Greasy Cheesesteak

Just went to Big Al's for the first time. I'm a little skeptical since I have spent 30 years in the steak and deli business in Philadelphia. This place base on reviews probably makes a decent steak during the day. Unfortunately at night they seem to really drop the ball. Maybe they figure the drunker the customer the less quality the product has to be. As I'm typing this my wife just said worst cheesesteak she's ever had in her life. Super greasy super chewy. Actually smells and tastes like the grease trap. All I'm saying is that if you are the only cheesesteak joint in Delray. You need to do so much better for your customers. You actually have inspired me to consider opening a competitor cheesesteak place near you. Please do better. I'll try you again next time I'm in town to see if you take comments serious or not. Thanks for listening

Big Al's is a no frills dive on the corner of Southeast Fifth Street and Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach. You order at the window and the are a couple of dirty tables surrounded by cigarette butts on the sidewalk. Parking is by pay meter on the street. I was going to eat somewhere else that ended up being closed so while walking down Atlantic I ended up at Al's, a place I passed thousands of times but never ended up stopping. According to the story Big Al and his son Adam were Philadelphia natives who couldn't find an authentic cheesesteak experience when they moved to South Florida. They set out to create it themselves with rib eye steaks and Italian rolls and Big Al's was born. I ordered the regular cheesesteak with onions and provolone ($12.95), with an iced tea and tip the total came to $17. A small order of fries would have been another $4.75. I cleaned off the table the best I could and dined al fresco on the avenue. They are open late, all the way to 3 AM on Friday and Saturday so it is the perfect spot to grab some food to soak up the alcohol if you are bar hopping down Atlantic. I am glad to finally knock this Delray Beach staple off my bucket list.

The staff is awesome! The prices are high and the advertised prices are not true. The prices are higher in the register even when paying cash!!!!! They tack on 20% for debit cards. Advertise your REAL prices and stop ripping your customers off. I come here every week!!

This is by far one of the best hamburgers around. Don't know what they do; but they have the secret hamburger recipe. OUTSTANDING Adam!

Sounds crazy to say this one of the best Italian subs and it's in Boca Raton, FL…read more Anyways this place is the real deal! V & S Italian Deli is an authentic Italian deli. It transports you to an Italian NY deli. The place is packed, bustling spot and that alone tells you everything you need to know. You know it's good when you walk in and the place is packed. We split the Chicken Cutlet Florentine and it was absolutely incredible. Heads up: the full size is massive, so splitting it is definitely the move and still totally worth it!! The service was super friendly despite how busy it was. I had my eye on the black & white cookie too because what's an authentic Italian deli without one? Sounds like my next visit to Boca includes trying more stuff!

I found this spot through Yelp because of the strong reviews, so I decided to give it a try. When I…read morearrived, there was a long line and the place was packed -- always a good sign that something's being done right. The sandwich itself was good, made with quality ingredients and solid flavor overall. The bread and fillings were fresh, and you can tell they care about what they're serving. One small detail: I wasn't offered any sauce suggestions, and because of that, my sandwich ended up feeling a bit dry. I think a simple recommendation from the staff would've elevated the experience. Still, it was tasty and reasonably priced. The place is small, but it gets the job done -- very much a neighborhood deli vibe. Overall, a good, no-frills sandwich spot worth trying, especially if you're already in the area.

Great little coffee spot on the northern side of East Delray! My college-age daughter loves this…read moreplace, so we decided to go as a family on Mother's Day and really enjoyed it overall. I had an iced cappuccino, while others in the group got matcha, pastries, and a few other drinks. We sat outside under an umbrella, which made for a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. Everything tasted fresh and well made, and you can tell why this place has a loyal following. The only thing that surprised me was that, since it was Mother's Day and it was pretty obvious I was the mom in the group, no one wished me a happy Mother's Day. Not a huge deal, but it would've been a thoughtful touch. Also, parking is pretty limited, so be prepared and careful when pulling in. Overall, still definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a cozy coffee spot in the area!

A couple people had dogs so it's pet friendly. If we're ever back in the area it will be our go to spot!

You want a freshly toasted slice of pizza right off the beach in Delray this is the place. I had…read moretwo slices of the White pizza and it was incredible. Big slices, crispy crust, delicious. I suggest just getting a full pizza, eating a few slices there, and then taking what you couldn't finish home and reheating in an air fryer. The employees were very friendly and hard at work. On top of the fact that you were just a few steps away from the beach the ambiance gives the the feel of a New York pizza place. Trust me you can't go wrong with this spot.

I would give this establishment zero stars if possible. After an eight-hour travel day, I placed an…read moreorder for two slices of pizza and a salad. Upon arrival, I was handed a large bag for my pickup. Given the size of the packaging, I reasonably assumed the entire order was included. When I got home and realized the salad was missing, I called to request a delivery for the omitted item. Not only did the staff refuse, but they also informed me it was my responsibility to verify the order was correct before leaving. As a customer, I expect a level of professional accuracy that doesn't require me to audit my own bag. When I drove back to the restaurant, the service remained dismissive. Despite being the only person in the building, I was ignored for several minutes. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I was taught that you never blame the customer for a staff error. There was no apology, no offer of a refund for the missing item, and no gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience. Between the unprofessional attitude and the mediocre food, this was a deeply frustrating experience. I will not be returning.
