I bought an electric bike off of Amazon that I had to partially assemble. I had low tire pressure and my breaks were super squeaky. I tried 3 bike shops before here and none would help me. I had a flat on my way to work and no extra tubes. Came in here to get it changed rather than fussing with it myself and maaaaaaaan am I glad I did. The guy who changed my tire needs some sort of gold medal for rear tire changing speed. I barely sent one work email and he was done. It seemed like it took about the same amount of time for him to change it as it would have taken most people to just take the back wheel off. Used to be my local bike shop but feel like I've been squeezed lately and will not return. The prices are outrageous and astronomical compared to anything else in the area. Guy charged me $20 to install a chain and fix one pin. Price was $15 to install a new chain. Just squeeze an extra $5 out. Also clearly told me it would be $20 to install a new chain. Not sure but this guy wasn't overly enthusiastic either. Prices also for any item whether it be a cassette or a chain will be 40%-60% over retail. I got a new chain and a cassette for $120 at Trek UES (also Gotham, spokesman, Toga, Paragon, NYC Velo, REI and you would have charged me the game) 200 and not even nice about it. read more

I shipped my bike to this store for a cycling event, from Texas. I had very specific fit measurements and a host of small things needing to be done in the build-up. Jeff, Sam and Adrian made the experience seamless, delivered on time and were ready for me to send my bike back home. i went in wanting a bike in 63cm (big, big size) within 4 days (wanted it before a long weekend) and they couldn't have been more friendly. we ordered a bike from cannondale, got it there in just a couple of days, set it up, got me the stuff i needed to go with it and off i went. I haven't dealt with them for follow up service yet, but i'll report back when i do. it's a bit inconvenient to get to from my neighborhood (morningside), and for little stuff I go to ModCycles on Frederick Douglas (around 114th?) but for bigger purchases I'd definitely go back to larry and jeffs. unlike 90% of bike shops in nyc, they seem to be equally able to be cool to both the fixie-hipsters and the racing crowd without being condescending. read more

Just moved to NYC from CA and my bike got somewhat perturbed in storage so I called Jeff's at 5 minutes to 10 AM on a Monday morning and asked if I could bring my back in for a tune-up. (I was walking the day before and had asked a bike rider if they knew a good bike shop near by; Jeff's was their response.) I was at the store ten minutes after the call. Louis fixed my tire, corrected the weird brake snafu and did a tune-up on the gears, etc. I was out of there and back riding within 15 minutes. The cost for this was $16 which I think was pretty cheap. (An inner tube was replaced.) Yes, I'm a fan. read more

Went in to buy clipless pedals and shoes and had a very pleasant experience. I was helped right away and got to try out the shoes and pedals there. They replaced the pedals for me and threw in the cleats for free. The guy who helped me was really friendly and didn't seem like he was trying to rip me off or anything. When I needed bottle cages, he told me the ones I was looking at were fancy and they had regular, cheaper ones that were more what I was looking for. I recently had a bike fit at HSS for some lower back issues. I was told that in addition to some PT, I needed to have my front fork replaced so that I could raise the bars 8cm. HSS recommended Sam at Bicycles NYC to get it done. I buy all of my regular biking supplies there, but had never gone for service. Sam met with me to evaluate how he could get the job done. He quickly figured out the most efficient way. There was a delay getting the fork, but he immediately gave me a loaner so I could continue to ride. He called me every few days to let me know how it was progressing. What impressed me the most was that he never tried to charge me more $ for the fix after the initial consultation. Too many time when I have gone to other bike stores for tune-ups, the charges just keep on coming. I just got the bike back and the ride is amazing. I used to ride my bicycle everywhere when I lived downtown. Moved uptown, and maybe it was the traffic, the lack of good crosstown routes, too much work, who knows? I stopped. My bike sat for two years or more with no use. Then comes the Pandemic and the Subway was a non -starter. AS I began to go nuts because of the lockdown, I thought of that bicycle mouldering in the alley storage room. I had seen Bicycles NYC when walking around the neighborhood, even told other people about though I had never been there. When I found out they were open, I called, and Sam said to bring the bicycle right over. I had been a customer of the store since the Larry and Jeff days (2000) and bought 2 bikes there. Over the last two seasons my tune ups were terrible. In fact, the bike tech put my front tire on backwards. The year before they didn't tell me my tires were bald. I found out when I was cycling on LI in Syosset, got a flat. Took the bike to Bicycle Planet, the bike tech showed me my tires and I replaced both. Really shoddy work. I also felt the were very dismissive and patronizing because I am woman. I just purchased my first road bike from Jeff's Bicycles Plus, and I recommend this shop to anybody looking to buy their first mountain bike or road bike, or anything bike related. My first impression was that they had a wide selection of bicycles to suit riders of varying levels. When I spoke to the staff, I realized that they weren't just selling me a bike, but a life style. They're a great group of guys who enjoy life, and show what biking is all about. They genuinely care about their customers, and they're fun to talk to. They also helped me figure out what I was looking for and what I wanted versus what I needed. The best part about the staff is that they invest their time into the customer and safety by finding the correct fit. The staff at the store not only helped me find satisfaction and happiness with my new road bike, they also taught me everything I needed to know. I wasn't familiar with riding that type of bike, so they put me on a trainer and taught me about positioning and gears until I was comfortable. Great bike store and service. I brought in my old Cannondale Lefty that I hadn't used in three years, whose hydraulic brakes needed to be bled. They set up an appointment for drop off. They were precise in letting me know job was completed and gave me a general once over to the whole bike without me asking for it and without even tacking anything on to the bill. A few weeks later my rear brake went dead again, they took in the bike promptly rebled the brake and didn't charge me a cent. Class act. No surprise that L&J's has been around so long. read more

If I could give more stars, I would! The staff in the shop have now saved me twice! Early in the pandemic, they made time to assist me with a tire change for my newly acquired electric bike and accommodated me in under an hour. When I got another flat that stranded me on the 59th St. Bridge, the fantastic crew let me make a special appointment - at a time when they would normally be closed - so that I could safely get my bike back to Queens and have it available for my commute the next day! Again, they serviced my bike in under an hour and even adjusted my front brakes as a courtesy (and without me asking) during my tire change. I cannot say enough good things about this shop! Friendly and knowledgeable staff in a fun and welcoming environment. I make it a point to get all of my gear and parts here versus online shopping. I'm been an avid cyclist for many years now and have spent a lot of money and had many experiences with the majority of the bike shops around NYC. I really don't like writing complaints as I try to be empathetic and patient but after 6 visits to this store, I have to say this has been the worst customer service experience I've ever had with a bike shop. Details below: Trips 1-3: Initial 1st visit to purchase went fine. 2nd visit to pick up the bike, purchase new shoes/pedals, and get a fitting was terrible. The woman that sold us the bike and does the fittings was trying to upsell my wife $250+ shoes (whose a complete newbie with an entry level bike). Ok, fine. I get it. I understand that they are a business just like any, and aggressive upselling is part of that. But she was incredibly rude when my wife and I discussed simply purchasing shoes online since they weren't carrying a mid-ranged shoe (e.g.$150-200 range) that was more entry level. It was actually quite shocking as she switched from seemingly friendly to incredibly rude and passive aggressive. The experience and tension was so bad that we really just wanted to leave and never return, but unfortunately we still needed the fitting. So we just let it go, purchased shoes elsewhere, and returned another day to just get in and out for the fitting. The 3rd visit went fine. Trips 4-6: With under 100 miles of riding the new bike, my wife got a flat tire. It happens, no big deal. However, the TUBELESS tires would not hold air pressure even after allowing the seal to form and inflating multiple times. We returned to the store to have them check it out. After inspection and presumably a fix, the mechanic said it should be good to go. The next day we noticed the tire was still leaking so we returned for a 5th visit. Another inspection and a patch was applied inside the tire. We left and then, once again, we found the tire was still leaking so we returned again for a 6th trip. But instead of replacing the defective tubeless tire, they offer to insert tubes inside of the tubeless tire. This too would not work as the mechanic could not get the tube properly seated on the rim within the tubeless tire. Again, instead of replacing the defective tubeless tire, they then informed us that we'd need to purchase new tires all together. We purchased new tires and will not be returning to this store again. TL;DR The staff is incredibly rude and passive-aggressive, the customer service was terrible, and they would not replace the brand new, defective tubeless tire that came with the bike when purchased. read more

three visits; one good experience, two bad. On one visit to replace a stripped axle bolt they didn't have the part and left it to me to get it from Cannondale. Then they didn't know how to install the part and I had to call Cannondale and get instructions for them. I don't have a special wrench so I still have them install (screw in) the axle coil. So they follow MY instructions with MY part, 5 minutes, $50- !!!!?!?!?!?!?! On another occasion I am buying 3 high end Cannondale race bikes for friends from abroad. All I need is for them to order the bikes direct from cannondale and assemble them. Other less convenient stores offer to do it for 10-15% over cost since I'm paying in advance. I inquire if Larry & Jeff's, much more convenient for me, would compete on price. They say yes and to come in to finalize the order and pay. When I get there they try to pull the "I have to talk to the manager... manager has to talk to the owner... "and they try to charge me 20% over cost. Sorry you just lost a major big ticket sale for a couple hours work. But on another occasion my girlfriend was out riding and had break trouble. She took the bike to Larry & Jeffs before speaking to me otherwise I would have steered her elsewhere. To my surprise they did a great job, on the spot, and for only $10- . I guess pretty blonds really are treated differently... So bottom line, I wont be going back to them, but my girlfriend might. read more

When service is so poor it's hard to not write a review. I'm an avid cyclist and bike racer. I spend a significant amount of money on cycling products and service every year. So do my friends. I am the type of customer this establishment would want to create a positive experience for. Or maybe not...... I attempted a trip for the 3rd time after two disappointing visits prior. This time, it started with a Thursday morning phone call upon shop opening. I asked if I could drop off my bike for a wash to prep for a Saturday race. I was told can't drop off today, next available is on Tuesday. While a good clean and wash doesn't take long, I get it. Ok fine, they are busy. Later that morning I went out for my ride and noticed something wrong with my shoe cleat. I needed a small phillips-head screwdriver for literally a 15 second adjustment. I stopped in to ask to borrow the screwdriver. Sans one lady and an employee helping her, the store was empty with no bikes in the mechanics racks and the mechanics sitting and chatting. I guess they didn't want to wash a bike that morning. (Awesome.) I asked for a small phillips-head. Got a large one. Tried it and too large. It took 20 seconds. I asked for a smaller one. I was told this was the only screw driver that is available to 'borrow.' Mind you, again, mechanics sitting around and no other bikes in the stand being worked on. As I turned away in disbelief, he told me there was a hardware store across the street. (Sweet, thanks dude.) I left and went to Sids. They knew me by name and smiled when I walked in. Handed me two different screwdrivers to let me make the quick adjustment. That is the type of service one deserves and owner's should expect their employees provide. Seems like others have been disappointed with Jeff's Bicycles based on reading the reviews. While I appreciate the Owner's responses and attempt at focusing on defending his business - maybe it's time to reconsider and focus on growing the staff to create a positive experience for his customers. read more

Both times in need of minor adjustment only to be bullied by the Mechanic and in a joint staff/mechanic effort outright lied to ..about what was needed..unbelievable..where'd they find that Mechanic guy..stay away, much better shop's in Manhattan ..Madonna lives 2 blocks away..she can afford to go there..me never again. read more

DO NOT GO TO JEFF's BICYCLES NYC - THE WORST EXPERIENCE! DO NOT BELIEVE GOOD REVIEWS! They are Liars!!!! Go somewhere else - You'll feel good about yourself. And even this description is me being nice to these Jerks. Very simply, my sister and I were looking for a new bike and we googled "Best Cycling Shops in NYC". We saw an article on Jeff's Bikes and were very excited to check out the place. We had already been to two other bike places "NYCe Wheels" which was Great and they were awesome and also "SIDS" near 14th Street, which was also pretty good. So, we had already experienced good customer service. Long story short - we thought Jeff's Bicycles was going to be a great experience because the article read "nearly around for a decade" in the upper east side, offers a variety of cycles of all shapes and sizes and experience levels, and its the staff that makes the difference plus its a specialty store for women" - So we thought Wow! Can't get better than this review. So we went on our merry way and WHAT A LIE! This was the most AWFUL- DOWN RIGHT TERRIBLE BIKE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE My sister and I have ever encountered! And yes,I wrote in Caps because this place "SUCKS!". How we were treated: My sis and I walk in and we are greeted by a gentleman. I asked a few questions such as "can you fit me to a bike? what do you think about these bike brands" Can we take a ride? Can I borrow a helmet? The Answers: This bike is for you! Pointed to some random small bike and said - Yes, this one is for you. They only sold two types of models, I felt deceived the article said they had many models _ Lies! To make matters worse they gave us only 15. min to ride the bikes - I felt pressured. Every other bike store in NYC never set a time limit. It was awful. The worst part: We asked for a helmet" he said Yes and NEVER gave us one. He did not give a dam about our Safety. Everyone in the store had the most sour faces and I just wanted to get the hell out of there. But its gets better, since the guy could tell I was not a "cyclist" he decided to show me how to properly ride a bike. And to my humiliation, he pretty much embarrassed me as my sister and the store workers watched from the glass window. I was not only hurt at the Condescending treatment but my sister was livid. The experience was so terrible it nearly ruined our beautiful spring day! It was so bad, we discussed it for two hours because we could not believe this Crap had just happened to us. I came in to get cleats on my spin shoes. They quickly attached them for me for no charge with a smile!

They did a fine job on the tune up, but didn't fill up the tires or tighten the water bottle cages - i feel that is pretty basic.
