I've been going to this shop for a few years now and have always had a good experience. As a mountain bike rider its refreshing going into a shop and seeing a Yeti displayed in all its majesty. Its also refreshing to talk to employees and mechanics that understand mountain bikes. I've had a lot of work done by the mechanics here. Everything from wheels built, to bikes assembled to a general tune up. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. I've even asked questions for work I would be doing at home on my bike and they were very helpful in that case as well. I like that I can ask them openly if a part on my bike is trash and they will give me a no bullshit answer. I have recently moved to Brooklyn and for minimal work/odd and ends I will go to a more local shop but for anything major where trust is required I will always come back here. read more

Have used the store before four routine service. However, on a recent trip to the store I brought my bike in on a Sunday afternoon. Upon entering I was greeted and informed by multiple staff members (eating pizza while sitting down)they were "too busy" to do the job and had "enough work to do" (gesturing to bikes inside and outside the store). They told me to come back on Thursday at the earliest and that they may be able to do the work. Leaving the bike they said was not an option as they had no place to store it event though I could wait for the work to be done. I took my bike up the street to another store and received excellent service and will not return to this store. read more

I can definitely sympathize with some of these comments. I think the staff may need some gender sensitivity training. I am not generally overly sensitive but when I look back on this instance it still bothers me. I went into the shop a while back to buy a helmet and fill up my tires. I was the only one in the store and seemed to attract the attention of most of the employees. Collectively I was told that: I didn't know how to pump up my bike tires (I am an experienced rider and triathlete); my legs were tan because I was in the Hamptons all summer (not quite - just training for races); I shouldn't have the tires I had because they were too dangerous for me (again, experienced rider and I had gotten them for free from a friend on a race team who gets new tires all the time). I also was moving back to the area after a few years away and was looking for some riding groups. I made the mistake of inquiring about the group ride post on the wall. One of the employees told me "we just ride around the block." Haha I implied, but seriously... "We just ride around the block" he said again. I gave a confused smile and walked out. Good range of bikes and helpful sales staff - until you make purchases that is. Post sales support is lacking big time. I put over $2000 into a new bike from here and was expecting better support. The is a great deal of variance in how much the sales staff care about their customers. Won't call any individuals out here, but management should get feedback from their customers - I have no doubt they are losing referral and repeat business due to particular sales staff. read more

As newbie on the cycling scene, I went into BicyclesNYC with a fair bit of trepidation. I needed to get shoes, sunglasses, and get fitted on my tri-bike. Sam spent some time with me and got me accustomed to using the clips and gave me some great pointers. Just got back from my 1st ride in the park and I couldn't done it without him. If you need help with spin or cycling shoes, Sam (Spin Show Guru) is the man to see! I had gotten a pair of spin shoes as a gift that were killing my feet so i called here and the person i spoke with was very nice and helpful. He suggested i come in and see Sam, which i did and am very grateful for. Sam helped me get a new pair of shoes that fit so much better and now my feet are the last thing i think about when i'm spinning, as Sam said they should be. I just went in to purchase a folding bike and my experience was very pleasant. I had already done research at home, so I had a good idea of what I wanted. Regardless, Shane helped me with all my questions and was very knowledgeable. He was just a very pleasant and made everything simple. Bought spin shoes a month ago...first time I used them they were so painful...I called right away and they told me to come in anytime and they would figure out something....fast forward A MONTh later I finally had time to go back uptown...and they not only spent and insane amount of time refitting me they used a heat sensor to find how high my arch was and replaced my shoes (with no box mind u-I did have receipt) free of charge... Used the shoes tonight for spin and they were perfect!!! These guys take customer service to next level!!! read more

Customer service at its best ! Emily, Keith and Adrian took their time listening to my needs and goals and helped me find the perfect bike ( Canondale Evo) without ever pushing a sale. Jeff patiently went back on forth with me multiple times on email with several suggestions. As a novice to biking, my experience with the team was an education in itself. I have been to other stores where someone either tried to palm off a slow moving model on me as a perfect 'beginners bike' or seemed totally disinterested in attending to someone who didn't know their way around and probably wasn't going to spend much $$$. Neither happened at Bicycles NYC as I always had someone check in on me within minutes of stepping inside, regardless of how busy the store was. This is a classic example of how brick and mortar stores can maintain their competitive edge in an age of online retail. read more

Plus, Keith (I think that's his name?) showed me how to set up a new tire, and wasn't ever snarky or pretentious about anything. As this was my first time purchasing a bike, I was a bit nervous. I had done all the research one can do online before making a purchase like this, but nothing really beats taking to someone who knows what they're talking about. Furthermore, because this is NYC, I wanted to make sure this was the right bike for me. It took two trips, but I ultimately made my decision with the help of one of their staff. I unfortunately don't remember his name, but he was fantastic. There wasn't any pressure to buy a specific model and he walked me through the differences in their stock. While I was definitely up-sold on a number of accessories, they are definitely worth it in the long run (lights, locks, extra security). My advice to anyone is make sure you have a budget in mind for what you'd like to spend and make sure you include all the extras. If you're purchasing a bike in NYC you want to make sure it's right for you. This shop's prices are average and they're super friendly. They even helped me get all the extras installed. Definitely worth a stop by even if you're just checking everything out. read more

I hadn't ridden my bike in over two years, and I felt like total poop for not using my bike during the pandemic bike shortage when people want to ride but can't find a bike. After a couple years in storage, my Liv bike was in desperate need of some maintenance. I brought it in on a Wednesday and was told that due to staffing shortages, the repair would take a few days. To my surprise, it was ready THE NEXT MORNING. I just took my bike out for my first ride in years, and it rode as well as it did the day I bought it in 2015. I was unjustifiably worried I'd be upcharged because my bike looked like a dusty old mess, but they only gave the necessary tune ups. I have no idea how $100 for a tuneup compares to others in the city, but in my mind, it was more than fair because it was basically like getting a brand new bike. I used fellow Yelpers reviews to find this place. I hobbled in here after the entire rear gear assembly on my bike just shattered while I was riding in Central Park. Weird - I know. I'm sorry I don't remember his name (Hispanic fellow) but the person who helped me was fantastic! He fixed me right up and the price was absolutely fair. I have a bike repair right across the street from me and I live farther downtown but I would totally make the trip uptown to see these guys when I need something again. My bike works great now! I bought a new bicycle three months ago. The staffs in the store assembled it. The chain fell off on the first day of long ride. I fixed it by myself. When I rode on the bicycle next week, the chain fell off again, and the front tire bursted. I brought it to the store in order to fix it. It costed 50 dollars to carry the bicycle by an uber car. I rode the bicycle few weeks later, the front tire bursted again, and I fell to the ground. It costed 70 dollars to bring the bicycle to the store. I changed the front tire and tubes, fit costed 200 dollars! The left side of my body was seriously injured, so I couldn't ride the bicycle more than one month. I spent extra time and 300 dollars. read more

I am having a bike shipped to me, and needed a place to receive the bike, assemble it, as well as tune it up. I was told for $70.00 they will do it all. Done, can't beat that. All I have to do is call them with the tracking number. They said it will be ready the same day they get the delivery. Let's see how the bike is once I pick it up, but so far, I am happy. read more

I had a very positive experience with the purchase of a new bike @ Jeff's. First off, I commute as well as cycle on the weekends, so a good bike that functions very well and is fitted to me are essential ingredients. I looked into several bike shops in the city and, while all moderately helpful, Jeff's was the only shop that got what I was looking for. They suggested a brand and frame. After I researched this and its alternatives I returned and reviewed / compared all of the brand / frame options. I was 100% satisfied at the end that we had the best bike (which is the one they suggested). Then I had to make the upgrades I wanted: improved wheels, a tight cassette, pedals, plus miscellanea such as lights. They listened to my suggests and made their own; in the end, again, I was 100% satisfied. My order had some troubles given all the disparate parts. They kept me informed and also made sure I got everything I ordered. Lastly, once all together we had about an hour's fitting. A great and friendly bike shop on the UES that focuses on service and having a good selection of good products. I highly recommend them and will go to them first for all my biking needs. UPDATE: I've gone back to Jeff's for multiple items, helmet, gloves for winter biking, bike bag, bike rack, a second set of wheels and disc brakes for an older mountain bike. The service was always honest, courteous, knowledgeable and fast. They deal with a wide range of bikers and treat all of them with respect. I came to Bicycles NYC to have my sons Huffy scooter checked. The not so savvy mom I am, did not put it together correctly. They fixed the scooter and my 3 year old was able to try out a 16" bike and a Mico scooter which he loved! They were sold out in the color he wanted so I ordered online. I have to say that Lucas was amazing! Very helpful, knowledgeable and great with my very shy son. All of the staff seemed great, but Lucas stuck out to me. Thank You Lucas! I wish I didn't have to come here to write this complaint but honestly the customer service here was so terrible I have never experienced this before. I was having troubles with my bike gears and I called this shop to see if they could fix it, the person on the phone was already not very cordial and said just bring it in and we will look. The next day I went in and the man who greeted me was so unfriendly and rude, he literally didn't say hello he just said " what do you want" and I said I'm having troubles with my gears.. "we sit. Do repairs here" and he just quickly looks at my bike and says there is a price missing and I asked if maybe he knew where I could go to repair it and he just said "no" and walked away!! I understand they were maybe overworked but I'm always very polite and friendly as a customer I really don't think I deserved that level of disrespect. If they couldn't help me the least he could say is I'm sorry we don't do that here but good luck. Because of that I will never go back here. I ended up going to trek where they were so nice and actually fixed my bike for free! read more

This is my neighborhood bike shop, and I really wanted to like it and have given it several chances to be the great shop I'd hoped it would be. At first it seemed like a really friendly place but that vibe didn't hold up. My experiences here (repairs on my old bike, buying some gear and tools, and now looking to invest in a new road bike) have been mixed. Repairs have been fast, good and reasonable. Customer service/sales is another story. Mediocre. Very. They carry a small but decent selection of bikes but the atmosphere here is very unwelcoming if you are not prepared to go along with everything they say/recommend or if you have too many questions. Or if you have a problem with an item purchased in their shop. Then the friendliness runs thin. At Jeff's, I've experienced pushy sales, upselling, high prices on certain items, attitude from staff including the manager, lack of professionalism at times, and unwillingness to accept responsibility or even apologize when an error was made by a salesperson that resulted in my not being able to use the cyclocomputer that I bought there. The error was eventually sorted when the manager finally intervened, but it took way longer than it should have (weeks not days) and they didn't seem at all sorry for the inconvenience their misinformation caused. The manager acted like he was doing me a big favor by helping and treated me like I was bothering them, despite the fact that I couldn't use the product that I spent over a hundred dollars on in their shop from the moment of purchase until three weeks later (and despite trying very hard to be nice about it all and just get the issue straightened out). The last time I was there they were rushing a girl who was obviously new to cycling into purchasing an expensive road bike. Since then I've been shopping around for another place to buy my new bike and have had much better experiences at Larry's on Second Ave and at Tread all the way up in Inwood and even at Sid's. The friendly, homey vibe at this store is all surface. Don't be misled by it. They just want to get you to buy a bike whether it is above your pricepoint or not, and make you feel that if you don't aim high (ie carbon) you're not getting a great bike (even though they carry top-brand bikes in the non-carbon entry-level range that have been recommended to me by other riders and other shops). At Jeff's they want you to buy things in their shop, at full MSRP, but dont much care how you feel, what might work best for you, or how you are treated after you've made the purchase. If you are willing to suck it up, are happy following all their recommendations and not having an opinion of your own, and don't mind being strong-armed, then your experience here might be better than mine. If you want better from the bike shop you patronize, then steer clear. read more

I just bought a Cannondale bike from these guys and I am very happy. Abe Soler was the sales person that helped me and he did not steer me wrong. He had a great deal of knowledge about the bikes and he is a cyclist himself, so he knows what he is talking about. This is definitely the bike shop that I will continue to go to for my biking needs. Extremely bad repair service. people have no expertise in bikes at all !!! In addition they want to sell unnecessary repairs!!! I had a flat back tire. When discussion the necessary the people there wanted to tell me that my brakes were rusty. I just replaced them a couple of month before and they were not rusty at all. (I am an experienced biker form Germany, grew up with bikes, ride them every day and fix them by myself normally if I have the tools). When they replaced my back tire the valve was not matching with the one on the front. They did not tell me and only after I complained they gave me an adapter so i don't need two different air pumps now. When leaving the shop the chain was far too lose and the gear not re-adjusted. Besides this the costs were on the far upper end ! In summary, they did everything wrong what could go wrong in a simple repair. I could have done it better by myself and with much less problems. Just simply don't go there and do not support people having no clue on bikes! read more

In response to Adam M's review below: absolutely. Cute blonde girls are treated incredibly different than others. I've been researching folding bikes for several weeks now. I went into Larry & Jeff's on 3rd Ave. tonight to look specifically at the Dahon Speed Uno. I went in, wandered around several times and looked at all the Dahons they had on the floor. Several guys in Larry & Jeff's shirts were standing around, and not one asked me if I needed help. Then, since I didn't see the bike I am interested in, I asked one of the many guys. "Oh, I wouldn't know about that," he said and nodded toward the girl behind the counter and the guy next to the counter. I went over. There was a cute blonde talking to the woman behind the counter. The guy next to the counter looked at me, then proceeded to play with the girl's dog that was peeking out of her bag, instead of asking me if I needed help. As I said, "Excuse me," to get his attention, he interrupted and said, "Sorry, unless you have a cute dog like this girl, I won't help you first. " Har har. I had just had a long day at work and with the 100+ degrees temperature outside which I had just walked several blocks through, I was not in the mood to be ignored and then rebuffed--especially when I was a serious customer who knew exactly what I wanted. I faked a laugh, and then said, "I was wondering if you had the Dahon Speed Uno in stock." He replied that he thought he had just sold his last one, but wasn't sure. As he was looking it up, I inquired about the cost. "$600" he said. I almost choked because I knew the MSRP on the bike was $375. I told him so. I then realized he was getting it mixed up with the Dahon MU Uno. I told him this as well. He looked at me like I was crazy. I proceeded to explain to him that the Dahon Mu Uno had a curved frame, the Dahon Speed had a straight one, not to mention the nearly $300 price difference. I may as well have been speaking Greek. So with the lousy customer service I experienced, and very little knowledge about their inventory, I will most definitely NOT be spending my hard earned money here. read more

This review is long overdue, however, I felt compelled to spread the good word about Sam, aka the Spin Shoe Guru. If you have difficult feet to fit, as I do, then Sam is your guy! He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and will persevere until you are in the shoes you need to get the most enjoyment from your spinning/cycling activities. Sam spent several hours working with me over the course of a month and special ordered a number of different brands/styles of shoes for me to try until we got it right. I ended up with a pair of Lake spin shoes (apparently good for long, narrow, low-volume feet) and I've been happily spinning ever since. If you're in the market for new shoes I highly recommend you visit Sam, as he truly is the Spin Show Guru! read more

I have been in here about three times and worked with a different staff member each time. They have all those little things you need- tubes, butt butter, shot blocks, device batteries and then a lot of clothing and accessories. Each time I've gone in it has been for help with something related to my bike. They are so quick to get your bike up on the stand. I feel that the service is an excellent value. Next time I'm taking a little cash for tips (is that cheesy?) because these bike mechanics deserve it. They fixed things I didn't know needed to be fixed (at no extra charge from what I came in for) and took time to explain a few things about my chain that were super important due to modifications I'd had done to my gears. If they had more selection of women's clothing I'd give five stars. (Of course no one does and all bike gear for women is mostly ugly so it's not their fault.) read more

Went in today for a new tube ($16.50 with labor), wound up needing a new tire, too (20 bucks for basic). In and out within 15 minutes. Friendly, professional, and genuinely decent staff. They cater to high end cycling, as well as weekend family riders like us. Great experience :-) read more
