I am a native from Philly and went to Pat's 50 years ago when there was no Gino's.The steaks were huge and the cheese was real, not some cheese spread. I was told Al's was authentic Philly. WOW these guys I talked to had no idea of a good cheesesteak! The roll was very disapointing, too soft and did not have the Italian feel like Amoroso. Also, the meat was over cooked, dry, and very skimpy for the money. Go to Jersey Mike's and get a much better steak sandwich with real cheese and plenty of meat! read more

Okay I know he talks in his ad's about PHILLY and chopped meat. All 3 of Philly's best use prime steak and yes the all chop it. Born and raised in South Philly lets call Pat's, Gino's and Jim's on South Street and ask all 3 how they handle the meat. Really makes me mad when someone thinks they are Philly. Big Al's authentic philly steak sandwiches? More like big Al the con man. The bread was ok nothing special. The meat was low quality with heavy gristle present. The cook looked like he hadn't showered in a week and wasn't groomed very well. I could go on and on, but won't. If this really is what a cheesesteak is supposed to be like then people from Philadelphia are like people from New York and don't know what good food is, they just think they do. The WORST food I have ever had in downtown delray. The employees are slow & rude. I will never go again. The chubby kid that was working in the window was rude and unprofessional - the other guy looked like he was strung out. The food was lack-luster & overpriced for using such cheap ingredients. The cheesesteak is good, i'm not going to lie. Being from Philadelphia I know a good cheesesteak. The problem comes in the fact that for a cheesesteak a soda and fries you should be prepared to pay around 15 bucks. Seems high in my opinion. Also, the staff could be a little friendlier. this place used to be better, but somehow the last few times i've gone it just hasn't been as good. one time the bread was kind of stale, and another time the sandwich was really greasy. however, when they are made well, they are damn tasty. i like the way they give you long thin slices of rib eye, instead of chopping it up into little bits like every other place does around here. a few years ago i would have rated it 4 stars, but because of its lack of consistency, i have to give it a 3. but bare in mind, if you catch them on a good afternoon, they are definitely capable of making a delicious cheese steak. read more

I agree with Dave. I have eaten at both Zio's and Big Al's. Zio's is by far your best bet for a cheesesteak. Big Al's, i thought was over priced, and not enough meat or taste. Had my cheese steak w/ American Cheese+onions and was really disappointed. Not enough meat and cheese for the amount of bread surrounding it. My wife and I both felt sick after eating here. I really don't see how there are so many good reviews on this place. The sandwiches were TERRIBLE! So NOT worth the stomachache. Went twice. Food was less than mediocre. Too expensive for the average quality and portion size.
