I ordered the lunch specials. A 2 porkchop plate with broccoli casserole and potato salad and cube steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. An extra fried wing and side of spaghetti. The lunch special prices are reasonable and the portions are big. Unfortunately the food was not good. The cornbread was stale, broccoli casserole was inedible and tasted sour. So I remember trying this place one time in 2020 and really liking it. However, I don't eat much soul food so I have not had reason to visit since then. Today was a huge disappointment. I had great service from the young lady who served my food and the cashier. Everything was presented nicely and it seemed pretty clean. Unfortunately - this food has no taste whatsoever. The salmon is really dry and way overcooked, but zero flavor. The yellow rice and black eyed peas taste the same - zero distinction, no flavor. The candy yams are ok - not mashed and still on the lower end of sweetness. The cornbread muffin is stiff and tastes like chalk. The first time I came the line was out the door. If you want some good ole big mamma's, Sunday dinner after church food (lol), then this is the place to go! The was my first time visiting the restaurant. They had so many great selections of veggies and meat entrees. I ended up ordering baked chicken with gravy and dressing and my two sides were greens and cabbage. So with each entree, you get two sides and a roll or corn bread. I believe the day I went, the dressing automatically came with the baked chicken so I wasn't charged for an extra side. The food was hot and seasoned very well. My chicken was a little on the dry side, but still delicious nonetheless. My girlfriend ordered the meatloaf. I was jealous because her meatloaf tasted way better. They also give you a good helping of food. The workers were very polite and fast and you could tell they had great teamwork. Also they prefer if you pay with cash. If you pay with a card, then I believe they may charge you a little extra, but not significantly much. Whenever I myself don't feel like cooking Sunday Dinner I can always count on Big Daddy's to come through. I ordered Door Dash on this particular Sunday. I was suppose to have Fried Chicken Breast, Collard Greens, Dressing. I forgot to ask for gravy on my dressing. The store called me to say they don't have the chicken breast at that location. No problem let me get chicken wings. I ordered a kids platter too. Barbeque Chicken Wing, sweet potatoes and Mac and Cheese. Everything and I do mean everything was good. My first and last time eating here. Waited over an hour for 2 catfish dinners and a 4 chicken wing platter. I ordered mac&cheese and yams for all of the sides with 2 additional sides of greens. They messed up my order several times. Came outside to ask my order again to still bring it out wrong. I got cabbage and black eyed peas, when taken back inside it was brung back out with the cabbage and black eyed peas and put the sides I actually ordered on the side in a side dish. Just went here with my mom and I'm sorely disappointed. The price of a veggie plate came out to be over $10 and you don't even receive a drink, and the staff tonight were not very inviting. No eye contact from the guy putting together the plates so I wasn't sure if he was listening, and the cashier was a bit stand-offish and short. And worst of all, all of my food except the green beans were SOUR. As in, old, canned food quality! I've never in my life had sour pinto beans until now. If I could, I'd give zero stars but in the past we haven't had issues to this extent. Funny story - my friend and I had just finished a spin class up the road and said we wanted some really good soul food but only sides. This was the closest place that was open so we said let's go. I went overboard and got jerk chicken with yellow rice, yams, green beans, pinto beans, coconut cake, and sweet tea. All for $17. I had SO much food, but I couldn't stop eating so all that is left is the cake. The pinto beans had to be my favorite. My friend had the fried chicken, green beans, Mac and cheese, yams, red velvet cake and lemonade. Her's was about $15 and she had enough leftovers to keep for lunch. I honestly would go to this place once a week if I wasn't concerned about gaining weight. Trust me, this place will have you looking healthy (as we southerns love to say). 5 Stars! There's nothing like a small "hole in the wall" type place in the hood with good food! They are the best ones. I'll always pull up to those 1st. My cousin told me that there are two "Big daddy" restaurants in the city, and the other stole this one's name. So it gets people confused, but they aren't the same company. This place is an ala carte type of establishment. They have different plate sizes, kind of like a Chinese restaurant with a one item, or a two-item combo with sides. As we walked inside, we were greeted by three different lady asking us what we like. My cousin knew exactly what she wanted... it took me a while because I had to look at the smorgasbord of food right in front of me without wanting it all! Everything was so delicious, including their signature pink lemonade that's already pre-bottled. There was plenty of room to sit, along with a few TVs and music playing. There were about 10 of us, and we were able to immediately grab seating. One of the employees tending to the dining area graciously pushed some tables together for our party. As the restaurant is cafeteria-style, we all then went to get in the food line. I chose a plate of 4 sides - mac and cheese, dressing, collard greens, and CANDIED YAMS!!! Oh-em-gee, can you tell which one was my favorite?!?!?! The yams...just right on the sweetness scale and baked to the perfect texture. Next on my list would be the tangy collards - also spot-on with the tenderness. The mac and cheese was just okay...eh, it didn't do it for me. It didn't give me that down-home southern vibe that I expect from soul food restaurant mac n cheese. And lastly, the stuffing was way too salty. Another member of my party agreed. Hopefully it was just a fluke that affected the batch we were served from. I spent $10.63 for the 4 sides (I just had water to drink). The same gentleman who pushed the tables together attentively checked on us while we were eating. Most of the other restaurant patrons seemed to take their food to go. The high level of cleanliness and upkeep of the interior of this restaurant (including the bathroom) stood out to me. I honestly went back and forth on whether to give 3 or 4 stars.
