the shrimp tempura appetizer while we caught up with each other. The tempura was light and delicious; I enjoyed it immensely. I had the bi bim bab, a hot stone bowl filled with a mixture of ground beef and vegetables on a bed of steamed white rice. A fried egg, sunny-side up, topped the delicious meal. As always, whenever I have this dish, I always enjoy it with the hot and spicy sauce mixed in liberally. There were numerous side dishes, including potato salad, broccoli, radishes and kimchee. Service was quick and efficient. I frikkin love Korean food. There. I said it. In all honesty, if Yelp would allow half stars this place would be rated 4.5 stars by me. I have loved this restaurant ever since my DH introduced me to the place. Somebody else introduced him, and I am sure somebody else in turn introduced him. You see, this place is one of those restaurants you need to know about, otherwise you will forever be in the dark about it's existence and miss out on the noms that their kitchen puts out. Bibimbap is located on the "bottom floor" (excuse my made up word) of a corporate building in Novi. All Korean staples are represented, I particularly enjoy the bulgogi and spicy chicken when barbecuing, and the beef bibimbap for lunch. Their banchan are delicious, typically 5 are provided with each meal. Potatoes, broccoli and kimchee are always given, some others vary from time to time. I really enjoy coming here, the atmosphere is nice and the waitstaff mostly friendly. They close every meal with a slice of orange or a caramel apple slice to cleanse your palate. I've been going here for at least 5 years straight, when I come back home to Michigan over xmas. At a glance, it is an above-average Korean restaurant that offers a combination of Americanized and authentic Korean dishes. But if you compare it to a big city (NYC, DC, Chicago), then you'll fall short of expectation. Their weekday lunchboxes are pretty good, though it won't leave you 100% full, more or less 80% full (which is a good thing). While they reside in a dark abandoned mall structure (check out Lazy Lizard across from them, there's bound to be ghosts), they have an average decor with a reasonable space to accommodate large and small groups. I really enjoy their mini dishes that come with Korean entrees. Though I don't think they come with the Japanese-inspired ones (just ask, they'll typically include them for you). Just don't expect the mini dishes if you're only getting hot tea. Their bibimbab is good, though their rice can tend to get overcooked. Their sauce is unspectacular but fulfilling. The spring rolls are fantastic, as well as bossom. If you have a craving for Korean food, there really isn't anyone better in the nearby area. You'll have to track over to Ann Arbor or downtown Detroit in order to find anything comparable. read more

The Korean barbeque is so wonderful, a little pricey, but wonderful. All the authetic side dishes; including kimchi, bean sprouts, rice, dipping sauces. I adore this place. Our server was helpful with suggestions, ideas for our lettuce wrap, not overbearing - very pleasant. I like that the manager comes through to ensure that the experience is good. My sister also tried the fresh salmon sushi that she said was melt in your mouth delicious. Goo Man Doo appetizers were flavorful, the spring rolls not overly greasy. We even tried the green tea tempura ice cream - super tasty. Save me a table, I will return!! p.s. I spent three weeks in Korea eating with Koreans, this is good food! read more

I have been CRAVING bi bim bab for over a YEAR since I left LA, so I was overjoyed when one of my lovely Yelp friends checked in here and I saw it pop up, as I had just assumed there were no bi bim bab places in metro Detroit, and if there were, no way they would be as good as the places in LA, riiiight? WRONG. This place is as good as the bi bim bab places in LA!! We were greeted by the friendly and helpful manager who introduced us to the drink specials, and then the bf and I proceeded to order some kalbi and chicken bi bim bab. While the bf cooked up the kalbi, I tasted all the banchan (side dishes), and they instantly took me back to the good ol' days at USC. Then my bi bim bab came, and I took a hopeful taste, and I just exclaimed to the bf: "YES! It's like we're in LA, baby." First things first, the food is good. No complaints about the food. As much as I hate to though, there were a number of things which brought down their rating in my mind. First, the prices are getting higher and higher, and the portions are very small for such expensive prices. Service, at least at our last visit, left a lot to be desired. The waitress actually had the nerve to come up and ask for a bigger tip, despite the fact that we had to constantly badger her for refills on side dishes and drinks. Kind of disappointing, are used to like this place more. Next time I will go to Dae Jang Keum, much more generous portion and better attitude read more

We had lunch here with friends and opt for the traditional Korean BBQ. The meat quality was ok, the side dishes were limited and definitely can be better. The service was good, but the food offering needs improvement. They should consider upping their game on the side dishes. Upping their game on the quality of the meats would also help. The vents weren't the best because the restaurant had that smoking smell from the BBQ- not a killer, but it may be depending on customer. read more

We've dined here several times (and loved it) but won't return. We stopped by and were turned away, bc "the kitchen had closed". It was 20 min before closing, and we planned to get a quick meal, not the BBQ. Others were just starting to eat their meals. If your kitchen closes a half hr before you close, say so on your webpage. read more

This place is way overpriced, the quality of food here is good, but it is not reasonable price. Also, you have to pay for extra rice! Service is ok. Pros: -they offer sushi, korean food -you get a mint with your check receipt Cons: -the mall that its in is dead, looks a bit depressing -this is the dealbreaker for me RICE IS $1.50 EXTRA -kbbq meat is way overpriced -understaffed, our waiter comes over quick to get our money, but not to refill our drinks -you would think you are paying extra for "atmosphere" but it really isnt that nice inside or outside of the place. read more

Heard about this place from a friend. Finding the entrance to the restaurant was an venture but once we found it the looks of the restaurant was very appealing. We were greeted as we walked in the staff was very pleasant. We were seated quickly and served drinks quickly also. Asked for appetizer mon doo and it was just like the ones I would get when I was in Korea so yes this authentic food. The main course came in a timely manner and man it is prepared and served just like it was when I was in Korea all 4 tours for a year each time. We will with out a doubt become regular customer. Went to eat with my girlfriend. The old ugly hostess gave us a funny look & went into the kitchen. 5 minutes she came back out, ignored us, and proceeded to seat a family that came in after we asked to be seated. The staff is obviously biased, food is over expensive, and service is crap! Don't go here, better korean food & service is served at Daebak BBQ in Southfield or goto O'Sushi 10 minutes down the road! read more

Food: We ordered the bulgogi and the spicy pork, the meat was ok. I did like that the all the meat is from the mid west. We also ordered the cold noodles which comes in large and small sizes and after a big meal of bbq the smaller portion was more than enough, and it cools you down after all that bbq. They also serve sushi, but I decided to pass on sushi at a Korean restaurant. Overall the experience was ok, the wait staff gets super busy, so service is ok. Also our grill kept shutting off which was a little annoying. read more
