This is an updated review. My last review of Big Bad Breakfast in Homewood was in October of 2021. I was less than happy. Reluctantly, I tried it again and was pleasantly surprised. I went because I do love their pancakes. So, we got a stack, and they were, how do I say it, GREAT. However, at the last minute, since my wife got the pancakes, I ordered a traditional breakfast. Eggs over easy, perfectly cooked. Crispy bacon, perfect. Whole Wheat thick sliced toasted with homemade strawberry jam. The Jam is worth the price of admission. Then a very special surprise. They have potatoes, cut in chunks with grilled onions that are to die for. Over the top and life changing. I am 67 and for the first time in my life I had a ice coffee drink with some adult beverages added. I can't remember the name but it was really good. The service was nice, we sat at the bar because it was just the two of us. Half way through the meal, I was thinking when I could come back. Was visiting Birmingham for the weekend and looking for a great spot for Saturday breakfast. The reviews on Yelp indicated Big Bad Breakfast in Homewood was a great choice. And they were right. After a quick 30-minute wait, we were called and headed to the second floor. The weather was great outside, so the large garage door windows were open. The Huevos Rancheros, made with grits, was spectacular. It looks as good as it tasted. The spicy bacon was a perfect side. If there is a downside to BBB's menu, there are too many awesome things to order. The only complaint we had about our breakfast was the service. It took forever before our server even acknowledged our table, then more time before we got our first round of drinks. Then we were missing juice and cream after several requests. Our food arrived but without my bacon. Ten minutes go by and someone else brings out the bacon. I'm super sensitive about the challenges service staff face in restaurants since the pandemic. We gave a 20% tip and left it at that. But I can tell that the other tables next to us had a totally different dining experience given a different server.
