I've been here several times over the years, and I have never been impressed with this place. Some people love this place, but I personally can't understand it as there are far better bbq places. My last order was to go, and I had the half bbq chicken with fries and a side of Mac and cheese. The bbq chicken was ok/good but I had far better. The fries it came with tasted like it just came out the bag out the freezer from the supermarket! No seasoning on it either! They should make hand cut fries as they are far better. The Mac and cheese tasted like a cheap brand out the box! Come on Big Ed's BBQ step it up a notch! I had the Big Old Chocolate cake for dessert which is absolutely DELICIOUS! I haven't been here in a few years, but it used to be the go to rib spot when I lived in the area. While it still looks the same on the inside as it has for the last 20 years, the food has changed. The BBQ sauce is not as good as I remember. The ribs and chicken were all dry. The sides have also changed. Tasteless corn, and over cooked crinkle cut fries have replaced what I remember. There are 6 big-ass ribs on the original platter, which was way more than we could eat. There was no need to order more, but we could have if we wanted. The ribs are meaty, lean, and tender. Not what they used to be. Although the ribs looked good and the portions are great, (you can eat all you want,) there is absolutely no flavor in the ribs themselves. I had the St. Louis with the original barbecue sauce, and my wife had the baby backs with the honey barbecue sauce, and we both agreed they tasted like they were boiled into oblivion and then thrown on the grill and slathered with sauce. It's been a while since we've enjoyed BBQ in a restaurant. While I enjoy smoking my own ribs, it was nice to have somebody else do the cooking on Father's Day for a change. We all opted for the all you can eat baby back ribs, with one son an infant on the fried clams. The ribs were tender and tasty. I enjoyed the dry rub and the honey BBQ the most, and we all came to the same consensus. The garlic toast that they put on the table was tasty and buttery. These were some of the best ribs that I've had in NJ. While the batter on the clams had a well balanced flavor and not too salty, the clams were soggy. They were missing a nice crisp. Giving this place 2 stars because the food comes pretty quickly. Menus are gross & sticky. Once our order was placed we spent the rest of the visit trying to flag down our server. Thankfully other servers were happy to help us & ask our server to stop by. Our food came before our utensils & that was annoying. I was also able to finish my two side dishes before finding our server to ask for condiments - pretty annoying. I had a burger & my husband has the all-you-can-eat ribs. My burger was dry tasted off. First location and parking. The location is great. It's easily accessible and has plenty of parking. The ambiance is great. Very family style and nicely decorated. The service was very good. Our waiter was very quick and always checking his tables. The food was good. They gave us garlic bread which was delicious. My wife had the chicken and brisket with a baked potato and coleslaw. She said the potato was good n the smaller side and nothing special. She also had a side of baked beans which were good. I had the all you can eat baby back ribs that were very good. With a side of onions rings and Mac and cheese. The onion rings were delicious but the Mac and cheese was very small serving and a bit dry. We also ordered corn which were bland. The corn definitely needs work urgently. Cute place. On the outside they have cows and different cartoon cutouts in the parking lot holding ribs. And the restaurant looks like a barn. NO ONE besides the wait staff were wearing masks. And they don't have outdoor seating. We took out after our hike. I got a kids meal since it sounded like a lot of food for 10 dollars and it is! I got the ribs, with a side of garlic bead instead of fries and it came with two apple fritters. They market the ribs as best in NJ. As my friend said, everything tasted like it was under a heat lamp. So yes the ribs had good flavor but weren't the freshest and some of the meat was tough. Garlic bread was still warm and crispy. The apple fritters were not. They had good flavor too but were cold and soggy. And my 2 friends ordered sandwiches and didn't even get apple fritters even though on the menu it said it came with it. Big name ... very little customer service. Today was my nephew's graduation. In true Rich Auntie style I offered to pay for the meal for everyone and gave my nephew my credit card to pay for a pickup order placed over the internet. The meal was $200 plus. Can you explain why this fine establishment gave our food away to a door dasher without checking ID or name. My nephew had to wait nearly an hour while the order remade without any accommodation. When I called the restaurant to complain about the fact my nephew wasn't even offered a glass of water or even a discount on the next order, I spoke to the manager. He nonchalantly informed me their restaurant giving the food to the incorrect person was out of their control and they would not offer any accommodations to patronize their establishment. Read the last sentence again. You giving the food away was outside of your control huh? What is in my control is my common sense and deductive reasoning. You obviously have no customer service skills and Big Ed's will never see another dime from anyone in my family again. By the way, the food was OK at best. I really wanted to love it. I had high expectations. While the flavor of the meat was tasty, I was bothered by a couple things... 1. The brisket is sliced the total incorrect way. Slices were thin and with the tissue. 2. No base rub. Should also at least offer a 50/50 kosher salt coarse pepper rub. 3. I remember the ribs falling off the bone in my plate when I was a kid with Travis Tritt and Alan Jackson playing over the speakers. That Big Ed's is missed. All in all, the potential is there. I found the restaurant focus was all you can eat rather than carefully prepared food and a full menu. For example, there were no salad options. Great food but don't believe the "All you can eat ribs" claim. It's BS. When you ask for the 2nd serving, they bring you an order 1/3 the size and it deliberately takes 20 minutes to come.
