I don't live here was visiting from out of town I have been to so many better tasting BBQ places this is possibly the worst in a long time. Stop on the fly because who can pass up BBQ when on a beer trip? And trust me when I say it wasn't a disappointment. I had a brisket Mac n cheese (the size was an app) but it was a prefect size to go with my salad bar. The salad bar is AMAZING. It came with fresh soup, local made pies and pulled brisket. It was a wonderful salad bar and only about $7, well worth it! My husband had a combo of pulled pork and brisket. He could barely finish it. He isn't a fan of Cole slaw but I have with a try. Not over sauced at all, lightly sauced and crisp. They had a lot of beer on tap, including a handful of the best known breweries in VT. Totally worth a stop as a local or if you passing by. Really nice people and great bbq! Ribs and burnt ends were both fantastic, and the coleslaw was good. I really liked their sauces - better than most "traditional" flavor options of sweet/hot/Carolina- the jalapeño bbq sauce was really great with a nice kick, and the spicy chipotle sauce was AMAZING on both ribs and he burnt ends combo. Surprisingly, the salad bar was pretty good simple and and fresh, which was unexpected. We really enjoyed everything including the staff as their service was great also very friendly staff. One nice thing is they are also dog friendly on the porch, and we brought both our puppies there which was nicer than leaving them in our car and rushing or eating in the car - especially as it was a beautiful day Sunday! read more

So fast forward a year later and we are sitting at home on a Saturday morning by the stove and I said "Hey, you remember that BBQ joint in Vermont?"...."Yeah that was great! Ok... So as you drive up, depending on past experiences you'll either get excited and start salivating or start to have doubts. I was the former. We were told this spot had the best barbecue and that we should stop in and try it out. We are not locals so not sure this is my opinion didn't feel that warm welcome type of feeling from a small establishment but we were committed to dine there. The restaurant followed the COVID-19 rules that was great. Our family has a history in venturing out to taste different barbecue as well as having close friends who are in the Barbecue competition circuit. Needless to say we know barbecue. We were disappointed the membranes still on the ribs, lack of seasoning and over cooked. The brisket the fat was not rendered out, no smoke ring there was a bark no flavor. The quality of the meat was not what I would expect for a barbecue restaurant. The Fattys Monster Dog not bad the coleslaw was bland.The Maple Balsamic Marinated Portabella Cap. The marinate was good the Portabella smaller than expected. This could have been an off day or maybe we did not order what the locals would recommend. Came for a quick dinner and was not disappointed! My boyfriend and I shared a convo plate of ribs and pulled chicken with a side of onion rings. Stop #1 on my road trip to Burlington, VT this past summer. My uncle and aunt came here and they said their food was good and they had a fairly good beer selection as expected from the great beer state of VT. This place is fairly close to the highway that we came from. It took a bit of navigating around but we finally arrived there just next to River Roost Brewery. For my order, I got the pulled pork and the brisket combo which came with a side of slaw. The brisket was really good but the pulled pork was on the dry side. It wasn't unedible but I was a bit disappointed. The beer selection, 20 taps total, was pretty good with slightly more than half of them being local breweries. Since I was driving I got a low ABV selection so that i can make it to our next stop. The decor was very basic, almost a home dining room situation. Pictures and tiny knick-knacks spread across the room. The room was very warm and saw a lot of flies swarming around over the salad bar and the BBQ sauces section. It made me reconsider whether I wanted to try the other sauces that were sitting over there. Overall, good brisket and good beer. Friendly service as well as the counter person who took our order also helped in letting us try beer samples during ordering. If only every BBQ/beer joint had staff like them, then the world would be a better place. 3.5 STARS because of the staff. read more

We came here for a late lunch on our way to a house we were renting. My friend and I split the brisket mac n cheese, the chicken tenders and some bacon corn bread. The sauces were all excellent! I preferred the Carolina mustard for the tenders. The corn bread was a little dry so I probably wouldn't get it again, but I believe it was a dollar so no loss there. The "Award winning brisket and smoked caramelized onion Mac and cheese" was not large but amazing. The skinny salad with brisket add on *was* large and excellent. Easily the best BBQ place in the area. BBQ is obviously less common in the northeast than the south, but in my opinion Big Fatty's BBQ does it the right way. Its good stuff whether you eat-in or take-out. They feature a well stocked salad bar, a large selection of craft beers from all over the country, and even a food eating challenge (where you can get a t-shirt and your name on the wall). We loved our pulled pork and ribs from Big Fatty's! The spicy pickles are awesome (some of the best we've had since we lived in the south) and the Mac and cheese really hits the spot. The Cole slaw is a little blah but to be honest, no one's ordering from a bbq spot for the slaw. This was less than average BBQ. The pulled chicken had a weird taste and it was dry. The burnt ends were tough and grissily, the ribs were okay but tasted like sweet baby Ray's bbq. The mac and cheese was dry and tasted like just noodles and cheese and wasn't creamy at all. The one upside of this place is that they serve Heady Topper and the cornbread was okay. read more
