We stopped into Middleburg for the day to check it out. Stumbled across this place for lunch. It was PACKED but we got a seat inside. It's a really cute little bar/restaurant. Has some historical roots. The service was great. I ordered the fish and chips, which were very tasty. My fiance ordered the burger which was phenomenal and my mom ordered the Reuben (delicious). We ate here on Saturday and unfortunately witnessed behavior that completely ruined our experience. On more than one occasion, patrons of the restaurant were loudly heckling and directing racist remarks at people both outside and inside the restaurant. At one point, four women (pictured) were screaming "this is America" at a couple who weren't even inside the restaurant. It was aggressive, inappropriate, and clearly racially charged. What was even more disturbing was that restaurant employees appeared to encourage or at least condone this behavior instead of shutting it down. It was shocking to witness and created an extremely uncomfortable atmosphere. No establishment should allow this kind of conduct from its patrons, especially when it crosses into open hostility and racism. read more

We were trying to get into the holiday spirit by visiting the shops in Middleburg when hunger struck and found this place. It's your typical bar style setting and food. The space is on the smaller. It's good for those drinking at the bar who don't mind standing but for dining there's only a few tables. The employees here are very nice and efficient. We didn't have to request refills or anything. They were constantly stopping by but not overdoing it where you couldn't enjoy your food. Surprisingly for bar food they had a lot to offer on the menu. However I did ask what's a go to that can never be a bad pick and was pointed towards the burgers. So glad I picked it because it was pretty good. The other people at my table picked between wings and nachos. They said it was just okay but for what it was, it wasn't terrible. All and all I find that it's a good stop for some quick food and it's not too expensive either so a win. read more

Decent, very casual spot right in the heart of Middleburg. This spot gets really busy really quick. They have a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, so it's a perfect lunch spot and very reasonably priced. Right in the center of downtown Middleburg, this location is so convenient. The food and service were also great! We came in for dinner on a Tuesday night. For appetizers, we got the sampler basket of fried fish, onion rings, fries and cheese jalapeño. There were not many fries, maybe 2 or 3 which was a bit lacking. But everything tasted amazing, especially the onion rings. Love that it came with three dipping sauces, there was a cocktail sauce, sweet honey mustard and ranch. We had the grilled salmon and cheesesteak for entrees. The grilled salmon was good, came with some veggies and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were very bland, missing butter and cream. It's pretty much straight up mashed potatoes. The cheesesteak was tasty and moist and cheesy. The server came by to check up on us many times to make sure our drinks were refilled and everything was good. A nice little place on the corner in Middlesburg, VA - A great little bedroom community not far from DC. We came for late lunch after the main lunch rush as we were wandering. Super hot out, so we decided to venture inside to look for seating. We were sat right away and the bar tender took our drink order upon us sitting down. I had a cider and my wife had a Blue Moon draught. The menu is pretty much pub food. We both ordered burgers of sort. I had the Irish burger, which had a fried egg on it. Came with fries. We have been here numerous times. Never had an issue. Today makes me question ever going back. Waiter brought our drinks quickly. Mine had a dead fly in it. I immediately point it out to Brad. Brad takes it away and comes back with a new drink. Based on his attitude (he never apologized for the fly at all) I don't know if he just fished the fly out or what so I don't touch it. He never comes back to the table once to ask if we need anything. Not once, but I did see him do this to other tables. We watched as they brought our food to another table just for them to realize it after a few minutes. Then they bring my wife two chicken strips they forgot to put on her plate. So wish I had checked Yelp b4 we came here................Or at least if you do eat here recommend you avoid the mussels which are so overcooked (hard and rubbery) it's impossible to get them out of their shell, broth is like red colored tasteless water and toasted baguette is actually half a dozen very very thinly sliced hard baguettes ($17). Bruschetta which should also be avoided is slightly warmed-up (not toasted) slices of baguette buried in grated cheese and swimming in balsamic ($9)............where did this chef learn his trade??????????? Pulled pork incredibly bland ($12). $2.75 Lemonade and $2 Ice Tea with no refills. Expect flies in restaurant which come in everytime door is opened. All servers were male and not one of them asked us if our meal was OK even though mussels and bruschetta sat on table pretty much untouched.........in fact after our order was delivered they never came near us again except to present the $50 bill! Food was good, staff friendly and very attentive, prices reasonable, but the establishment really needs a very deep cleaning. Had to use the restroom before leaving and couldn't help but worry what the kitchen must look like after seeing the condition of the bathroom. Rating a 2, but if they clean things up and keep it that way, could easily be a 4 with location, menu and staff. Thought Middleburg was upscale. read more

This place is fantastic. Best bar food you'll find anywhere. The menu has tons of options, but the specials are ridiculously good. If you get really lucky they'll have the Chicken Parm sub, or the Grilled Salmon BLT on. They are both delicious. There's usually a bunch of homemade soup specials as well, they are all great. The service is excellent. The bartenders work as a team for all the tables so you don't have to wait for a drink or to order. They also have the best outdoor space in town. The patio is super dog friendly. They have plenty of water bowls and you can even order an unseasoned dog chicken, or steak for your furry friend. Live music every Saturday, and Sunday. Wandered over to Red Horse Tavern on a nice almost-summer evening in May. We were seated at a table outside quickly, and then started perusing the touch less menu via a QR code. Got the potato chip nachos and enjoyed them. Homemade potatoes chips sliced thicker than a typical chip but with crunch and enough structure to hold up the melted cheese blend, sour cream, and and tomato topping. The menu mentioned diced tomatoes and that wasn't quite the case, but this was a unique dish that kept us munching till our entrees arrived. This isn't a fancy place (which I think is a good thing) but servers are attentive with several people checking in on us over the course of our meal but food quality was good. We got the grilled flank steak salad, with one ordered medium and the other medium rare. Both came out as ordered and set in front of the right person, which doesn't seem to happen at restaurants too much these days without a server awkwardly standing next to your table looking confused and holding two dishes until you claim what you ordered. My husband and I visited Red Horse Tavern on our way out of Middleburg, back to DC, this past Thursday afternoon for lunch. We discovered the restaurant the evening before, when driving back into town from visiting a winery and noticed the front patio was packed and looked like a bunch of fun. Lunch was no different. We arrived around 12:30 PM where only a couple of outdoor tables were occupied. Upon arrival, we noticed a sign asking for patience with food delivery as RHT is understaffed - so sit back and enjoy the dining experience. Managing our expectations, we sat ourselves and was quickly asked for our drink and appetizer order. As we waited for our beverages, RHT quickly filled up with tourists, locals, and folks grabbing take out. We ordered the Jalapeño Poppers for an appetizer, the Buffalo Chicken Salad and The Glennwood Wrap for our entrees. My husband had to take a work call while we were waiting for our order and the servers did not seem to mind us taking a while to get through our food and everything was timed perfectly. Overall, our experience was incredibly pleasant and the food was very good! So I was a bit shocked when I saw a few of the past reviews complaining of the service and attitudes. I thought RHT did a great job explaining they are a small business and wasn't staffed at full capacity - trying to handle the demand of Salamander tourists & local, everyday orders. The incredible weather and plethora of dogs surrounding us didn't hurt the ambience carried throughout RHT's vibe.
