The food is worth the wait. The one young lady behind the counter is my favorite. She is always pleasant and precise. The older gentleman that is the cashier does not pay attention to what he is doing and will give the wrong order away. Taking an extra second to confirm what you are giving the customer in front of you goes a long way. I hope the person in front of me is happy with my veggie plate. I also had a turkey wing meal over yellow rice with mustard greens & Mac & cheese with peach cobbler as desert... Everything was VERY BLAND. The best dish was the turkey wings (not the rice) & cornbread. They could have kept everything... I mean EVERYTHING else. I couldn't even get through the whole meal. In Atlanta for a conference and stopped in for a bite. There were 7 of us, the line was wrapped around the building and the buffet options was just as long. Soo many meats, starches and sides to choose from, and I can't leave out the dessert.!!! Peach Cobbler is an absolute must!!! Along with the friend or smothered pork chops and rice & gravy. I didn't really care for the mac & cheese, but I did have high hopes since it appeared to be baked on the top. Friendly waiter. But the food was not the greatest. My nephews literally took 2 bites of their food and were both disappointed. The Mac and Cheese was sour. The peach cobbler tasted like mop water. Every since we got a home in this area I frequent this restaurant. This location sells only beef and seafood. The talapia is so good and every side I ever tried has been.....amazing. The dine in experience is due for an upgrade, but by far one of best soul food spots on the south west side. The ladies at the front are always super nice!! Last time going to Big Daddy's 3 strikes and I'm done. 1st time guy behind the counter wanted to fuss with me I asked for yams and he gave me the souffle and he told me same thing. It's not one has marshmallows the other one doesn't. So I left tried again 1 month later Ordering for myself and someone else. I was rushed so I just got one plate. And 1 month later I tried again. I ordered my food I ask for Fried okra the lady snapped" We ain't got no okra" I asked for cabbage. Initially we were hesitant to order because this wasn't the cleanest place we could've chosen, but once my friend saw the beef ribs, she had to have them. I did not know which entree to choose as there were so many options, but I ended up going for the Jerk Chicken wings, which come with your choice of yellow rice, mashed potatoes or white rice. And two sides. I chose yellow rice, candied yams, and broccoli and cheese casserole. My friend had beef ribs with cornbread dressing and the candied yams. The food was DELICIOUS! I mean this was like grandma's house on Thanksgiving good! The yams were sweet, starchy, and thick. The jerk wings were spiced perfectly, and paired well with the yellow rice. The wings were more so jerk seasoning than jerk style, which was perfect for me. They were little, and easy to eat, and the gravy paired well with the yellow rice. The broccoli and cheese casserole was super cheesy and just outright yummy! The staff here were all very friendly, and were happy help us choose which entree and sides to choose. They made us feel very welcome where we were clearly outsiders. If you're in the mood for soul food, this is it! Sometimes this one manager gives me a discount bc I am firefighter/paramedic in uniform. But I dont care. Some people love this place, but it's gone downhill from my initial visit a year ago. Positive note: The sweet potatoes and cornbread are always on point. My complaints are as follows: inconsistent taste and mediocre Mac n Cheese. Today it tasted like black pepper was overly used in the meatloaf, baked chicken, and dressing. My friend and I couldn't finish our meals, as we had to take a few sips of water and almond milk to kill the overwhelming spice, after every bite. On top of that, the meatloaf was so hard and crunchy on two sides. As if it was reheated in a microwave. I just threw it away. Another time the chicken was not fully cooked on a child's plate. So this was very disturbing. However I check all of the food I feed my child, before he eats. I took it back and they fixed the issue. This place is a local black own business! I love supporting my BOBs (Black Owned Businesses), however this one came up a little short for me. The food looked Amazing.. Nice home cooked southern food, how can you go wrong.. What I will say is that I just caught them on an off day. So I order a veggie meal which is 4 veggie choices. One choice they didn't have.. Which was fine that had lots to choose from. So in my order I had yellow rice, black beans, cabbage and rutabaga. I sit down with my peeps and I got to dig in and there is a bug (gnat or something) in my cabbage.. Yuck! So I take it to the counter and they make me a whole new plate this time I get collards and not cabbage. And the lady give me a choice of free dessert so I pick each cobbler b/c it's my favorite and it looked sooo good. Lawd knows I didn't need it.. Lol Anyhoo, so as I'm enjoying the meal I realize that my rice is sort of hard (kinda of undercooked). And my friend says his is as well, so they replace both our rice and this time I got white, still most of the rice was lil hard, but I felt bad to keep complaining.. So we just dealt with it.. Needless to say we didn't finish the rice and beans at all. Matter of fact I did t finish most of the food. I guess I was just over it b/c there kept being an issue. I will say the collards and rutabaga was good. So we left I had my cobbler later that day and it was oh soo good. If I go back here it will definitely be for the peach cobbler!
